Slow cooked beef Bourguignon

A delicious, hearty and warming dish that is perfect for cold winter days. The ideal feast for the whole family for Sunday lunch, this mouth-watering casserole takes around 2hrs and 30 mins to cook.

It is well worth the wait, made with fragrant garlic, shallots, thyme and parsley. Served with a light and creamy swede mash, this dish is healthy as well as filling.

Method • Preheat your oven to 180C, gas 4. Place a large frying pan sprayed with low calorie cooking spray over a medium heat. Add the bacon and shallots and fry for 3-4 minutes until starting to brown. Add the beef.

Stir-fry for 5-7 minutes over a high heat until browned.

Serves 4 Cooking time - 2 hours 30 minutes Skill level - easy peasy lemon squeezy

• Stir in the garlic, red wine, stock, tomato purée and herbs. Season, bring to the boil and then transfer to a casserole dish. Cover and cook in the oven for 2 hours.

• Meanwhile, boil the swede for 12-15 minutes until tender. Drain.

will feature a Christmas Market between 11.00am and 6.00pm in the town centre. There will also be a Lantern Parade, stalls, games, rides, live music and much more.

Santa and his helper will be switching on the lights at approx 5pm after the Lantern Parade – everyone welcome – bring your own lanterns (NB: no flammable lanterns please).

The Rotary Tree of Light (next to Southam Carpets) will also be switched on by the Town Mayor at approx 5.15pm, (see below).

All the money raised in Southam will be donated to Acorns Children’s Hospice Charity which serves Southam and the Warwickshire community. The “Rotary Tree of Light” will stand on Coventry Street (by Southam Carpets) and will be switched on by the Mayor Cllr Lee Ellard on Sunday, 26th November 2017 at 5.15 pm.
