New Life unveils its new IN&OUT collections at the 2025 Fuorisalone during Milan Design Week - N EW LI FE New Life, an Italian company with a longstanding presence in the hospitality sector, showcased its latest indoor and outdoor collections at the 2025 Fuorisalone during Milan Design Week. The presentation took place in the enchanting setting of the Great Cloister of San Marco’s Church in Brera, a neighbourhood well-known for art, design and fashion.

This magical and historical setting became the perfect backdrop for the debut of the L’Ala Outdoor chair, designed by Marco Zito. In 2024, the collection was honoured with the Sustainability Award at the Archiproducts Design Awards.

The addition of the chair to the collection, which already includes an armchair, lounge chair, barstool, dining table, and coffee table, further enriches it, enhancing its versatility.

The project draws inspiration from nature, transforming organic and floral shapes into design pieces that align with current trends.

Ergonomic and comfortable, each piece is crafted with a commitment to circular economy.

New Life also presented indoor products, including a lounge chair and a new collection of tables and chairs designed to transform hospitality spaces into welcoming, functional environments.

Harlock, the lounge chair designed by the Alan de la Coba team, showcases the company’s expertise.

The backrest, the seat and the footrest are crafted following a single shape. This design choice emphasises continuity and coherence from an aesthetic and practical point of view, creating a functional piece that tells a story of innovation and craftsmanship.

The result is a harmonious design that offers exceptional comfort and a total relaxation experience.

Making their debut as well were the Martina chairs and Martino tables, designed by Alessandro Ghiringhelli.

These pieces stand out for their formal and technical simplicity, achieved through a harmonious blend of shapes and volumes.

The legs are the defining feature of both pieces, allowing them to complement each other seamlessly.

The designer drew inspiration from electricity pylons, iconic elements that shape our landscapes. Much like these towering structures, their legs provide stability and structural integrity while adding a touch of minimalism and elegance to any space.

The strong character of the products displayed, paired with the magic atmosphere of the elegant cloister, created a fascinating connection between modernity and tradition.

Matter, sustainability and design became the main characters of the week, allowing people to live an unforgettable experience.

Room mate hotels, unstoppable in its expansion in europe, opens to the Swiss market - H OTEL M AR M ONT The chain enters the Swiss market with the addition of the Hôtel Marmont in Geneva, next to the prestigious Rue du Rhône, while adding twelve assets in Valencia (Spain), following the purchase of the Spanish chain Staying Valencia.

In 2024, the chain recorded revenues of €128.5 million and normalized EBITDA of €28.3 million, reflecting the success of its management and the recovery of the tourism sector. By 2025, it expects to achieve net revenues of 151.8 million euros.

Room Mate Hotels, the chain chaired by Kike Sarasola, has just announced at the IHIF fair in Berlin the addition of new assets to its European hotel portfolio while consolidating its recovery by closing

2024 with revenues of 128.5 million euros, 23% more than the previous year, and a normalized EBITDA (Earnings Before Interest, Taxes,Depreciation, and Amortization) of 28.3 million euros.

Room Mate Hotels continues with its ambitious expansion plan, strengthening its presence in the European market with the addition of the Hôtel Marmont, in Geneva (Switzerland). Located in one of the most exclusive areas of the city, next to the prestigious Rue du Rhône, surrounded by the most exclusive stores and just a few meters from the emblematic Lake Geneva, it has 104 rooms and offers unparalleled access to the financial district, international institutions and the vibrant cultural life of the city. Since the acquisition of Room Mate Hotels in 2022 by its new shareholders, the chain has significantly strengthened its financial position and renewed its portfolio through an equity investment program in several hotels. With this latest purchase, the company continues its selective international expansion through new strategic acquisitions, new leases and hotel management agreements.

Dominic Seely, Room Mate Hotels’ Director of Development and Acquisitions, said: “With its very high barriers to entry, Geneva is a further milestone

in our journey. The Room Mate brand prides itself on having so many AAA locations and this hotel is no exception. We continue to partner with institutional landlords such as Axa Real Estate, BNP Paribas, Generali, Grosvenor, Investire SGR, Prelios SGR, and others, who value not only our business model, but also the strength of our brand.”

To which Kike Sarasola adds: “This is a great milestone for Room Mate and we are very happy with the

arrival in Switzerland, one of the world’s top tourist destinations and a beautiful country. The property will be completely renovated in 2025 and relaunched under the Room Mate brand in early 2026.”

