TODDLER GROUPS AND ACTIVITIES

for the 5’s and under Toddler Groups are a great way for little ones and mums, dads, grandparents and carers to get out of the house, have a change of scenery and meet new parents and children from your local area.

A great all round activity that helps you also meet parents in the local area. Often run by volunteers and held in church halls and other community buildings. They are also very good value and are sometimes free. Refreshments are usually provided. They usually provide a good assortment of toys and have other activities such as painting or craft available. Expect to finish with some songs!

Yoga, like any physical exercise, can ease constipation - and theoretically lower the risk of colon cancer because moving the body facilitates more rapid transport of food and waste products through the bowels. And, although it has not been studied scientifically, yogis suspect that twisting poses may be beneficial in getting waste to move through the system.

Yoga quells the fluctuations of the mind, according to Patanjali’s Yoga Sutra. In other words, it slows down the mental loops of frustration, regret, anger, fear, and desire that can cause stress. And since stress is implicated in so many health problems - from migraines and insomnia to lupus, MS, eczema, high blood pressure, and heart attacks - if you learn to ‘quiet your mind’, you’ll be likely to live longer and healthier. Yoga can be the catalyst to so many health and wellbeing improvements, and doctors even conclude that the benefits are there for us all to benefit regardless of gender, age, fitness and size.

‘cheap as chips’ chocolate pots

Ingredients

Top each pot with a dollop of fromage frais and decorate with chocolate sprinkles and a white chocolate star.

Method

- Melt the chocolate in a heatproof bowl over a pan of simmering water then leave to cool for 10 minutes.

- Beat the egg yolks, sweetener and rum into the cooled chocolate.

- Whisk the egg whites until just stiff but not too dry then fold into the chocolate.

No problem! years ago I Many took on a dog that

had lots of behavioural problems and after taking advice from various sources I made lots of changes. Over the next few months the mprovement was so dramatic that I wanted to learn more about how dogs learn. I helped out at a local dog training club and after some time found myself dealing with “problem dogs” on a regular basis. This became my specialist area and as a result I was offered a 3 year stint on BBC’s Dog Borstal.

I now help owners with dogs displaying aggression towards people and other dogs, separation anxiety, destructiveness, fear, over excitement and many other problems.

The relationship between a happy dog and their owner is a wonderful thing.

I visit lots of owners who have had ‘help’ previously from other behaviourists or trainers but are still having problems. Failure in the past does not mean that the problem cannot

be resolved.

During a Behaviour Consultation I will explore the reasons behind the unwanted behaviour (the cause). Once I have done this we can change things that have an affect on the way that the dog behaves (the symptom).

For those owners who are about to get a puppy I also do ‘Puppy Home Visits’ which allow the owner to get everything right from the start to avoid problems in the future. Puppies are

learning machines, however they learn the bad stuff as quickly as they learn the good.

Biennial exhibition open to all professional artists in the West Midlands.

Leamington Spa Art Gallery & Museum’s biennial OPEN exhibition will be returning this year and will run from 14 April until 25 June 2017. The OPEN 2017 exhibition will showcase an eclectic collection of artwork in a range of media. This exhibition is open to artists living or working in the West Midlands region. The works for display will be selected by an independent panel of arts professionals.

The biennial exhibition is open to all professional artists based in the West Midlands, with the stipulation that work must have been completed after 1 January 2016. Work entered for the last OPEN exhibition in 2015 included paintings, prints and sculpture. There will be one overall prize winner who will receive the OPEN 2017 award of £1,000. Visitors to the exhibition will also be given the chance to vote for their favourite artwork. The work of art which receives the highest public votes will be presented with the People’s Choice Award of £500.

In the last biennial exhibition, artist Neil Moore won the OPEN 2015 prize with The Ineluctable Modality of the Visible, a portrait in oil paint. Katharine Barker received the most votes for the OPEN 2015 People’s Choice Award with her work Continuum, a mixed media work made from linen and oils. Katharine’s work was inspired by her background as a textile conservator.

Senior curator Dr Chloe Johnson explains, ‘OPEN exhibitions have been held at Leamington Spa Art Gallery & Museum since the 1930s and continue to be extremely popular. This is the perfect chance for local artists to showcase their work in an exhibition, possibly for the first time!’

Eligibility To qualify for entry to the OPEN 2017, you must be an artist or maker over 18 years of age, living, working or studying in the West Midlands region which comprises: Herefordshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire, Warwickshire, Worcestershire and the Metropolitan Districts of Birmingham, Coventry, Dudley, Sandwell, Solihull, Walsall and Wolverhampton. Works must have been completed after 1 January 2016.

How to submit For the OPEN 2017 Leamington Spa Art Gallery & Museum will be introducing an online submission option.

Artists are invited to submit a maximum of two artworks via the online submission portal. An admission fee of £8 per artwork will be charged for the submitted work(s). Alternatively artists can bring in their work to the Art Gallery & Museum on Thursday 6 April. The judges will then make the selection for works to be included in the show.

The OPEN 2017 Award Ceremony will mark the opening of the exhibition, on Thursday 13 April, 6-7.30pm, with speeches at 6.30pm.
