I thought I must be seeing things when I went through town on Wednesday. There were at least two cars in the street that looked like escapees from an ac on movie One was very low to the ground and very expensivelooking. The other looked like the owner had built it himself They were a rac ng a lot of a en on, mainly from male passers-by.

Same day in Maryborough l saw a sign that seemed to say that the local police had all gone to a higher place It is on the corner of Nolan and Clarendon Street, it says POLICE and is poin ng up to the sky

There is a par cularly nasty scam that appeared on my Gmail page, saying that they could recover any monies that were in deceased estates and asking permission to do so for me (good luck there) It made me feel quite ill

While I was in Maryborough, I saw a man trundling along Alma St in charge of two push bikes. He was riding one and guiding the other one with his free hand. Pre y good effort.

Heard on the ABC that scien sts studying snakes have proved that they (the snakes) can hear sound through the air, not just ground vibra ons. Their ears are in folds near their eyes. That should brighten your day.

I o en wonder, in idle moments, who decided to use their forks upside down, like the Americans, and then convinced others to follow suit Handy for picking up peas and pasta, but a bit awkward for meats etc

I always approach my veggie garden with op mism following the usual hot Summer and with the approaching milder Autumn, comes rain which sparks enthusiasm.

Last year, my daughter was visi ng a er a couple of years including COVID, so I wanted to make a special effort.

My brother-in-law had generously forked over the area and added animal manure, so all was set for a successful growing season. Plots were marked out and rows placed.

Broad beans are popular at my house so they were planted first Silver beet is another showy edible, then broccolini which was a new venture

All was progressing well!

I had two varie es of seed potato so when my daughter arrived in August, we lovingly enjoyed plan ng those True, there wasn’t any produce to eat but proof of my endeavours were there and fun was had My daughter’s visit came to an end before the humid weather cycle struck from the north My backyard is always at risk of flooding with heavy down pours.

Under, went the veggie patch and I feared for the potatoes Then the mildew struck the broad beans, followed by wind which blew from all quarters

Somehow the beans being about three feet high, managed to stand! The weather pa ern moved on.

Spring arrived, beans were picked (a fair crop), potatoes flowered then dug, presen ng me with excitement and lots of new potatoes to eat and store Sadly, the silver beet went to seedsomething for the hens to eat Broccolini turned into ‘Gigantos’, two foot high leaves but not a sign of flowers or heads, sigh! But as always with gardening, pa ence paid off and lots of meals were picked as it matured Hopefully it won’t put me off this year!
