The End of an Era – Farewell to the Gold & Grain Café
Well, we all knew that it was going to happen eventually, but most of us have probably been like ostriches and hidden our heads in the sand, un l last week’s reality check.
Watching many hospitality businesses in Dunolly come and go over the years, or else change ownership and focus, the Gold & Grain has been a breath of fresh air in town, providing a constant in these ever-changing mes. A great tourism drawcard, Linda, Georgine and their wonderful staff have embraced the Café patrons who have visited from far and wide to sample the many delights on the menu. They have made many friends in the process, many of whom have treated the café as a home-awayfrom-home! The ambience and décor of the Café suited all seasons, with a roaring fire in the winter and a shady dining area on the deck, to cater for relaxed lunches on hot summer days vagaries of the public during those mes, the family rallied and reinvented the business, changing the focus to catering for the a ernoon and evening market, including their very popular takeaway pizzas.

We are sure that everyone understands the reasons for Linda and Georgine’s re rement, as they have both owned hospitality businesses for many years. Although they will be sorely missed, one thing for sure is that they will close the Gold & Grain with an even wider circle of
Thankfully, they will all be staying around Dunolly, so we will not be losing them completely The property at 71 Broadway will remain on the market. It is hoped that in the near future, an entrepreneur with a hospitality background will decide to purchase and move into the comfortable residence and take up the challenge of opening a new restaurant or café, with an already established, well-equipped commercial kitchen and clientele.
