ALL YOU NEED IS LOVE... AND THE WEDDING RING At The Wedding Ring, we research, create, and curate quality, need-to-know wedding content, year-round, alongside our clients, who just happen to be some of Ontario’s most talented wedding experts.

We then deliver it all in print (THE WEDDING RING MAGAZINE) and online (THEWEDDINGRING.CA) to a geographically targeted bride and groom audience. As a result, our clients book more weddings and our readers find it easier to plan the ultimate local wedding. On the odd chance you ever find Anne, Kristen, Jess, and the team at The Wedding Ring more than a few feet away from their WiFi connections, it’s likely because you’re at one of THE RING'S WEDDING EXPO events which take place seasonally in 10+ cities across Ontario. These are couture wedding shows filled with over the top exhibits, live design palettes, and many (many, many!) engaged couples. If you’re a wedding professional who offers products that every bride or groom should have, raises the bar on service, or rewrites the definition of couture, we’d love to work with you online, in print, and/or in person. The Wedding Ring will help you reach your target brides and grooms, share (and show off) your expertise, grow your business, and make headlines. To find out more about how content marketing, online advertising, or exhibiting at The Ring's Wedding Expo's in your city can change the way you approach wedding marketing contact: team@theweddingring.ca & visit www.theweddingring.ca

February 25th, 2023 TELL US YOUR STORY: "We met online and hit it off right away. Mike and I have similar interests which have created the foundation of our companionship. We both love sports and most evenings have a game on. We also both love our beer and enjoy an afternoon on a patio enjoying a pint. Sunday mornings are for coffee while talking about our future together." - M TELL US ABOUT YOUR VENUE: "We fell in love with the Rose Chapel at the Best Western Stoneridge Inn, as soon as we saw it! Our main goal for a venue was to have the ceremony, reception and hotel to be all at one location, especially with it being a winter wedding. The Best Western Stoneridge Inn was the perfect venue, Natalie was great to work with and answered any questions we had right away." - M • Meghan P. Published September 1, 2023

September 17th, 2022 COLOUR PALETTE/THEME: "It was really important to us that all the details in our wedding were cohesive. Our colour palette had bright pinks, oranges, greens, and burgundy to contrast against the pine colour of our bridesmaid dresses. As a graphic designer, I couldn't wait to design all the details! I wanted the colours, fonts, and graphics to be incorporated into every piece of our wedding. We incorporated the bright colours into our flowers, stationery, chair markers, table settings, and our website. We also added different pieces of filipino culture into our wedding; with a halo-halo bar, abaniko fans, and Filipino snacks at the reception. - J • Jenna C. Published September 1, 2023

April 22nd, 2023 TELL US ABOUT YOUR VENUE: "We chose to have our wedding at the Cambridge Butterfly Conservatory because we fell in love with its unique beauty. A tropical oasis with thousands of butterflies flying around surrounded by gorgeous foliage and a breathtaking cascading waterfall. The team was absolutely phenomenal to work with. Over the many years of planning and replanning, Cayla was kind, supportive, and always patient. For that we are beyond grateful." - P COLOUR PALETTE: "I love soft pink hues and I really wanted the florals and décor to be elegant and timeless. February 11th, 2023 TELL US YOUR STORY: "Our story starts in 2019 with our first date - dinner out in downtown London. We quickly came to the realization that we had both worked for the same organization, but never actually crossed paths. We also bonded over the importance of family, friends, and travelling. After a few months of dating, COVID-19 hit and what we thought would be a fun week of living together in isolation turned into us moving in together, adopting our dog, Sky, from the London & Middlesex Humane Society, and buying a home. We rang in the 2022 New Year by getting engaged at our house followed by a limo ride around town - and got married in 2023. The next step in our journey as a married couple is starting our family through surrogacy." - A • Alex N. Published September 1, 2023

October 1st, 2022 BEST MEMORY: "Our first look! There are a lot emotions and stress leading up to the wedding day along with the nerves and excitement on the day of. When we saw each other for the first time it brought about a sense of calm - like this is my person and everything is going to be okay no matter what goes wrong. I was feeling so nervous about walking down the aisle and saying my vows in front of 100 people. All of that went away - it was a really nice feeling! One of the funniest moments of the day was when our 15 year old nephew went to walk our dogs down the aisle and our dog Theo decided he wasn't going to walk. Our nephew had to pick him up under one arm like a sack of potatoes and carry him down the aisle while Winnie pranced along down the aisle in her tutu." - A • Ashley B. Published September 1, 2023

