MANY BRIDES ARE OPTING FOR SIMPLER, MORE NATURAL LOOKS FOR THE BIG DAY
BY LUCY MAZZUCCO
Those who prefer lighter makeup are leaning into the latest trend: “clean girl” makeup, a minimal, effortless look that focuses on dewy skin, subtle hints of colour and nude, glossy lips. “While wild trends will come and go, looking naturally beautiful and like yourself will never go out of style and if there's any day to look like the best, natural version of yourself, it's your wedding day,” says Christine Cho, makeup artist and on-air beauty expert.
Yasir Akhtar, national sales and education manager for NARS Canada, says, “On your wedding day, you should glow from within, not hide behind heavy layers. Achieving that flawless fresh-faced look starts with skincare. Healthy skin is 50 per cent of any great makeup look. Makeup should never be a mask; it's here to enhance, not hide. Clean girl makeup embraces authenticity and radiance.”
Cho says it's important to take good care of the skin leading up to your wedding. “For any makeup look, but particularly for a more natural makeup look, this means making sure to exfoliate weekly and add in face masks and other hydrating treatments.” On the big day, Cho says skin must be well prepped, since any dry patches or flaking skin is often accentuated by makeup. “Glowing, real-looking skin is the focus, so after a hydrating sheet mask, I would drench the skin in moisturizer before applying complexion products. Then, once the base is on, I would recommend liquid highlighter, blush and contour,” says Cho. “I would leave the majority of the face without powder, so the skin's natural luminosity shines through.”
For skin prep, Akhtar recommends hydrating the skin with the NARS Light Reflecting Restorative Night Treatment, an evening treatment that transforms from gel to oil and strengthens the skin's barrier.
Cho says the most important thing to focus on is natural-looking skin texture and radiance. “While the complexion is ideally even-toned with darkness, redness and spots covered, foundation or concealer products should be applied with a light hand,” says Cho. “I would recommend a skin tint or tinted moisturizer for most of the face, particularly those with skin-loving ingredients like hyaluronic acid or vitamin E oil.”
Akhtar recommends using the NARS Light Reflecting Hydrating Primer before applying the NARS Light Reflecting Advanced Skincare Foundation. “Apply one to two pumps using your fingertips. Start from the centre of the face and blend outwards for a seamless, skin-like finish,” he says.
NEARLY NAKED: Clinique’s cult fave Black Honey has a new “honey” in the family: Pop Lip + Cheek Oil in Nude Honey, a two-in-one tinted oil for conditioned lips and dewy cheeks. clinique.ca
Depending on the bride's preference, Cho recommends a waterproof mascara, soft, natural-looking false lash clusters, or a demi-lash paired with a soft brown smudged liner in the lash line to give a modern “clean girl” eye look. “While a skin matching concealer or creamy pale rose or sheer metallic neutral cream eyeshadow base would work well, I would skip the powdered eyeshadows,” says Cho. “Keep it light on the brows as well. Brush up the natural hair and fill in only sparse areas where needed for symmetry using a micro fine brow pencil or ink pen that is lighter than the natural hair tone.” To finish off, Cho recommends a neutral lipliner before pressing in some long-lasting lip colour or sheer lip oil. “I would opt for a good setting spray rather than setting powder for longevity that doesn't over mattify or add a textured product to the look,” she says.
To finish, Akhtar recommends setting everything in place with the NARS Light Reflecting Hydrating Setting Mist. “Hold the bottle eight to 10 inches away, close your eyes and mist to lock in the clean, radiant aesthetic,” he says. “Simple, effective and effortlessly chic.”

A PROPER SKIN-CARE ROUTINE IS KEY FOR A FLAWLESS MAKEUP APPLICATION AND PHOTO-READY SKIN ON THE BIG DAY, BUT THERE ARE SEVERAL DOS AND DON’TS TO CONSIDER WHEN INCORPORATING FACE MASKS
BY LUCY MAZZUCCO
While face masks can be a beneficial part of a skincare routine, they are not “one size fits all.” Tina Griffin, skincare expert and founder of mobile facial spa, Faceology Spa, says that while face masks can be incorporated into routines at least three months before a wedding, the exact ones will always depend on the person’s skin type and skincare goals.
“Clay masks are excellent for oily or acne-prone skin as they draw out impurities, help regulate sebum production and minimize the appearance of enlarged pores. Sheet masks, on the other hand, are ideal for hydration and delivering targeted treatments quickly,” says Griffin. “Gel masks are generally formulated with soothing and cooling ingredients, such as cica or bisabol to combat redness and sensitivity, while enzyme masks gently exfoliate without irritation, making them a gentle, brightening option for those combating hyperpigmentation, uneven skin tone and textural irregularities.”
While hydrating and brightening masks can be used one to two times per week, Griffin says it’s best to avoid trying new masks, especially detoxifying or exfoliating ones within the two weeks leading up to a wedding to prevent any unexpected skin reactions.
In terms of what to look for in a face mask, Griffin recommends ones with antioxidants, as they offer immediate brightening and plumping effects for that added glow. “Vitamin C is suitable for all skin types and helps brighten and even skin tone,” says Griffin. “Enhanced with a stabilized form of vitamin C, the Diego Dalla Palma Vitamin C Mask delivers a powerful boost of energy to the skin, targets grey and dull skin caused by stress, and gives the skin an intense radiance in just 10 minutes.”

acids such as AHAs and PHAs to increase the appearance of firm and smooth skin, while combating discolouration and pigmentation due to acne lesions,” says Griffin. For hydration, she recommends the Verso Hydration Mask, which she says is perfect for brides seeking a glowing, hydrated complexion. “This mask can be left on overnight, making it incredibly easy to use, especially since our skin repairs itself during the night. It is formulated with yeast extract and a ceramide complex, both of which work together to deeply nourish, replenish and strengthen the skin’s barrier, leaving it feeling soft, plump and rejuvenated,” she says. “Niacinamide, which is also known as vitamin B3, is a powerhouse ingredient that helps to minimize pores, control redness and is great for strengthening the skin barrier.”
Griffin cautions against using products with alcohol, whether it be denatured or SD alcohol, as they can dry out the skin and strip the natural skin barrier, which can trigger oil production and breakouts. She also recommends avoiding strong essential oils such as peppermint or citrus, which can pose an allergy risk and cause photosensitivity, making the skin more reactive to the sun’s harmful rays.
“Though they initially offer a cooling sensation, these types of oils can be irritating to the skin, especially if you are on the dry, sensitive side,” says Griffin. “Synthetic fragrances are also one of the top causes of skin irritation, rashes and allergic reactions, and often contain hundreds of undisclosed chemicals.”
Griffin also suggests avoiding physical exfoliants with large particles such as traditional apricot kernels, crushed walnut shells and sugar scrubs, which she says can cause micro-tears in the skin, leading to irritation, inflammation and long-term damage to the skin’s protective barrier.
Griffin also suggests looking for face masks with peptides, which are responsible for collagen and elastin production, and vitamin A, which she says can help boost cell turnover, improve texture, reduce hyperpigmentation, fight acne and improve fine lines and wrinkles. “The Verso Peel Mask contains enzymes and exfoliating
Griffin adds that it's also important to be mindful of face masks that claim to provide an instant transformation, which may include peel-off charcoal masks, glitter masks or colour-changing formulas. “While they often appeal and look great on social media, they lack benefits, often leave the skin irritated, and are potential sensitizers,” she says.
What’s new and next, according to Mikaella Bernstein of Canadian bridal houses Paloma Blanca and Mikaella Bridal
BY VIVIAN VASSOS
From chic jumpsuits to modern silhouettes, designs now transition effortlessly from “I do” to any celebration, says Bernstein, ensuring your wedding-day outfit remains a cherished part of your wardrobe.
“One of the most striking trends for Spring 2026 is the use of contrasting fabrics within a single gown,” says Bernstein. Pairing a textured or detailed bodice with a clean, structured skirt creates instant visual interest and gives the dress a more styled feel. It’s a way to add depth without overwhelming the silhouette. The contrast, she adds, feels intentional and elevated, balancing softness with structure and giving the gown a look that’s both modern and romantic.
LACE-UP BACKS
There’s a reason laceup backs are on the rise again: they’re beautiful and functional, says Bernstein. “These corset-inspired details offer a custom-like fit and naturally define the waist, creating that ultraflattering, snatched shape. We love how they add subtle drama without distracting from the overall look.”
AND HALTER NECKLINES
Clean, architectural and impossibly chic, square or halter necklines are the go-to for brides looking for structure with softness, Bernstein says. Both styles frame the collarbone and shoulders in a way that’s elegant yet strong, and pair beautifully with both fitted and softly structured skirts. “The result,” she adds, “is a silhouette that feels modern, polished and quietly bold.”
Standing tall on your big day requires footwear that’s both functional and fashionable. We asked a footwear expert to keep us in step.
There’s something to suit every bride’s personal style, according to Mary Labiri, brand manager for Badgley Mischka Footwear at The Indeka Group, one of the largest footwear distributors in Canada. But for Labiri, these three trends stand out.
1 ELEVATED MINIMALISM: “Brides are gravitating toward sleek silhouettes with luxe fabrics,” she says. Bridal footwear, she notes, embraces clean lines with rich satin and silk finishes that exude understated luxury.
2 DRAMATIC STATEMENT ELEMENTS: “Focus on an element and make it grand!” The Badgley Mischka collection, she adds, features bold crystal embellishments, oversized bows and sculptural heels that turn each shoe into a showstopping focal point.
3 VINTAGE ROMANCE: “Lace and lace and lace,” says Labiri, “all with a modern touch!” Delicate lace overlays, vintage-inspired silhouettes and pearl accents offer a nostalgic charm with a refined, contemporary twist.

