Does ADHD Affect Adults?

Page 1

Does ADHD Affect Adults? Yes! Simply because you reach adulthood does not mean that your symptoms vanish. ADHD was once thought to be a childhood condition. We now know that 30 to 60% of children who are diagnosed with ADHD continue to experience symptoms as adults.

As we age, our pre-frontal brain and executive function often develop, and our symptoms frequently reduce. As we become older, we tend to have greater self-control, and the symptoms of hyperactivity tend to lessen. However, they can still show themselves as fidgeting or other tiny motions. Children with ADHD frequently find the school system to be a challenging environment. Still, once you can choose a professional route that suits you and have positive coping mechanisms for some of your ADHD challenges, life may get easier. Your outward symptoms may become less noticeable.