August 27th, 2022 BIGGEST CHALLENGE: "First, it was very challenging to find vendors as everyone was booked up. We had to make some very quick fire decisions once we found out availability. This was incredibly stressful, but in the end it all worked out. Second, we had a very unconventional wedding - we didn't have a dance or alcohol, which may have ruffled a few feathers. However, both of those things are bonkers expensive and come with liabilities in a rural area. Instead of a dance, we had an open mic for all and a campfire. We sang songs together in a close-knit, impactful way, which was so special. During the reception, there was a walk-in refrigerator filled with all kinds of beverages. For those who didn't want to drive, camping was possible." - C • Vanessa W. Published September 1, 2023

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN TOGETHER: 2 Years PHOTOGRAPHY: Kelly Taylor - The Bridal Lounge (www.thebridallounge.ca) LOCATION: M&C Farm (@mandcfarmnorwich) TELL US ABOUT YOUR STORY: "One of our favourite ways to spend time together is in nature. We went early one morning to catch the sunrise and go beach glass hunting. After our beach glass hunting was done, Ethan called me over to a special spot on the beach. He then got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. With happy tears in my eyes I said “HECK YES!” I was so excited to get to marry my best friend, my favourite human, and the love of my life! Ethan even had to lock the car windows to

keep me from yelling “WE’RE ENGAGED!!” out the window on the drive home. (Picture Monica from Friends in the scene on the balcony after Chandler proposes. My energy was a lot like that. lol) And now the beautiful blue piece of beach glass Ethan found that morning will be my something blue on our wedding day! We wanted to capture our love in a unique way & since we both love the outdoors and animals: a highland cow farm was the perfect place for us! We loved being around the cows and sheep. It was so laid back, a beautiful setting, and we have so many fun memories from our engagement photo shoot!!" - T • Tracy C. Published September 1, 2023

Niagara 'Gorge'ous Engagement HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN TOGETHER: 4 Years PHOTOGRAPHY: Spirits Intriqued Photography (♥) (www.sipimage.com) LOCATION: Niagara Escarpment (www.niagaraparks.com) TELL US ABOUT YOUR STORY: "If I had to distil what I’ve learned about finding love from getting to know Jessica into two pieces of advice, they would be: 1. Classified ads are a great way to meet people. 2. Choose friends who are less oblivious than you are. If you ask Jess, we supposedly met for the first time at a U of T quizbowl club meeting sometime in 2016. But I have no recollection of this and if we did, we didn’t talk to each other. How we actually met was in the earth science undergraduate lounge in October 2018. I had posted an ad for a climbing partner on the lounge whiteboard, not necessarily looking to meet some young women, (bonus if that happened though). No one answered. No one, that is, until I happened to talk to Jess in the lounge,

and she realized that I was the one who had posted the ad. She had intended to email me, but someone had erased the board. Ironically given that it will soon be hers, she had forgotten how to spell my last name. We met up at a department pub night later that day, and before she even got there, my friend Sam could already tell that I was smitten. Sam wasted no time in making obnoxious comments to that effect, and suggesting that I ask her out. Much to my chagrin, Jess started dating someone else within about a week. We would still talk and occasionally go climbing together for the next couple of months. I distinctly remember that it was on one of these trips that I knew I had fallen completely in love with a girl who wasn’t mine (although she was single at this point, and I just didn’t know it)...*" - N • Nathan S. September 2nd, 2022 OUR STORY: "I met Tiera last March at a house party. FUN FACT: I wasn't originally going to go to this party because I was on crutches following a sports injury. Tiera was also originally going to stay home because she had work the following day. The universe clearly had other plans and we both made our way to the party. I walked in and saw Tiera's beautiful smile from across the room and knew I had to meet her. We INSTANTLY connected, as though we had met in a previous lifetime. We went out on a date the next day, and the day after that, and before we knew it, she was my person. Two months later, I took Tiera to Kelowna, BC on our first 'bae-cation'. The night before we were set to fly home, I took Tiera to Mission Hill Family Estate, a vineyard overlooking the mountains. We had a gorgeous charcuterie spread and wine tasting. I took Tiera on a walk around the estate, and found an unreal spot by the estate bell. This... was...it! While Tiera gazed at the mountainesque scenery, I got down on my bad knee, brace and all. I'm sure I said something loving and sweet because SHE SAID YES! Just like that we were engaged, 6 months after we met we were married." - M • N. Melo Published September 1, 2023

