If you can dream it you can do it” a quote by Walt Disney stands true for the inception of Club ToastEd. We saw a dream of bringing people from learning & development domain together under one roof of Toastmasters and create a different experience of toastmasters meetings. After a good 6 consecutive and consistent meetings the dream became a reality. Needless to say, that reality translated much better than the dream.

On Friday, 9th December 2021 Club ToastEd officially got chartered. We echoed a singular and clear message about what we are and where are we heading to. As a result we attracted likeminded people who shared our vision and made the our club foundation strong. Being strong and different was definitely not an illusion. From our 20 charter members 18 were new toastmasters.

They took over the challenge of participating in Area 28 contest just within one month of inception of the Club ToastEd and they all aced the Area contest. Each participant brought home one award was quite an audacious mission. Not only contestants but our representatives for various roles in Area and Division contest shone like stars.

Within no time we were up with all our social media handles. Building a social media presence is a herculean task, our vibrant VPPR’s tireless efforts made our presence remarkable. It was a great boon when we completed our next juggernaut mission of UCOW(United Colors Of Women). UCOW was a massive project and it was a real-time test of teamwork and agile leadership for each member. With the entire team’s resilience and hard work, UCOW has become a masterpiece to showcase how can we make the most of our pathways projects by doing real-life projects.

We are one of those few clubs that have our club vision along with Toastmaster’s club mission in place. Our vision statement is “We are a global family of agile and passionate learners”. KEO is yet another USP of Club ToastEd. We being a group of agile and passionate learners, provide a platform for our members and for all those who have something to say. KEO stands for Knowledge, Experience & Opportunities.

I am so proud to say that all our members contributed in building a club to be proud of and they all carry the same pride and love for their club. Their love and joy are so infectious that all our guests carry home the same feelings. Dreaming could be one person’s job but building on any idea single-handedly is simply impossible. The tireless efforts and moral support to each other in the testing times by all our club sponsors, mentors and leaders enabled the successful chartering of Club ToastEd. Apart from the core team, we owe heartfelt gratitude to all those toastmasters and our KEO speakers who supported us selflessly in our 6 demo meetings.

Today here I stand a proud charter president of one of the most amazing Toastmasters clubs.

As soon as Club ToastEd launched we all had this opportunity to jump into the Area Contest which was round the corner. Yes, some of us were completely newbies in Toastmasters.

Every good leader knows that significant accomplishments come from a team working well toward common goals, and our President Deepti Potnis had complete faith in us and somehow she knew we had it in us.

We all got into action, our mentors were always there to support us, listening to our speeches. Loads of persistence and committed practices, helped all the ToastEdians to give an outstanding performance.

With that undying belief of our president and fellow Toastmasters the New Toastmasters managed to stand and give award winning performance all the way from Area Level Contest to District Contest

Have you ever had a spectacular experience that changed your life for the better?

Joining Club ToastEd was that one experience for me. The second experience was project managing the United Colours of Women (UCOW) International Women’s Day event at Club ToastEd, in March 2022.

UCOW is a testament to what a newly formed club can do with perseverance and dedication, and a finely tuned team. Team work is central to UCOW’s success.

UCOW included 5 days of 5 audacious events from February to March 2022 DAY 1 Panel Discussion on Break the Bias - by Flocy Varghese DAY 2 Art Workshop - by Pooja Malhotra DAY 3 Women in Leadership: Walk the Talk - by Swetha Raghuraman DAY 4 Signature Analysis - by Pooja Saran DAY 5 Women of Substance with Extraordinary Stories by Rinku Saha and Nagalakshmi Each day included unique perspectives on women in various roles, including women breaking biases, leadership, art, and personal written stories. UCOW displayed various women from different social spectrums and professions, displaying a myriad of strengths. These also include conversations on challenges for women leaders, stigmas and stereotypes.

This project truly brought out the best of Club ToastEd through optimal teamwork.

We were limited by time to gather speakers, book a universal time to maximize viewership for live events, book rooms for in-person events, and coordinate with streaming video to Facebook and YouTube simultaneously. As well, all videos had to be edited and posted on the club’s YouTube site within a few days after the event.

There were many factors involved to run a successful event.

Compounding the challenge is that Club ToastEd is run fully by volunteers who are juggling busy schedules with their full-time jobs and families. Nonetheless we all overcame any challenges by cohesively working as an effective group.

The motivating force behind the idea, vision and mission of this big project originates from Deepti Potnis, the President of Club ToastEd. She has been a shining star in lighting the road for the club to engage in stellar projects, where agile leaders push their limits to maximize their creativity, as exemplified in the UCOW project.

The unripe fruit Like every other non-media champ, I was equally nervous and confused on how to take up the execution of a panel moderator project that can mark the level 5 of Dynamic Leadership pathway in Toastmasters. I had spent almost 3 months mainly by meditating on the project but with no clarity or confidence on the way to execute the same. That is when the Club ToastEd came up with the International Women’s Day events and Ms. Deepti Potnis surprised me with the question “Flocy, why don’t you take up a panel discussion as part of this?”