This new addition is in addition to the recent purchase of the Staying Valencia chain, with twelve assets in the city such as Helen Berger, Oliveira or Cosmo, among others. All are located in the city center, in line with Room Mate Hotels’ positioning in other key destinations such as Venice, with the recent opening of Palazzo Dei Fiori (16 apartments from 1 to 5 rooms), designed by Teresa Sapey; or in the United Kingdom, London, with the boutique hotel Lime Tree, located in the Belgravia area or the new Room Mate Mia, which will open its doors in Rome on April 10.

In addition, during 2024, the company has allocated almost 10 million euros in the renovation and improvement of several hotels, with the aim of offering the best experience for its customers. Among the refurbished projects are Room Mate Aitana (285 rooms) in Amsterdam, Room Mate Luca (55 rooms) and Isabella Room Mate Collection (22 rooms) both in Florence; and Room Mate Leo (67 rooms) in Granada.

The chain faces the future with optimism, confident in its business model and its ability to offer unique experiences to its guests. “Room Mate continues to be a leading chain. We want to expand in strategic cities in Europe, such as Lisbon or Paris, as well as explore new markets, such as Germany, and continue to grow in destinations where we are already strong, through the purchase, rental or management of hotels or hotel chains. All of this with a clear vision: to consolidate our growth in a sustainable way, to continue innovating in the hotel sector and to guarantee unforgettable experiences for our clients in each destination,” concludes Kike Sarasola.

In addition, Room Mate reinforces its position as one of the urban chains best rated by users with 90.5% according to ReviewPro (official source of hotel reputation). The main nationalities staying at Room Mate Hotels are Americans (14.79%), Spaniards (8.72%), Dutch (8.60%) and British (8.25%). These results reflect the success of its management and the dynamism of the tourism sector.

Financial strength and prospects for 2025

Market trends and expansion

Room Mate Hotels ends 2024 with a solid financial position, and predicts a record 2025, estimating to reach 151.8 million euros and the opening of new hotels, including its second hotel in Rome, the new Room Mate Mía.

Room Mate Hotels’ growth is framed by a dynamic and constantly evolving hotel market. In 2024, the company has welcomed more than 1.22 million visitors, with an average stay of 2.5 nights and a total occupancy rate of more than 86%.

Our team has over two decades of experience in furniture design and we called upon their expertise to create an exquisite replica of an antique concierge desk before upgrading it with modern technological enhancements. The goal was to craft a bespoke piece that would live harmoniously within the hotel, capturing its timeless appeal and complementing its historic architecture.

From grand statement furniture in the main halls to subtle, atmospheric pieces in the guestrooms, The Lanesborough’s furniture plays a vital role in shaping the guest experience. This new bespoke concierge desk is no exception.

Upon arrival, guests are now welcomed by a striking mahogany and rosewood concierge desk that sets the tone for their stay at this iconic London address.

The desk features impressive elements, including two PC touchscreen monitor lifts, allowing for a 15 to 30-degree tilt, controllable via remote or manual operation.

Clean, Sanitise, Disinfect: Why Hospitality Needs to Know the Difference - SA N I P ROFESSI ONAL In the fast-paced world of hospitality, cleanliness isn’t just about making things look good. It’s a critical part of protecting guest health, maintaining brand reputation, and meeting regulatory standards. But not all cleaning is created equal. Understanding the difference between cleaning, sanitising, and disinfecting is essential, and overlooking these distinctions can have serious consequences.

Cleaning refers to the physical removal of dirt, dust, crumbs, and germs from surfaces. It doesn’t kill bacteria or viruses but reduces their numbers by washing them away. It’s the first step and should never be skipped—trying to disinfect a dirty surface is like painting over rust.

Sanitising lowers the number of bacteria to safe levels as determined by public health standards.

It’s commonly used on food-contact surfaces like countertops, kitchen utensils, and dining tables.

However, sanitisers may not eliminate all viruses or more resilient pathogens. Always check the label.

Some sanitisers can be used in a two-stage approach: 1) Use the sanitiser to clean the surface.

2) Reapply to the visibly clean surface and leave for the required time. This final step sanitises.

Disinfecting goes further: it destroys bacteria and inactivates viruses and fungi. This process is vital in high-touch areas such as door handles, bathroom surfaces, and hotel remotes, where crosscontamination risks are higher. Disinfectants typically require a specific contact time to be effective, which is another crucial detail staff must understand.

So why does this distinction matter? Because using the wrong product, or using it incorrectly, can create a false sense of security. In hospitality, where the margin for error is small, that misunderstanding could lead to illness outbreaks, negative reviews, or even legal action.

