Terms: The terms of the sale are cash or check. Each animal will be sold to the highest bidder. All settlements are to be made prior to removing any cattle from the grounds. No cattle will be released until setteled for, and paperwork transactions will be completed once full settlement has been taken care of.

Bulls: If you have purchased a bull in the previous three years at our annual sale (2018, 2019, 2020) you will receive $50 off the final purchase price of each bull you purchase at today’s sale for those who pay on or before Saturday, April 3, 2021.

Bulls may be left at Maplewood Acres Farm until April 3, 2021 at no additional cost and at a cost of $3 per day until May 1, 2021.

Females: Females should be removed from the sale premises no later than April 3, 2021, unless prior arrangements with the owner have been made.

Purchase Risk: You may want to consider insurance for your bull(s) &/or heifers, as the buyer assumes all responsibilities and risks from the point of sale.

Health: The Maplewood Acres Farm herd has a level six Johne’s Free Status. Herd monitoring and testing has been done for 15 years to achieve this status. *In addition, all bulls and heifers have had a negative BVD-PI test. Please consider that a bull/heifer purchase from anywhere, or from anyone, who has not had a negative BVD-PI test, is an open invitation to bring this costly disease into your herd. All bulls have been semen tested, MAF bulls have been ultrasounded, and all bulls have had blood work to establish a negative brucellosis status. Each bull comes with a health certificate, a passing breeding soundness exam, and is ready to go to work for you. The majority of the bulls are virgin bulls, so there is no need to test for the Tritrichomonas veneral disease that can be a problem in older bullls that have been used for breeding. (Any bull used for breeding has been Trich tested negative-after being removed from the cows.)

We do encourage that you continue to provide 8-10# of grain to your investment, to maintain his/her gentle disposition and keep him/her growing. The investment you have made in dollars, is worth the investment in your time to maintain him/her and allow him/her to reach their maximum potential. The bred heifers have all been determined pregnant using the IDEXX Visual Pregnancy test or have had an ultrasound for pregnancy diagnosis.

We encourage all questions and desire to know more about your particular operation to help you select the best animals for your goals and environment. Every bull is not right for everyone, but the right bull will move you forward faster and with more potential profit, than just any ole’ bull.

Breeding Guarantee: All animals are guaranteed by the seller as outlined in the Red Angus Association of Am. Code of Ethical Sale Practices. In addition, we provide a first breeding season guarantee on the bulls, which is defined as the 90-day period immediately following turnout. This guarnatee is not an insurance or mortality policy. It is designed to cover any and all deficiencies in our bulls but is not a substitute or replacement for good management. Running multiple bulls together, especially if not familiar with one another, can result in injury and is a managment decision and risk that is outside of our genetic control. For our guarantee to apply, we require that you contact us prior to the animal being disposed of. We will then work with you to determine the best course of action to meet your immediate needs and to correct the situation or salvage the bull. We reserve the right to determine whether the animal is returned or sold for slaughter. If the injury is not life-threatening or permanent and the bull can be returned to service, we will work with you to supply a replacement until the original bull can be returned to service. If a suitable replacement cannot be provided, we will issue you credit to be used in future sales for the full purchase price-less the salvage value of the bull.

In our program we strive to develop balanced genetics, moderate size cattle that are developed with minimal inputs here in fescue country. Red Angus cattle have proven themselves as low-maintenance, highly-maternal, easy-calving cattle with quiet dispositions. During this past February, under the extremely stressful conditions, our herd has continued to thrive. They foraged for grass, ate moderate hay, and maintained their conditioning while adding the needed weight to their calves.

PERFORMANCE PROGRAMS MISSOURI SHOW-ME SELECT REPLACEMENT HEIFER PROGRAM: To participate in the Show-Me-Select Replacement Heifer Program you must be a member of Show-Me-Select Replacement Heifers, INC., and officially enrolled. An annual membership fee of $25.00 will be assessed from each producer. This membership fee is due at either one of two enrollment deadlines; February 1st or September 1st. Producers must enroll by notifying one of the Regional Contacts listed on the Show-Me-Select Replacement website.