The first step here was to find the panelists who are public figures and who can advocate their views strongly in front of a virtual audience. When we think about the topic #Breakthebias, the one key thing that comes to our mind is the gender inequality that defeat the women power.

That is when I thought about having a representation from the opposite gender who can talk their views about the bias.

Dr Ushy Mohandas a many a time TEDx Speaker, a media consultant, a solid advocate of diversity and has been featured in many books has agreed to take up the opportunity to be one of the panelists.

Data from 68 countries indicates that a woman's education is a key factor in determining a child's survival.

Break the bias #2022 When we think about the topic #Breakthebias, the one key thing that comes to our mind is the gender inequality that defeat the women power. That is when I thought about having a representation from the opposite gender who can talk their views about the bias. Mr. Jitendra Rahi, a digitally inclined successful business man with proven industry experience was chosen to content the gender bias among the panellists.

The dais wouldn’t have been this attracting if our panelist Sushant Divgikar had not accepted my invitation. A youth icon and the first Indian Drag Queen to represent India in the queen of the universe. Sushant is also known as Rani Ko-He-Nur wears multiple performing arts hats and is the queen of many firsts.

The last-minute surprises can always pull you out of the cushion and that is what happened with our fourth panelist Ms Toyin. Two days prior to the event when the information came, I could see how my friends change as rescuers and reaching every corner to get an international figure.

Break the bias #2022 I was expecting an “yes” for sure when the name Ms Resiato Saruni, immediate past president of Oryx Communicators club, was being referred by a few. She did not surprise my expectation and immediately accepted the invitation with her polite response understanding the need of the hour.

Toastmasters is a platform that carves its members to be spontaneous to any opportunities that knock your door and a perfect example was Ms Resiato with her sharp point of views & responses during panel discussion.

The wonderful audience on the D-day who joined from all part of the world was the beauty of the session. A lot of point of views were shared and debated on the surprising neuro science of gender inequality, stereotyped job cultures in the society, how the gender inequalities create a disbelief in women etc.

The panel discussion led its audience to visualise a world where difference is valuated and celebrated. A world where men and women do things that doesn’t perpetuate the status quo. A world where no gender inequality exists and both men and women are treated equal.

Spectacular DTac 2022 District Toastmasters Annual Conference 2022

The magnificent District Toastmaster Annual Convention took place in the Torch, Ballroom, Doha, Qatar on 13th and 14th May 2022. Being my first-ever exposure to the grandeur event, I was spellbound to meet all the toastmasters in galore under one roof.

It was a unique experience for all the toastmasters to walk the banner parade across the big convention hall and made the club members feel united. As the event was hosted in person after the pandemic and the toastmasters had an opportunity to meet each other in person, participants in DTAC 2022 were more than excited to meet and greet.

CELEBRATE EVERY TINY VICTORY

The event was graced by the Immediate Past President of Toastmaster International Richard Peck and his wife DTM Bettyann Peck. He highlighted the importance of focusing on our initiatives for self-improvement through the opportunities in toastmaster meetings, pathways and contests. I had an opportunity of having a discussion with DTM Bettyann over an hour during the coffee break and was enthused by her humble and affectionate nature. DTM Mansoor Moideen, District 116 Director for 2021-2022 gave his speech on “His dream” of his own district being the best in the world. The most important lesson I learnt from all the elite leaders is to be a ‘go to person’, willing to help, always charged, visionary with humbleness.

I was moved by the World Champion of Public Speaking 2015, Mohammed Qahtani’s key note speech “Power of words” and his training sessions and I was inspired to improve my speaking skills through the Toastmasters fraternity. There were many other training sessions by the experts

Humorous contest for 2022 were conducted in a very professional and systematic way and all the contestants performed fabulously making their club and division-flags fly high. What impressed me a lot was the support given by the club members and the fellow toastmasters to the contestants!

The audience were continuously cheering and applauding to all the contestants, encouraging them to perform at their best.

There was a splendid “Awards Ceremony” conducted and I was enthralled by the numerous awards given to so many toastmasters, clubs and divisions for their outstanding contribution, service and expertise to Toastmasters society.

It was an amazing gesture by Toastmaster International to encourage all the toastmasters to climb higher, move farther with passion, grit and determination.

I was proud of my very own Club ToastEd and its members who were able to receive numerous awards in DTAC 2022. Club ToastEd received the Vibrant Club Award, Young Achiever Award, Ribbon for the Home Club of the Director and reached 9 goals to be the President’s Distinguished as on June 2022, within 6 months since the club was chartered in December 2021.

Club ToastEd Toastmasters imagined adding value to the life of rural youth. What else other than YLP would give that kind of head start, as they hone communication and leadership skills? We identified Royal Park School in Salem, India. Toastmasters are relatively new to Salem and thus YLP also. With a brief explanation, school management confirmed their participation with 65 students in total from grade 8 and 9. Along with that few of our member’s children showed interest to join.