Training teams to know when to clean, sanitise, or disinfect—and equipping them with the right products—isn’t just smart practice. It’s a professional standard that puts guest safety and brand integrity first.

How Contract Furniture Group Helped Redefine a Classic Venue Moving from Business to Pleasure Located near Windsor, The Runnymede on Thames Hotel and Spa is known for its classic style and picturesque riverside views. In late 2023, Warner Leisure Hotels acquired the site, aiming to transform it from a business-focused venue into a countryside retreat. The multi-million-pound refurbishment began in early 2024 and was completed by late September.

A Study in Form and Function The ambitious transformation included updates to 250 rooms, restaurants, and entertainment spaces.

Having previously worked with Warner Leisure Hotels on projects like Heythrop Hall, Contract Furniture Group was initially tasked with refurbishing the bedrooms, including 25 new rooms. However, after delivering an exceptional sample room, the firm expanded its role to include public areas such as Market Kitchen, Brasserie32, and the Live Lounge.

Collaborating with New York-based Virserius Studio, Contract Furniture Group played a key role in bringing the vision to life over 11 months.

Opulence in Abundance The Runnymede’s new aesthetic embraces a glamorous 1970s studio vibe, featuring bold patterns, rich velvets, and gold accents. Contract Furniture Group crafted bespoke loose furniture for the restaurants, bars, and Live Lounge, aligning with the luxurious theme. Key pieces include Alice and Bergen Lounge Chairs in the

Live Lounge and Ambrosia Side Chairs in Brasserie32, each with gold-tipped feet. Marble quartz tabletops, alongside Zeus and Atlas table bases with gold finishes, enhanced the opulence, while casual dining areas incorporated durable laminate tops with Aldeburgh Table Bases.

Style with Sustainability A key service was the Refresh, Rejuvenate, Refurbish offering. Many existing furniture pieces were reupholstered and refinished, extending their lifespan.

Fixed seating in the Market Kitchen was refreshed to match the new design. Additionally, custom joinery, including lobby desks with marble tops and wall cladding for the Holiday Hub, added a refined touch.

A Grand Reopening The Runnymede Hotel’s reopening in September was a resounding success. Now a stylish adult-only retreat, the transformed venue has received glowing feedback.

The collaboration between Warner Leisure Hotels, Virserius Studio, and Contract Furniture Group has created a standout destination, seamlessly blending style, comfort, and functionality.

There are armchairs you sit in — and then there’s Cissy, Ton’s new sculptural lounge piece, designed by French master Patrick Norguet. The design itself is inspired by the brand’s rich history of bentwood craftsmanship — its curves, proportions and honest materials echo more than 160 years of tradition. The name, however, comes from something more poetic: a delicate sketch of the actress Cissy Loftus by Toulouse-Lautrec. From this quiet portrait came a muse — graceful, composed and timeless.

Bob Bob Ricard City: Where Lighting Becomes a Statement - D E R NI ER & H AM LY N Tucked into the sharp architectural lines of London’s Leadenhall Building, Bob Bob Ricard City is more than a restaurant, it’s a statement of intent. A design-forward venue where every detail, from the upholstery to the ceiling fixtures, plays a role in shaping a bold, immersive experience. At the heart of its carefully orchestrated atmosphere is one of its most quietly powerful features: bespoke lighting, developed in collaboration with long-standing British lighting manufacturer Dernier & Hamlyn.

With a heritage stretching back over a century, Dernier & Hamlyn was tasked with delivering more than 400 custom light fixtures to match the vision of the space. The brief was clear: lighting that does more than illuminate, it should elevate. Working alongside interior designers BradyWilliams, the studio produced a suite of chandeliers, treadwell lights, wall sconces, table lamps, and vanity fittings that are as functional as they are sculptural.

Crafted in solid brass and stainless steel and finished by hand to a meticulous polish, the lighting design complements the restaurant’s Art Deco leanings without becoming a pastiche. Instead, it strikes a balance between glamour and restraint, enhancing the geometry and material palette of the interiors while maintaining a sense of timeless elegance.

The project wasn’t without its challenges. According to Bob Bob Ricard’s founder, Leonid Shutov, “This was an enormously challenging project, both in terms of design complexity and the sheer scale.” Having worked with Dernier & Hamlyn on the original Soho site, Shutov knew where to turn when ambition met precision. “We had worked with Dernier & Hamlyn

long before this project and I knew that we could rely on them to deliver in every respect. I cannot imagine working with anyone else to create our 400-plus bespoke lights.”