thereal creations float like clouds in this brave new world of bridal design, where bigger is better and dreamy textures collaborate in imaginative ways. Designers are celebrating and taking a crank-it-up direction this season: think antique Duchesse satin meets laser-cut florals, shimmering sequins pair up with delicate Broderie Anglaise, dramatic organza ball skirts and lightas-air tulle mermaid tails make shapely statements. Pearls on pearls appear on everything, from cinched corsets to gowns encrusted head to toe. But why stop there? Pearl earrings, necklaces and bracelets all add to the glow.
Canadian designers such as Vancouver-based Ouma and Toronto’s Ines Di Santo are leading the charge, with their modern yet visionary takes on what a bride wants now. Subtle colour continues its march up the aisle, but white is still right for many brides. Corsets are no longer just a trend – the waist-cinching silhouette appeared in nearly every collection, either as part of the dress or as a separate piece you could wear on its own.
Speaking of glow, beauty looks are all about embracing your natural assets – with blush making a comeback on both cheeks and eyes and hairstyles ranging from loose and natural to sophisticated up-dos and tight buns. “Makeup for brides now focuses

Whether it’s bold colours, standout accessories or sustainable choices, grooms are finding new ways to show off their style.
Don’t feel limited to a simple black tux or grey suit.
Grooms are sporting bold colours, like deep emerald, navy, burgundy and even pink. It’s all about highlighting your personal style. Unique fabrics such as velvet, tweed or even jacquard are popping up on wedding days. According to designer Joseph Abboud, “The suit becomes part of that story: tailored to perfection, ready for the moment.” Think standout sharp but with an edge.
The statement jacket is also having a moment. Whether it’s a velvet dinner jacket, a patterned blazer or even something with embroidered details, grooms are switching out their plain jackets for something that pops. Keep it centre-stage, but pair it with classic trousers to anchor the look.
Grooms are paying attention to the small stuff – everything from custom lapel pins to statement watches and pocket squares. But it’s not about going overboard; accessories add that final touch in a sophisticated, subtle way. We’re seeing leather suspenders, patterned socks, stylish brooches and the floral lapel – the groom's version of a bouquet that adds romance to the ceremony look. Or try replacing a pocket square with a posy of complementary colours.

When it comes to rings, engraving, mixing metals and incorporating personal elements like birthstones are at the top of the list. More than just a ring, it reflects the couple’s personal style and journey together. Erica Bianchini, Ecksand’s creative director, says, “It’s not just girls who want to have fun. Men are claiming their own kind of joy – not loud, but deeply personal. With pieces like Ecksand’s bezel set diamond ring or Dragon band, they’re embracing jewellery as a way to mark strength, vulnerability and everything in between. These aren’t just accessories; they’re quiet statements of character, designed to evolve with the man who wears them.”
Gigi and Izzy never lost sight of what truly mattered on their wedding day. The couple, who said “I do” at Izzy’s family cottage in Muskoka, Ontario, in August 2022, wanted a meaningful ceremony that celebrated queer love, honoured the advocacy of those who came before them, and paid homage to the ancestral land beneath their feet. Describing themselves as “spiritual but not religious,” their entire day reflected the deep love and respect they have for each other, their loved ones and their stunning natural surroundings.
DOUBLE THE BEAUTY: Gigi chose a gorgeous lace dress from Grace Loves Lace while Izzy went with a custom crepe dress from Lea-Ann Belter with lace detailing at the neckline to tie the two looks together.
NEXT-LEVEL NOSH: Dinner was served family-style, featuring mostly Middle Eastern dishes – all gluten-free – from Noushe Catering, a nod to Gigi’s Lebanese roots. “We love eating and sharing meals, and their family-style approach to food was ideal,” says the couple. The good eats continued the next day, with Noushe also catering a delicious brunch.
LABOUR OF LOVE: It took two summers of landscaping to achieve the amphitheatre feel the couple envisioned for their wedding. The grounds – lovingly cleared, mostly by Izzy’s father – are now affectionately referred to as ‘Bridal Path.’
JAZZ IT UP: Sound played a major role throughout the day, from a jazz band led by Denielle Bassels during cocktail hour to a saxophonist guiding Izzy and her parents through the woods for the ceremony. The couple walked down the aisle to Adele’s ultra romantic “Make You Feel My Love” – a perfect choice for such a monumental moment.
If you ask Jordan and Cameron, life’s milestone moments – the good, the bad and everything in between – deserve to be commemorated. That’s why they’ve kept the tradition of signing wine corks throughout their relationship. So, it was only fitting that the couple chose to celebrate their June 2024 wedding at Vieni Estates in Lincoln, Ontario, where the exceptional wines are matched only by the breathtaking views of the Niagara Escarpment. There, they toasted their biggest milestone yet alongside 140 of their closest friends and family.
THE PERFECT FIT: Jordan looked breathtaking in a fit and flare dress by Neta Dover, handmade in Israel. “It was the first dress I tried on, at first as a joke thinking it was too much. Turns out, it was just enough.”
DANCE, DANCE, DANCE! Jordan and Cameron spent a lot of time curating the night’s playlist with their DJ – Sinatra for dinner, Galantis for the dance floor. “The shots were flowing, the conversation never stopped, and we were showered with happy tears and hugs. We never left the dance floor all night, which is exactly what we wanted.”
PERSONAL TOUCH: In keeping with tradition, guests signed a wine cork instead of a guestbook. Photos of the couple’s dogs were displayed at the bar while miniature versions of the pups served as cake toppers. “It didn’t feel like a generic wedding. It was on a more personal level – a true reflection of us.”
Kalisha and Daniel’s love story began years ago on a fateful night at the Royal Ontario Museum. It was there, between ancient artifacts and dinosaur bones, that sparks first flew – and the rest, as they say, is history. Fast-forward to their October 2023 wedding in Toronto and the couple is still basking in true love. From their heartfelt vows to lively entertainment that celebrated Kalisha’s Caribbean roots, every detail of their big day was uniquely them: fun, meaningful and unforgettable.

FIT FOR A PRINCESS: Kalisha hadn’t realized the dress she fell in love with at Kleinfeld was part of the Disney Fairytale Weddings Collection. As it turns out, it was meant to be – her favourite Disney princess growing up had always been Princess Jasmine.
WHAT A PARTY! In honour of Kalisha’s Caribbean heritage, the couple treated guests to a lively cocktail hour with a steel pan player, followed by an energetic tassa group and a nonstop mix of soca, calypso, dancehall and reggae that kept the dance floor packed all night long.
THE PERFECT VENUE: The couple, who wanted a historical venue in Toronto that could accommodate their large wedding, fell in love with Palais Royale’s barrel-vaulted ceilings and large patio overlooking Lake Ontario. The romantic string lighting and expansive dance floor were the perfect finishing touches.
It was at a bar called Lucky where Natalina and Robbie’s good fortune began. That chance encounter at one of Victoria, B.C.’s most popular hangouts set off a spark, which started a love story, which eventually led to a walk down the aisle. Surrounded by 134 of their closest family and friends, the couple said “I do” in August 2024 at Monte Creek Winery in Monte Creek, B.C., in a beautiful greenhouse made of glass. And the best part? Their six-week-old daughter was there, too, who arrived just in time to be part of Mom and Dad’s special day.
CLASSIC DETAILS: Natalina chose a modern A-line ballgown by Arlette, perfectly in keeping with the theme of ‘Timeless Elegance.’ Classic white roses kept the look sleek and minimal, while crisp white linens and black chairs let the stunning greenhouse setting speak for itself.
DINNER IS SERVED! Guests enjoyed a variety of skewers during cocktail hour, followed by a dinner of beef tenderloin and seasonal vegetables. Dessert was a dream come true, with a choice of deconstructed lemon meringue pie or chocolate mousse with raspberries. Late-night cravings were satisfied with pizza and decadent Italian sweets, while a coffee bar kept the energy high well into the night.
YUMMM! The couple chose a vintage inspired, heart-shaped wedding cake with the classic flavour combo of chocolate and raspberry, Robbie’s favourite.

Taylor’s connection to Niagara-on-the-Lake runs deep, rooted in childhood visits to see her beloved grandparents. During the pandemic, when visits were no longer possible, the absence was profoundly felt. Once restrictions eased, Richard – knowing how much the separation had affected her – planned a funfilled day in Niagara-on-the-Lake capped with a surprise dinner with her grandparents, marking their first reunion since the pandemic began. The emotional day ended with an even sweeter surprise: a proposal! Honouring Taylor’s lifelong bond with the region – and her grandparents, who have since passed away – the couple tied the knot in September 2023, in the very place that held so many treasured memories.
SPECIAL DETAILS: A live pianist and violinist set the tone for the ceremony and cocktail hour, while The Lonely Hearts, a live band, kept the dance floor jumpin’ well into the night. A close family friend officiated the ceremony, with Taylor’s twin brother and Richard’s twin sister standing by as witnesses. “Richard had always wanted a vineyard wedding. It was exactly what he imagined when he was little,” said Taylor.
WHAT A VENUE! With its expansive grounds, elegantly draped tent and French-inspired fountain, Château des Charmes – home to more than 40 vintages – offered the perfect backdrop for the romantic garden party Taylor and Richard envisioned. The serene setting transported the couple and their 163 guests straight to old-world France.
HIS & HERS: Taylor wore a “classic, understated and elegant” Pronovias gown from Lover’s Land in Toronto, while Richard opted for a fully custom tuxedo – made “out of someone’s basement” – lined with playful photos of the bride as a teenager. “Richard did the majority of the planning while I was busy working and writing exams,” said Taylor. “He filled the day with unexpected personal touches.”
To some, five sugared almonds wrapped in tulle may seem like a simple wedding favour. But for Hanna and Ben, who said “I do” in Vaughan, Ontario, in July 2024, these dainty treats – known as koufeta –carried deep meaning. “Health, wealth, happiness, family and a long life. It was a beautiful sentiment that we were grateful to share with our loved ones,” said the couple. Greek culture was woven throughout the celebration as a heartfelt tribute to Hanna’s heritage, but above all, the pair said the best part was having all their favourite people together in one place. “The energy, laughter and love in the room – it was everything we hoped for and more.”
DREAM VENUE: The couple decided on The Arlington Estate in Vaughan after visiting several venues, noting its perfect size, exceptional food and friendly team. They incorporated white florals –Playa Blanca roses, hydrangeas and ranunculus – for a sophisticated touch. “Our goal was to create an elegant atmosphere that felt modern yet understated, something we would still love looking back on years from now,” they said.
TWO-IN-ONE: Hanna looked like a dream in her dress by Chosen by Kyha, which she loved for its simplicity and timeless feel. A detachable overskirt by the same designer gave her two distinct looks – elegant by day and effortlessly chic by night.
DOGGONE IT! Hanna and Ben made sure their beloved dog Remi was part of the celebration, featuring her face on custom cocktail napkins. As night fell, the party came alive with a fun photo booth, LED foam glow sticks lighting up the dance floor, and a crowd-pleasing late-night live pizza station.

