There are several prominent people in Zimbabwe who also changed their names. This practice is very legal and very common. I would not want to pick names as these are in the public domain.

There are various reasons why people opt to change their names, and below are some of them. Please 'note that reasons vary from person to person; - Marriage or civil partnership(e.g.Bhirijeti Sponono marries Abhero Mudazvinhu and assumes his surname. There are also men assume their spouses' surname. It's perfectly legal.)

- Adoption, or marriage of a custodial parent

ne of the constant inquiries that I get from people is, "How do I change my name". There are number of people who are stuck with names that they no longer want, and do not know what to do with these names.

The good news is that you can actually change your first name(s) and surname if you so wish. There is a legal procedure for this. Well, in this instalment I am going to demystify the whole subject of change of name, and show you what you need do to change your name legally.

o you want to change your name?

If your answer is yes, the good news is that you can change your name anytime. The common law allows you to change your first name(s) or surname to whatever you wish as long as it's not meant to deceive or defraud, and you are over the age of 16. In Zimbabwe, if you are not yet an adult, you will need the assistance of an adult to undertake this process on your behalf.

WHY DO PEOPLE CHANGE NAMES? Before demonising people for changing their names, you need to understand that this is their individual right in terms of the law. It is also yours, so if you do not exercise it, do not demonise or attack the people who are exercising it. In fact, globally some prominent people changed their names. Many would know Martin Luther King Junior. He was born, Michael Luther King Jr, until his father decided to adopt the name Martin Luther King Jr. Let me give a few more international examples here; - Miley Cyrus was born Destiny Hope Cyrus, but officially changed her name in January 2008.

- Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson aka Katy Perry - Eric Marlon Bishop aka Jamie Foxx - Carlos Irwin Estevez aka Charlie Sheen - Onika Tanya Maraj aka Nicki Minaj - Peter Gene Bayot Hernandez aka Bruno Mars - Reginald Kenneth Dwight aka Elton John - Mark Vincent aka Vin Diesel - Robyn Rihanna Fenty aka Rihanna - Caryn Elaine Johnson aka Whoopi Goldberg

- Divorce or estrangement of parents - Immigration / adaptation of the name to a different language or script (e.g. if you are foreigner and you become a Zimbabwean national, you are not barred from changing your name) - To avoid a stalker or harassment - Religious conversion and/or deconversion, ordination or return to lay status - To choose a surname associated with a hobby, interest, or accomplishment (e.g., old name Abhero Mutanhi, new name Abhero Mhukadzesango) - To receive an inheritance conditional on adopting the name of the deceased (this reason was once quite common in landowning families in other parts of the world) - To replace a name which might be considered undesirable with a more desirable one.

This has led to her founding a media company “Nala Media holdings” which specialises in branding and over the years the company has worked with different contrac on companies. She is also a founder of the Wheel Magazine which has chronicle stories that cover African and Zimbabwean successful youth and socialites who among many include Tendai (The beast), Kudzai Violet Gwara (KVG), Ruvheneko, Misred and Pokelo. Ura le was engaged in an online interview with our team at TZS and this is a shot of what she said!!!

TZS: Who is Ura le Nare?

Ura le: My name is Ura le Nare a 23-year-old born and breed in the city of Bulawayo KoNtuthu Ziyathunqa! I am a third-year student at the Na onal University of Science and Technology, Bulawayo Zimbabwe. I was born in a family 4 girls. I’d like to describe myself as young, crea ve and energe c . I’m drive by the passion in Arts. I am the founder of 3 brands. My branding and adver sing company Nala Media Holdings, CoFounder the Wheel Magazine which is an award - winning African youth entrepreneurship business magazine and I also run an award-winning fashion business blog called Diverse Fashionista where I promote and adver se clothing and beauty brands in Zimbabwe. I am a part me sports commentator; I am also a brand ambassador for mul ple brands. I am a media personality at heart. I believe I just got fired up and I love what I do!