Every lighting element in Bob Bob Ricard City is designed not just to serve a function, but to carry the narrative of the space forward.

These arches create a rhythmic spatial flow, guiding movement and framing the dining experience within a structure that feels both expansive and intimate.

The incorporation of latticework details, a hallmark of Mughal design, adds tactile richness and a visual layering that enhances both the scale and intimacy of the space.

The material palette is a direct reference to India’s rich architectural heritage, particularly the warm red sandstone that defines many of the country’s iconic monuments. Earthy terracotta tones are used throughout, grounding the space in cultural authenticity, while allowing for sophisticated interplay with brass accents and textured wall finishes. The integration of high-quality materials, such as engineered marble, cane, and leather, creates an atmosphere of refined opulence, softening the austere grandeur often associated with traditional Indian design.

In terms of furniture, Mausam features customdesigned pieces that balance traditional craftsmanship with contemporary ergonomics. The juxtaposition of plush, upholstered banquettes and elegantly designed cane and leather chairs creates a dynamic seating arrangement that allows for both openness and intimacy. The porcelain tile flooring, with its traditional Indian motifs, anchors the space in its cultural context, while contributing to the overall aesthetic cohesion of the interior. Lighting is thoughtfully integrated into the architecture, with

The curved metal rings, rising from the floor to the ceiling, are crafted from precision-engineered materials, their soft metallic finish and terracotta-hued patina evoking the warmth of Indian sandstone. The undulating forms create a dynamic spatial experience, offering a sense of depth and rhythm.

Behind the transparent window, traditional Indian tandoors—clay ovens— take center stage, offering diners a direct view into the culinary process. This not only reinforces the restaurant’s commitment to authenticity, but also creates an engaging dialogue between the preparation of food and the experience of dining. The copper and brass cookware reflect the rich culinary heritage of India, while the visual connection to the kitchen allows both diners and mall visitors to experience the sensory excitement that defines Indian cuisine.

Graphenstone Paints collaborates with English Heritage to launch ‘The Colour Collection’ - G R AP HEN STONE Graphenstone Paints, known for its high-quality and health-conscious ‘purifying paints’, has launched a beautiful new collection of 120 colours called ‘The Colour Collection’, which features 24 exclusive shades developed in a landmark collaboration with English Heritage, the charity that cares for over 400 of England’s most beloved historic sites.

The 24 exclusive colours have been developed by Graphenstone using scanned data from original wallpapers, fabrics, furniture and painted finishes found throughout English Heritage’s portfolio, including Kenwood, Eltham Palace, Marble Hill, Wrest Park, and Chiswick House and Gardens. A proportion of the proceeds from each tin sold will go directly to English Heritage, supporting the charity’s ongoing conservation and restoration efforts and helping to preserve these historic sites for generations to come.

Studio Apostoli addresses not only the need for structures to enhance their hospitality offering but also the desire of guests to be welcomed into immersive and exclusive environments, thus elevating the presence of nature as a central design objective. The balanced distribution of spaces, proportions between architectural elements, carefully selected colours, finishes, fabrics, lighting design, and interior details along with references to ancient philosophies - work together to create ‘total’ spaces in harmony with both the surrounding nature and the individual.

Dolomia is the restaurant at Lefay Resort & SPA Dolomiti, a luxury five-star hotel in Pinzolo, TrentinoAlto Adige, designed entirely by Studio Apostoli for the interior project. It offers a sustainable cuisine concept using seasonal produce and local recipes, in line with the Lefay Vital Gourmet gastronomic philosophy.

This comprehensive programme, shared across all the luxury hospitality group’s properties, prioritises the health benefits of food to nourish both body and soul. It is offered here in the Dolomites in a welcoming, warm environment, with bespoke furnishings and finishes in wood and stone that evoke the mountains and their architecture.

Large windows define the space and offer views of the surrounding vegetation that embraces the Resort. The lounge bar and Sky lounge continue the design philosophy: the first offers cocktails in an enveloping, wood-dominated environment, with windows overlooking the valley, while the latter provides moments of relaxation for aperitifs or after-dinner drinks directly outdoors, heated by a central brazier. The resort’s gastronomic offering is completed by the Grual restaurant, which has been awarded one Michelin star.