When the time came to make it official and start planning a wedding, we knew we wanted to make a bit of a production of it. BouquetAlternatives EXPERT TIP BY: Rosemary N., Time 4 Flowers (♥) (www.time4flowers.ca)

Published September 1, 2023

Traditionally, bouquets made up of a mixture of colorful blooms have been key to completing the bridal party ensemble. And while coordinated floral bouquets are absolutely stunning, you may be looking for something a little different. Luckily, there are plenty of other options. From choosing a different shape to including a variety of materials, or even forgoing a bouquet altogether, an alternative may be the perfect fit to complete your aesthetic. 1. Consider carrying a Clutch Purse Bouquet for yourself and/or your bridesmaids. This trend is becoming increasingly popular as it allows brides to have a practical accessory that can be used beyond the wedding day. The clutch purse can be embellished with flowers or other decorative elements to still give a nod to the traditional bouquet. This modern take on the wedding bouquet is a stylish and practical choice. 2. Many brides choose to incorporate meaningful items into their bouquet, such as a book or bible. The book or bible can represent the couple's shared faith or values and can be a cherished keepsake for years to come. Incorporating a book or bible into the bouquet can also add a unique and personal touch to the wedding ceremony. Whether it's a family heirloom or a new addition, a book or bible in the bouquet can be a touching way to honour the couple's beliefs and love for one another. 3. A wedding bouquet featuring a lantern can be a stunning addition to a bride or bridesmaid’s ensemble. The lantern can add a unique touch of elegance and whimsy to the bouquet. It can also serve as a practical accessory for an evening wedding, providing a warm glow to guide the bride down the aisle. Whether the lantern is incorporated into a traditional floral arrangement or used as the centrepiece of the bouquet, it is sure to catch the eye and make a memorable impression on the wedding day.

PHOTOS, this page : Photos by Grey

4. Including a fan in bouquets can add an elegant and vintage touch, especially if it is a delicate lace fan or a fan with intricate designs. The fan can be used as the base of the bouquet, with flowers and greenery arranged around it, or it can be used as an accent piece, with flowers and ribbons attached to it. Either way, a fan can be a creative and stunning addition to a wedding bouquet, as well as way to keep cool during those warm summer weddings. 5. Another idea is to incorporate a straw hat into their bouquet. The hat can serve as a base for the flowers to be arranged around, adding a rustic and charming touch to the overall look. This unconventional approach can create a whimsical and romantic atmosphere, perfect for an outdoor wedding. The straw hat bouquet can also be a memorable keepsake to cherish for years to come. 6. Another way to keep cool while enhancing the beauty of a bouquet is by incorporating a parasol. A parasol adds a touch of whimsy and romance to the bouquet while also providing shade for the bride or bridesmaid on a sunny day. It can also be a beautiful keepsake that can be cherished for years to come. A parasol bouquet can be customized to match the wedding theme and colours. It can be adorned with flowers, ribbons, and other decorative elements to make it truly unique. • ABOUT TIME 4 FLOWERS: Time 4 Flowers started out as a dream. Should I T ip my Vendors? EXPERT TIP BY: Kristen S., The Wedding Ring (www.theweddingring.ca) Published September 1, 2023

Should I tip my vendors is one of the questions that we hear most often. When it comes to tipping wedding vendors, there is no hard and fast rule. It is ultimately up to the couple's discretion. However there are several factors to consider before deciding whether or not to tip. First and foremost, it's essential to understand that tipping is a gesture of gratitude for exceptional service. If a vendor has gone above and beyond to make your wedding day special, it may be appropriate to show your appreciation with a tip.

