THE M DAVIES’ EXPERIENCE M Davies Limited is a well-known

local company who most people would associate with solid fuel, bottled gas and of course wood burning stoves. They have developed a reputation over the years for providing a reliable friendly fuel delivery service which started right back in the 70’s! M Davies started life as a coal merchant and their trucks were a common sight in the area laden with sacks of the ‘black stuff’.

Still delivering fuel, these days the ‘black stuff’ comes in plastic bags and alongside these are a whole range of gas cylinders, plus logs, kindling... very much a one-stop fuel shop.

Over the last 10 years or so they have also become known as the place to go if you want a

woodburning stove installed. Their showroom has over 30 stoves on display....the staff there really know their stuff...and they can carry out just about any style of installation, small or large, simple or complex!

What a lot of people don’t realise is that their showroom is also a treasure trove, stuffed full of gorgeous, and often unusual things for the home.

Originally intended to give the displayed stoves an authentic ‘at home’ feel, the range has now grown to the extent that some customers pay them a visit, not to get fuel, or a stove, or a companion set, but to buy a french clock, or an unusual piece of wall art, or a funky wine rack or a pretty collection of coat hooks, or..the list is endless. Many pieces are one-offs

and once gone, cannot be replaced.

All pieces are top quality - most are made in the UK. Some carry a price tag which reflects the high level of craftsmanship, but there are also many many bargains to be had.

he return this Autumn of the ever popular BBC’s Strictly show to our TV

screens has renewed our interest in Ballroom Dancing. If you share that interest, why not come to the Leamington Dance Centre and learn to dance? It’s a fun way to keep fit and meet new people!

The Dance Centre is located on The Parade, opposite the Town Hall in Leamington Spa and is on the second floor above the restaurant and the snooker club in the Burton building. The Dance Centre boasts a large wooden floor with well appointed facilities, a bar, mood lighting and a high quality sound system.

Dance classes are open to the public in the evenings and private tuition can be arranged during the daytime on weekdays and weekends.

All the ballroom and latin dances you have seen on ‘Strictly’, such as the Waltz, Foxtrot, Tango, Quickstep, Mumba, Cha Cha, Samba and Jive are taught by experienced, well qualified staff trained to IDTA standards. For new and novice dancers, Wednesday and Sunday evening classes are run; for the improving and more experienced dancer, Friday and Saturday evenings are provided.

SIPP, SIPP HOORAY FOR PENSION SAVINGS The government has raised the profile of pension saving significantly over the last few years, through its introduction of automatic enrolment into workplace pensions and its ongoing emphasis on how we all need to do more to prepare financially for retirement.

One way for investors to do just that – while staying in control of their pension arrangements– is through a self invested personal pension (SIPP).

A SIPP gives you a wider choice of how you invest your pension pot, as you can design your own investment strategy or work with an appropriate professional, such as an Independent Financial Advisor, to manage your investments. You can start a SIPP from scratch or a popular way to use a SIPP is to bring together other pensions, some of which may be underperforming plans now closed to new business.

As with a personal pension, you receive tax relief on contributions in line with highest rate of income tax you pay while growth in value is exempt from income, capital gains tax (CGT) and inheritance tax.

When you want to start drawing the benefits – the earliest you can do this is 55 – you can take 25 per cent of the fund as a tax-free lump sum, with the balance used to generate a retirement income, for example through an annuity.

SIPPs offer investors greater flexibility in the range of assets they can hold – including unit trusts, investment trusts, gilts, National Savings products or cash.

Commercial property is another option. Owners can place the property in the SIPP, which receives rental income tax-free. Other benefits include a reduction in the corporation tax liability of the tenant while future growth in value will be free of CGT while it stays in the SIPP. There are dozens of SIPP providers – all offering something slightly different – so taking independent financial advice is crucial to making sure you make informed decisions about the way forward.
