Meals on Wheels, My Aged Care, and services available for the future

I’ve had the opportunity to assist my neighbour this week with an inquiry into Meals on Wheels availability and how to access other services

The Central Goldfields Shire Council-run Meals on Wheels service visits Dunolly on Mondays, and the cost per meal is $10.70.

The meals are delivered cold-chilled but can be popped in the freezer to use later.

To access this service and other services such as home-help, you need to be assessed through the Federal Government’s ‘My Aged Care’ service

This is a government subsidised service to help elderly people remain in their home longer, or to find the right aged care home for their individual needs. There is a phone number you can use: 1800 200 422 or the inquiry can be made online

If you think this service is something you would like to get started, but find it all a bit daun ng, I’m happy to offer my assistance as an advocate. Just give me a call, and I’ll set aside some me for you to get it started.

It’s been wonderful to see so many people out and about enjoying the last week of summer.

Thank you to everyone involved in organising the Dunolly Pool Party on Saturday – from looking at the photos on Facebook it looked like it was a fantas c day for local families to come together to enjoy the pool as well as each other’s company.

On Sunday, we celebrated the official opening of the Skate and Scooter Park in Maryborough

This too was well a ended by our community – with people of all ages coming together to celebrate this valued community facility.

Thanks again to the funding partners who made this possible as well as the young people who came together to advocate for it back in 2018.

On Monday night I was fortunate to a end the Zonta Club of Central Goldfields Interna onal Women’s Day event It was an inspiring night to hear from Maryborough born ABC State Poli cal Reporter for ABC Bridget Rollason as the guest speaker

Aged Care Feedback

Over the past few weeks, we invited our community to share their views on the Commonwealth Home support program (Aged Care Review) that provides in home support and other aged care services in Central Goldfields Shire.

This is in response to the Commonwealth Government introducing significant changes to the funding and delivery of aged care services, including those delivered by Council.

Thank you to the more than 170 people who completed the survey and those who a ended informa on sessions within the community and at the Mill House last week

Your input is important to us so that we can be best prepared for these changes

The feedback will now be put together with a report to go to Council mid-year to be considered.

Skate and Scooter Park opening

The official opening of the Maryborough Skate and Scooter Park was held last Sunday 26 February with skate clinic, demonstra ons and compe ons, hosted by the YMCA and funded through the Victorian Government’s Freeza program

Thank you to the community members who have taken the me to share their concerns about our new Skate and Scooter Park

Whilst hair line cracks can be quite normal in concrete slabs of this size, we are working with the contractor in accordance with the 12-month defect guarantee period to determine if any of the larger cracks need a en on and any further steps we might need to take

We’ll keep the community updated. Rest assured the facility is safe and structurally sound for the community to use now and well into the future.