Studio Apostoli also oversaw the restyling of the entire Lefay Resort & SPA Lago di Garda, a fivestar hotel on the Lombard shore of Lake Garda in Gargnano. The result is architecture that integrates seamlessly into the landscape with great respect, thanks to the use of natural materials and the distinctive configuration of the building’s envelope, punctuated by large windows and terraces that facilitate constant dialogue between the outdoors and interiors. The two restaurants align with the philosophy of the intervention, blending with the Lefay Vital Gourmet culinary concept, and offer expansive outdoor spaces with panoramic views of the lake. Gramen, led by Michelin-starred chef Matteo Maenza, presents two tasting menus inspired by the local area, set on a large terrace overlooking the water, while the Limonaia, reserved for guests, evokes traditional structures for citrus cultivation with a light design configuration and a play of geometries in wooden columns and balustrades, always with a lake view.

Not far from this prestigious location, with a terrace overlooking the Canottieri del Golfo di Salò marina, is Lerive Rock, a gourmet bistro offering an extensive range of local culinary delights, part of the Bellerive Lifestyle Hotel. The five-star boutique hotel underwent significant indoor restyling and space distribution redesigns by Studio Apostoli. The renovation draws inspiration from the philosophy of natural elements, evoked through soft hues, natural finish pairings, and subtle lighting.

Traditional country hotel enhances guest comfort with stylish new electric fire installation - D RU FI R ES “We screened off the area and worked during service intervals to minimize disruption for the hotel staff and guests. The result is a beautifully restored fireplace with a modern and environmentally friendly flame effect.”

DRU, established in the Netherlands in 1754, is one of Europe’s largest fireplace manufacturers, with a huge portfolio of gas, electric, wood burning and bioethanol fires and stoves.

DRU dealers Firehouse of Kendal recently completed a successful new DRU fireplace installation at the Borrowdale Hotel near Keswick in Cumbria, UK. The Borrowdale Hotel is one of six luxury hotels in the Lake District Hotels group. It is in a tranquil setting surrounded by vast Lake District scenery. Nestling at the foot of Shepherds Crag in the pretty Borrowdale valley at the tip of Derwentwater, the hotel combines a traditional country-house feel with modern comforts, creating an inviting and timeless ambiance.

“The DRU Virtuo Evolve electric fire range is the perfect solution for hotels, restaurants, wellness centres and other hospitality settings.

“The unique 3D projected flame picture visually replicates a real log fire, which can be controlled by an app for smartphones and tablets. It has a low carbon footprint, no harmful emissions and there are multiple flame variations that can be downloaded from the app.”

The Borrowdale Hotel project is the latest of several installations carried out by Firehouse on behalf of Lake District Hotels. Dani Hope, director of the hotel group commented: “Installing several fireplaces of varying shapes and styles was seamless with Firehouse.”

One of the special features of the hotel is its traditional fireplaces, ensuring a comfortable, relaxed atmosphere in the reception and communal areas.

Firehouse director Donovan du Plessis takes up the story: “The hotel had an old gas fire that needed replacing.

It was open for business and couldn’t afford to close or lose reservations for renovation works, so we needed a solution that would fit within the existing chimneybreast with minimal disruption.

“The owners also wanted a low-maintenance fire that would serve as a feature piece, providing ambiance without overheating the area or guests.

Designing for the Tropics: G Hotel Kelawai’s Sustainable Luxury - G H OTEL K ELAWAI G Hotel Kelawai is an urban hotel with a contemporary and sophisticated outlook targeted at corporate executives and well-heeled business people. The hotel is a 24-storey building with 208 guest rooms, a rooftop infinity edge swimming pool, 3 food and beverage outlets including a roof top bar, a 24 hour gym, an executive lounge, state of the art function rooms, and a 2-storey basement car park. Passive environmental design strategies were harnessed to address the given climate, locality, and orientation of the site.

To address the hot and harsh tropical climate all year round, as well as the high operating costs involved in running a high occupancy building, the building envelope is a double layered ‘skin’. The outer skin is a sun shading screen made in durable and easily recyclable aluminium, with hollow sections on the podium and expanded mesh on the tower component.

From bombay to bailey house: a closer look at permit room Oxford - B OM BAY TO BAI LEY HOUSE DISHOOM’S sister brand, Permit Room, opened its third restaurant following a careful refurbishment project by interior architecture and design studio, Macaulay Sinclair.

Located on one of Oxford’s oldest streets in North Bailey House, the design team transformed an empty, concrete shell into a hospitality space bursting with character, intrigue and style.

Permit Room’s interior design draws its name and inspiration from the popular, low-lit drinking spaces of Bombay – historic institutions where only guests with a permit could purchase and consume alcohol during the prohibition era.