There are strict guidelines for sire selection that are required to help minimize calving difficulty. Eligible sires must have a known ID and be registered with their respective breed associations. Red Angus sires must have a CED number of 14.0 or greater to qualify for use within the Show-Me-Select program and Polled Herefords a CED of 5.8 or greater.

CERTIFIED HEREFORD BEEF CHB live animal specifications: Cattle must have a predominately (51%) whiteface and exhibit white markings over the jaw, forehead and muzzle. White markings on any part of the hip, shoulder or side of the body such as spots, stripes or belts are not acceptable. Cattle must be solid red, solid black or roan with a predominately whiteface. RANCHERS GUIDE TO EPD’S (courtesy of the Red Angus Assn. of America(RA)/American Hereford Association(PH)) EPD’s are the most reliable predictors of an animal’s true genetic merit. EPD’s have “fast-tracked” beef cattle improvement and removed much of the guesswork associated with selecting range bulls.

ProS(RA): Profitability and Sustainability is an all-purpose index that predicts average economic differences in all segments in the beef supply chain. This index is a combination of the breeding objectives modeled in the HerdBuilder and Gridmaster selection indexes. In this index, replacement heifers are retained from within the herd and all remaining progeny are fed out to slaughter and sold on a quality-based grid. Traits included in this index include calving ease, growth, HPG, STAY, Mature Weight, Dry Matter Intake and carcass traits. The resulting index is expressed dollars per head born (Index/High Value).

HB(RA): Herdbuilder Index-assists producers in building profitable herds GM (RA): GridMaster Index-used by producers whose primary goal is to maximize profitability of feeders in the feedyard.

CED(RA/PH): Calving ease direct-predicts the probability of calves being born unassisted out of 2-year-old heifers.

BW(RA/PH): Birth Weight-predicts the difference, in pounds, for birth weight, and is also used in the calculation of Red Angus’ Calving Ease Direct (CED) EPD.

WW(RA/PH): Weaning Weight-predicts the difference, in pounds, for weaning weight(adjusted to age of dam and a standard 205 days of age).

YW(RA/PH): Yearling Weight-predicts the expected difference, in pounds, for yearling weight (adjusted to a standard 365 days of age).

M(RA/PH): Milk-predicts the difference in maternal production of an individual animal’s daughters as expressed by the weaning weight of their calves.

SCF(PH): Sustained Cow Fertility-prediction of a cow’s ability to continue to calve from 3yrs through 12yrs of age MARB(RA/PH): Marbling Score-predicts differences for carcass marbling score as expressed in marbling score units.

Higher marbling scores are positively correlated with higher carcass quality grades.

YG(RA): Yield Grade-predicts differences in USDA Yield Grade score RE(RA/PH): Rib Eye Area-predicts differences of carcass Rib Eye Area between the 12th and 13th rib.

ADG(RA): Helps ID animals with favorable combinations of gain and intake.

DMI(RA/PH): Predicts the daily consumption of pounds of feed.

BMI(PH): Baldy Maternal Index-Geared to identify Hereford bulls that will be profitable when used in a rotational cross with mature Angus cows.

BII(PH): Brahman Influence Index-Geared to identify Hereford bulls that will be profitable when used in a rotational cross on Brahman influenced cows.

CHB(PH): Terminal sire index based on Hereford bulls mated to mature Angus cows and progeny targeted for CHB.

FESCUE BULL DEVELOPMENT Our exceptional bull development program allows our bulls that are developed in a large fescue field to go to work the day you take them home without the need for “detox” from fat and lethargy gained in a typical “bull test” type scenario. Feed, water, and hay are triangulated to maximize exercise in a 14 acre pasture. The bulls are thrifty but not fat, hard and trim but not thin. Bulls that are physically fit when they are turned out will breed more cows because they will retain a higher level of libido longer.

