‘Annual Bluebell Walk at Whatcote’.

If you enjoy a walk through lovely countryside the parishioners of Whatcote, near Shipston-on-Stour, are holding their Annual Bluebell Walk on Sunday, May 10th. Started in 1990 the walk has become an annual event enjoyed by visitors from far and wide.The walk is between 1½ and 2 miles long through farmland to Hell Brake and Oak Tree Coppice, where bluebells carpet the ground under the trees. With wonderful views across the Vale of the Red Horse from Oak Tree Coppice, and tea & homemade scones when you return to St Peter’s churchyard, it is a very enjoyable way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Dogs welcome if kept on a lead.

Strong shoes or boots are essential.

The walk will start from Church Lane, Whatcote, Shipston-on-Stour, (postcode CV36 5EF), and will be well signposted in the village, as will free car parking.

You can begin your walk any time between 2pm and 5pm.

The cost is £6.00 for adults, accompanied children free, and this includes the tea & scones!

It’s fair to say that most parents understand the importance of emergency first aid training but unfortunately more than half never ‘get round’ to it. This could be for many reasons: Some chose to ignore the idea believing it will never happen (until the life critical time it does). Others think calling an for an ambulance will be enough. But consider this...

You discover your baby/child or other loved one unconscious and not breathing. You’re otherwise alone, with no knowledge of effective CPR. Your heart is suddenly beating faster than it’s ever felt before. What are you meant to do, push on their chest a bit? But how hard, how many times? How many breaths should you put into their mouth? You look at them lying there, motionless and grey. You feel bewildered, afraid. What if you press too hard or not hard enough? You fumble frantically for your mobile phone, and with shaking hands unlock it, dial 999 and explain the circumstances and give your location to the operator. 60 seconds have passed. The emergency call is dispatched to the nearest ambulance crew that happen to be at a stand by point on the outskirts of town.

On receiving the call, the crew run downstairs, out of the building and into the ambulance. The driver starts up, then, with lights, siren and seat belts on, they pull away.

By the point at which they are able to safely enter onto the main road another minute has passed. It then takes 5 minutes for the crew to get through rush hour traffic to your location and park the ambulance in a safe place.

Time slips by as the crew rush to locate you. More than 7 minutes have passed at this point. A paramedic immediately commences CPR on your loved one.

In this circumstance would the casualty live? If they did survive would they be brain damaged from lack of oxygen?

Being that this is a hypothetical emergency it’s impossible to say of course. What is fact however, is that the best survival rates where cardiac arrest has occurred, apply to casualties that received the earliest possible CPR, early defibrillation and early advanced care.

However, we also cater for the more unusual and demanding projects like customising and substantial modification.

One of the more interesting projects in the MM workshops at the moment is a TVR Cerbera. The customer wants to transform the

car into a supercar, loosely based on the Cerbera Speed 12, but with some of his own design tweaks. The first stage was to fully strip the donor car, and the body has since been returned to the customer for the modifications.

Meanwhile, the chassis has been modified to allow fitment of larger wheels. The chassis and the suspension components

have been stripped back to bare metal and re-furbished to modern manufacturer standard.

The rolling chassis will be on display at the Practical Classics Restoration Show at the NEC 27th and 28th March.