TZS: You are very young what has mo vated you to do the work you are doing right now is there something that has inspired you or driven you to do the work you are doing?

Ura le: I’m driven by PASSION! Something that I believe we should all have. We live in a society where people pursue a career because of its status,or influence from parents.

As young people we need to love what we do. A career is something one may pursue for life therefore you need to love what you do. Give it your best shot because it’s your speciality. Secondly, I work so hard because my family mo vates me so much. My mum my sisters and my dad. They work hard I look up to them and they support me. My family is my biggest support system.

TZS: Why did you choose to be in the media space / industry?

Ura le: Ever since I was I high school I was passionate about Arts subjects and I excelled so much. I was in a lot of clubs and a very great speaker. I used to represent my school Dominican Convent in Toastmasters, Interact etc. Love for arts all started in high school I kind of had a blue print of what I aspire to be. I knew Media was for me because I was very crea ve. When I applied for university, I just knew it had to be something along the lines of Media, publishing and journalism am proud of how far I have come.

TZS: What are the challenges you have faced and how have you overcome them in the industry?

Ura le: Well one challenge I’ll admit is the environment. The media space in Zimbabwe is s ll growing and needs a lot of growing. We do not have much opportuni es here to explore. But I’ve just taught myself that opportuni es don’t just happen you create them. Which is why I am so driven and determined. I am growing myself into a media power house as much as possible and with my faith in God I believe allis well.

TZS: Can you summarize your achievements in one go Ura le: HAHAHA! I would like to answer this without making it seem like a CV. ATipFor Entreprenueurs “Aligning yourself with a similar type of business can be a powerful way to expand quickly,” writes Karen E. Spae der at Entrepreneur. Alignment has long been a tried and tested marketing technique that can also build powerful relationships with others. When you align yourself with another brand or business, you say to both of your audiences, “What matters to one of us matters to both of us. Thus you can attract each other’s potential clients.

Alignment doesn’t have to take place online. For example, if when you shop at your favorite clothes store, you receive a “percentage of” voucher from a diferent store, those two stores are being aligned. The implication is that if you like one store, you will also like the other. As famed marketing expert and bestselling author Seth Godin writes, “Alignment isn’t something you say. It’s something you do.”

Here are two easy ways to align your brand with another brand: Choose a social cause to openly support: If there is a social cause that you not only wish to support, but would also like your brand to be associated with, consider setting up a donation scheme. For instance, if customers buy your product on a certain day, your business could donate a percentage of all proceeds to the social cause. This not only helps the cause itself, but also associates it with your brand.

If you are fortunate, they will help to spread the word about your supportive gesture, therefore inviting their audience to also become yours. However, even if this doesn’t happen, you have still taken steps to align yourself with them, and this can pay of with your audience. Buy a relevant course, produ ct, or service and network with the creator: An example of how this can spark alignment comes from Karen E. Spaeder’s article at Entrepreneur. Spaeder tells of how fitness entrepreneur Jim Labadie bought a CD course from a well-known entrepreneur in the same industry, named Ryan Lee. When Lee found out that Labadie had taken his course, he saw that Labadie had created some great fitness products, and agreed to promote Labadie’s product to his contact list of personal trainers. Because Lee was better-known in the industry,this alignment with Labadie’s brand resulted in rapid growth for Labadie’s business. Clearly, the investment in the CD course that introduced Labadie to Lee turns out to have been a very worthwhile investment. Says Labadie, “You need to align with other businesses that already have lists of prospective customers. It’s the fastest way to success.”

By aligning your brand with another brand, or a charity or cause, you can bring your own business into the limelight.

But feminist entrepreneurs in Africa should be careful with whom they choose to align, only seeking to associate with businesses that empower and support women.

*7 Disciplines Of Peak Performance* This is the first instalment of 7 disciplines of peak performance.

Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishments.” ( Jim Rohn ). You see you can have all these other great attributes but in the absence of discipline it is virtually impossible for you to achieve your goals. Peak performers have developed self - discipline to a significant degree. This is the attribute that separates people from unsuccessful people. It is Mahatma Gandhi who once said that, “The difference between what we do and what we are capable of doing, will suffice to solve most of the world's problems. ” What in essence he was pointing to was peak performance , that is performing at the highest level and also attaining the highest results in everything that you do. I am starting this week a series of articles on what I call the “7 Disciplines of Peak Performance”.

The priority of discipline “Strive to increase order and discipline in your life. Discipline usually means doing the opposite of what you feel like doing.

The easy roads to discipline are setting deadlines; discovering and doing what you do best and what's important and enjoyable to you; focusing on habits by replacing your bad habits and thought patterns, one-by-one, over time, with good habits and thought patterns.”(Dave Kekich).

The difference between successful and unsuccessful people lies in their level of discipline. The difference between goals and accomplishment is discipline.

Discipline is an ability to force yourself to do what you are supposed to do even though you do not feel like doing it. There is no success without pain. Reading a good book, might not be easy, but discipline tells you, you have to do it, going for a jog might not be easy, but discipline forces you do it for the sake of your health, staying indoors while others are partying every 03

weekend might not be easy, but discipline forces you in so that you can focus on yourself, switching off that television might not be easy, but discipline tells you, you are watching other people's work.

Discipline entails Going against what is convenient now in order to create what is long lasting in the future.

Discipline births habits With discipline comes habits. It has been scientifically proven that you need 21 days to develop a new habit. What this means is that you have to commit yourself for the next 21 days to do something repeatedly and then you have a new habit. Aristotle the Greek Philosopher once said something very profound, “We are what we repeatedly do; excellence then is not an act, but a habit.” The interesting words there are, “repeatedly do”.You are what you repeatedly do. What you repeatedly do can either raise you or bring you down.

You can be disciplined to do the wrong thing or you can be disciplined to do the right thing. Many people have become serial liars by simply lying daily about basic things including where they are, what they are doing and even time on the watch. What are you repeatedly doing? Peak performance is also a habit! Do what is easy, and life will be hard on you, do what is hard, life will be easy on you.

Discipline audit?

For a moment I want you to think, and travel back into your life. If you had been more disciplined where will you be by now? Where would you be now had you been more financially disciplined? The devil is not necessary your problem, indiscipline is. In life you can only go as far as your discipline takes you. The majority of problems the world is facing today are discipline problems. Financial indiscipline has led many people and companies to bankruptcy, time management issues have cost some people their jobs, and infidelity issues have cost people their marriages and relationships. There are so many areas people have failed to be disciplined. Discipline brings order to your life, your business, your family, your church and any organisation that you may be part of. Success is not an accident!

Peak performance is not an accident, it is a choice. You do not wake up to find yourself and your team peak performers. It's a conscious decision that you have to make and manage till you get the result that you want. Success and failure are predictable. Success is not an accident. Failure as well is not an accident. Successful people have however arisen from accidents and made history. What this means is that I can look at a business and I will tell you that it is going to succeed or fail. How do you do that? By simply looking at the choices and actions taken. Success people do not wait for the climate to improve, they create their own climate. Successful people do not wait for “things to improve”, they rather improve themselves. Peak performance is deliberate, and intentional. Success is never for a chosen few, it is for the few that choose. Are you making the choice for success in 2021? I do not know what your goals are for 2021, but I am very convinced that you can be a success story if you make the deliberate choice to be successful. Once it nds the wind of the storm, the eagle uses the raging storm to lift itself above the clouds. This gives the eagle an opportunity to glide and rest its wings. In the meantime, all the other birds hide in the branches and leaves of the tree. *MEANING*; Face your challenges head on knowing that these will make you emerge stronger and better than you were. We can use the storms of life to rise to greater heights. Achievers are not afraid to rise to greater heights.

When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at o en change. Everything in life happens for a reason. Here are a few sugges ons on how to broaden your perspec ve about challenges of life.