In addition, there are influences from today’s buzzing Bombay quarter bars, which are typically no-frills night-time establishments serving stronger drinks at affordable prices. By combining this specific character and charm of Indian culture with the hospitality of a traditional British pub, Macaulay Sinclair has created a warm, welcoming neighbourhood-feel for guests.

Ian Roome, director at Macaulay Sinclair, said: “We’re proud to have collaborated with the Dishoom team for the interior architecture and design of its third Permit Room in the UK – a brand with soul and nostalgia that stirs a sense of good times, whatever the occasion.

Music plays a core part of the Permit Room, referenced across the wall art and through the inclusion of a permanent DJ booth, which will host both local and south Asian DJs on the line up. The informal seating arrangement allows for cosy and intimate dining, larger groups and late-night partying.

“At Macaulay Sinclair, we place huge emphasis on authenticity, conducting in-depth research for every project we embark on. Much of the furniture has been hand selected from a variety of locations, including bazaars and markets in Mumbai. Although this wasn’t a heritage building, we still wanted some of the existing building fabric to form a backdrop to the fit out; exposed ceilings and unplastered walls, for the purpose of adding texture and character. Ultimately,

A garden suspended over the city for the Bulgari Hotel Roma - BU LGAR I H OTEL ROM A A project by Parcnouveau, in which the study of the landscape becomes a tribute to the Eternal City and to the timeless glamour of the jewels of the Maison Bulgari.

From the entrance Portico to the terraces, Roman nature combines design to generate an immersive experience and iconic spaces with flowers inspired by Bulgari jewels. The rooftop sublimates the eclecticism and richness of the greenery, while at the same time enhancing the breathtaking view of Rome.

The ninth gem of the Bvlgari Hotels & Resorts collection is born in the heart of Rome. Located inside one of the three rationalist buildings by Vittorio Ballio Morpurgo built in the late 1930s, which form the architectural backdrop to the square dominated in the center by the majestic presence of the mausoleum of Emperor Augustus, the critical

At the heart of the project is the client’s vision of reintroducing the essence of Roman nature into the external spaces of the building. Like nature, this vision bursts into space, creating iconic points and redefining the architecture.

A Mediterranean garden, characterized by the aromas of pomegranates and olive trees, is contrasted with a garden linked to tropical species, very colorful, which are a clear reference to the jewel effect. The Portico, the first space that welcomes guests, is designed to offer an embracing experience. It offers a unique view of the surrounding square, with vegetation that punctuates the entrances and lounges. The different heights of these elements interact with the colonnade, creating a sense of lush greenery and a welcoming atmosphere. The Terraces are places of conviviality,

Made from bricks Leading this year’s festival is a major new public artwork by British artist Alex Chinneck, set in Charterhouse Square. This special commission marks Chinneck’s return to sculpting with brick and playing with architectural elevations. The piece incorporates repurposed steel salvaged from the demolition of another London building, thanks to the sponsorship of Cleveland Steel. It is developed with the support of Crittall Windows, FabSpeed and Michelmersh Brick Holdings PLC. Meanwhile, Albion Stone and Hutton Stone return to Clerkenwell Green with a new pavilion designed

by Hawkins\Brown and engineered by Webb Yates.

Brick from a Stone: Arch Revival features a striking pair of nearly four-metre-high freestanding vaulted arches. One is constructed from sandstone bricks in various hues from Hutton Stone’s quarries, while the other is crafted from Heritage Portland Stone bricks from Albion Stone’s Dorset mine. Each arch is composed of a single layer of 102mm-thick stone bricks, demonstrating the material’s versatility as a load-bearing architectural product.

Marking its 15th anniversary, Curiousa is set to unveil Carnival, a new addition to its Sculptural Stack series, at Light. Carnival combines porcelain, wood and Curiousa’s signature hand-blown glass to create three striking drop chandeliers, reminiscent of the geometric Harlequin motif from the 16th-century Italian Commedia dell’arte theatre.

J. Adams & Co will present its new Apex and Strata Circular lights at its St John Street showroom – designed by founder Will Earl and handcrafted in the company’s Birmingham factory. Devon-based Hand & Eye Studio also returns, bringing new collaborations with ceramicists Sue Pryke and Justin Page to the British Collection. Meanwhile, Buster + Punch (at Elements) and Bert Frank (Farringdon Road) enhance this year’s lineup with their latest designs.

