ALL YOU NEED IS LOVE... AND THE WEDDING RING At The Wedding Ring, we research, create, and curate quality, needto-know wedding content, year-round, alongside our clients, who just happen to be some of Ontario’s most talented wedding experts. We then deliver it all in print (THE WEDDING RING MAGAZINE) and online (THEWEDDINGRING.CA) to a geographically targeted bride and groom audience. As a result, our clients book more weddings and our readers find it easier to plan the ultimate local wedding. On the odd chance you ever find Anne, Kristen, Jess, and the team at The Wedding Ring more than a few feet away from their WiFi connections, it’s likely because you’re at one of THE RING'S WEDDING EXPO events which take place seasonally in 10+ cities across Ontario. These are couture wedding shows filled with over the top exhibits, live design palettes, and many (many, many!) engaged couples. If you’re a wedding professional who offers products that every bride or groom should have, raises the bar on service, or rewrites the definition of couture, we’d love to work with you - online, in print, and/or in person. The Wedding Ring will help you reach your target brides and grooms, share (and show off) your expertise, grow your business, and make headlines. TELL US YOUR STORY: "We met in 2018 when we were hired for a contract posting together. We were instant friends and only had a few coffee and lunch dates before we quickly realized that we were falling in love. We have thrived through a period of long distance, the Pandemic, and other obstacles that have tested our love and devotion to one another. Above all, I knew she was going to be my wife. We were just waiting for the timing to be right. I proposed to Cheyenne in 2021 after we bought our first home and moved in together. It was a very private and special moment between us on our 4 year anniversary. We quickly began planning for a very big wedding the following year and adopted a little kitten to complete our fierce, valid, and beautiful family of three!" - I •

TELL US ABOUT YOUR FLORIST: "We discovered Rosemary through a referral from Bryan’s brother Ben. Ben and his wife Brittainy had nothing but amazing things to say about Rosemary and the service she offered. We had an initial meeting with Rosemary where we showed her our colour palette and some inspiration photos for our day. With little knowledge about flowers we trusted, Rosemary’s judgement and expertise. She provided us with a thorough outline and proposal of what our flowers would look like on our wedding day. She honoured our budget and was extremely professional." ADVICE: "Trust the experts! Obviously everyone has their own taste but the experts will know the best way to execute your vision. It is also beneficial to reach out to your friends and family who were recently married to see what vendors they would recommend. Many of our vendors we hired based on rave reviews." - J •

COLOUR PALETTE: "We had two different ceremonies on the same day: Our traditional Ghanaian/Nigerian ceremony and our "White" wedding ceremony. Traditional ceremony: Our colours were blue, gold, and white as those are considered royal colours in our culture. Our outfits were blue and gold while our wedding party wore white. White Wedding ceremony: Our colour palette was a monochrome brown theme consisting of brown-tan-rust-cream. The bridesmaids wore rust brown, the groomsmen wore tan/ cream. A bow adds a timeless feminine touch to any look. The more voluminous bow can add to a more dramatic look." SHIMMER AND SPARKLE: "Nothing screams “I’m a bride” like sequins and sparkles do. We are seeing a variety of dresses adorned in all things sparkly; sequin appliques, glitter underlays, and beaded laces. One thing is certain: there will be no shortage of bridal glam in 2024." a gown with a slit can set the mood. They are both sexy and sophisticated. Slits they can be customized to fit any bride’s style and silhouette." It is a modern take on the classics for brides looking to push the boundaries in a more whimsical way." CLEAN & SIMPLE: "While some 2024 brides choose extravagant wedding dresses, others find beauty in simple, sleek silhouettes with clean lines and minimal embellishments. This look is all about the fabric and the shape of the gown and is popular for the modern minimalist bride who loves a less is more look." T he Ring's T rend Report WHAT’S HOT ON THE HORIZON

FEATURE BY: Anne Warren & Kristen Sullivan, The Wedding Ring (www.theweddingring.ca) Published January 1, 2024

We've done the research. We've talked to the experts. We've watched the fashion runways, the celebrity weddings, and a million other little details that help us forecast what's going to be hot for 2024 and beyond. After sorting through dozens of potential trends, we’ve curated this list of our favourite 11 – we just couldn’t settle on 10! – and we'll talk about how to incorporate these trends into your wedding day. champagne tower