If your idea of a destination wedding means going downtown, an urban affair is convenient, with hotels and high-end restaurants having the ability to instantly transform the venue into a couple’s ideal place to tie the knot.
For a city wedding, smart planning and strategic venue choices are key to balancing sophistication with spend. “Setting a budget for a city wedding starts with establishing your total spend, then allocating it across key categories such as venue rental, food and beverage, guest count, décor, entertainment, photography, attire and transportation,” says Kelly Dalton, director of sales and events at The Chase, an award-winning rooftop restaurant in Toronto’s Financial District. “In urban settings, food and beverage often represent the largest expense, especially with common per-head minimums and premium service fees.”
She suggests couples decide as soon as possible whether the ceremony and reception will take place at the same venue and recommends consolidating both, to reduce transportation costs and simplify logistics –particularly valuable in metropolitan areas where traffic, timing and access can be complex.
“To maximize value without sacrificing style, many couples are turning to turnkey venues like The Chase,” says Dalton. “These elevated spaces offer a fully curated environment, complete with in-house catering, built-in ambience and refined design, significantly cutting down on décor needs and coordination time.” Rather than building the atmosphere from the ground up, couples step into a ready-made experience, she adds, which feels effortless. Similarly, chef-driven restaurants, private dining spaces and boutique hotel venues can deliver high design, seamless service and in-house planning, while streamlining the budget.
“City weddings offer style, energy and a unique backdrop, but they also come with a distinct set of logistical considerations that differ significantly from events held in more spacious or rural settings,” she says. Here, Dalton shares her list of logistics to think about.
Unlike countryside estates or suburban venues with expansive lots, most urban locations offer limited or no on-site parking. Couples should anticipate this and plan accordingly – think valet services, designated ride-share codes or shuttle buses for guests. If the venue is near public transit, encouraging guests to use subways or light rail can also ease congestion and reduce stress.
Urban venues often operate within tightly controlled parameters. Load-in and load-out times for vendors may be restricted due to building regulations, and some spaces have limited elevator access or strict noise ordinances. Ensuring that your vendor team is experienced with city venues and familiar with your specific site’s protocols is crucial to keeping the day running smoothly.
Hotel availability in urban areas can be competitive and expensive, especially during peak event seasons or concurrent city-wide events. It’s wise to secure room blocks well in advance and provide guests with a range of options at various price points, ideally within walking distance or a short ride from the venue.
“Ultimately, the key to a seamless city wedding lies in foresight and thoughtful planning,” says Dalton. Venues like The Chase make this easier by offering fullservice coordination, she adds, all within a centrally located setting. In-house planning teams work closely with couples, minimizing the need for an external fullscale planner and ensuring every detail is handled. “By leveraging the efficiency of venues that blend design with service, couples can enjoy the excitement of a city celebration without the complexity that often comes with it.”

Maya Tsur Floral Design and Bare & Co. collaborated to curate the florals and candles for the ceremony and reception, creating a cohesive and bespoke design. Maya Tsur’s asymmetrical floral arrangements provided a luxurious backdrop for the ceremony, perfectly complementing the bride’s embroidered dress. Bare & Co.’s candles set the mood with warm lighting. The tableware featured clean lines, ribbed glassware, brass silverware and smooth finishes, aligning with the setting’s warm yet minimal colour palette. Handblown ribbed, flower-shaped champagne coupes added a unique element to the reception’s tablescape and the couple’s champagne toast. The team used a palette of blush, peach, soft apricot, creamy whites and whispery greens to evoke a sense of timeless beauty while maintaining a fresh yet refined feel. The arrangements featured a delicate blend of classically beautiful and elegant, lush and full-of-movement blooms including carnations, dahlias, delphiniums, ranunculus, roses and eucalyptus. The floral runner centrepiece ran the full length of the table, like a floral meadow rising from the linen-draped table. Soft ivory twisted tapered candles in glass vessels were woven throughout to add height, dimension and a romantic glow that would transition from day to dusk.

ncluding your dog on your wedding day might just be the most heart-melting decision you’ll make – after saying “yes,” of course. Dogs bring an extra dose of joy, love and personality to a celebration that’s already bursting with emotion. But between timelines, tablescapes, florals and getting everyone where they need to be, juggling your pup’s needs can feel like a lot. The good news? With a little planning and the right support, your dog can be part of the day without any extra stress.
After attending more than 150 weddings (yes, really!), we’ve gathered some tried-and-true tips to help you and your pup celebrate with ease.
Before the big day, decide how involved your dog will be. Are they trotting down the aisle? Sitting in the front row with Grandma? Making a cameo in portraits? Think about your dog’s personality and comfort
level – some pups love the spotlight, others prefer a quiet hello. Choosing a role that fits their vibe ensures their presence adds joy, not chaos.
PRACTICE
Dogs love routine. Help them feel confident by walking through their wedding role ahead of time. Visit the venue, if possible, rehearse the aisle walk, and introduce them to any key humans they’ll see on the big day. Familiar faces, smells and surroundings can make all the difference when it’s time for their moment to shine.
The best wedding gift you can give yourself (and your dog)? A trusted human whose only job is looking after your pup. That’s where a professional wedding dog attendant comes in. At Black Dog Weddings, we offer one-on-one care, managing everything from potty breaks to portraits with ease. We blend seamlessly into your wedding team so you can soak up every moment, knowing your dog is safe, happy and cared for.
Just like you’d prep a kit for your wedding party, your dog needs their own wedding day gear. Think: water bowls, treats, a leash, poop bags, lint roller, hand towels (trust us, drool happens) and their wedding attire. Keep their usual gear on until go-time to keep their outfit picture-perfect.
Weddings are a lot – even for the most social dogs. Build in breaks, stick to their regular schedule as much as possible, and keep an eye out for signs of stress. Sometimes, a brief appearance is all your pup needs to be part of the day in a meaningful (and manageable) way.
After the confetti’s tossed and kisses are shared, your pup deserves a quiet, cozy spot to unwind. Whether they’re heading home with family or spending the night with a trusted care provider, a calm transition is the perfect wrap-up to their wedding adventure.

How does a couple set a budget when it comes to their big day? Micro, destination, downtown in your hometown – we tapped a few insiders on what to know.
BY VIVIAN VASSOS
THE EXPERT: Murielle Sleiman, catering sales manager and resident wedding expert at The Ritz-Carlton, Toronto
“The budget largely depends on the couple's personal preferences,” says Sleiman. “Some couples prioritize the quality of food, beverages and overall hotel service, while others may focus more on having top-tier entertainment or décor. For example, some couples might prefer hiring their favourite band and keeping the guest list smaller, with a lower minimum spend. Ultimately, the budget is shaped by the couple’s specific priorities.” Plus, choosing a full-service hotel means everything – from decor to food, to even the wedding planner – is already in house, with setup, staging and rehearsal time included.
ANY OTHER HELPFUL TIPS?
“[Ritz-Carlton] offers special rates for parking and hotel rooms. Couples can either provide a room block for up to 10 guestrooms with no obligation, or they can reserve a block for more than 10 guestrooms, which requires a commitment,” she adds. And the hotel provides a complimentary suite for the couple on their wedding night.
THE EXPERT: Marsha-Ann Donaldson, corporate director, weddings & romance, Sandals Resorts International
“Setting a budget for a destination wedding can be overwhelming, that's for sure, as many couples just don’t know where to begin!” says Donaldson. “That’s why consulting with a destination wedding planner can be incredibly helpful. At Sandals Resorts, our dedicated wedding planners guide couples through the process – from start to finish – helping them to understand costs, explore options and truly make the most of their budget, whatever that may be.”