Club ToastEd in association with Westhills Toastmasters Club were all set to start with 71 students in total, divided into four groups namely Divergent, Avengers, Insurgent and Allegiant, along with four coordinators. Weekly two online sessions were planned starting from 10 May 2022 till 07 June 2022. Every session was supported by fellow toastmasters of Club ToastEd as Assistant Coordinators, Zoom Masters and all other roles that helped to avoid hitches.

Science Behind Body Language Every "Body" speaks more than you hear

The hand steeple is performed by placing the fingertips of both hands together, spreading them, and then arching the hands so that the tips of the fingers look like a church steeple. This is a universal display of confidence and is often used by those in a leadership position.

We see leaders like Trumph, Obama and Oprah using them often.

This Hand Gesture has been practiced by Indian monks since centuries as HAKINI MUDRA.

It is a yoga hand gesture named after goddess Hakini. Her immense power is an emblem of thunderbolt which has seat on the place between eyebrows i.e. third-eye chakra.

Due to its direct relation with third-eye, practicing Hakini Mudra is considered best to uplift the brain power, hence known as mudra of mind & wisdom. This power of goddess Hakini is called Hakini Shakti.

As hakini Mudra involves the attachment of the five fingers of both hands. The shortest speech is the one with which George Washington opened his presidency. He wasn’t a fan of public speaking and he managed to deliver it in 135 words - that’s about one minute.

The longest speech ever was delivered in the British House of Commons in 1828 - it lasted for 6 hours straight.

Words of Encouragement ToastEd chartered in December 9, is already Presidents Distinguished.

It’s a dynamic club with diverse members who come together as a tight knit team making this club successful.

I had the opportunity to visit this club and speak. It was an honour to speak to a group of highly motivated Toastmasters. The club formed during the pandemic and currently had 28 members. Kudos to the vision and creativity Brahm Memone DTM

I would thoroughly recommend anyone looking for a focus on Education to join ToastEd.

I had a thoroughly enjoyable visit to Club ToastEd and was honoured to be asked to deliver a session as part of their Youth Leadership Programme.

It was fabulous to see that not only were the students all keen and willing to learn but that the session leaders also showed such passion and commitment toward ensuring students got as much as they possibly could from this programme.

Having attended this club earlier in the year to deliver a keynote talk, Club ToastEd is fast-becoming one of my favourite clubs to visit.

Words of Encouragement It was indeed a pleasure and an honour to speak to students of the Royal Park School in Salem, India, around 75 of them, as part of a Youth Leadership Program, organised by Club Toasted, Qatar, and Westhills Toastmasters, Calgary, with toastmasters from around the world chipping in.. a global effort indeed.. that's what Club Toasted is all about.. a bunch of professional speakers and trainers who have come together to form an online Toastmasters Club, where experts from all over the world meet and exchange ideas on how to speak and train, through the toastmasters program.

I salute those behind this endeavor. My best wishes to all participants on the YLP, who displayed great promise of becoming good speakers and Ram Mohan Rai DTM

effective communicators, catch them young, as the saying goes, and bring out the best in them, there could not be a better program than the YLP to do that. Kudos to Toastmasters of Club Toasted behind this effort.. great job by Coordinator TM Marcus Udokang, TM Deepti Potnis, DTM Rinku Saha Mallik, TM Vijaylata Valluri and others whose names I may have missed.

I've had the privilege of being invited to Club ToastEd a couple of times as an educator. The experience was fabulous. I experienced the collective efforts of a very committed team, so much dedication love and discipline.

I would love to share here anyday because of the wonderful people that make up Club ToastEd. Wishing you nothing but the very best.

What is better than one visit to the ClubToastEd Youth Leadership Program? Answer - two visits!

I have been the Youth Leadership Encourager in District 91 for some years now and I was delighted to accept the invitation from Toastmaster Marcus to share some golden nuggets on Impromptu Speaking , Voice & Vocabulary with the young people online who are based in India and Qatar.

I can tell that the young people of the ClubToastEd YLP are keen to learn . They arrive with enthusiasm for their meeting and the Toastmasters team make the meeting environment welcoming.

I believe this is your club's very first YLP. I hope that there will be many more because now more than ever our young people need to develop Andrew Bennett DTM

their verbal and critical thinking skills. There are so many challenges facing them and above all they need to grow in confidence. Confidence building is central to the Youth Leadership Program.

Congratulations to all on this YLP as you head towards your final session celebration!

This very first issue of Club ToastEd Newsletter is dedicated to our Area 28 Director and President Deepti Potnis whose vision and never ending support was always the force behind every achievement mentioned in this issue.

Our Division G Director DTM Alar Mel Mangai, who kept encouraging and cheering on every milestone that the club achieved And, every member of Club ToastEd who were always ready to extend their help whenever I got stuck or ran out of ideas.

Special thanks to Marcus Udokong, whose ability to manage the most complicated stuff with such ease always inspires me.

DTM Rinku Saha, Dr Juliet Gladies, Nagalakshmi V Kumar and Flocy Varghese had been so humble to share and edited their articles and write-ups sometime as late as 2 am in the night .

As a first time VP PR and Editor cum Designer, I know in this amazing six month journey of Club ToastEd, there is a lot more that could be added in this issue.