CHAMPAGNE TOWERS are an vintage favourite making a fresh appearance. You can easily add a touch of glamour with a tower of poured champagne. Champagne towers can be the centrepiece of a posh cocktail hour or paired with another décor element like the seating chart. The act of pouring champagne into your tower can be a fun photo op for the couple as well as a way to kick off your cocktail hour. Or save the tower for right before the introductions and toast to the happy couple! Choose a champagne flute or coupe depending on your style and taste! lambeth cake

LAMBETH CAKES are the cakes decorated in the old English tradition of “over-piping”, adding row after row if intricate detail including garlands, scrolls, lattice, flowers, and vines over top of each other. These over decorated cakes give the impression of depth and layering. Lambeth cakes say goodbye to simplicity of fondant and welcome back to the sweet decadence of butter cream. fast food

FAST FOOD is always a fan favourite but did you know that you can also add it to your wedding? Pizza as part of the late night has been a staple but have you considered bringing in other options? Have a late night burger and fries bar provided by either your venue or your local burger joint. Tacos, subs, wraps, chicken wings, popcorn, and ice cream are also fast food options that are sure to delight your guests.

DESIGN INSPIRATION ♥ 45

Frequently seen on the runways in coats, clothes, and even hair, FRINGE has dipped in and out of fashion for years. Thanks to the popularity of the bohemian look, fringe is making it’s way into weddings. Easily incorporate fringe in your wedding décor by adding it to your ceiling canopy, photo booth backdrop, specialty table bunting, and more. You can go wild with colour or stick to a neutral and natural boho palette.

fringe You can expect to see MIXED PRINTS at a 2024 wedding and we are here for it! Mix your prints in your table décor with different patterns of linens, add a patterned charger, or place setting. Keep your colours complimentary but let your imagination run wild with your prints.

Wicker

Mixed Prints

WICKER is another child of the boho trend. Wicker adds a neutral and natural touch to any and all décor. There are so many ways to incorporate wicker that we’ll never be able to list them all. A few of our favourites include: fans, chairs, baskets, seating charts, and arches. There is no limit to how you can include this earthy element to your wedding.

46 ♥ DESIGN INSPIRATION Another hot trend for 2024 wedding décor is to bring FOREST elements into your design. From trees to branches, greenery to wood, a touch of the forest brings a bit of magic to your wedding day. Instead of bringing the forest to your wedding, take your wedding to the forest by hosting your ceremony on the forest's edge. Tiny Bouquets

Forest Say hello to TINY BOUQUETS! With the continued popularity of smaller guest list and budgets, more and more brides are choosing smaller scale floral arrangements. While there will always be a place in our hearts from large, wild bouquets, we’re loving the more artistic, constructed look of the tiny bouquet. Though small in size, these bouquets can still have a big impact. Themed Bar

THEMED BARS are a fun way to bring your personality and taste to your big day. If you’re a martini aficionado, have a martini bar. Margarita fans may decide to offer a selection of their favourite flavours. Or maybe you just want to incorporate chocolate into the themed bar at your wedding. A themed bar can be as unique as the newlyweds themselves. Colour After years of a neutral palette, COLOUR, actual colour! is back in weddings. From colour on wedding gowns, to bold coloured tuxedos and suits, from décor to invitations, this trend is a sight for sore eyes. Pair this colour trend with the mixed pattern trend for a visual feast!!

Audio Guestbook

AUDIO GUESTBOOKS came on the wedding scene in early 2021. Since then, they’ve become the hottest trend in wedding guestbooks. An Audio Guestbook serves double duty at your wedding. Offered in an array of telephone styles, it can be a uniquely vintage décor element or fun retro throw back. Most importantly, an audio guestbook captures memories with a personal touch. Throughout the reception, guests can leave a personal, heartfelt and/or humorous message for the wedding couple. Recordings provide an authentic and unfiltered glimpse into your special day.

T op 5 T ips F or Catering Your Wedding EXPERT TIP BY: John T., Platters Cateringl (♥) (www.platterscatering.ca) Published January 1, 2024

Your wedding reception's food will be one of the most memorable aspects of your special day, so it's important to get it right. What is the secret to knocking your wedding menu out of the park? Finding the perfect person to manage your kitchen. Your wedding caterer will be responsible for hors d'oeuvres, late night snacks, and everything in between, so take the time to search for the right one.