One of the greatest advantages of choosing a resort like Sandals, Donaldson notes, is the flexibility and value it offers with a variety of
How one certified event specialist helps couples get the marriage ball rolling for their dream destination wedding
BY VIVIAN VASSOS
“Qualifying a client is the process of really getting down to what the client wants,” says certified wedding and event planner PATTIE KISILEWICH. “Many times, they have a fantasy in their minds but once we start the conversation of ‘tell me your vision,’ that original idea looks much different and many times more realistic.”
“I usually start my conversation with the couple (preferably on Zoom) where I ask them to tell me how they met and then follow up with their wants: what dates are they thinking, locations, size and budget.”
THE KEY STARTER QUESTIONS:
• Why are you thinking of the destination you picked?
• Why that time of year?
• Is the couple paying for their own stay or do they want to build a budget including the guests?
• What’s the budget per person?
THE ACTUAL WEDDING WISHES – HAVES VS WANTS:
• Symbolic vs legal destination wedding
• Church vs intimate beach
• Formal vs Informal
AND THEN SHARES HER PROCESS:
• Forms will go out to all the guests with basic information
• Deposits and final payments
• Communication process
“From here, I will start looking at resorts and send options, then plan another Zoom meeting to go over them until a resort and date are chosen. Next, we get commitment from the group,” says Kisilewich.
And then the fun begins. “A travel agent's role is to do all the research and deal with the problems; my client’s role is to enjoy their trip,” she adds. “I have a passion for travel and my ultimate goal is to have each client love their trip and talk about it forever! It means even more to me with my couples – this is their big day and I get to play a small part in making it happen.”
wedding packages available to suit every budget and guest count. “Whether it’s an intimate elopement or a grand celebration with more than 50 guests, we ensure a seamless planning experience. Plus, we even have a complimentary wedding package, making it easier than ever to say ‘I do’ in paradise.”
THE EXPERT: Sandra Prieto Robles, regional wedding manager of the Americas, Palladium Hotel Group
“I believe it’s all about prioritizing what’s most important to the couple,” says Robles. “I recommend starting by discussing the must-haves, such as the venue, guest list and services, and then work backwards from there.” It’s also essential, she adds, to factor in hidden costs like travel for guests, or additional add-ons. “Once you have a clear picture of what’s most important, you can allocate funds more effectively and avoid any surprises later.”
Pattie Kisilewich, Certified Wedding & Event Planner, Today’s Destination Weddings & Honeymoons pattiek@todaysdestinationweddingsandhoneymoons.com 1-888-683-7083 Ext. 2808
ANY OTHER HELPFUL TIPS? One thing many couples overlook is the travel logistics for guests, Robles says. “It’s easy to get caught up in the wedding details but ensuring that your guests have everything they need – like group rates for flights, accommodations and transportation –can make a huge difference.” An experienced advisor, she adds, will help coordinate these details so your loved ones can enjoy the celebration without any travel stress.
THE EXPERT: Melissa Parent, sales manager for weddings, Fairmont Le Château Montebello
“The best way to begin planning a micro-wedding is by first creating your guest list,” Parent says. “Once you have a clear idea of how many people you’ll be inviting, the next step is to find a venue. Be mindful that some wedding locations have minimum guest counts or minimum food and beverage spend requirements, so it’s important to choose a venue that can accommodate a smaller guest list without incurring additional costs.”
ANY OTHER HELPFUL TIPS? Consider the vision for your event. Do you want to keep things intimate and celebrate at a local restaurant? Or are you dreaming of a destination wedding, whether it’s a tropical getaway or a resort just a few hours away? Many couples also choose venues with personal significance – such as a place where they shared their first trip together, a childhood vacation spot, or the location where the proposal took place. The key is to select a setting that feels meaningful and aligns with the intimacy of a micro-wedding.
THE EXPERT: Lauren MacColl, regional sales manager for Fairmont Hotels & Resorts + Rim Rock Resort Hotel, Canada’s Western Mountain Collection
“Begin with a solid budget, select your dream location, then immediately partner with a wedding planner,” says MacColl.
“Choosing a planner after securing your venue, particularly for destination weddings, ensures you benefit from their local knowledge and support throughout the entire planning journey.”
ANY OTHER HELPFUL TIPS?
Create two lists – List A and List B. Send invitations to those on List A first – many may RSVP quickly, and if some are unable to attend due to prior commitments, you’ll have the opportunity to extend invitations to those on List B. This approach allows you to maintain a more intimate and manageable guest list.
Feeling the energy and finding the perfect wedding professional
BY THE MARRY MEN WEDDING OFFICIANTS
When it comes to planning your wedding, it’s easy to be dazzled by stunning portfolios, glowing reviews and picture-perfect social media feeds. But as the old saying goes, “all that glistens is not gold.” Beyond the polished images and perpetual promises lies something even more important: the vibe. Finding the perfect wedding professional – be it an officiant, planner, florist or photographer – should be more than just a formality. It’s important to choose vendors who deliver quality service and also align with your personalities. This can make all the difference between a stressful experience and a truly magical day.
A wedding day should feel like a celebration of something extraordinary and not just another checkbox on life’s ever-growing to-do list. Here’s why vibe-checking your wedding vendors helps to make a positive first impression that will shape one of the most important days of your lives.
Not every couple radiates fireworks, and that’s okay. Sometimes love is quiet, understated and deeply private. Some people may have never been asked to reflect on their love story, while others simply don’t have the words to articulate their feelings. An officiant’s job isn’t to invent your story, but to honour the one they’ve been given. An experienced officiant will do their best to draw out even the smallest details – a shared joke, a favourite anecdote, an odd quirk you both embrace – and let those moments anchor the ceremony. But it’s not about the material – it’s about the energy. The couples who light up when they talk about one another are the ones who make an officiant’s job easy and enjoyable. When your authenticity fills the room and the spark between you is burning, your ceremony practically writes itself.
Wedding professionals are in the relationship business and thrive on getting to know a couple’s story. Providing engaging and thoughtful responses during initial conversations and on questionnaires can demonstrate that you have considered what you want and what your wishes are for your wedding day. Experienced vendors can tell if you haven’t paused to consider what makes your partnership special – or worse, if you’ve forgotten why you are taking a walk down the aisle in the first place. Your excitement about celebrating your love is contagious and can motivate a wedding professional to go above and beyond to create a memorable and meaningful wedding experience.
A discovery call is your opportunity to articulate your vision for your wedding day. Good vendors are focused on curating weddings that not only promote their brand and services but are also tailored to satisfying a couple’s specific tastes and needs. Being enthusiastic about your vision will reassure the professional that you are serious about the process and that you value their expertise. Being vague or disengaged can result in missed opportunities for genuine personalization.
Many vendors work with multiple clients and have the luxury of choosing whom they wish to spend their professional and personal time with, especially during peak wedding seasons. Wedding vendors are naturally drawn to couples who acknowledge their expertise and express appreciation for their time. If you make a great impression by being personable and prepared, you are more likely to stand out. A couple who is intentional and thoughtful in their interactions will secure the confidence of their chosen professional and lay the groundwork for a wedding day that will feel meaningful, memorable and magical.
“Your excitement about celebrating your love is contagious and can motivate a wedding professional to go above and beyond to create a memorable and meaningful wedding experience.”
Good vendors will invest a significant amount of time and creative energy into planning, preparing and executing their services. A couple that responds to emails, shows up on time for tastings and rehearsals and doesn’t pester the pros will help to foster mutual respect and encourage the professional to exceed expectations. Walking down the aisle is not a one-way journey. While you're searching for the perfect professionals to bring your wedding vision to life, vendors are also looking for couples they vibe with. Making a positive first impression establishes trust and a connection that makes the vendor feel confident they can effectively make your wedding day the one you deserve.
Feeling your best should go beyond just your wedding day. We spoke to three experts who gave us the inside scoop on how a little TLC can help brides and grooms feel their most confident selves on their honeymoon.
BY LUCY MAZZUCCO
While most brides and grooms get wrapped up in wanting to look their best in time for the wedding, the stress of planning can often take a toll on how they feel about themselves after the big day. It’s important to remember that self-care should continue prior to the honeymoon so newlyweds can not only enjoy their getaways, but also begin their new chapters feeling their best, both inside and out.
STAYING CENTRED
When it comes to feeling your best, prioritizing mental and physical health is key. “Proper nutrition and movement aren’t just about looking good; they’re a crucial part of staying calm and clear-headed when everything around you feels like a whirlwind,” says Heather Lillico, wellness expert and founder of mental health app, Cultivating Calm. “Fuelling yourself with evidencebased nutrients that provide your body with the building blocks for calm, and moving your body in a way that soothes your nervous system, are two ways to help you stay grounded so you can enjoy this
special season. Brides don’t need more pressure; they need support systems that help them stay grounded and balanced.”
Cultivating Calm works by combining meditation, movement and nutrition into a 30-minute daily practice to help slow down racing thoughts and reset the nervous system. “It’ll help you quiet your overthinking brain, feel more grounded and get you back to feeling like yourself, so you can be genuinely excited for what’s ahead,” she says. “The app helps brides break that cycle by offering two simple things: calming movements that regulate the nervous system, like yoga or stretching classes, and antianxiety recipes that support brain health. No calorie obsessions, no 90-minute bootcamps; just consistent, realistic habits that lower stress hormones and support moods to help brides feel more energized while avoiding extremes.”
Since many people opt not to wear much makeup on vacation, booking appointments for lash extensions, brow tints or manicures can be a great way to look and feel good, without having
to worry about any upkeep. Along with boosting confidence, they can also be a relaxing way for brides and grooms to treat themselves before a honeymoon. “Exploring playful nail colours or art for a honeymoon manicure offers brides a delightful way to express their personality and commemorate their wedding journey,” says Rebecca Costanzo, manager of brand development and education of Bio Sculpture Canada Inc. “Drawing inspiration from wedding elements, such as incorporating the ceremony's accent colour or motifs from the bouquet, lace or table settings, can create a cohesive and personalized look. This creative approach allows brides to carry a piece of their special day into their honeymoon, adding a touch of joy and individuality to their overall experience.”
“Proper nutrition and movement aren’t just about looking good; they’re a crucial part of staying calm and clear-headed when everything around you feels like a whirlwind.”
Costanzo also says that a honeymoon can present the perfect opportunity for brides to step outside their usual style and experiment with bolder nail choices. “Opting for vibrant colours or intricate designs can enhance the vacation experience, adding an element of fun and adventure,” she says. “This temporary shift not only complements the celebratory mood but may also inspire brides to embrace more diverse styles in the future, boosting confidence and self-expression.”
For brides and grooms who are interested in fading or improving the look of acne scars or stretchmarks, Dr. Jillian Cole, ND, and founder of Cole Wellness Company Inc., suggests starting at least three months in advance to allow time for the skin’s natural remodelling processes to take effect. “Consistency is everything. Scars and stretchmarks are complex and involve changes at multiple layers of the skin. Supporting your skin barrier daily and nourishing it with the right biochemical tools gives your skin the best chance to heal and renew itself naturally,” says Dr. Cole. “For the face, I recommend layering a peptide-rich serum daily. On the body, a combination of hydration, barrier support and firming actives is key.”
Dr. Cole cautions against using harsh surfactants and overexfoliation, and recommends ingredients such as Damask Rose Extract, Hexapeptide-9, and Caprooyl Tetrapeptide-3, which can be found in products from Cole, her eponymous skincare line.