Clerkenwell Green. Made at the company’s Wiltshire HQ, LUCA combines bold curves and comfortable lines, offering a cohesive range with versatility and a unified aesthetic.

Kirkby Design and COAT Paints have teamed up to create a limited-edition paint collection, set to launch at CDW. The collaboration introduces 12 bespoke shades to COAT’s timeless colour library, thoughtfully crafted to complement Kirkby Design’s latest textile collection, HEIR, which draws inspiration from the elegant, old-world charm of grand British estates.

The British Collection will see Morgan introduce its first collaboration with Liverpool-based SmithMatthias. Entirely foam-free, Bruton is an adaptable modular furniture system designed for evolving workplace environments.

Indoor or outdoor?

As indoor and outdoor living seamlessly merge, CDW highlights adaptable designs that bridge the gap between both environments. Ethimo on Old Street will debut Patio by Studio Zanellato/Bortotto, an outdoor furniture line distinguished by its unique weaving techniques and teak craftsmanship.

Designed and made in the UK British design and craftsmanship continue to set the standard, with a selection of brands highlighting their excellence in design and manufacturing. Joining CDW at Platform, AH HA Project will unveil its first product range, inspired by the natural contours of geological formations. Spanning mirrors, side tables and desk accessories, each piece is crafted from Valchromat – a high-density wood fibre panel made from recycled pine wood and mill waste, coloured throughout with organic dyes and bonded with non-toxic resin. These pieces are machine-carved and hand-finished in the UK by the studio’s founders.

Also new to the festival, family-run business Summit 1977 will launch its LUCA soft seating range at

Returning to Groupwork, Case will launch Campus, an outdoor chair by Matthew Hilton. Featuring a punched seat and backrest, Campus features a galvanised, powder-coated steel frame, ensuring durability against the elements, while its solid weight keeps it grounded even in windy conditions.

Global brands descend on Clerkenwell The 2025 festival maintains its global outlook, with Scandinavian brands leading the international showcase. Danish powerhouse HAY will present its latest collections by Erwan Bouroullec and Doshi Levien at MillerKnoll’s St John’s Square showroom.

This is also the first time MillerKnoll is taking part in its new flagship space, which spans three floors and 1,700 square metres, representing Knoll, Herman Miller and Maharam. Blå Station will bring its recently

At Tarkett Atelier on St John Street, Tarkett’s Let’s Talk programme will foster conversations on sustainability, inclusivity and design. The extensive lineup includes creative workshops led by Yodomo, a research and innovation lab focused on textile reuse (21 May, 11:00 and 14:00), and a speed sketching workshop with Trevor Flynn, Director of Drawing At Work, demonstrating how sketching can be used to express ideas through simple techniques (22 May, 13:00).

Engaging discussions and expert insights The festival’s official talks series, Conversations at Clerkenwell, returns with a stellar lineup of speakers, including Sabine Marcelis, Tom Dixon, PearsonLloyd and Note Design Studio. Hosted in a Kapitza-designed auditorium at The Charterhouse this year, the series features 18 sessions, including three daily talks presented by Dezeen. Other participants include The Barbican, Dulux, the British Institute of Interior Design and New London Architecture. Curated by brand consultant Katie Richardson, the programme offers thought-provoking discussions covering topics from colour and interior trends to heritage renewal, commercial space design and AI in design.

On Bastwick Street, Sixteen3 partners with Crown Paints to transform its showroom into an interactive space exploring neuroscience, accessibility and inclusivity in interior design. Visitors can engage with sensory experiences, from a visual impairment area to a colour perception challenge and sensory moodboarding. On 21 May (13:30), award-winning author and Chartered Clinical Psychologist Dr. Stephanie Fitzgerald will delve into the neuroscience behind our response to spaces, looking at how colour, texture, acoustics and layout impact wellbeing, productivity and perception.

Three factors to consider when choosing a hospitality floor - TED TOD D For over 30 years, Ted Todd has been furnishing the hospitality sector with fine wood floors, providing an enduring foundation for establishments like the Michelin-star-winning duo of Skof and Manna, the elemental dining experience of Sam Eliot’s Pasture, as well as Benihana, Zhima, and more than 100 Nando’s restaurants. It’s not unreasonable to assume Ted Todd know a thing or two about the important factors to consider when selecting a wooden floor for a bar or eatery.

A popular food and beverage venue is an unforgiving environment for a floor. Significant footfall, scraping chair legs, dropped cutlery and every imaginable variety of spillage will be visited upon a new floor from opening day onwards. Thankfully, all of this can be mitigated by considering three factors: wood species, construction type and finish.

