Letter from the Publisher,

Dear Students, The time has finally arrived when you can officially rip off the tags to your brand new shirts and jeans. Tie the shoe laces to your hottest pair yet to be seen. This is the time of year when the halls of school are now the catwalk for all supermodels to strut. Where students all believe this first impression makes or breaks us. This is the one most anticipated night before you could not sleep you just laid next to your laid out clothes awaiting your alarm clock. This is also the time of year when the big dogs of the eighth grade are the little freshman of high school. This is also the time of year where the juniors of last year plan to make this the most memorable senior year. This is the day of the school year where your lunch spot maybe determined for the rest of the school year. This is the one time of the school year where you can probably be late going to class because all of your excuses that usually would not work during the school year will actually work. This is the day that begins endless possibilities of goals; we are all rooting for the 4.0!! This is Celebrity High's Favorite time of year. Let the anticipation begin.

Sincerely, Coline Witt

fter a summer of sleeping in or doing things on your time, the alarm bell announcing that first day of school can be a rude awakening. Whether you're an anxious new freshman or a confident senior, heading back to school signals a time of transition: new classes, new teachers, new schedules, and a new social scene. Dread it or love it, you have to go to school. Here are some ways to make the transition from summer to school a little easier.

FIRST-DAY MANIA There's no escaping the fact that the first day of school can be crazy. New kids wander around in circles. Lockers won't open. The school nurse needs your medical records. You forgot your gym shorts. Freshmen are running in all directions, looking for their homerooms. How can you combat first-day chaos? If you're headed to a new school, try to arrange a visit before classes begin. Explore any areas that are of particular interest, such as the gymnasium, library, or science labs. Some schools offer maps. Get one and give it a read before school starts - then keep it in

your backpack until you're familiar with your new surroundings. Your first day is also the time to bring in school supplies and paperwork. It can help to pack your backpack the night before school starts so you're not scrambling around at the last minute looking for what you need. In addition to packing basic supplies (such as notebooks, pens, pencils, and a calculator), hunt down any of the school forms that were mailed to your family over the summer: immunization (shot) records, permission slips, and class schedules. Did you try on eight different outfits before deciding what to wear? Lots of people check out who's wearing what on the first day of school. The key is to wear what makes you feel good, whether it's a brand-new outfit or a comfy old sweater. If you plan to wear a new pair of shoes, break them in a few days beforehand or your feet may scream for relief long before last period. Each school has a different opening-day drill. Some start with homeroom or an assembly, but others may jump right

into the first-period class. You'll meet your new teachers, and they'll probably give you an overview of the course syllabus, class rules, what the semester will be like, what supplies you'll need, and expectations of your performance and behavior. Some teachers will jump right into their first lesson, while others may have non-coursework activities planned. It all depends on the class and teacher.

EMOTIONS Here's a simple equation: new place = new emotions. Lots of people feel anxious, scared, or excited about school. Although people who are coming back as seniors may be happy they're in their final year and can't wait to visit with friends, most freshmen or new kids are likely to be tense or worried. It's perfectly normal to feel nervous on the first day of school. Getting back to the school routine and adjusting to new workloads takes some getting used to after a long summer break. If you're having a mental meltdown, think back to some previous "first days." Everything probably settled down pretty quickly once you got into the routine. Meeting new people or getting reac-

quainted with classmates can feel overwhelming, especially if you're the shy or reserved type. Start small: If large groups make you nervous, try saying hello to one or two new people a day the kid at the desk next to yours in homeroom is a good place to start. Or ask new people to sit with you in the cafeteria. If you still feel uncomfortable after a few days, talk to the school guidance counselor, a favorite teacher, or someone else you trust about how you're feeling and what you can do. But give yourself time - most problems adjusting to school are only temporary.

MAKING YOUR WAY THROUGH THE LUNCHROOM

aGet a copy of the menu. If your cafeteria provides a weekly or monthly menu, check it out. Knowing what's on the menu puts you in control: You can pick and choose which days you want to buy lunch and when you want to bring your own. aHead for the salad bar. If your school offers a salad bar, take advantage. If you'd rather pack, consider adding carrot sticks, a piece of fresh fruit, or pretzels to your lunch bag. aThink energy. Some foods are better choices than others for maintaining energy during the day. Choose low-fat proteins, like chicken, beans, or low-fat yogurt and add lots of fruits and veggies to your meal. They'll provide the vitamins and minerals you need and the energy to get through the day. Foods that have a lot of simple carbohydrates, like sugary snacks, donuts, or french fries may give you a quick rush of energy but it's not sustainable - which means you'll be left wanting more soon after you eat. The same is true of drinks filled with caffeine or sugar. You don't have to cut these out entirely - just enjoy them in moderation.