… in the heart of the city. Who says you need to leave the city to find a dreamy garden escape? This romantic styled shoot, overlooking Stanley Park and the North Shore Mountains from the Marine Garden in downtown Vancouver, shows how to bring country-chic charm to an urban setting.
Lavender, lilac, soft pink and dusty blue come together to create a palette that’s both soothing and elegant. These hues flow through every detail, from the florals to the stationery, evoking a fresh, garden-inspired feel.
The floral baskets’ natural elegance creates a sense of movement and romance that’s both grounded and elevated; overflowing with dahlias, spray roses, delphinium and lisianthus, they lend a wild, romantic vibe. Elevated arrangements and soft ribbons add movement and depth to the space. The tablescape blends rustic warmth with polished details: Cane-back chairs, River Way dinner set, gold-rimmed glassware, brushed gold flatware and natural ceramic candle holders from Sie Collection Rentals.
From a vintage audio guestbook to a gold-rimmed mirror seating chart, thoughtful details make the celebration feel intimate and meaningful. A garden-inspired cake by Unni Pastries Ltd., hand-painted with soft green brushstrokes and fresh floral accents, ties everything together beautifully. Scented candle favours add a sensory layer of charm.
Canva-designed stationery, wax-seal-style name cards and a hand-painted card box bring personality to the day. A lilacpainted frame for the signature cocktail sign adds a polished touch to the bar. The sweetheart table, draped in chiffon and framed by asymmetrical floral baskets, is a showstopper.

Style tip: Play with varying basket heights and asymmetrical placement for a garden look that feels fresh and modern.
Photographed at the Art Gallery of Hamilton’s Toby + Joey Tanembaum Pavillion, the evening’s setting embraces modern gallery grandeur with simplicity and refinement. From the moment guests arrive, they are immersed in romance, says Alysha Douglas of Every Little Thing. The space feels warm, romantically moody, elegant and timeless. “Our vision was to create a dreamy setting that was the epitome of sophistication, unique and unforgettable where every detail felt thoughtful and intimate,” she adds.
The glowing candlelit atmosphere gives off a refined elegance among the art. The focal point of the pavilion is a dramatic, draped canopy, beneath which a baby grand piano glows in the dreamy candlelight below. Live piano accompaniment enhanced the romantic atmosphere.
The venue and iconic floor-to-ceiling windows act as a continuous modern art installation as guests enjoy views of the gallery’s sculpture garden. The communal dining tables – styled in warm mochas and elegant blacks – are enhanced by richly toned, abundant florals, flickering candlelight and thoughtfully curated tabletop details, elevating the dining experience. Personalized menus and favour boxes, signage and decorative elements add to the ambience of the evening.
Step through the looking glass and into a world where whimsy reigns. This Alice in Wonderland-themed wedding is a celebration of vibrant creativity, playful eccentricity and love that defies the ordinary. The couple embraces the theme, leaning into the venue decked in vibrant and colourful blooms. The tablescape is skirted with mossy chairs, topped with mismatched teacups and colourful treats. A tiered moss cake, with flowers bursting through the side in a riot of colour, also acts as a centrepiece – a lush creation that looks as though it’s plucked straight from Wonderland itself.
The bride dazzles in a sparkling baby-blue dress, reminiscent of Alice’s iconic attire. Subtle makeup creates a striking contrast to the multicoloured bouquet she carries. Nestled among the petals is a peek of playing cards – a nod to the Queen of Hearts. The Mad Hatter groom brings a dash of delightful eccentricity in a tailored jacket with tails, a colourful vest, and a top hat adorned with feathers and playing cards. Sparkling shoes with contrasting socks and a floral boutonniere complete the look.
Two immersive experiences help capture this fairytale celebration: a 360 video booth transports guests into a dreamlike world where they become the stars of their own story, and an interactive mirror-style photo booth invites guests to step up to a looking glass that responds to their touch.
Nestled in the picturesque landscape of King City, this wedding shoot is a breathtaking blend of vintage elegance and timeless romance. The venue, adorned with rich wood features and framed by rolling hills, provides the perfect backdrop for a day filled with classic charm and natural beauty. A vintage car sets the scene for a grand arrival.
The inspiration is to capture a love story that transcends time – a wedding that feels just as enchanting today as it would have decades ago. Every detail is carefully curated to exude vintage sophistication, from the structured bodice and voluminous skirt ball gown to the groom’s refined attire, evoking an era of effortless style.
The floral arrangements are designed to complement the natural beauty of the surroundings. A mix of soft white and fresh greenery adorn the ceremony space, creating a seamless blend between the landscape and the carefully styled elements. Set against the venue’s rustic wood elements and surrounded by lush greenery, the reception space features table settings adorned with vintage-inspired details such as gold-rimmed glassware, antique-style china and candlelit centrepieces. A cascading champagne tower adds a luxe touch, and creates an unforgettable moment of celebration – a perfect nod to sophisticated soirées of the past.

With its natural beauty, warm and welcoming culture, delicious cuisine and rich musical heritage, Jamaica has all the ingredients for a dream wedding.
From incorporating local traditions like ‘jumping the broom,’ which symbolizes sweeping away the old and welcoming in the new as a married couple, to food and entertainment that features local chefs, artists and dancers, there are plenty of ways for couples to add a touch of Jamaican culture to their special day.
But don’t just take our word for it. Jamaica is consistently recognized as a top wedding destination by Canadian travel agents. Says Angella Bennett, Regional Director, Canada of the Jamaica Tourist Board: “Jamaica is a destination synonymous with romance. Couples from around the world have chosen the island as their preferred destination for weddings, honeymoons, elopements, proposals and romantic getaways. It’s a place where visitors can reignite their passion while making memories together, from young lovers to old flames.”
Bennett credits Jamaica’s wide array of world-class hotels, exciting excursions, luxury spas and beautiful landscapes for its longstanding reputation for being a romance destination. In addition to all-inclusive resort properties, Jamaica is home to incredible private villas and

unique event venues for bespoke personalized wedding ceremonies and receptions. Couples can also take advantage of a network of experienced wedding planners and industry suppliers, from tailors and chefs, to musicians and florists. Plus, Jamaica’s impressive infrastructure of resources makes getting married a smooth and seamless process, even if tying the knot at the last minute.
“Couples can be married within 24 hours of arrival on the island, and applying for a marriage licence is a simple process that requires minimal cost and documentation,” says Bennett.
As for beyond the “I do’s,” Jamaica continues to be top of mind among honeymooners, particularly its western coastline where Negril beckons with its laidback vibe, pristine white sand beaches, dramatic cliffsides and beautiful sunset views. But if you ask Bennett, there’s another jewel of a destination that tops even Negril.
“For couples looking for a truly secluded and intimate getaway, Port Antonio is one of my favourite regions of the island,” she says. “Tucked away between the Blue Mountains and the Caribbean Sea, it’s a hidden gem that’s popular with celebrities, thanks to its VIP boutique hotels and off-the-beaten-path villas. Honeymooning couples can also enjoy a variety of eco-chic attractions like guided bamboo rafting on the Rio Grande River and swimming in the spring-fed waters of the Blue Lagoon.”

may be time to put these destination wedding trends out to pasture
BY CINDY SOSROUTOMO
You never want to run the risk of having your destination wedding look and feel tired or boring. How do you avoid this? By giving a hard pass on certain trends that have already run their course. Here are a few that have either been around the block one too many times or could use a refresh in 2025 and beyond.
Though once an excellent way to gather all your guests in one spot either pre- or post-wedding, a catamaran cruise has many people saying “been there, done that.” If you’re looking for an alternative excursion for your guests while in destination, a good first step is to research nearby attractions. Dinner at a local hotspot, horseback riding on the beach or a visit to a nearby museum all provide a glimpse into the local culture. And if you prefer to stay on site at your resort, switch things up with a pickleball tournament or a movie night on the beach.
Since your guests will need ample time to save up enough money and vacation days to attend your destination wedding, save the date cards are a must. But with sustainability no longer just a buzzword, printing out save-the-dates has become an unnecessary expense. Instead, create your own with an app or design tool and send them via text or email, or use an online invitation service that has a built-in RSVP system and customizable templates. Not only is this the more eco-friendly option but you’ll also save a ton on paper and postage. It’s a win-win!
CUSTOM TCHOTCHKES
We get it, it’s hard coming up with good ideas for destination wedding favours. Fifty mini jars of jam are not easy to pack and transport! But this doesn’t mean you should revert to tired ol’ trinkets to gift your guests, many of which will end up in the trash or be left behind at the hotel. Rethink favours like monogrammed sunglasses, bubble wands, fans, flip flops, shot glasses and tote bags. Instead, gift easy-to-pack items that your guests are likely to use upon their return home. We don’t know anyone who wouldn’t appreciate a set of cute measuring spoons, or a vintage luggage tag, or a $5 Starbucks gift card or even scratch lottery tickets! You can even do away with wedding favours altogether and treat your guests to a fun excursion the day after the wedding – it’s a great way to prolong the festivities and say goodbye with one lasting memory.
SAME COLOUR DRESS CODE
Asking your destination wedding guests to all show up wearing the same colour may seem good in theory (the all-white colour scheme definitely had its moment), but in reality, enforcing a dress code is more trouble than it’s worth. There are always one or two guests who didn’t get the memo (thus, sticking out like sore thumbs in the big group shot), and you run the risk of annoying family and friends who’ll have to dish out extra cash to buy a new outfit (when they’ve already spent a small fortune to travel to your wedding in the first place). Giving your guests the freedom to wear what they want will make them and you more relaxed. Having less rules means less stress, not to mention an epic group photo with tons of personality.