On the other hand, some vendors may not expect a tip, such as your florist or seamstress. However, if they have provided exceptional service or gone above and beyond the call of duty, you may want to consider tipping them as well. If you do decide to tip your vendors, it's important to do so discreetly and in a way that is convenient for you and the vendor. For example, you may choose to provide cash in an envelope or add a tip to your final payment.

The amount you tip will depend on various factors, including the vendor's level of service, the size of your wedding, and your budget. PRO TIP: Using The Wedding Ring Vendor Tipping Guide (see next page), factor in gratuites into your wedding budget.

Ultimately, tipping your wedding vendors is a personal decision. Use The Wedding Ring Tipping Guide as a quick reference to determine the who, how much, and when of wedding gratuities.

It's also important to note that some vendors may already include a gratuity fee in their contract. In this case, tipping may not be necessary, but it's always a good idea to double-check with the vendor to avoid any confusion.

Don't F orget to F eed Your Vendors!

When deciding which vendors to tip, consider those who have had a significant impact on your wedding day. For example, your wedding planner, photographer, and DJ or band may have worked tirelessly to ensure everything runs smoothly.

DON'T FORGET THE BEST TIP OF ALL: A review! After the wedding be sure to leave reviews on the various platforms that your vendors are active on: Google, Facebook, & TheWeddingRing.ca are 3 of the most common. •

It is not just an etiquette courtesy to give your vendors a hot meal during your wedding, it is a necessity if you want them to give you their all. While vendors rarely have the time to stop for a meal, if they can get a quick break for some nourishment, that will allow them to put their best foot forward during your event!

TIPS ♥ 49

Spice up Your Wedding Dance with Visual Effects EXPERT TIP BY: Rob A., Music Central Entertainment (♥) (www.musiccentral.ca) Published September 1, 2023

LIGHTING: Special event lighting is the easiest and fastest way to create a dramatic look throughout the entire venue or to just highlight one small space or single moment. One of our favourite forms of special event lighting used at weddings is intelligent lighting. Intelligent lighting is programmable to any array, will play to the music, offers unlimited colours so it can be a perfect match to your wedding, and can change the whole aesthetic of your wedding. You can even use intelligent lighting to replicate the romance of candlelight. Other popular forms of lighting used in weddings are totem/tower lights, monogram lighting, and of course, uplighting. The right kind of lighting can make your whole wedding reception glow. COLD FIREWORKS: Cold fireworks are a type of pyrotechnic display that create a unique visual effect at your wedding reception. Unlike traditional fireworks, cold fireworks do not produce any heat or sound, making them ideal for use in areas where noise and heat may be an issue. Use cold fireworks during your grand entrance,

at your first dance or as you’re making your getaway for a dramatic effect. FOG MACHINES: A fog machine can be an excellent addition to a wedding, as it can add drama and a touch of magic to the atmosphere. With the right lighting, the fog can create a mystical ambiance, especially during the first dance or the cake cutting ceremony. The fog can also be used to conceal the wedding party's entrance or exit, creating a sense of anticipation and excitement. However, it is essential to use the fog machine in moderation so that it does not become overwhelming or cause any discomfort to guests. With careful planning and execution, a fog machine can be a memorable and enchanting addition to any wedding. CO2 GUN: A CO2 Jet Cannon is a device that produces a strong jet of air using compressed CO2 gas, providing a visually stunning impact. Due of the captivating spectacle they produce, these cannons are frequently employed in concerts, nightclubs, and weddings. Be sure to coordinate the timing and placement of the CO2 cannon with your photographer and videographer to ensure that they capture the effect in all its glory. With a little planning and coordination, a CO2 cannon can be an unforgettable addition to your wedding reception. PHOTOBOOTH: Open air photobooths are still the most popular choice with couples planning their weddings. Not only will a fun photobooth capture memories of your special day, your guests will have a