HAVING A BRAIN DRAIN? School seemed simple when you were younger. Everyone told you where to go, what classes to take, and how to finish your homework. Now things are different; there are so many choices and priorities competing for your time. Stretch yourself too thin and you may find yourself feeling stressed out. Here are some things you can do to help regain control: " Plan ahead. Get a wall calendar or personal planner. Mark the dates of midterms, finals, and other tests. Note the due dates of term papers, essays, and other projects as they are assigned. List any other time commitments you have, like basketball practice or play rehearsals. When your calendar starts to fill, learn to say no to additional activities until things calm down. aStay ahead. Try not to fall behind. If you feel yourself falling behind and starting to feel frustrated, let your teachers know. It's better to get help early on than to wait and think you can ace the final if you spend a few nights cramming. Almost everyone struggles with a particular subject or class. If you're having trouble with a particular subject or homework project, ask your teacher for extra help after class. Taking a few minutes to address the problem right away can save time later, and if your teacher knows that you're struggling with something, he or she is likely to be more understanding of the situation. aListen up. Paying attention in class can actually pay off in the long run. Sure, it's often easier said than done, but actively listening and taking notes during lectures can make recalling information easier when it comes time to study and remember things. aTake notes. If you take notes and review them before class begins (or while studying for an exam), you can ask a teacher to go over anything you don't understand. It

can also be helpful to go over notes with a friend after class - as long as you're confident your friend really grasps the material! Learning good note-taking skills in high school also helps put you ahead of the curve in college, when good lecture notes are key to studying and doing well.

SURVIVAL TIPS Here are some more things that can help put you ahead in school: aThe old saying "breakfast is the most important meal of the day" is never more true than when you're going to school. Students are more alert and perform better in class if they eat a good breakfast. aGet enough sleep. Studies show that teens need at least 8½ hours of sleep each night to feel rested. Sleep deprivation can lead students to fall asleep in class (embarrassing if you're caught!) and can also make it hard to concentrate. It can be more productive to get the sleep you need than it is to stay up late cramming: A recent study found that students who got adequate sleep before a math test were nearly three times more likely to figure out the problem than those who stayed up all night. aDo more at school and you'll have less to do at home. Take advantage of those times during the school day when you're not in class: Review notes, go to the library or computer lab, get a head-start on your homework, or research that big term paper. You'll be thankful later while you're at the mall or a concert and your classmates are stuck at home cramming!

What's everyone's favorite period? Lunch, what else? But with foods like tacos, pizza, or cheeseburgers staring you in the face when you're at your most hungry, it can be hard to make healthy choices. Here are some tricks to choosing foods that will keep you focused and active throughout the day - as well as help you grow and develop throughout the school year:

aStop for a snack. You can't concentrate or absorb new knowledge without a well-fed mind and body. So take along a healthy snack, like carrot sticks or trail mix, to stave off hunger between classes (don't munch during class, though, or you may face a reprimand!). Not only will this keep you going, it will also help you avoid overeating when mealtime finally arrives.

aOne of the best ways to make friends and learn your way around is by joining school clubs, sports teams, and activities. Even if you can't kick a 30-yard field goal or sing a solo, getting involved in other ways - going to a school play, helping with a bake sale, or cheering on friends at a swim meet - can help you feel like a part of things. School is a time to make friends and try new things, but it's also a place to learn skills like organization and decision making that will come in handy for the rest of your life.

This boy band is widely believed to be the African-American version of N'Sync, as reported earlier this year. The season began on June 18, 2007. The band was finally chosen on August 26, 2007, which consists of five young males in their early to mid 20's. Have you ever met a particular celebrity and been star struck? A. I met a whole lot of stars but the one star that I was dying, sweating and going on and on over was Charlie Wilson, and now I see him from time to time and he calls me his nephew.