SLEEPING W ELL Our body has an amazing capacity to heal itself. It’s just that we don’t give it enough me to do so. A quality sleep can do wonders to our overall health and boost our immunity. It is when we sleep that our body goes in a repair mode and healing of the major organs takes place. A sound sleep not only helps you wake up fresh and energized but also helps you deal with day–to-day issues in a much be er way. It calms your mind and reduces stress. Most importantly, it helps rebuild your immunity. ❖

Avoid watching TV 30 min before sleep

Be good in accep ng changes. Change is the only constant phenomenon in life. Accept Change.

Keep moving ahead. Don’t let your past baggage of guilt, regret, resentment, anger pull you back. Let go and Move on.

Be thankful for all you have. You are always blessed.

Here is a small breathing exercise you can do.

Written by | Maud Chikopa A dream will always remain a dream if you do not work towards it. Growing up as a young woman I always wonder will l be able to achieve any goals in life. l always asks for help to overcome life obstacles little did l know that the most people you trust or love can turn you down without realizing it.

Every moment l woke up alone, I tried to reach for help but no one was reachable because of their busy life. Having only one subject (English), I tried to add more but alas it was to no avail. l cried to the extent of sacrificing my life or to become a prostitute but one voice changed my mindset that l still has something to live for. Life pressures taught me that l must stand up and try something. In August 2016 Opportunity came by to work in a saloon.

I did not know anything about saloon or even the requirements. As a strong woman who had face difficult challenges, l told myself am going to do it.

Faith and prayed work best for me and I start learning how to do it. I'm lucky that my boss became my mentor and taught me how to plait. At first since I know nothing about the job, l struggled very hard. The spirit of quitting tried to overcome but my mentor always encourages me that l Will do it. The world is full individuals who want to light the candles to others, my mentor was patient with me in all my learning.

Hard work is was made me stronger and become the best in my duties. As time goes on, l left the saloon and went on became a housemaid and this was as result of conditions l was facing. God brought light to me and being a maid was not profession I wanted in life. I revert back to the saloon business. In my life journey I have learn that true love is precious and take time to find

I meet a guy who deceive to be lover of my love. He broke my heart to the extent that I thought my life is over and at some point, I thought of committing suicide. When God want to change your life, He use people. Thanks to my brother, mentor, prayer partner who strengthen me in my dark times. Because of him, I am a shining star, I am amazing, I am beautiful, I am bold and I am a strong woman. Sometimes our past can drag us backwards. In life I have learn not to base your future with pass.

I have learned that you have the power to define your life what you want to be. I have learned to focus on the future because the past has already been written and we can only change by going forward. I have learned to hustle, to use my two hands. Marriage is a good thing when we ladies learn to be self- financial independent. Dear ladies equip yourself with skills, with knowledge and with business insights. Find a voice in whatever you do a speak louder to fight for your dream. to work hustle and not to use my legs to make money that's not healthy...marriage it's a good thing that every lady wants before you get married equip yourself to become better the best and the greatest...become your own heroine ,to those around you and to the world...never look down upon yourself as a woman dare to dream and make that dream fruitful... whatever you think of go for it ,try it out it will sprout Perseverance pays, right now I am a hairdresser entrepreneur, who can diversify in all areas of business. Where I work, I have managed to become a leader, I now supervise a small group of individuals.

I always inspire the group I work for them to find purpose in life and work for it to achieve greatness. Now I can define the women I am to Esther a prayer warrior, Ruth a Hard worker and Deborah a fighter. Never in a second to allow your failed past define you. Dear girl child, stand up, speak up, work up, arise and shine for the time is now. I would like to recommend my fellow women to read Proverbs 31:10-31 which defines a virtuous woman. Now am Ever smiling and Reaching the steps of Greatness. Today I challenge everyone women out there to never let anything underestimate you ,never allow anyone to look down upon you ,you are a role model, you are a queen in your own kingdom. If I made a choice and changed my life, why not you? Make success choice today and be exemplary to the next generation.