blast dressing up in silly props and striking poses for the camera. A photobooth is a great way to keep your guests entertained during the reception. While you and your partner are off taking photos or having the dancing, your guests can occupy themselves by taking photos in the booth. It's a fun activity that everyone can enjoy, regardless of their age or relationship to the happy couple. Open air photobooths allow more people to participate in each photo. You can customize the backdrop and props to fit your theme or colour scheme, which will make for some beautiful and cohesive photos. Plus, the booth itself can serve as a fun and quirky piece of décor. Spicing up your wedding dance with visual effects is a great way to make your wedding even more special and memorable. Whether you choose to use intelligent lighting, fog machines, pyrotechnics, or all of the above, the key is to personalize your dance and make it unique to you and your partner. With a little creativity and imagination, you can create a wedding dance that your guests will never forget. • ABOUT MUSIC CENTRAL: Music Central Entertainment is the area's most respected disc jockey service based out of London, ON. A wedding reception is the culmination of months, sometimes years of planning and is often marked by a lively dance floor. The wedding dance is not just an opportunity for the newlyweds to showcase their moves, but it is a chance for the guests to let loose and have some fun. These days modern couples are searching for ways to add a little wow factor to their wedding reception experience. Rob from Music Central shares these ideas to spice up your wedding dance with visual effects.

Black & White Images And Why T hey Are T imeless EXPERT TIP BY: Frances Morency Photography (www.francesmorency.com) Published September 1, 2023

Documenting weddings in a journalistic style means photographing moments that are happening and I KNOW every photographer says they capture "the moments" but a trained journalistic photographer knows when to anticipate what is going to happen next and knows when to shoot to capture emotions, mood, and movement to truly document the events on your wedding day. B&W images exemplify this style of wedding photography and creates images that are timeless so that when the editing trends fade or change...your images still look beautiful. You'll be able to look back at your wedding day and feel the emotions you had with your partner, friends, and family. Shooting with film is making a huge comeback and instead of choosing colour trends choose photography with film, creative blurred portraits and still receive a full gallery of colour images. • ABOUT FRANCES MORENCY PHOTOGRAPHY: Specializing in wedding photography, portrait photography, and event photography in Collingwood, Toronto, Cambridge, Barrie, all over Canada and Europe.

Photo Booth Q&A

EXPERT TIP BY: Cyndee L., Picture Us Mirror Photobooth (♥) (www.pictureus.ca) Published September 1, 2023

You’re engaged! Congratulations! We hope you are having fun planning your wedding and enjoying the process of picking out all of the details that are important to you and your soon-to-be spouse. If you’re in the throes of planning your wedding and choosing all of your vendors, you might be overwhelmed with questions about when exactly everything needs to be done and how soon you need to contact each and every one of your multitude of vendors. You may have even downloaded a timeline or an app to tell you when everything needs to happen, only to find you're already behind. If you're worried about where in your timeline "book the photo booth" needs to happen, keep on reading because we're about to drop some super helpful info. WHAT IS THE BEST TIME TO BOOK? There is a part of the planning process that is "too early" to book a photo booth. And this shouldn't surprise you, but it's before you've finalized your date. If you don't have a date, it's difficult - but not impossible - for photo booth companies to lock you in on the schedule. NOT QUITE SURE OF YOUR VENUE? This is actually a bit more flexible. If you're totally 100% locked in to your date but still making a final decision on the location, they can still reserve you on the schedule. Couples sometimes even need to change venues and it works out just fine. Just make sure your venue meets the space requirements needed for your specific booth.

HOW DO I KNOW IF IT IS TOO LATE? There is a time that is "too late" to book a photo booth. It can be difficult for photo booth companies to handle last-minute bookings. There's a crazy amount of prep work that goes into each and every event to provide you with a top-notch custom and personalized photo booth experience. It's hard to guarantee that quality on short notice especially during the busiest MayDecember months of the year. However, always reach out anyway if you've found yourself in a tight space time-wise. We for instance, have multiple photo booths in our inventory and can often still make magic happen, but we definitely prefer as much time as possible. That really leaves booking your photo booth right in the middle. Booking your photo booth can happen anywhere between finalizing your venue to about a month prior (pending availability). BEAT THE RUSH! TEST THEM OUT The Ring's Wedding Expos happen every winter, spring and fall. If you get the chance, try to attend a show and check out the photo booths in person. Show days are always super busy and the wait time to chat with vendors can be a while. Key dates also tend to book up at the shows. Beat the rush, get in touch and book before the upcoming shows. Then come to the show anyway, bring your 'squad' and stop by to have a little fun playing with all the booths! WHAT ARE THE PERKS OF BOOKING FURTHER IN ADVANCE?

