The small town of Thomasville has been long noted for its sophistication, charm, and history. Fall harkens the approach of hunting season and the arrival of some of the country’s most influential families. Wild bobwhite quail provide the sport while towering pines, ancient mossed covered oaks, and native grasses create the backdrop. starts out similarly to

other plantations in Thomasville, Georgia; wealthy Northerners journeyed South to the end of the railway in the late 1800s and fell in love with Thomas County’s mild winters and sporting culture. Millpond is representative of Thomasville’s winter resort era as its historical foundation is like other plantations, but the actual foundation and its unique vision sets it apart as one of the most iconic properties in all of the Red Hills Region.

The Wade family of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the land in the early 1900s.

Jeptha Wade II hired prestigious Cleveland firm Hubbell & Benes to design the house. He charged them with creating a southern home, but with characteristics adapted from Western America, making the architectural style of Millpond a unique departure from the Classic Revival style home, typical of the region during this era.

is considered a California Spanish Revival with stucco

designed to be hidden by creeping fig and ivy, and the terra cotta roof is tiled in a lap-roll pattern. One of the most distinctive features is Millpond’s atrium. It is made of large retractable glass roof panels that open and close with the season, providing protection to an almost magic-like indoor garden below, blooming with bougainvillea, palms, citrus trees and more. The grounds were designed by famous landscape architect Warren Manning, who also designed the Biltmore Estates in Asheville, North Carolina. By 1910, the entire complex was complete and to this day, the property and grounds remain true to the original vision of the Wade Family.

Beyond the formal gardens, the native landscape of Millpond consists of 3267+/- acres and has been beautifully groomed for over a century with an emphasis on productive bobwhite quail habitat. The property boasts a rolling landscape of upland pines, mature hardwood creeks, and an 85 acre lake. This exceptionally diverse terrain plays hosts to a bountiful population of quail, deer, duck, dove, and turkey.