WILLIE What advice would you give to a high school student trying to get in your profession? A.I would tell them to continue to practice, make sure you practice and always know that someone is always trying to get the same spot as you, work hard, stay close to your dreams and be prayerful, continue to do it to the fullest. Do it to the fullest put all you got. Do you have an embarrassing moment? A.I don't think so, the thing that I would have been embarrassed about…they did not show…I fell when I was running down the hall with Mike, I just happened to slip and fall; it was one of those falls that you don't want the world to see. fter applauding the band members that made it into Making The Band 4. You could not help to wonder why Donnie J was not in the group. Donnie j was talented and consistent with a real likeable personality. Why was he not in the band? Why would any one think of leaving him behind? Then the moment that almost brought a tear to everyone's eyes happens. P.Diddy announces that Donnie will be receiving a solo deal with Bad Boy!!! The crowd goes nuts!!!

What is the name of your first single?

Who are your musical influences? I grew up listening to all of the early 90's R&B groups like Boyz II Men, Dru Hill, Jodeci.. As I got older I got into Nsync and Usher... of course Michael Jackson. Have any of you met a particular star and was star struck? Of course when I first met Diddy I was star struck. Not only did he hold my future in his hands... but I had grown up listening to him as well.

It felt like forever between when he picked the group and then he picked me. I was just happy for the guys that made the band and it didn't really hit me at that point that I hadn't made it. Then I started to think about my family and how let down they must've felt. Then I heard him call my name and it was just a huge rush-- like a huge weight was lifted off my body. It was the best feeling I've ever had. 1What can we expect from Donnie? I'm going into the studio with an open mind. I know between my image and being on Making the Band 4 I have a broad audience waiting to see what I'm going to come out with- So i'm going to feed off that and try to come up with something new.. Something that would fit both r&b and pop genres. What is it like when you visit your home towns?

Celebrity High is excited to go solo with Donnie J.

It's definitely crazy. Especially having the opportunity to be on a show like this- I got to learn so much from so many different talented people- it was a blessing.

Donnie? What was it like when you heard P.Diddy say that you were going to get a solo deal?

My home town is going crazy. I definitely have to thank my family, friends, and all my fans from back home and around the country for being behind me the way they have been. Who knows- if I hadn't won the vote on Making the Band 4- I might not have received the deal from Bad Boy.?

The Touch Of Touche

ouché was created in 2006 by three fashion designers by the name of Scott Han, Albert Moyer and Alfred Spencer. These fashion gurus studied the industry from a competitive wholesale market in downtown LA. By being in the center of the fashion world it inspired the three innovative designers to formulate a clothing line called Touché. Touché is a French word used to acknowledge a direct hit in fencing or a witty response in debate.

lifestyle

The notion of implementing real diamonds and precious jewels on to denim is Touché direct hit and witty response on the fashion world. So many clothing companies charge an arm and a leg for fancy names and effortless designs. Touché trend setting designs are geared towards stylish buyers allowing them to obtain their money's worth in purchasing denim encrusted with real diamonds and precious jewels. Touché will launch a special addition of zodiac signs on high quality denim jeans woven with real diamonds in the fall of 2007. For centuries Jewels have been sought after as symbols of social status. So Touché presents a premier line featuring zodiac signs with real diamonds. A percentage of proceeds will be donated to family's victimizes in the methods used in obtaining blood diamonds. The founders of Touché devote their time and effort to catering to consumers as well as giving back to communities across the world.

hat's worrying you about going back to school? We asked our readers (ages 14-17) to tell us what worries them most about going back to school. More than 600 people replied. A third of all those who took our survey said they worry most about schoolwork. No surprise there. Getting ready for a new year of

schoolwork can definitely be challenging because you'll be learning more advanced things. So worrying about whether you'll do well enough in school is pretty common. If this is your biggest worry, at least it's nice to know you're not alone. But not everyone said schoolwork was the thing that worried them the most. Just as many readers said they worry most about social issues like fitting in, having friends, being judged, or

being teased. And since social life is such a big part of school, it's not a shock that so many students say social issues are their biggest worry. Besides schoolwork and social stuff, another category ranked high on the worry list: appearance. One-fourth of the people who responded to our survey said appearance issues worried them most of all. If this is you, you've got plenty of company, too.

WHAT YOU DO ABOUT IT We also asked you to tell us how you plan to cope with the things that worry you most, and whether you have advice for others who feel the same way. Here are some of the things you said:

SCHOOLWORK WORRIES Rachel, 15, told us, "I'm kinda hard on myself, like I feel really bad if I don't have a 4.0 grade average."

health

Lots of people are hard on themselves, but worrying can just add to the pressure. Here are some of the plans you have for coping with schoolwork: Zach, 18, says, "Better time management. I need to stop talking with the social butterflies and get to work!" Michael, 16, plans to "come home, take a quick break, and then get started on my work straight away. Procrastination only brings frustration!" Finding the Right Balance - and Support Fallon, 16, says, "Finding time for everything is going to be a challenge!" Daniel, 14, agrees, and adds, "I play sports so I have to keep my grades up to play." How does he keep the balance? "Work really hard and lean on my parents for lots of support. If you have parents around that actually take an interest in you, take advantage of that and let them be there for you."