If a photo booth experience is on your "gotta have it" list for your wedding, booking early has a few advantages. You'll have the first choice of booth options for your big day. This can range from interactive Mirror Booths to digital only to the 360 Experience and the very cool Cruiser that allows the attendant to wander the crowd and capture the fun where your guests are! By booking early, you'll have the peace of mind that you were able to book your first-choice booth. You lock in your package at the current pricing. To put it frankly, like everything in our current economy, the costs to operate a business have gone up substantially. Price increases are inevitable. Lucky for you, when you book usually determines the price you pay, not the date the experience is provided. So booking early has the potential to save you money on your service. IS IT BAD IF I WAIT UNTIL CLOSER TO MY DATE TO BOOK? It's no problem at all! If we have the booth availability, we're more than excited to come be part of your day. So again, don't worry or feel like you're "behind" whatever timeline wedding planning has put you on. Wedding celebrations are fun, so booking your photo booth should be fun too! • ABOUT PICTURE US PHOTOBOOTH: Picture Us Photobooth features the latest technology in interactive photography. Vibrant animations and voice guidance invite your guests to engage in a fun interactive ‘selfie’ experience.

7 Reasons to Choose an All-In-One Venue EXPERT TIP BY: Shannon C., Tapestry Hall (♥) (www.tapestryhallcom) Published September 1, 2023

Modern couples are eschewing the multi-stop wedding day in favour of hosting their wedding ceremony and wedding reception at an all-in-one venue. Why is that? The benefits of having your wedding ceremony at the same venue as your wedding reception are almost too numerous to list. Not only does having both your ceremony and reception at one venue allow you to make the most of your venue budget, but it also eliminates any downtime between the two parts of the event.

Guests who wouldn't be able to attend at separate locations for the ceremony and reception won't have to make a choice.

Here are a few more compelling reasons to consider hosting your wedding ceremony and wedding reception at an all-in-one venue:

6. More options for photography and videography. While churches often have certain restrictions on where and how photos and videos can be taken, the same is hardly ever the case at other venues.

1. Selecting an all-in-one venue significantly simplifies the planning process. By booking a single location with a dedicated venue manager for your entire event, you streamline numerous aspects of your wedding compared to trying to coordinate things at two separate venues. 2. A more convenient and shorter commute. Spare your guests the extra effort of having to travel from one venue to another (or having you cover the transportation costs). It also means one less map to create and one less logistical issue to deal with. And who doesn't appreciate not having to find parking at multiple venues? 3. Enhance your decorations. Re-purposing décor becomes a breeze when your ceremony and reception areas are within the same venue. Not only can you transfer the flowers and other decorations of your choice, but you can even utilize your ceremony arch as the backdrop for your sweetheart table. 4. Ensure equal attendance for the ceremony and reception.

5. Smooth transition to the cocktail hour. No more confusion about where to go after the ceremony ends and when the cocktail hour starts. You can forget about all the awkwardness and rest assured that your guests are enjoying drinks and appetizers while you and the wedding party are busy taking photos.

7. Your DJ can start playing music 30 minutes before the guests arrive. They can also provide high-quality microphones for the ceremony officiant and readers, as well as ensure sound quality for live musical performances. Whether you’re thinking intimate to grand, traditional to modern or something completely uniquely you - Tapestry Hall at the Gaslight District have rooms that will be perfect for your special day. With over six spaces for you to choose from, we here at Gaslight Events Company are excited to help make your wedding dreams come true. • ABOUT TAPESTRY HALL: From intimate to grand, brunch to dinner, the team at Tapestry Hall is here to help you celebrate your forever in style! Wedding DressBustle St yle Guide EXPERT TIP BY: Jessy E., Sew Stylish Wedding Works (♥) (www.sewstylishweddingworks.com) Published September 1, 2023