Species You’re doubtless aware of the existence of hardwoods and softwoods, but these categories can be misleading, referring to the botanical origin of the species and not necessarily the actual hardness of the wood. For this reason, the Janka Hardness Scale is used to measure a wood’s resistance to indentation, ranging from Very Soft (below 700 lbf or pounds-force), which includes Balsa, to Very Hard (above 2000 lbf) for trees such as Ebony. European Oak, with a rating of around 1,120 lbf, is both ideal for the hospitality sector and readily available.

Construction Although Ted Todd are enthusiastic advocates of the solid wood floor, when it comes to hospitality, an engineered floor is generally recommended, due to its stability and resistance to moisture-related warping.

A caveat, however: opt for a substantial wear layer, which can withstand multiple sandings.

Finish A water-resistant, dirt-repellent finish is essential.

There are several options. A hardened lacquer is one good example; it penetrates the wood’s pores and is then cured with UV light to form a protective coating.

Your finish will likely change the tone of the floor, so this should be considered from an interior design perspective.

By prioritizing these elements, establishments can invest in a flooring solution which withstands the rigors of a demanding environment, ensuring a stylish and enduring foundation for years to come.

HIMACS sets the perfect scene for the artisanal excellence of La Pastisseria Barcelona - L A PASTI SSER I A La Pastisseria Barcelona, run by the artisan couple Josep Maria Rodríguez Guerola, who was World Pastry Champion 2011, and Ana Jarquín, Revelation Pastry Chef in 2019, has begun a new chapter with the complete renovation of their destination venue on Barcelona’s Aragón street. The re-design has now transformed the shop into a bright and luminous space which makes the most of high quality materials such as HIMACS to highlight the eye-catching array of delicious pastries and stimulate a vivid awakening of the senses.

The renovation by Eduard Ribes and his team at DIEDRIC DESIGN is an ode to elegant minimalism.

Inspired by the most exclusive bakeries in Paris, it

integrates elements of prestige, sophistication and modernity, taking the customer experience to the next level.

The visual continuity between the exterior and the interior of the bakery, achieved through the cohesive use of materials and colours such as HIMACS in Snow Concrete, invites the visitor to enter a universe of flavours.

“We wanted to create a space that would make an impact at first glance with its minimalism; and we are thrilled with the successful result. The idea is that once inside people focus their attention on the vibrant colours of the products and feel comfortable with the warmth of the place”, says project manager Eduard Ribes.

Transforming the bakery in just five weeks was a considerable challenge. Moving from a dark space to a glowing and welcoming environment required precision, creativity and teamwork. The new design combines a palette of light, neutral tones with simple, rounded lines that connect with Barcelona’s Mediterranean luminosity and contemporary architectural tradition.

A space designed to enhance its essence: the product itself One of the main goals of the project was to highlight the pastry-making excellence of the artisan owners,

which has been recognised with multiple prestigious awards, positioning La Pastisseria as a benchmark for quality, innovation and creativity.

The authentic and intricate pastries and cakes now become the stars of the show, as if jewels displayed in luxurious showcases. This effect is achieved with a discreet chromatic background that elevates each product to the level of a culinary gem. Classics such as the “Rosa de Sant Jordi”, the “Mojito”, the “Cherry” and other signature delicacies appreciated by discerning palates stand out against a pristine backdrop of hygienic HIMACS. In addition, the thermoforming

capability of the solid surface material made it possible to design a service counter with soft, ergonomic curves, which allows for a harmonious, organic effect and makes the exquisite products of Rodríguez Guerola and Jarquín seem even more inviting.

This impressive renovation, together with refreshed lighting and the visibility of the display cases from the street, makes La Pastisseria irresistibly attractive to passers-by, who can’t help but stop and admire the mouthwatering pastries on show.

The choice of HIMACS Solid Surface for this project was clear when considering the need for a material that can combine aesthetic impact with functional cleanliness, while also being resistant and durable, including for outdoor applications. The flawless finish of HIMACS, with no visible joints, adds to the sense of sleek perfection, offsetting the wares of these masterful artisans to stunning effect.

“For us, it was essential that the new shop reflected the values of our brand: care and respect for signature patisserie. Iconic Manchester Pan Asian restaurant to undergo a huge transformation this spring - AUSTR ALASI A 5 March 2025 – Manchester, UK: This April, Australasia will step into a bold new era, bringing a fresh energy to Spinningfields with an elevated dining experience.