Celebrity High - September 2007

Relying on other people for support and advice is popular when it comes to schoolwork and balancing all the pressures school can bring. Dana, 14, advises, "Use the guidance counselor. That's why they are there." Nisha, 15, says, "I'm just going to pick a few things to commit to so I don't overload myself." Balancing school with life's other demands also includes staying healthy. Lots of you told us that your goal this year is to eat well, get plenty of exercise, and lots of sleep so that you'll be primed to succeed.

Many of you are concerned about drifting apart from friends and breaking away from existing friendships to start new ones. Leanna, 14, says, "I am stressed about the groups and who I am going to sit with because I have different friends in different groups." Tim, 14, worries about "making new friends without ex-friends spreading rumors." Brittany, 15, who worries about dealing with "rude old friends" offers this advice: "Be nice to everyone, you never know who you may need help from in the future." Using kindness to stop meanness in its tracks is one good way to deal. Jessica, 16, has another strategy for coping with rude people: "I just ignore them. It drives them crazy when you don't act or seem like you care about anything they have to say."

Jessie, 15, says, "I'm going to try to make new friends and talk more. Don't worry about being awkward because others are too. Lots of people are good at being cool, but they are insecure too."

Amanda, 14, says her way of dealing with rumors and gossip is "to hold my head up high, smile, and try to create a new reputation for myself. Change the negatives into positives!"

Finding a safe, welcoming group is a great foundation for dealing with

LOOKING GOOD How we feel about the way we look

is closely tied to social issues, feeling comfortable, and being accepted. Says Codi, 14, "I am not usually a shy person, but starting high school in a new school is scary. I don't know anyone other than those on my soccer team. I am afraid that once they see me out of my soccer clothes and in my skater cut-up clothes they won't want to talk to me." "At my old school, I was the most popular girl," says Emily, 14. Now, she says, she's worried because, "I'm starting to get acne and developing." Gaining weight and dealing with body changes were big issues for many of you. It's natural to worry about appearance, but lots of you said that you're going to try to keep things in perspective. Mickie, 14, told us she has no worries about starting school, but she does have this advice for looking good on the first day: "Wear clothes that fit your style. Don't wear something that makes you look like a poser." And Lia, 14, reminds us, "If you're worried about your clothes and how you look, just remember that it's what's on the inside that matters."

health

Social Pressures and Problems When it comes to the social scene, making new friends is one of the biggest worries people mentioned. Lots of you said that you were worried friends would be in different classes or even at different schools. Some talked about feeling shy and awkward:

the ups and downs of school. "It's important to have your own little or big group that you can hang out with," says Jessie.

HOROSCOPE ARIES You need to stop worrying about what other people are thinking (if that's an issue), and just get started on the next big thing. You might have to enlist the aid of a few extra friends and allies. TAURUS Does it feel like the rest of the world is in a huge rush to go nowhere? The odds are good that you're feeling pressure that doesn't seem especially focused. Ignore it and do things your way. GEMINI Your ambitions are out in the open right now, either romantically or professionally (or maybe both). It's a great time to move ahead and take care of all the little things that have to happen before you get there. CANCER Be a little extra wary at work or school, because people are sure to tease or otherwise try to rile you up -- and that won't be too difficult! If you can count to 10 before responding, you'll do fine.

Scorpio Whether you're on the job or speaking with your family, you need to keep your tone light and friendly. Conflict could turn ugly fast given today's energy, and there won't be much anyone can do once it starts. Sagittarius Now is the perfect time to spruce up your love life. Even if you've been partnered up for years now, your good energy is just right for rekindling that spark you both remember. If you're single, you won't be for long! Capricorn No matter how dire the situation may seem, you just need to keep pushing. Fortunately, that's something you're quite good at -- perseverance might as well be your middle name! Someone close may need encouragement, too. Aquarius Amaze your friends with your latest big idea -- they never get sick of hearing about them. Something you came up with recently is just about ready for prime time, so move on it before much time passes. Pisces Have you ever had one of those days in which nothing made much sense? You're totally bewildered by someone or something that seems like a big deal -- but it will turn out to be nothing special in the long run.
