This month Today Publications celebrates its 14th birthday!

I thank everyone who has supported any of the 6 publications that we now have during those 14 years. From the contributors who regularly provide details of their group’s events and meetings, to the distributors who get the magazines out to local homes and of course the advertisers without whom there could be no magazine. Thank you also to all our readers particularly those who use the local businesses, services, clubs and societies promoted within our pages.

I never cease to be amazed at how important community magazines are, and the number of people who tell me how useful they find them.

They play a part in linking people together; helping businesses to grow; and providing people with some traditional print media to enjoy with a cup of tea!

Next month I will be adding our 7th magazine to those published. This time a publication for the residents of Woodfield Plantation, Carr Lodge and Alverley. If you would like to be in this magazine then please let me know.

I hope that you will continue to enjoy YOUR community magazine for many years to come.

Doncaster Cancer Detection Trust

We now have a date for our Mile of Coins appeal which will be from Monday, 1st April to Saturday, 6th April in the Frenchgate Centre.

We will be there from 10am to 3pm collecting donations and will also hopefully have Paul Stainton and his colleagues on static cycles raising extra funds for us on certain days. Come along for a chat - we always look forward to meeting you all. ΖW LV DOVR WLPH WR EUXVK RÎ? \RXU ZDONLQJ ERRWV DQG shoes and register for our annual Midsummer Walk. This will be on Sunday, 19th May from Town Fields to Lakeside and return. The route is suitable for wheelchairs, pushchairs and is dog friendly. The walk is approximately 6 miles, but shorter distances are available to accommodate everyone's ability. It is ÂŁ6 per person, but free for disabled and children under 12. Becoming More Self-Aware

Thinking about the last 7 days…

You may have heard phrases such as…

(There are a few examples at the beginning of this article)

What annoyed you?

What did you enjoy more than expected?

What could you be grateful for?

Where did you make a mistake and what can you lesson from that mistake?

What action should you have taken but procrastinated on?

“You can’t fix a problem you don’t know exists”

Every day, 5 minutes before you go to bed, write down your answers to them and use these answers to set targets or at least increase awareness in the direction you wish the next 24 hours to take.

If you take only even a couple of minutes to think about your answers to these questions, you may find some interesting and always useful insights.

With so much information swimming around our heads, it’s no wonder we rarely take the time to reflect, but we should.

Self-awareness is one of the most overlooked, simplest and yet extremely powerful ways to take responsibility for your position in life and create genuine noticeable improvements.

“What gets monitored gets done” “You don’t know what you don’t know” …and so on. I believe them all!

There are as many connections in 1 cubic cm of your brain as there are stars in the entire Milky Way galaxy…in other words, there’s a lot going on upstairs!

Unless you find a way to consciously let your brain know what to look out for (what’s important to you) then it’ll make the choices for you.

It’s a simple exercise but one you’ll feel working after only a short time doing it.

As always, go create a day and life that counts & always have more desires than excuses.

Make a list of 5-10 questions you feel will provide you with the best insight and reminders into the areas of your life you wish to improve.

Hardy annual seeds can handle being frozen in the soil so are ideal for planting outside, either in the autumn or now.

Productive, adaptable and cheap, they are the ideal credit-crunch plants. They are also easy-to-grow, so are brilliant for beginner gardeners.

Doncaster Rambler’s visit Tickhill

A record number of 51 ramblers met on this crisp, bright morning in the centre of Tickhill. After an initial introduction and some historical facts about the village, we took a westerly direction towards the remains of Maltby Mine, passing bushes full of hazel catkins - a sure sign that Spring is on its way.

On route we passed a memorial to the miners who lost their lives in an explosion directly under our feet. We began to circle back and followed Stump Cross Lane where David explained the complex process by which the footpath had been re-established for use by the public.

We arrived back in Tickhill from the south by way of the Mill Dam and castle where interpretive boards provided interesting background information. There was a choice of a pub or several cafes which was helpful, given the large number of walkers.

After rest and refreshments 44 of us emerged for the shorter afternoon section to be met by greyer VNLHV EXW WKDQNIXOO\ WKH IRUHFDVWHG UDLQ KHOG RÎ? :H followed an easterly circuit crossing over the A1M and returning alongside the juvenile River Torne.

