Owego Business Donates to Spencer Police Fund

Open: Tuesday-Sunday 7am to 3pm CLOSED MONDAY (607) 625-2212 A donation from Upstate Shredding – Weitsman Recycling is giving the Village of Spencer Police Department a major financial boost. Last month, Adam Weitsman of Upstate Shredding presented Chief Michael Monteiro with a check for $10,000 to be used to help the department purchase needed items that they haven’t yet been able to afford. The donation is expected to cover the cost of two tasers, two body cams, a mobile radio, a heat alarm for the K-9 officer, an alco-sensor and a radar unit. Any remaining funding will be used to further update the equipment used by the department. “Being able to purchase these items will dramatically improve the safety of

our officers as well as their ability to communicate and serve the public effectively, we are extremely grateful to Upstate Shredding and the Weitsman family for their generosity and commitment to the community,” said Chief Monteiro. The Village of Spencer Police Department provides law enforcement services to residents, visitors, and businesses in the village. Three sworn police officers, including one canine unit, currently make up the force. Upstate Shredding – Weitsman Recycling is the East Coast’s largest privately held scrap metal processor, operates 16 locations throughout New York and Pennsylvania. www.upstateshredding.com.