Wedding bustles are a popular choice for brides who want the elegance of a train for their wedding ceremony and pictures, but not for the entire event. Bustling refers to the process of lifting and attaching the train of the skirt to the wedding gown, quickly transitioning to a train-free dress. There are several different types of wedding bustles available, each with their own unique advantages and disadvantages. Here are the 5 most popular types. FRENCH BUSTLE: This is one of the most popular types of wedding dress bustles. The French bustle involves attaching a series of buttons or hooks to the underside of the gown. The buttons or hooks are then used to lift the train of the dress off the ground, creating a beautiful cascading effect. One of the advantages of the French bustle is that it is relatively easy to create, and can be done quickly and easily on the day of the wedding. However, one of the disadvantages of the French bustle is that it can be quite heavy, which can make it difficult to move around in. BALLROOM BUSTLE: This type of bustle involves using a series of ribbons or ties to create a gathered effect at the back of the dress. The ballroom bustle is particularly popular for ballgown-style wedding dresses, as it creates a dramatic, flowing effect that is perfect for dancing. One of the advantages of the ballroom bustle is that it is relatively easy to create, and can be done on the day of the wedding. However, one of the disadvantages of the ballroom bustle is that it can be quite time-consuming to put in place, which can be a challenge for brides who are pressed for time.

DETACHABLE BUSTLE: A detachable bustle is a separate piece that can be attached or detached to the back of the dress, effectively creating a new, shorter dress. The detachable bustle is particularly popular for brides who want to have the option of wearing a long and short dress on their wedding day. One of the advantages of the detachable bustle is that it is extremely versatile, and can be used with a wide range of different dress styles. However, one of the disadvantages of the detachable bustle is that it can be quite expensive, as it requires the creation of a separate piece. Whether you opt for a French bustle, a ballroom bustle, an Austrian bustle, or a detachable bustle, it is important to choose a style that complements your dress. It is also important that you feel comfortable and confident on your wedding day. With a little bit of research and preparation, and also in consultation with your gown shop and/or seamstress, you can find the perfect wedding bustle to suit your needs. • ABOUT SEW STYLISH WEDDING WORKS: Sew Stylish Wedding Works (♥) (www.sewstylishweddingworks.com) in Ingersoll, ON carries an array of beautiful stylish designer collections for brides of every size and budget. Helping every bride to feel comfortable and have an amazing experience searching for that special dress!

PHOTOS, this page : Fedora Media

AUSTRIAN BUSTLE: The Austrian bustle involves using a series of loops and buttons to create a gathered effect at the back of the dress. The Austrian bustle is particularly popular for dresses with a lot of beading or lacework, as it allows these intricate details to be showcased even when the train is lifted off the ground. One of the advantages of the Austrian bustle is that it is relatively easy to create, and can be done on the day of the wedding. However, one of the disadvantages of the Austrian bustle is that it can also be quite heavy, which can make it difficult to move around in.

How the Wedding Industry is Changing EXPERT TIP BY: Erin B., Once Upon A Time Weddings (www.onceuponatimeweddings.ca) Published September 1, 2023

I want to share some of my thoughts and expertise on how the wedding industry is shifting as we head into 2024. The bridal tea, if you will. In April 2023 we saw one of the “bridal giants” file for their second Chapter 11 bankruptcy in the last five years. They owe millions of dollars to their debtors and have a relatively small amount of assets compared to those debts. Taken from Springfield Business Journal, "while weddings have rebounded since virtually coming to a halt during the early days of the pandemic, a decline in marriage rates and a shift toward more casual ceremonies has hampered the wedding industry overall. A statement from wedding industry executive Jim Marcum reads in part: 'An increasing number of brides are opting for less traditional wedding attire, including thrift wedding dresses. These shifting consumer preferences have significantly exacerbated the demand for formal wedding dresses, bridesmaid dresses, and related accessories has decreased substantially in the current environment." While I do agree that weddings have shifted over the last few years, specifically surrounding the pandemic, I think that the reason that big box stores have struggled