3. FOOD OPTIONS AND FLEXIBILITY: See if your caterer can customize the menu for you. "At Platters Catering, we have a standard menu. However we welcome our couples to customize their menu so it’s exactly what they want for their wedding. Whether its homestyle comfort food or five star fine dining, nothing is off limits with us!" - J

Catering plays an important role in the success of your wedding reception. Ensure that you're making the right decision by following these tips:

4. RENTALS, DÉCOR, AND MORE: Check with the caterer to see if you can rent cutlery, dishware, glassware, tables, chairs, linens etc. It makes everyone’s life easier if you can get everything from one company. You'll have less bills, deposits and e-mails to deal with!

1. ASK THE QUESTIONS: Ask all the questions that you think of; even the ones you think don’t matter! The food for your wedding is one of the most important parts to your wedding, so you need to make sure it’s perfect ! 2. RESEARCH THE CATERER: It’s not always about the price! For sure price is always a factor for your special day. However, research the caterer as the reviews can speak higher than the price tag.

5. BOOKING YOUR CATERER: As soon as you have decided on your venue, it’s a good idea to book your caterer. Caterers will book up quickly for peak wedding season! • ABOUT PLATTERS CATERING: Platters Catering and Events is your one-stop shop for your wedding needs; food, staffing, event rentals and more!

Choosing the P erfect Wedding MC EXPERT TIP BY: Charlene L., Stratford Country Club (♥) (www.stratfordcountryclub.ca) Published January 1, 2024

COMFORTABLE SPEAKING IN FRONT OF A CROWD: When it comes to choosing an MC for your wedding, comfort in public speaking is paramount. An MC should be confident, charismatic, and at ease when addressing a crowd. They will be responsible for capturing the attention of your guests and creating a delightful atmosphere. To gauge their speaking abilities, watch videos of their previous performances or request a sample introduction. An MC who can engage the audience with their words and storytelling will leave a lasting impression. ABILITY TO FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS: Your wedding day involves multiple stakeholders, including the couple, venue, and vendors. The perfect wedding MC is one who can effectively communicate and collaborate with all parties involved. From respecting dress codes to adhering to specific schedules, the MC must be attentive to details and follow instructions precisely. Their ability to integrate your preferences and guidelines from other stakeholders ensures a cohesive and personalized celebration. TIME MANAGEMENT SKILLS: A wedding reception is a carefully orchestrated event with various activities and moments that need to flow seamlessly. Your ideal MC should excel in time management, ensuring that the evening stays on schedule. They should have a knack for keeping things moving without feeling rushed or chaotic. To assess their time management skills, you can inquire about their experience coordinating events or request references from previous clients. An MC who can maintain a smooth and punctual flow will allow you and your guests to enjoy every moment.

PHOTO: Nicole Janette Photography

PHOTO: Cara Gilhula Photo

FAMILIARITY WITH THE COUPLE: Finding an MC who knows you as a couple can add an extra layer of magic to your wedding reception. They will be able to infuse personal anecdotes

and stories that resonate with you and your guests. An MC who has taken the time to understand your journey as a couple can elevate the atmosphere, creating a unique and engaging experience. When seeking an MC, prioritize individuals who show genuine interest in learning about you and are eager to share that connection with your loved ones. RESPECTS AND FOLLOWS THROUGH ON WISHES: Your wedding day is all about your dreams and desires. A good MC should respect and honour your wishes for the evening. They should have open lines of communication, actively listening to your preferences and ideas. By carefully considering your vision, the MC can work closely with you to ensure that the reception reflects your style and personality. An MC who is committed to going the extra mile to make your night memorable will leave a lasting impression on you and your guests. EASY-GOING AND ADAPTABLE: Unforeseen changes are an inevitable part of life and your wedding day is no exception. The ability of an MC to remain calm, flexible, and adaptable is crucial. From sudden weather changes to unexpected schedule adjustments, a good MC can think on their feet and find creative solutions. Their calm presence and quick thinking will help navigate any challenges seamlessly, allowing you to relax and enjoy your special day. Choosing the right wedding MC is a decision that should not be taken lightly. By considering these qualities - comfort in speaking, ability to follow instructions, time management skills, familiarity with the couple, respect for wishes, and adaptability - you can ensure an unforgettable experience for everyone involved. Remember, a phenomenal MC will create cherished memories that you and your guests will forever hold dear. • ABOUT STRATFORD COUNTRY CLUB: The Stratford Country Club is Stratford’s premier wedding venue. Their event space includes an event patio, outdoor wedding ceremony area and beautiful indoor space to celebrate your wedding or special event. Chef Ken Odette offers a terrific list of wedding menu options, however, customizing menus to fit your tastes, preferences, and/or dietary requirements is always possible.