Hi Everyone, How lovely to see the snowdrops popping their little heads out and at last we can focus on spring being around the corner.

The Sanctuary is full to overflowing, however we have been really busy since Christmas watching dogs and cats go to their forever homes.

We are taking care of some beautiful dogs and cats at the moment, so if you are looking for that special pet, young or old please come to see us.

Our kennel carers are very knowledgeable and will let you know which dog they feel would be right for you.

When someone adopts a dog from us, we ask that they come to our Dog Listener talk on a Saturday morning before taking their chosen dog home.

This is especially helpful if you are a first-time dog owner but everyone finds this very helpful, even people that have had dogs all of their life find the talk is very informative.

We are holding a table top sale in the Scout Headquarters on St Marys Road in Tickhill on the 6th April. Why not clear the clutter and help our Sanctuary. There will be a 50p entry, also cake, tea

Police Report The Central Neighbourhood Team has gained an additional sergeant this month in the shape of PS Liam Walters. Liam joins us from response and will be based at Rossington Police station. Activity in the last month has comprised of a number of speed operations as a result of complaints raised from members of the public.

On Bawtry Road we checked 44 vehicles and 5 were found to be exceeding the limit.

Patrols around Lakeside recently resulted in a male being arrested for going equipped after he was seen looking into parked vehicles and trying door KDQGOHV +H ZDV FKDUJHG ZLWK WKLV R΍ HQFH Crime in the area is relatively low this month. There were 3 residential burglaries reported. One of these was domestic related, one attempt where a window was prised but no entry gained and one where a

patio door was forced but the R΍ HQGHU ZDV GLVWXUEHG E\ WKH RFFXSDQW VR UDQ R΍ ZLWKRXW DQ\ property. There were 3 thefts from motor vehicles reported and 1 theft of a motor vehicle that was taken from inside a compound.

Cantley Community Christmas Hello (and a belated happy new year) to everyone.

It was great to see so many people enjoy the Christmas tree we managed to put up in December. It was D UHDO HÎ? RUW RQ D ORW RI SHRSOHČ&#x2021;V SDUWV WR JHW WR SURMHFW completed on time and Iâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;d just like to quickly write a little something about it.

Early last year after wrapping up the previous Christmas festivities it got me thinking that I hadnâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t noticed anything â&#x20AC;&#x153;Christmassyâ&#x20AC;? in the village, and being previously from another village, they did used to have quite a lot of things going on. So, I enquired as to why we donâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t, and itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s because we donâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t have a parish council, and therefore we donâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t have any budget for such things, and whilst we could almost certainly create a parish council. Iâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;m sure many people wouldnâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t wish to see a rise in the council rates to accommodate it. But thatâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s for another time.

So, I promptly created a Facebook group â&#x20AC;&#x153;Cantley Community Christmasâ&#x20AC;? via the Cantley Notice Board, and people joined with the aim of bringing a Christmas tree to the village and a project for all the groups in the village to work on together as a whole with the intention of really empowering our community. We KDG RXU Č´ UVW PHHWLQJ DJUHHG LW ZDV D JRRG LGHD EXW it was probably a little early to start. Later in the year ZH NLFNHG RÎ? WKH SURMHFW ZLWK WKH LGHD WKH ZH FRXOG hold a Christmas market and lights switch on which would have been great. However, thereâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s no suitable power source at the chosen site and having spoken with DMBC, there were many reasons we couldnâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t get one in, at least for last year anyway.

We faced varying challenges with planning, insurance, raising funds, risk assessments etcâ&#x20AC;ŚIt seemed like a huge mountain to climb for something which seemed so simple. But a key group of people made it happen, and although we didnâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t get our Christmas market or lights switch on this time around, we were able to fully fund the project we did opt to deliver, namely the tree.

Each school in the area was approached about the project and the idea that they could help us by allowing the children to design their own piece of bunting for a small donation of 50p which we would hang on the tree for them to show their parents. The idea was a hit, and it very pleasing to see children and adults wondering around it. It was heart warming to see people from the various churches sing carols next to

This year weâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;re hoping to be able to get another tree, an electricity connection for the lights so we can hold a Christmas market and lights switch on event, hopefully each year we can get a little bigger.

It was a mansion sized dwelling carved from sandstone and featured a network of tunnels decorated with carvings.