It used to be that Facebook was where to go to reunite with high school friends. Instagram has the best recipes, while TikTok is home to dance crazes that instantly go viral. But more and more brides are turning to social media platforms for the latest trends in destination weddings. Are they worth the hype? #YouBet. Here are our favourite destination wedding looks, tips and fads, as seen on social.
We love it when couples go super-creative with their seating charts. From vinyl records, cutting boards and wish trees, to jigsaw puzzles and full-length mirrors etched with names and table numbers, we’ve seen – and loved – them all. But while these elaborate charts are definitely wow-worthy, they’re not exactly practical when having a destination wedding. The solution? Try a digital seating chart that allows your guests to simply scan a QR code to find their seat. There are many apps you can download and online tools you can use to keep every name and table number organized.
Signage plays a huge role in weddings, from welcome signs and table numbers to seating charts and menus. But with a destination wedding, packing large sheets of paper without getting them crushed or wrinkled would be ‘Mission: Impossible.’ The solution? Have everything printed, painted or embroidered on swaths of fabric (tip: linen looks both timeless and elegant). Enlist the help of a printing company or DIY-it with a design tool like Canva and a handy Cricut machine. Just remember to pack a travel-sized steamer to get rid of any last-minute wrinkles.
Now here’s a really crazy one on Instagram, but oh so fun! For the couple who loves to play pickleball together, why not dink a few shots in place of a traditional first dance? Many all-inclusive resorts now offer pickleball courts; work with the on-site wedding coordinator to make the magic happen. And if pickleball isn’t your sport, swap it out with any other hobby or shared interest with your partner – set up a lawn bowling game, shoot some darts, or play Scrabble! The point is to do something you both love to signify your first act as a married couple.
We heard about a teacher on Instagram who asked her young students to write down their definitions of love. She then framed them as centrepieces for her wedding, a heartwarming way to incorporate the students she treasured. To add a fun twist to this fabulous idea, you can ask your kids, nieces, nephews or – if you’re a teacher, too – your students to draw you and your partner doing fun things in your wedding destination. Hanging 10 in Hawaii, cliff diving in Jamaica, or eating spaghetti in Rome – the funnier, the better! Then frame them and display them for all to see.
If you’re getting married abroad, it’s only fitting to send out wedding invitations that double as ‘passports.’ We’ve seen these incredible custom invitations on TikTok that look and feel like the real deal, mini booklets with pages that not only include wedding details, but also hotel information, in-destination travel tips and beautiful photos of the wedding couple. For something extra fun, ask your guests to bring their passports to the wedding and stamp each one with a ‘Just Married’ stamp when they arrive at your reception.
Where did your passion for weddings come from, and what makes each one personally meaningful?
My passion for weddings comes from the magic of witnessing love in its most palpable form and the joy that fills the air. Being part of a day a couple has long envisioned is incredibly fulfilling. I’m deeply moved by the symbolism of two people uniting—a moment that always leaves a lasting impression on my heart.
What's the most fulfilling part of your work in wedding planning?
The most fulfilling part of wedding planning isn’t just one moment—it’s the entire journey. From shaping the initial vision to coordinating every detail and watching it all come to life, the process itself is the ultimate reward. The greatest gratification comes when couples tell us their day was even more extraordinary than they ever imagined—that’s what drives us.
What led you to begin your career at Sandals, and what was it about resort and wedding planning that captivated your interest?
My journey with Sandals began 28 years ago, after working in wedding and event management at Florida’s renowned Biltmore Hotel, but my heart always longed to return home to Jamaica. When the opportunity to join Sandals and Beaches Resorts—my dream brand—arose, I embraced it, and there’s been indescribable joy in bringing couples’ unique wedding visions to life ever since.
Among the diverse options at Sandals Resorts, which ceremony settings stand out as your personal favorites?
My favorite ceremony settings are our Over-the-Water Chapels—walking down the glass-paneled aisle feels like gliding on water, and they’re available in Jamaica, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and the Bahamas. For more intimate celebrations, we offer breathtaking locations tucked within lush tropical landscapes, while our beach ceremonies remain a classic favorite with white sand and vibrant Caribbean waters. With Sandals and Beaches, couples truly can have it all.
Are there any specific destinations that are particularly popular right now?
Overwater Chapels, Beach and the Gardens
What's your average wedding size? It really varies but on average, typically 20-40
In what ways are Sandals weddings adapting to evolving trends, and what new guest desires are you seeing emerge?
While grand celebrations remain popular, more couples are embracing intimate gatherings, from microweddings with 20 guests to lively events with up to 100. Bold Caribbean flavors, signature drinks, and welcome cocktails with island-inspired bites are setting a festive tone for these celebrations. A 7-night stay continues to be a favorite, seamlessly blending
the wedding with a romantic, adventurefilled honeymoon.
Could you share what you feel makes Sandals so beloved by guests, particularly highlighting the unique aspects that make a Sandals wedding truly memorable?
At Sandals, we’re known for creating beautiful, stress-free destination weddings that capture the essence of the Caribbean. With every detail infused with authentic island charm and framed by breathtaking natural beauty, each celebration becomes a truly unforgettable experience.
Could you share one of the most memorable compliments you or your team has received from a client?
We’re fortunate to receive many heartfelt compliments, but when a couple says, “This is beyond anything we could have dreamed; you truly exceeded our expectations,” we know we’ve made a real impact. It’s equally meaningful when couples return to celebrate their anniversaries with us, showing we’ve created something truly special and lasting.
When do you recommend couples start planning their Sandals wedding?
The timeline for a Sandals destination wedding depends on each couple’s unique needs, with many booking about a year in advance. Allowing a year is ideal when inviting guests, giving them plenty of time to prepare, while 3 to 6 months is common for elopements or intimate celebrations. No matter your timeline, we’re here to guide you every step of the way.
Looking ahead, what excites you most about 2025 and beyond?
I'm most excited about creating more destination weddings that bring together larger groups of friends and family. This allows us to foster more love, joy, fun, and countless lifelong memories for everyone who joins us on this incredible journey.
Here’s the scene: the sand is soft, the ocean breeze is laced with salt and sunlight, and just steps away, the Caribbean Sea glitters like it’s celebrating too.
Ten years ago, Imani and D’Andre met at a party at Rutgers where sparks flew, but the timing wasn’t right. So they stayed friends, tethered by something invisible and steady. A decade later, that same tie led them to Jamaica — a place that already felt like home, especially for D’Andre, who was born there.
On the shores of Sandals ® South Coast, down walk Imani and D’Andre over an aisle of sand perfectly framed by the ocean. They were wrapped in sunlight, surrounded by the people who knew their story best. Imani had dreamed of the perfect wedding since her childhood — soft light,
ocean breeze, florals just so. The Sandals Wedding Team made it all come together.
From mood board to final bloom, every petal was in its place. When D’Andre saw her, he was breathless, and the whole world seemed to pause.
In the Caribbean, stress-free isn’t a bonus: it’s how we do things. Our team handles every detail, from first call to first kiss, with local know-how and island care. You and your guests can just show up and soak it in.
Imani and D’Andre let love lead and it brought them here. Your forever can start in the Caribbean too. All you have to do is say yes.
‘THE ISLAND IN THE SUN’ HAS EVERYTHING YOU NEED FOR WEDDED BLISS
BY CINDY SOSROUTOMO
The numbers say it all: travellers can’t get enough of Jamaica. In 2024, the island welcomed a record-breaking 4.1 million visitors – a 25.5% increase over the previous year. And with 2.4 million arrivals already recorded in the first half of 2025, Jamaica is on track to have yet another massive year. For countless reasons, it’s the perfect place for relaxing vacations – and ultra-romantic weddings.
“Jamaica is the picture-perfect destination for weddings, honeymoons, proposals and elopements. We work hand-in-glove with our key industry partners to enhance the visitor experience, and our Jamaica Travel Specialists are fully equipped to promote Jamaica as the ultimate wedding destination,” says Angella Bennett, Regional Director, Canada, Jamaica Tourist Board. “With its stunning landscapes, welcoming culture, rich musical heritage and delicious cuisine, our island hits all the must-haves you could want on your special day.”
WHERE TO SAY “I DO”? While couples tend to stick to Jamaica’s most popular coastal areas – Montego Bay, Ocho Rios and Negril – the island is home to an abundance of gorgeous locales to tie the knot. Try Port Antonio or Runaway Bay for a quieter vibe, or even the capital of Kingston for incredible culture.
BEST TIME TO WED: If you want to avoid the winter crowds, the off-season offers plenty of great travel deals and an abundance of music and cultural festivals. Keep in mind that May and October often see heavy rainfall, while north coast areas tend to receive more rain than Negril or Montego Bay.
TOP RESORTS FOR WEDDINGS: There’s certainly no shortage of beautiful places to wed in Jamaica. From allinclusive resorts to private villas and event venues, couples are spoiled for choice when it comes to their wedding day. Popular resorts with wedding packages include Royalton Negril, Sandals Montego Bay, Hyatt Zilara Rose Hall, Grand Palladium Jamaica and more.
NON-TRADITIONAL WEDDINGS: “We focus on niche markets, like South Asian weddings. Whether you’re looking for an intimate gazebo ceremony or a ballroom reception, Jamaica’s vast selection of luxury resorts and villas can design the wedding day of your dreams,” says Bennett.
LEGAL REQUIREMENTS: Couples can wed within 24 hours of arrival in Jamaica if all paperwork has been completed (many resorts and venues will even do it for you). This includes getting a marriage licence, which is a same-day process, lasts for three months, and costs less than US$40.
HOW TO GET TO JAMAICA: Air Canada is launching two new direct weekly routes this winter season to Jamaica: Ottawa-Montego Bay, running from Dec. 7, 2025 to April 12, 2026, and Halifax-Montego Bay, operating from Dec. 4, 2025 to April 9, 2026. The airline is also increasing frequencies from Toronto (up from 7 to 10 weekly flights) and Montreal (up from 3 to 4 weekly flights).