Your wedding day is one of the most significant moments of your life, and you want every aspect to be perfect. One crucial element that often gets overlooked is the role of the Master of Ceremonies (MC). The MC sets the tone for your reception, making it essential to choose someone who can make the evening memorable and enjoyable for you and your guests. Let us guide you through the key qualities to look for when selecting a good wedding MC.

The iconic Central Library location in downtown Kitchener has tons of natural light in all seasons, breathtaking artwork, and award-winning architecture that will make your day truly unforgettable. Beyond being an ideal place to exchange your vows, having your wedding at the library means something more.

The library's green initiatives are raising the bar in the region. You may have heard KPL is building a new NetZero, carbon neutral, energy efficient building but did you know the Central Library location is already a LEED Gold-certified building. For example, while hosting your ceremony in the courtyard your guests will be seated in our 85 green garden. A space lush with vegetables and fruits, pollinators for the neighbourhood butterflies, native flowers and foliage, an indigenous garden patch, and an herb patch. Don’t forget to say hello to the resident bees on the rooftop. When we asked couples why they were excited about weddings at the library we received some heartwarming responses. One in particular said, “The library builds relationships with community members and values inclusion and respect for all. When you think about it, library values demonstrate what it means to be a good partner and in a good relationship. Like a library, couples should strive to change and grow together, be open to new ideas, work on building a life together that is

sustainable and work towards creating a community that is inclusive and supportive of everyone. We are excited about KPL because our values correlate with the library's values. But also, we love artsy photography that involves books!” KPL's dynamic spaces are adaptable to meet your needs. Whether you are seeking a cozy and intimate ceremony or have plans for a big, elegant reception, the library is the perfect venue. The library’s one-of-kind location is the perfect place to start your life together. • Available on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays all year-round • Indoor/outdoor ceremony options available • Indoor reception with 150 guests seated capacity, 200 guests cocktail capacity • Hire your preferred caterer or ask for recommendations • ABOUT KITCHENER PUBLIC LIBRARY: Kitchener Pubic Library is an iconic downtown Kitchener location, with ample parking, breathtaking art installations, award-winning architecture, and filled with the greatest love stories of all time. Beyond being an ideal place to exchange vows, having your wedding at the library also symbolizes something more.

Save the Sweetness: F reeze Your Wedding Cake for a T ast yF irst Anniversary EXPERT TIP BY: Jenn B., Decadently Yours (www.decadentlyyours.ca) Published January 1, 2024

As the wedding bells start ringing it's easy to get caught up in the joy and excitement of planning your big day. A lot of thought goes into the wedding cake, from choosing the flavour to the design. However, do you know that it's also an age-old tradition to preserve a slice of wedding cake for your first anniversary? Keeping the top-tier of your wedding cake frozen for a year is a sweet and sentimental way to relive your magical day and make new memories. Here's a guide on how to freeze your wedding cake for your first anniversary.

essential to keep the cake in the back of the freezer, where it's less likely to become damaged.

CHOOSE THE RIGHT CAKE: Most cakes can be frozen, but some will hold up better than others. A plain cake without mousse or other fillings tends to freeze better. Also, keep in mind that fondant cakes and cakes decorated with fresh flowers might not survive the deep freeze.

Preserving your wedding cake for a year may seem daunting, but it's a lovely way to celebrate your anniversary and relive the sweet memories of your big day. Decadently Yours in Guelph, Ontario can help you choose the perfect cake and provide tips on how to freeze it. Let them help you make your big day unforgettable. •

PREPARE THE CAKE: Before freezing your cake, you need to remove any decorative items and the top layer of fondant or icing. Make sure that it's clean and free of any debris. Next, wrap the cake tightly in plastic wrap to protect it from freezer burn and other odours.

ABOUT DECADENTLY YOURS: Decadently Yours prides themselves on creating delicious handcrafted baked goods that will be the centerpiece at any event. They bake from scratch each and every day using locally sourced ingredients the best they can. Preservatives and store-bought mixes have no place in their bakery! Decadently Yours offers 120 different flavours in both cakes and cupcakes. Their custom baked cupcakes, cakes, and baked goods are great for birthdays, showers, weddings, special events, sporting events, corporate functions and more!

