Matamata College 1918 Matamata College has undergone tremendous changes over the past 100 years but remains a school serving the needs of its community. Our current students will be surprised to hear that in its first year the school was not on our present site. In 1918 secondary education officially began in Matamata with the Education Department's approval for the establishment of a District High School Department attached to the Primary School. With our Centenary Weekend celebration just days away, my thanks go to the amazing Centenary committee. They have been working hard to produce what is destined to be a memorable event full of fun, memories and celebrations of long term friendships. This is a major undertaking and there will be some disruption on the school site as security fencing is erected. Two large marquees will go up on the George Simpkin Field and the school’s sports fields will be turned into a giant carpark. In addition to this, caterers will establish facilities in the Bradley Gym and containers with supplies for the weekend, will be delivered to the site. The logistics around this are huge but we are open for business and classes will continue as usual. My thanks in advance to the Health and Physical Education staff who are the Learning Area most affected. They will have limited access to their facilities from Wednesday 21 through to Wednesday 28 March and are adapting their programme accordingly.
Congratulations to Our Swimming and Athletic Champions The School’s major sports events produced some fantastic performances in the pool, on the track and on the field. See page 3 of this Newsletter to view the list of winners and top performers. There is a huge
