Church Warwick Christmas Tree Festival

30th November – 10th December 2017 The Collegiate Church of St Mary in Warwick is the beautiful setting for the annual Christmas Tree Festival, which opens on Warwick Town Victorian evening, Thursday 30 November and continues until Sunday 10th December 2017. Visitors can vote for their favourite Christmas tree and be entered in the prize draw. Admission on Victorian Evening is 50p per adult and children are free. There will be Entertainment to include a variety of music, including the ever popular Hand Bell ringing demonstration, mulled wine and mince pies. Craft stalls and the St Mary’s gift shop will help with those Christmas presents. The evening will be rounded off with a short carol service at 8.45pm.

Local school choirs sing Christmas songs on Friday morning, 1st December in a free concert, when doors open at 10.00am, come along and hear the children sing and visitors can enjoy coffee and cake, from the Pop Up Café. At 12.30pm there will be the opportunity to join a Guided Tour of St Mary’s, including the Beautiful Beauchamp Chapel for £3.00, (including a vote for your favourite tree) numbers are limited for the tour and places must be booked in advance by emailing contact@stmaryswarwick.org.uk or phone the office on 01926 403940.

The Pop Up Café will be serving tea, coffee and homemade cakes on Friday and Saturday of both weekends from 10.00am – 4.00pm. On Saturday 2th December there is a Christmas Charity Concert in aid of Rufus’ Friends’ Fund Sung by the Gentlemen of Her Majesty’s Chapel Royal, Hampton Court Palace, 6.00pm Drinks Reception Concert at 7.00pm, Tickets £15 (includes drinks reception) Available from 01926 257965 or Eventbrite.

Santa will be visiting the Christmas Tree Festival at 11.00am on Saturday 9th December – he has heard that it is going to be especially beautiful this year. Why not come along and join him as he looks at the beautiful trees and stops off at the pop-up café for a lovely slice of cake, before continuing his long journey towards Christmas?.

‘Da Capo’ an a cappella chamber choir will be singing at 11.00am and 1.00pm filling the church with their beautiful sound.

St Mary’s invites you to have tea and cake with the Mayor of Warwick, Stephen Cross, at 11.00am on Saturday 9th December, as he pays a visit to the annual Christmas Tree Festival. At 2.00pm the Guild of Bell Ringer’s Carol Service takes place, with refreshments. Free entry to all, donations welcome.

Carols & Canapés Concert on Saturday 9th December at 7.30 pm where Christmas music will be sung by Scholars followed by mulled wine & festive food supplied by ‘Clara’s kitchen’. Tickets £12.50 (£11 concessions) available from St Mary’s gift shop.

All the trees are individually decorated by the community and local businesses and this will be an opportunity to celebrate the spirit of Christmas and be inspired by local people and organisations. After Victorian evening during the week and a half long festival, vote for your favourite tree for just £1 and includes entry into the prize draw for some super prizes.

“The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.” ~ Gandhi My childhood years were dominated by my mother's illness in the 1970's as she struggled to get a diagnosis whilst suffering with the pain of Raynauds and the progressive nature of Scleroderma, until her kidneys were affected and she spent the 1980's on dialysis (she was one of the first people in the UK to use a continuous dialysis system at home which impacted tremendously on our family's life). My mother battled on until she reached the age of 55 before she lost the fight.

In 2011 I took on the hardest challenge of my life to raise funds for the Scleroderma & Raynauds UK charity.

I climbed Cotopaxi in Ecuador at a height of 19347 feet (5897 metres) and it nearly finished me off. I swore I'd never climb that high again even though I did raise over £4000.

Move forward 6 years and I get the crazy idea to go altitude trekking again

but I keep telling everyone it’s not as high so I'll be fine (trying to reassure myself!). In November this year, I'm off to fulfill a dream of mine to see Everest with my own eyes, so am trekking to Everest Base Camp. The highest point will be Kala Patthar at 18,519 feet (5,644.5 metres - the 0.5m is obviously important!) where I'll (hopefully) watch the sunrise over Everest.

Warwick’s King James I Festival 3rd - 5th November Party like it’s 1617 in Warwick this November as the town commemorates the 400th anniversary of King James I’s visit.From the 3rd – 5th of November 2017, visitors to Warwick can revel in a series of activities including historic tours, banquets, fireworks and Guy Fawkes crafts, Sunday services in honour of the founder of the King James bible and his relationship with the town, and an extra special Bonfire Night at Warwick Racecourse on Saturday 4th November.

Festival Programme Lord Leycester Hospital

A lavish extravaganza of music, dancing, food and ale kickstarts the celebrations from 7pm to 12am (midnight) on Friday 3rd November. Recreating the Grand Banquet held in the King’s honour in 1617, the grand feast has limited tickets available, on sale from 4th September. Cost £75 per person.

The festivities continue from 12.00pm to 5.00pm on ] Saturday 4th November with live music, food and merriment for all ages, at the Courtyard and Great Hall. £5 entry.

Warwick Racecourse

King James I loved a party and following the failed attempt on his life under the Gunpowder Plot in 1605, he declared a special bonfire to celebrate his survival.

This year’s Warwick Town Bonfire continues this tradition and promises to be bigger and better as a key event of the 400 year celebrations. On Saturday 4th November, gates will open at 5pm with hot refreshments and children’s fun area. The bonfire and fireworks display will start at 6.30pm. Tickets priced at £6 and £1 for adults and children in advance. 3 and under are free.