is that they have not kept up with the evolution in the tastes and preferences of brides. What are brides looking for in a wedding gown and shopping experience? Here are the top 3 things we've seen: BRIDES WANT MORE OF AN EXPERIENCE AS THEY SHOP FOR THEIR GOWN. They want to be surrounded by their family members in an intimate setting, snapping pictures, and creating a memory of how they said yes to the dress. It’s more about those emotions, those moments, those experiences than saving the most amount of money. It’s the most important gown they’ll ever wear in their lifetime and they want to work with a store who gets that. Who walks with them through their journey. Who remembers their name and asks them questions about the planning process. BRIDES WANT A MORE UNIQUE GOWN THAN THEY SEE EVERYWHERE. Who wants to walk down the aisle in the same gown that their cousin did? Who wants their guests to be able to go online and see exactly how much they paid for their gown? Brides want a gown that reflects them, their personality, and their wedding day. That their guests remember because it was unique and totally “them”. BRIDES WANT BETTER SERVICE WHEN THEY ARE SHOPPING FOR THEIR WEDDING GOWN. I mean, does this really need to be said? Brides want a stylist they can connect with during their appointment. Who cheers them on and plays their wedding song for them while they stand in their gown. They don’t want

a stylist who's not really interested in the wedding industry or who's going back and forth between them and two other brides. Yes, weddings have shifted. We see more and more brides having smaller ceremonies or even eloping. But, we still see brides buying the gown that they love for these occasions. Because they are still the bride no matter where the ceremony is or how many people are sitting in the audience. We still see brides wanting an experience. Brides want to work with someone who's passionate about the wedding industry. Whether or not this particular gown store chain goes bankrupt or lives to continue to sell wedding gowns for a few more years, I think what’s clear is that bridal stores have to shift with brides. We have to anticipate what they want, both in the styles of gowns they say yes to, and also in the experiences that they create along the way. If any, the recent challenges of COVID have taught us to appreciate those moments even more. To cherish our loved ones deeper. To celebrate life moments in unique ways." - E • ABOUT ONCE UPON A TIME WEDDINGS: Offering brides an unforgetable bridal experience as well as have unique and beautiful wedding gowns and bridesmaids dresses. We want you to love your gown AND we want you to create the most wonderful Say Yes story. We stock wedding gowns size 8-32 and our gowns range in price from $899-2399. PHOTOS, this page: Once Upon at Time Weddings

"As a bridal store owner celebrating thirteen years in business in September, I’ve seen a few things. I’ve owned a business directly after a recession, and been part of many ebbs and flows and trends of the bridal industry. Hello, big black bows and pick up skirts, we’re looking at you!

Say 'Yes' to Off-Season Savings!

TIPS ♥ 59

EXPERT TIP BY: Danielle C., Rebel Creek Golf Club (www.golfnorth.ca/rebelcreek) Published September 1, 2023

Rebel Creek Golf Club has become a popular spot for off-season weddings for many reasons. From budget-friendly prices to the additional privacy afforded by the golf course being closed, there are many benefits to tying the knot at Rebel Creek during the off-season months. Here are some perks of booking off-season: •

When booking an off-season wedding at Rebel Creek, couples can take advantage of 50% off hall rental and ceremony fees. Off-season weddings are defined as any weddings between November and April. Not only is Rebel Creek’s off-season pricing attractive, but couples are also granted extra flexibility and convenience. Early set-up times can be arranged without additional charge, making it easier for couples to take care of the small details. Plus, with the entire facility to themselves during the off-season, couples will be afforded extra privacy that they may not be able to get during the busy summer months. Even though pictures on the golf course are not permitted during offseason due to the weather, couples can still take advantage of the beautiful scenery at Rebel Creek. The large back patio, the front drive, and the entrance areas are all great choices for those stunning winter wedding photos.

With the golf course closed, couples also have more dates available for their wedding during the off-season than any other time of the year.

Danielle & Adam tell us "We chose Rebel Creek because it has the most amazing Muskoka Lounge. The Muskoka Lounge looks over the golf course and in the winter its a solid field of beautiful snow. Everyone was incredible to work with, Danielle and Frank made sure everything we needed was done and let us come in early to decorate!" - D For brides and grooms looking for a stunning venue to make their dream wedding come alive, Rebel Creek Golf Club is a great option during the offseason months. From budget-friendly prices to the privacy and convenience afforded by the golf course closure, couples can find everything they’re looking for at Rebel Creek during the off-season. • ABOUT REBEL CREEK GOLF CLUB: Offering elegance and ambiance during all seasons: a summer wedding overlooking the greens, an autumn wedding amidst the falling leaves, or a classic winter wonderland. Our patio overlooks the 18th hole and other parts of the golf course, providing a gorgeous backdrop for any part of your wedding.