There’s plenty to love about getting out of town for your big day. Escaping the everyday and hosting a mini vacation for your nearest and dearest is a great way to turn a one-day event into an extended celebration with your favourite folks in a new location you can discover together.
With that said, travel to some popular destination wedding spots abroad packs a little more baggage these days so it probably comes as no surprise that domestic travel is on the rise. When it comes to future vacation plans, 25% of Canadians say they’ll be staying closer to home, according to a 2025 study by Blue Cross. Statistics Canada also reports a 35% drop in crossborder trips compared to last year.
Destination brides, however, need not stress. From intimate oceanside celebrations to elaborate vineyard vows, there is no shortage of exotic wedding locales in our own backyard. We’ve sourced some of the best places to host a destination wedding across Canada. The best part? There’s no need to pack your passport.
Elevate outdoorsy-chic nuptials with a magical forest wedding framed by the Rocky Mountains. Yoho National Park in eastern British Columbia not only offers jaw-dropping snow-capped summits, lush forests and towering waterfalls but also some of the most striking emerald waters you’ve ever laid eyes on. Serenity is a given in this secluded year-round wedding location, which boasts vibrant wildflowers in summer and a sparkling blanket of snow in winter. Guests will adore the opportunity to disconnect, whether while canoeing on Emerald Lake, visiting Takakkaw Falls (one of Canada’s highest waterfalls), crosscountry skiing or snowshoeing in winter or simply kicking back in nature with a glass of wine and a good book.
Host your celebration at Emerald Lake Lodge, originally built in 1902 by the Canadian Pacific Railway. This 85-room rustic-chic resort – a two-and-a-half-hour drive from Calgary International Airport – offers a one-of-a-kind scenic ceremony spot: the View Point, a clearing overlooking the lake and backed by the Rockies, which can accommodate 20 seats or more if guests are standing. For your reception, move indoors to one of several function spaces: Cilantro on the Lake can host up to 64 guests for dinner and dancing while the President’s Room is perfect for more intimate parties. What makes Emerald Lake Lodge particularly unique is that the property has a destination wedding offering typically reserved exclusively for celebrities and billionaires – the opportunity to “rent your own island.” The resort is actually located on its own island and choosing this option – a total buy-out to gain access to every function room, guestroom and amenity – means the property becomes your own private paradise.
Treat your guests to a full-service resort wedding unlike anything they’ve ever experienced by hosting your celebration on traditional Indigenous territory just 20 minutes from Saskatoon. Nestled in the South Saskatchewan River Valley Basin with a landscape marked by stretches of sand and prairie grasses, you’ll find Dakota Dunes Resort. This 155-room property on traditional Whitecap Dakota Territory pairs world-class hospitality with authentic Indigenous experiences.
The resort ticks all the boxes with an indoor rooftop pool, restaurant, 18-hole championship golf course and casino next door, as well as a new thermal spa opening in 2026 and several different venues for
your celebration. In summer, gather with up to 200 guests in Dakota Dunes Garden, a natural outdoor amphitheatre with sweeping sand dunes and open prairie as your backdrop or, for a smaller party, opt for the property’s rooftop patio with panoramic golf course and golden sunset views. Dakota Dunes can accommodate receptions up to 450 people in its Tatanka Ballroom or smaller receptions of up to 100 people in its Wildhorse Room.
What makes this all-season wedding destination particularly special are the opportunities to connect to the spirit and culture of the land and its people. Open your celebration with a traditional blessing or smudge ceremony for spiritual cleansing and protection then treat guests to a menu featuring elevated Indigenous cuisine followed by a live performance by traditional singers, a drum group or traditional dancers from the community – all highlighting the Dakota way of life, which emphasizes respect for others and the environment.
Dreaming of a farm-to-table gathering in a stunning rural setting? Set your sights on the Charlevoix region, a four-season destination roughly an hour north of Quebec City where farmland contrasts the wild beauty of the St. Lawrence River framed by distant rocky peaks. The unique – some say magnetic – terroir of the area, shaped by a meteorite strike 400 million years ago, makes it ideal for adventure and gastronomy alike. Outdoorsy types will love summer hiking and whale-watching or skiing in winter at Le Massif while foodies will flock to Charlevoix’s award-winning cheesemakers and distilleries.
Plan your celebration at Hotel & Spa Le Germain Charlevoix, outside of Baie Saint-Paul, to experience the best the region has to offer – including an on-site farm. For your summer ceremony book The Wedding Field, a magical open-air space amidst gently swaying crop fields, which seats up to 200. Leave room on the guest list for the property’s highland cattle, alpacas, ducks, goats and chickens. For your reception, move indoors to The Multi Room, a modern space with natural accents that can be easily personalized to suit your style. True to the gastronomic reputation of the region, the hotel prides itself on its culinary offerings, working with surrounding farms and suppliers to source the freshest ingredients available. Sixty-five varieties of fruits, vegetables and herbs are grown on-property as well as 20 varieties of flowers – ask about using them for your bouquet!
You don’t need to head south for a wedding day complete with laid-back beach vibes and fresh ocean breezes. Instead, consider an intimate summer soiree in the quaint fishing village of St. Martins, New Brunswick, just 20 minutes outside of Saint John. Situated on the Bay of Fundy, the area is known for its jaw-dropping cliffs, sea caves, covered bridges and nearby lighthouses so you’ll have no shortage of unique photo locations. Your guests will adore the rugged beauty and tranquility of St. Martins, with lots of opportunities to hike, kayak and explore the region’s shipbuilding history.
Book your party at the Beach Street Inn, a charming, family-owned boutique hotel steps from the ocean with 14 recently renovated rooms and venues that can host up to 75 guests. You can exchange vows on the waterfront lawn of the Victorian Captain’s House, where the Bay of Fundy provides a breathtaking backdrop, then gather on the front lawn of the inn for cocktails while enjoying uninterrupted ocean views and the relaxed rhythm of the village. A tent erected on the inn’s patio and decked out with twinkle lights provides the perfect spot for a reception featuring fresh Maritime fare and plenty of dancing. Book roughly a year in advance and have the place entirely to yourselves.
Planning a winery wedding that will have guests buzzing doesn’t have to come with exorbitant costs and jetlag – especially considering Canada is home to several worldclass wine regions. Niagara-on-the-Lake, roughly 90 minutes by car from Toronto’s Pearson International Airport, is a charming town surrounded by orchards and producers of top shelf cool-climate varietals such as riesling, chardonnay, gamay noir, pinot noir and cabernet franc. In addition to tasting tours and gorgeous lakeside views, guests can take in some theatre before or after your big day with the Shaw Festival, running annually from April through December.
124 on Queen Hotel and Spa provides the perfect homebase for your celebration, no matter the season, with 76 guestrooms, two on-site restaurants, function spaces that can host up to 130 guests and a 12,000-square-foot spa. Choose from the property’s historic Gate House featuring floor-to-ceiling windows or the contemporary NOTL Bar & Restaurant, which hosts ceremonies in a covered patio courtyard setting overlooking a water feature. You can also plan your party at a nearby winery like Stratus, which offers a vineyard ceremony setting and two indoor reception spaces. Stratus specializes in wine-focused events and its family of sommeliers can help you craft the perfect pairings to complement your union.

Few things are more romantic than a starlit sky. The vastness of it, the stillness and gentle glow can transform any late-night stroll or bendedknee proposal into a moment for the ages. It’s no wonder, then, that couples are seeking out stargazing destinations for their honeymoons, where velvety skies, clear conditions and breathtaking landscapes set the stage for romance. From remote deserts to the wonder of Dark Sky Preserves, these magical locales are simply written in the stars.
JASPER, ALBERTA
Canada is lucky to have 13 Dark Sky Preserves, protected areas where light pollution has been reduced or eliminated to preserve the night. Among them is Jasper National Park, the second largest Dark Sky Preserve in the world, spanning 11,000 square kilometres of pristine night sky. October is the best time to go, with revellers travelling from all over for the annual Jasper Dark Sky Festival. But for couples seeking a cosmic
connection on their honeymoon – and a chance to glimpse the famed aurora borealis – any time during the fall and winter months, when nights are longest, offer some of the most breathtaking views. Pro tip: look to the skies between 11:00 p.m. and 1:00 a.m., also known as ‘magnetic midnight,’ when you have the best shot at seeing the Northern Lights.
MAUNAKEA, HAWAI‘I
As the highest point in Hawai‘i – and the entire Pacific Basin – Maunakea is quite literally the closest you can get to the heavens in this part of the world. Rising to about 13,800 feet above sea level on the island of Hawai‘i, this dormant volcano – which last erupted more than 4,000 years ago – is renowned for its cloudless atmosphere and minimal light pollution, making it the perfect site for the world’s
largest astronomical observatory. While visitors are discouraged from venturing beyond the Visitor Information Station (VIS) on their own, they can still enjoy panoramic views at 9,200 feet, take part in year-round stargazing programs, or reach the summit with a certified tour operator like Mauna Kea Summit Adventures. At the top, beneath a star-filled sky, it’s easy to see why Maunakea is considered one of the most sacred spots in all of Hawai‘i.
KERRY, IRELAND
On a clear, moonless night in southwest Ireland, look up and you’ll see thousands of stars in every shape and colour, the Milky Way in all its glory, along with nebulas, satellites and even planets – all visible to the naked eye. At the heart of the region lies the Kerry International Dark Sky Reserve, the only Gold Tier Reserve in the Northern Hemisphere – an honour given to areas with minimal, if any, impact from artificial light or light pollution. Situated on the Iveragh Peninsula and home to nearly 4,000 residents, the Reserve also features the added bonus of a playground, a church, a pub, hostel, a chocolate factory, a historic home and gardens and several beaches – more than enough to make any honeymoon feel positively magical.
MACKENZIE, NEW ZEALAND
For an other-worldly honeymoon, the Mackenzie region at the heart of New Zealand’s South Island is hard to beat. Here, you’ll find the Aoraki Mackenzie International Dark Sky Reserve – the largest in the
Southern Hemisphere and the third largest on earth –renowned for having some of the most awe-inspiring night skies in the world. Spanning both Aoraki/ Mount Cook National Park and the Mackenzie Basin, the Reserve’s vast open landscapes, coupled with exceptionally clear skies, create a setting straight out of a dream. Tour a working observatory, float in a hammock in a hot pool, learn astrophotography from a local expert, or simply cosy up under a blanket and admire the view.
Chile’s Atacama Desert is a sight to behold in the light of day. But at night? It’s unlike anything else on earth. Considered the second driest desert in the world, this 1,600-kilometre stretch of red-rock canyons and lunarlike peaks is one of the best places on the planet for stargazing, thanks to a rare trifecta: high altitude, an arid climate and almost no light pollution. Its Southern Hemisphere location offers another advantage: a direct view toward the centre of the Milky Way, providing front-row seats to billions of stars. Depending on the time of year, you’ll be able to spot constellations like the Southern Cross, the Jewel Box Cluster and Omega Centauri. And when you’ve had your fill of the night sky, unwind in nearby Elqui Valley or San Pedro de Atacama – both ideal home bases for a stargazing getaway.
Want to stay in the moment while on your honeymoon? Unplug yourself from all distractions with these useful tips.