FREEZING THE CAKE: Once the cake is wrapped, place it in an airtight container or box. Make sure that the container is big enough to hold the cake without damaging it. Label the container with the date and the cake's contents and place it in the freezer. It's

THAWING THE CAKE: On your first anniversary, it's time to unbox the cake. Remove the cake from the container and let it thaw in its wrapping at room temperature for a few hours. After that, take off the wrapping to reveal your beautifully preserved cake.

Booking Your Wedding Hotel Block EXPERT TIP BY: Erin E., Courtyard by Marriott Kitchener (www.marriott.com/ykfck) Published January 1, 2024

"Are you in the midst of planning the most magical day of your life, and wondering how to handle accommodations for your cherished wedding guests? Well, let me tell you, some of those blogs you've been reading might not have the full scoop! But guess what? I'm here to spill the beans, and I've got over 20 years of experience to back it up. So, let's dive in and make this journey fun and breezy, shall we? BOOKING EARLY – TIMING IS EVERYTHING!: First things first, when it comes to booking hotel rooms for your wedding guests, don't jump the gun. Unless you're getting hitched on the same day as the Super Bowl or a unicorn convention (kidding, but wouldn't that be cool?), aim to secure your wedding block about 8 months before your big day. When you're sending out those Save The Dates, that's the perfect moment to let your guests in on the secret – the booking link or code! Keep in mind that most hotels can only book a year in advance, so calling for a date two years out won't work. Sorry, early birds! NEGOTIATING RATES – THE SWEET ART OF THE DEAL: Now, let's talk rates. Imagine this: hotel staff are like professional shoppers, always on the hunt. We check out our competition daily. So, when you call us, trust us, we've got it covered. Plus, we're likely to offer you a discount, especially if the hotel is a preferred vendor for your wedding venue. So, pick a hotel that suits you and your guests' needs. You're in for a pleasant surprise! ONE HOTEL, ONE BLOCK – KEEP IT SIMPLE: The idea of booking multiple hotels might seem like a smart move, but think again. It can actually prevent you from getting those awesome perks and concessions. Instead, go for one block at one hotel. If the cost doesn't tickle their fancy, your guests can always explore other options or use their points. What's important is to pick a hotel with an average rate for the area and, of course, top-notch customer service.

PHOTOS, this page : Courtyard Kitchener

SIZE DOESN'T ALWAYS MATTER – GO SMALL AND SMART: Booking a large block can feel like the right thing to do, but it's not always the best idea. Depending on the hotel, you could be on the hook for payment, something we call attrition. Instead, consider booking just 10 rooms or a courtesy block. The hotel's sales manager can always add more rooms if they're getting booked, especially if your guests are on top of things and book early. More early bookings can lead to sweet rewards, like a free room for you or even some of your wedding party members. Just

remember to tell them you're exclusively booking with that one hotel! SEND REMINDERS – YOU SNOOZE, YOU LOSE!: Many couples phone monthly, only to discover that no one's bothered to book. Send them gentle reminders to book early to secure those discounts and help you reach the room nights needed for those fantastic perks! Save the last minute stress when all your guests complain they can’t get a room or the discount. They never read that there is a deadline! Remind them! CHECK-IN TIME – TIMING MATTERS: Here's a little nugget of wisdom that you might not find in every blog. Most hotels won't guarantee early check-in times, and the standard checkin time is around 3 PM. So, if your ceremony starts before that, your guests might find themselves in a bit of a pickle. Remind your guests to plan around this, and here's the big secret. If your wedding block has lots of reservations, you can negotiate an early check-in for you or your guests! Negotiation skills to the rescue! BOOK YOUR ROOM LIKE A PRO: When you're booking your block, make sure to have your credit card ready, and book your room. If your block reaches 20 rooms or more, go ahead and ask for a complimentary room or a free suite upgrade. It's also your chance to inquire about early check-in if your block meets the hotel's set room count. This tells the hotel you're loyal and informed – you've got your finger on the pulse of the hotel booking game. So, there you have it, folks! Booking hotel rooms for your wedding guests doesn't have to be a headache. With these handy tips and a smile on your face, you'll breeze through the process and be well on your way to concentrating on more important things for your special day. And hey, who doesn't love the idea of snagging a free room in the process? Keep the positivity flowing, and happy wedding planning!" - E • ABOUT COURTYARD BY MARRIOTT KITCHENER: "Whether you prefer a luxurious suite with kitchenette or a cozy contemporary room, we have an array of accommodation options to suit your taste and budget. Looking for an ideal hotel venue for your bridal shower or a private brunch gathering the next day? We have the perfect private rooms to make the occasion unforgettable."– E