Because our bulls are not in a confined feeding area, exercise is maximized which is ideal to get young bull’s hardened and accustomed to walking, with the endurance to last the breeding season. The bulls are active, agile, muscular and adapted to living in the “real world” with “real world” conditions. Our method of fescue pasture bull development provides a proper environment in which to effectively assess genetic differences. All of the bulls are hand fed together and not sorted by size, which makes an intact contemporary group and results in more accurate data.

THE GATSON’S “In the spring of 1993, a few months before I was born, my dad bought bull number B46 from Maplewood Acres Farm. Since then we have purchased seven other bulls from the Boatrights, and hope to add to that total in the future. The focus of our operation is to make low maintenance cows that thrive in grazing environments. Our average cow is about half Red Angus and half Gelbvieh, but we are trending towards smaller cows that are closer to 3/4 Red Angus and 1/4 Gelbvieh. Marketing these females as bred cows or pairs is a big part of what we do. This necessitates a genetic emphasis on disposition, fertility, calving ease, fleshing ability, small-to-moderate frame, and longevity. BVD: Widespread virus of cattle causing respiratory and reproductive disease, poor calf health, lameness, infertility, dummy calves stillbirths and suppressed immune systems. The majority of animals have no clinical symptoms but shed the virus in the herd.

BVD-PI (perisistently infected) animals are born infected with BVD virus and will die infected with the virus, but can appear clinically normal, and become veritable BVD factories. A PI dam will always produce a PI calf thereby propagating the infection in the herd.

The virus can be spred through nasal discharge, saliva, semen, urine, tears, milk, blood, fetal fluids and feces and is picked up usually by mouth in a naive animal that becomes infected. Vaccinating before breeding helps to protect the fetus during the most vulnerable first four months of pregnancy. BVD can be introduced into your herd by purchasing a non-PI cow or heifer that is pregnant with a PI calf. Purchasing animals that have been BVD-PI tested negative is highly recommended to prevent introduction of this costly disease into your herd! $2,550

FALL BRED HEIFERS RED/ RED WHITE FACE REGISTERED & COMMERCIAL HEIFER OPTIONS in pens of 1 to 3 per pen We are very excited to offer top quality Maplewood Acres Farm & Lamine Valley Farms, Fall Bred Heifers: These heifers have been developed and screened with the Show-Me-Select Heifer program guidelines in mind.

The registered 1A Red Angus fall bred heifers were born in the fall of 2019, and bred fall of 2020. The heifers are productive, sound and will make remarkable brood cows. You can’t go wrong with any of these females. MAF heifers were bred natural service to PCC OH FROST 6194F reg#4060804 (a PHARO Cattle Co. new MAF herd sire) from 11/28/20 to 2/6/21. The Lamine Valley Farms heifers were AI’d to WFL Profitmaker E7030 reg#3775477 12/4/20, then pasture exposed to BKF Prestigous 1843 reg#3968764. These heifers will be penned in groups of one to three pending preg checking and you will be bidding on the entire pen of heifers. Winning bid will be two to three times the money for the pens with multiple heifers.

The commercial heifers are all Maplewood Acres fall bred heifers, born fall of 2019 and bred fall of 2020. These heifers will be in of pens of one to two red or red white face females pending preg checking. These heifers were pasture exposed to PCC OH FROST 6194F reg#4060804 (a PHARO Cattle Co. new MAF herd sire) from 11/28/20 to 2/6/21. These heifers are out of exceptional females and will make great additions to any herd. They are hardy, fertile and productive females ready to make you money. You will be bidding on the “pen” of heifers, not an individual heifer in the pen. Winning bid will be two times the money for the pens with multiple heifers in the pen.

All of the heifers have been BVD-PI tested negative, received all of the major vaccinations(MLV) for respiratory and reproductive diseases and were brucellosis vaccinated. This spring they have received a lepto/vibrio booster, poured with Ivermectin and blood tested positive for pregnancy as of March 20, 2021 or ultrasound diagnosed pregnant. The MAF heifers have not been pushed, did not receive creep feed, have had minimal supplement and are out of no-nonsense dams.
