Club ToastEd grew out of the vision and mission of its chartering President, Deepti Potnis, DTM, and the Ex-com committee. It was a bold and ambitious project to create a 100% online club that catered to a burgeoning need to fill the gap of in-person meetings, which had been put on hold because of Covid.
Despite any trepidations, the Ex-com team accomplished their lofty goal. One year later Club ToastEd is thriving better than ever. 9th December 2022 celebrates Club ToastEd's one year anniversary. Our club's triumphant mission has stayed the same: "We are a global family of agile and passionate learners". Indeed this mission is undoubtedly visible at our weekly meetings.
Our meetings include a KEO (Knowledge, Experience and Opportunities) speaker once a month. This is a guest speaker who presents on an inspiring topic.
2022 has showcased a plethora of talented members which includes a courageous project like ToastEdopedia. This is our online Toastmasters Encyclopedia with video interviews showcasing public speaking tools and techniques explained by former speech champions, very knowledgeable mentors, and long standing Toastmaster members.
Club ToastEd's 29 members also includes 5 members with DTM (Distinguished Toastmasters) designations, the highest achievement for a Toastmaster that exemplifies outstanding contributions and leadership to Toastmasters.
Club members have also achieved 6 DCPs (Distinguished Club Points) indicating a completion of several Pathway levels. A huge accomplishment for a young club. And a testament to the resilience and ambitions of each and every member.
Lest we not forget our memorable joint club event that had the posthumous speaking coach, Michael Davis, present on "3 Pillars of High Impact Storytelling". Indubitably, we would not have been able to advertise these and other great events, without our VPPR, Pooja Saran, a highly skilled graphic designer, who brings nothing but the best to her creation of event and meeting flyers. Thank you every club member for contributing to the success of Club ToastEd. Here is to wishing you all yet another triumphant year. Marcus

Whenever we come across any mismatched couple, the first obvious thought that comes to our mind is, “how can they set each other on a pedestal?”. We keep wondering what is binding them together? Generally we assume the money factor or some other logical or illogical assumption. But many a times this assumption or speculation turns to proveuswrong.
This type of love which doesn’t fit in any stereotype frames provoked my thought process. While revisiting the definitions of love, I came across many clichés, love is this, love is that.. But I discoveredintimethetrueanswerliesunderneaththemismatchinthisdefinition;
“Loveisnotabouthowyoufeelaboutyourlove,butloveishowyoufeelaboutyourself whenyouarewithyourlove”.
Itrulyfeelthatthisisaveryprofoundthoughtwhichisdeeprootedinallsuccessfulrelationships, let it be a match made in heaven or mismatch made on earth; only thing is mismatch attracts attention
This weltanschauung rings true in every walk of life Be it personal or professional or spiritual We see many people working in the same organization for years, though their actual market value is far more People working for an ordinary company than their caliber, some are still sticking to theirrootsintoday’sglitteratiworld.
In such cases geographical location, lack of resources, climate conditions, other'sopinionstonameafewdoesn'tmatter
You may experience the same in Toastmasters also. Initially you mayfeellittlemismatchtoyourpersona Butitmakesyoufeelgood aboutyourselfandyoukeepdivingdeeptodiscoverdifferentgems ofyourpersonalitythatitbecomesaloveforlifetime
What could be the binding factor for these people? Is it because what they feel about themselves when they are in that position or place? At the end of the day if you are feeling uplifted, desired, revered, thatiswhatmattersinanyrelationship

These golden words by Robert Brown are what prompted me to apply for Qatar Talks ‘Hunt for the Champion Speakers’. Being a novice at giving speeches and having only started my Toastmasters’ journey in May this year, I was a bit skeptical about competing with seasoned Toastmasters But then Robert Brown’s words resonated in my mind and I saidtomyself“Icandothis,Yes,ICan’’
TheapplicationprocessforQatarTalksstarted in August 2022 and with a reluctant but hopeful heart, I applied for the Inspirational Category Little did I know that the forthcoming months were about to change my life In the end of September, I had to undergo a knee arthroscopic surgery to reconstructatornligament.Therecoverywas painful and slow, and I started using crutches for support. Two weeks later, I received an email informing me that the pre-qualifier for QatarTalkswascomingupshortly.
Now, I thought to myself, I had two choices –first was to withdraw my application and second was to participate in the contest, crutchesandall!Idecidetoparticipate–itwas an inspirational category after all, and I was determined to set an example. As it’s famously said - when the going gets tough, thetoughgetsgoing!
It was the day of the qualifier and I gave it my all! The audience reaction was amazing and that’s when I knew I was born to speak and inspire people. Only 6 speakers had qualified and I was one of them. I became the first ToastEdian to qualify for the Grand Finale.Itwasaproudmomentforme!Next, it was time for the Finale; my speech was titled ‘Yes, I can!’ and every word that I said came straight from my heart Although I didn’t win the contest, I conquered many hearts that day. Messages came flooding in, tellingmethatIhaddoneabrilliantjoband inspired so many people. I was overwhelmed My courage and self-belief hadtrulymadeanimpact.
In conclusion, I want to share a poem that I wroteasanendingformyfinalespeech
“If you can speak, you can influence, if you caninfluence, youcanchangelives.”
Don't listen to Toastmasters ! See it yourself, looks at the presentation Steve Jobs MacWorld (keynote in 2007 - Full Presentation, 80 mins)
Now if you really want to see the difference between an extraordinary speaker like Steve Jobs and a speaker who needs a bit of improvement look no further.
Steve Jobs was giving the presentation of his life this was during the introduction of the iPhone and he did what he usually does which is to introduce a guest speaker well this particular gentleman was the CEO of a very large company but he did everything the exact opposite way that Steve Jobs did at least when it comes to that nonverbal body language type of delivery so this man literally walked out very very slowly hands in his pockets and looked down pretty much the whole time
Do you think he was nervous or just didn't think he understood effective body language and then he did what Steve Jobs would never do he reached into his pocket and he pulled out an index card and he started reading from the index card "we are very happy to be partners here with Apple today"
Yes we know the reading part just brings the entire presentation to a halt, it feels like the energy being sucked out of the room.
Now lets understand what NOT to Do when you want people to hear you :
Never hide your hands.
Don't Recite
Don't forget to bring your SMILE.