After the whirlwind of your wedding, sipping cocktails on the beach is exactly what you needed to relax and recharge as newlyweds. But then … your phone rings with an urgent message from your boss, or you get a reminder for an upcoming appointment, or you feel your fingers twitching to check your email. Before you know it, you’ve spent your entire honeymoon answering messages and scrolling on your phone. To truly detach yourself from the daily grind (and celebrate your newly married status), you’ll need to pull the plug on all your devices – your phone, tablet, laptop, all of it. Sounds impossible? Maybe. But with paradise all around, it’s certainly worth a shot.
Before you leave for your honeymoon, tell your family and friends to leave you alone. Sounds harsh, right? But giving your loved ones a head’s up that you don’t want to be disturbed while on your trip is a must if you’re going to digitally detox. This means no calls to tell you the latest gossip, no texts about lunch next week, and no updates on the latest Netflix binge. Emergencies only – period. Simply alert those closest to you that you’ve arrived safely and that you’ll be in touch again upon your arrival home.
It seems obvious but turning on your out-of-office message before departing on your honeymoon will give you the peace of mind of not having to reply to work emails while you’re away. You can take this one step further and turn on a vacation alert for your personal email account too, which will notify Aunt Jean who’s looking for your banana bread recipe that she’ll have to wait for a reply until your return.
Perhaps unplugging from all devices for 24/7 is too much to bear – and that’s okay. So long as you and your partner agree to the same parameters, there won’t be any squabbles over who’s posting what and when. Decide on a digital detox plan before leaving for your honeymoon. Maybe answering emails before breakfast is allowed, or posting one photo or video a day on your socials is the way to go. If you’re both on the same page about what’s acceptable when it comes to screen time, your honeymoon will be the better for it.
In today’s digital age, there’s hardly a need for anything paper. Airline tickets, hotel confirmations, spa reservations, car rentals – all of it gets sent straight to your inbox or digital wallet. But we know how it goes – once you check your phone for your boarding pass, you’ll reply to other emails, which will lead to your family group chat and before long you’re on YouTube watching the funny goat clip your cousin just forwarded. Avoid all temptation by printing every booking, confirmation and reservation before heading to the airport. Having paper copies of all essential documents will keep you off your phone and in the moment.
COUPLES WHO ENJOY ADVENTUREON-A-BUDGET AND LUXURY LIVING ARE FINDING THEY CAN DO BOTH WITH TWO-PRONGED HONEYMOONS
BY VAWN HIMMELSBACH
Planning to tie the knot? Along with deciding on a venue, guest list and wedding attire, you also have to consider what comes afterward: the honeymoon. Does that involve lazy days on a palm-lined beach? Or would you rather swap hiking boots for flip flops?
The good news is you don’t have to choose – the latest honeymoon trend combines the best of both. Two-pronged itineraries allow you to indulge your sense of adventure (and maybe save a bit of cash) at unique, moderately priced accommodations and then top it off with a splurge-worthy hotel or resort.
Here are a few destinations where you can get the best of both worlds.
Spread out across 32 islands and cays in West Indies, St. Vincent and the Grenadines offers volcanic landscapes, lush rainforests and secluded beaches –and remains a less crowded option to other Caribbean honeymoon destinations. On the main island, there’s no shortage of adventure, from hiking up La Soufrière volcano, to taking a dip in Dark View Falls or ATVing along the rugged coastline. For divers and snorkellers, Tobago Cays Marine Park – a cluster of five uninhabited cays – offers a sand-bottom lagoon, coral reefs and secluded beaches and bays. Adventurous newlyweds can take kite-surfing lessons on Union Island, staying in a shabby-chic cottage at Tenuta Chatham Bay. Then, they can unwind at a luxury property on Bequia or Canouan (or even a private island like Petit St. Vincent).
SOHO Beach House Canouan is a piece of secluded paradise along Grand Bay Beach (and the only SOHO property open to non-members) where newlyweds can enjoy a private romantic dinner on the jetty.
While it’s not a traditional honeymoon destination, Iceland offers everything from outdoor adventure and otherworldly fire-and-ice landscapes to luxury properties inspired by Scandinavian design principles. It’s well suited for road-tripping, where newlyweds can explore ice caves and glaciers, board a RIB boat to look for puffins or humpback whales and hike in one of the country’s national parks such as Thingvellir, Snæfellsjökull or Vatnajökull. Iceland is also known for its natural hot springs, and options include Myvatn Nature Baths near Akureyri or Vök Baths in Vök. For a unique stay, newlyweds can start their adventure at Bubble Hotel Iceland, with two locations, and sleep under a sky full of stars – and maybe even the Northern Lights. Then, they can soak their sore muscles during a stay at The Retreat at the Blue Lagoon, with exclusive access to the world-famous geothermal spa along with Michelin-starred dining.
Thailand arguably has some of the best beaches in the world, but there’s a lot more to this Southeast Asian country than sand and surf. An action-packed honeymoon might include a visit to bustling night markets in Bangkok or Chiang Mai, visiting one of the country’s 40,000 Buddhist temples or hiking through dense rainforest in Khao Sok National Park. Starting out in Chiang Mai, the country’s cultural capital, newlyweds can opt to stay in a family-run guesthouse, like BaanBooLoo Village, with its traditional Thai rooms on stilts, teak furnishings and woven Thai fabrics. From there, they can soak up the sun on one (or more) of Thailand’s many islands, ending their honeymoon on a high note in an ultra-luxe property like Four Seasons Resort Koh Samui (yes, the one where The White Lotus was filmed). There, they can even arrange an overnight luxury yacht charter with a Four Seasons chef.
Honeymooning on the ‘Island of Flowers’ combines the romance of France with the laid-back vibe of the Caribbean. Think wine bars, boulangeries and chic boutiques, along with friendly locals, French-Creole cuisine and palm-lined beaches. Newlyweds can stay active with surfing lessons or a hike in Presqu'Île Caravelle Nature Reserve – or simply relax on the beaches of Grande Anse des Salines or Pointe Marin. There aren’t many big-name hotel chains here; rather, newlyweds will have their choice of quaint B&Bs, small inns (called relais) with open-air kitchenettes, heritage estates and private villas. Newlyweds can kick things off with a stay in a colourful Creole cottage at Hotel Plein Soleil, then pamper themselves at the boutique Hôtel French Coco, where most suites come with a private pool that opens up onto a secluded jasmine-scented garden.
The Emerald Isle oozes romance, from its pastoral landscapes to its dramatic coastlines. Newlyweds with a sense of adventure can explore the Wild Atlantic Way, which winds its way along Ireland’s dramatic west coast – perhaps cycling the coastline of Connemara or sea kayaking in Dingle. But adventure comes in many forms, whether taking in the lively pub scene in Dublin or visiting Game of Thrones filming locations in Northern Ireland. Newlyweds have access to bikes, kayaks and yoga classes – and a wood-fired hot tub overlooking the ocean – at Goleen Harbour, a 38-acre eco-farm near Cork. Then, for a bit a luxury, why not stay in castle? There are plenty of options in Ireland, like the fairytale Ashford Castle near Galway, part of The Red Carnation Hotel Collection, which has been there for more than 800 years (and was once home to the Guinness family!). Here, newlyweds can experience classic pastimes such as horse riding or falconry, then book a wine tasting by candlelight in the castle’s historic wine cellars.
There’s no shortage of outdoor adventure in Costa Rica, where you can zipline through forest canopy, visit a sloth sanctuary or soak in hot springs at the base of Arenal Volcano. About one-quarter of Costa Rica’s natural assets are protected in national parks, wildlife reserves and marine sanctuaries, and visitors have plenty of options for sustainable, eco-friendly stays. Newlyweds will find themselves at eye level with birds and monkeys at Hidden Canopy Treehouses, located in the cloud forests of Monteverde, where they’ll sleep in a bed made of tree roots. From there, the 178-acre Hacienda AltaGracia, part of the Auberge Resorts Collection, offers luxe casitas – many with a private plunge pool and terrace. Here, there’s easy access to adventure (like taking a helicopter to a secluded section of the Pacuare River for white water rafting). But the resort’s pièce de resistance is the Casa de Agua spa, with a serene couple’s suite that looks out over the surrounding forest.
While French Polynesia is perhaps best known for its blue lagoons and overwater bungalows on Bora Bora and Moorea, this string of more than 120 islands and atolls in the South Pacific has a lot more on offer. On Tahiti, you can explore its lush, volcanic mountains by road bike or on a 4WD safari. Then go island-hopping: visit vanilla bean plantations on Taha’a, archaeological sites on Raiatea and waterfalls in the jungles of Moorea. For adventurous newlyweds, the atoll of Fakarava – with just 800 inhabitants – is part of a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and considered one of the world’s best diving destinations. The Paparara Dive and Lodge is a pension that offers simple bungalows and lagoon views (plus, access to its dive lodge). Then, couples can top it off with five-star luxury at The St. Regis Bora Bora Resort, with its spacious, glassbottomed overwater villas (and a 24-hour butler at their service). Here, they’ll also find one of the top dining experiences on the island at The Lagoon, an overwater restaurant with views of Mount Otemanu, and a spa on its own private islet.
