D EAR M E M B E R S,

July 4, 2005, that is a day we all remember well. It was the opening party of The Westmoor Club and six-hundred people were coming to the celebration. There was a great deal of last minute scrambling to get the construction of the Clubhouse, out-buildings and property finished, inspected and operational. Not to mention hiring staff and providing training. When the band we had scheduled eight months in advance called and asked “now, how do we get to Nantasket?” (a town on the Cape). That got our attention. “We are on Nantucket, not the mainland; don’t you have a ferry reservation?” ”Oh no, man, we don’t”, said the manager of the Voltage Brothers from Atlanta. With Fourth of July looming we were in a panic so we sent one of our construction managers to Hyannis to find the band and somehow get them to the Island. Late that afternoon the band arrived in a specially hired whale watching boat and was escorted to the Club. Phew! That was a party to remember. What a ten months that was prior to the opening, between Labor Day and the Fourth of July. Within that time frame, we built 11 different buildings including 53,000 sq. ft. of space, as well as tennis courts, pools, squash and paddle courts, landscaping, etc. It’s incredible how sometimes things can happen. Having never done this before you can imagine that developing a Club was like walking into a dark room and trying to find the light switch. And it was risky. Having Alan with his knowledge of financing, legal structure and management background was, and still is, essential to our Club’s success. So thank you, Alan. So ten years later we have a thriving Club with a wonderful family orientation. Some of the members’ younger children have grown up at Westmoor and have lasting memories. You can design and build a Club but it is the membership and staff that are the keys to success. Through the constructive critiques and our membership survey, the Club has continued to evolve. Today the news is good. The food, beverage and service have steadily improved and more experience was gained at the Beach Plum, main Club dining, casual bar and the yachts. Bruce Sacino who came from Augusta National has built a great team in his kitchen complimenting and cooperating with our food and beverage management. The Club décor in the dining room and casual bar was revitalized based upon the response to membership critiques. Mimi Makin of Kemble Interiors provided expert guidance as we reworked these areas, and each year we are looking for ways to improve the Club property. Wayne Davies, our ten-year racquets professional, and his staff have developed a superior team and squash program through their caring and knowledgeable efforts. His interest and development in croquet has 1
