CONTACT—NOVEMBER EDITION NCEA External Exams for Matamata College students begins on Thursday 9 November and will finish on Thursday 30 November. During this time all Year 11, 12 and 13 students have Study Leave and only need to come in to school for their exams. Some students may arrange tutorials with their teachers and need to be in school uniform for those. All students entered for external exams have been issued with an examination slip (personalised for the exams they are entered for) and an information pamphlet which needs to be read carefully. Morning exams run from 9.30am-12.30pm and afternoon exams from 2.00pm-5.00pm. For the Digital English exams at Levels 1 and 2 students, need to be at school 30 minutes before the start time and for other exams at least 15 minutes before start time. If, because of illness or some other reason your child cannot make it to the exam, it is important that you contact Mrs Norris in the school office to explain the situation.

Year 9 and 10 Camp—A reminder that camp fees were due on Friday 3rd November 2017.

No doubt you have seen our school’s new digital signage. This fantastic asset came about thanks to the efforts of our hardworking Centenary Committee who approached the Lion Foundation about the possibility of supporting the Centenary celebrations. Unfortunately, their request for support did not meet The Lion Foundation criteria. However, The Lion Foundation were keen to support the school and asked if there was any other school related project that met with their guidelines that they could consider. Some great work by our School Executive Officer Jennifer McCormack enabled an application to be lodged within a short time-frame. As you can clearly see, both day and night, the application was successful. We are extremely grateful to The Lion Foundation whose support made this project a reality. As someone, who on occasions, has had to change our original signage manually, it is great to be able to update our upcoming events via computer. As you will note in the picture of the sign above, Friday November 3 was our last day with Senior students as they break to prepare for external exams which begins Thursday 9 November.

Faculty Days 2017 On the last six days of the timetable at Matamata College a program is run that we call Faculty Days. All Year 9 and 10 students are expected to be at school in school uniform at the usual times of 8.40am to 3.10pm. During these days the normal timetable is not followed as students are involved in a core subject day. Faculty Days begin on Thursday 30 November. This will mean for example that all Year 9 students will be involved in Science activities for the day on Thursday 30 November and the Year 10 students will be involved in Technology activities on that day. Each subject area has a day with each of the Year Levels through to the last day of school. This change of program is designed to offer engaging and enrichment activities for the Year 9 and 10 students through to the end of the year. End of Year Events: Tuesday 5 December: Senior Return Day with Senior Prize-giving at 7.30pm Friday 8 December: Junior Prize-giving at 11am.