T op 5 T ips F or DIY Wedding F lowers EXPERT TIP BY: Alida R., Lily on the Thames (www.lilyonthethames.ca) Published January 1, 2024

Say "I do" to amazing wedding flowers that won't break the bank! We all know blossoms are a must-have for any wedding, but they can leave your wallet feeling the heat. With a whopping $3000 average cost for centrepieces, bouquets, boutonnieres, and corsages, you might think floral dreams are out of reach. But wait! Lily on the Thames is here to share a secret: DIY flower arrangements are the way to go! They're not only budget-friendly but also easy peasy to create, even for the most novice florist! Here are five tips to successfully DIY your wedding flowers. 1. WHAT IS MY FLOWER BUDGET? If you're looking for fresh flowers, there's no better way to save money than by creating your own arrangements with bulk flowers. There are a few options on how you want to do that. You will save up to half the cost of your wedding flowers by using a DIY option, and with our packages you also save tons of time. All your tools, recipes, and simple video tutorials are provided so you can grab a glass of wine, and a few friends, and start creating your own wedding bouquet. 2. WHO WILL COME TO MY FLOWER PARTY? When making flower arrangements, it's not necessary to have crafty friends. As long as one follows video tutorials for flower prep and care, it's easy to succeed. The ideal companion is someone who makes the experience fun, whether it's a friend who dances and sings along to tunes or someone who provides a calming atmosphere. Couples don't have to be present during the process, and it can be an opportunity to include someone special in the wedding planning. Many mothers and mothers-in-law have made flowers for their children's weddings and found it to be a special experience.

3. WHERE WILL WE BE ABLE TO CREATE THIS? Get a game plan - pick a spot that's NOT carpeted, like a garage! It's the perfect place to make a creative mess and sweep it up later. Flowers can be stored in a cool spot out of direct sunlight until the big day. Let's make sure our precious posies don't suffer in the blazing sun! Only your boutonnières and corsages need to be refrigerated overnight. 4. HAVE YOUR INSPIRATION PICTURES READILY AVAILABLE To help your wedding squad make your dream day a reality, don't hold back on sharing your vision! Whip out those Pinterest boards, print out those inspo pics, and maybe even have a mockup arrangement to show off. The more you share, the closer you'll get to picture-perfect! 5. REMEMBER TO HAVE FUN! It’s easy to let little things stress you out, especially when you’ve put so much time and effort into planning the perfect day. So, the one flower on table seven’s centrepiece isn’t exactly what you pictured? No biggie! Trust me, your guests will be too busy having a blast to notice any tiny details. Everyone came to see YOU enjoy your day, so if you enjoy yourself everyone else will too! ABOUT LILY ON THE THAMES: Create your own arrangements using our modern DIY Wedding Flower Packages. Our packages include FLOWERS, RECIPES, AND VIDEO TUTORIALS so you can bring your floral vision to life. Pick up locations across Ontario, British Columbia, Alberta, and Quebec. T he One Where Your F riend Marries You EXPERT TIP BY: Richard K, Our Wedding Celebrations (www.ourweddingcelebration.love) Published January 1, 2024

1. There are only 3 elements that make a wedding 'legal' in Ontario. The couple must obtain a MARRIAGE LICENCE issued by a Municipality in the Province. That Licence can be completed by an authorized person such as a Licenced Wedding Officiant. The ceremony can take place anywhere in the Province of Ontario regardless of the issuing Municipality. The licence is valid for 90 days from the date of issue. 2. The couple must EXCHANGE VOWS or promises with one another. The Officiant must witness those vows but there is no prescribed wording for marriage vows in Ontario. The marriage act also says they must have intent to marry - my take on this is, if you don't have intent, why did you get a licence, invite friends and family, etc. 3.The Officiant MUST make a VERBAL PROCLAMATION of Marriage - "I now pronounce you..." So the short answer to that question is yes, BUT... If you’re still interested in having your own personal Joey perform your wedding ceremony, there are two ways you can do this. OPTION 1 is a quick and legal ceremony before or after the public event. This allows the friend to say and or do whatever they want. There are no restrictions on what they do or say if a licenced Officiant is not present for the public event. This quick & legal

ceremony takes less then 10 minutes and requires the couple and two witnesses to be present. Others are welcome and often are in attendance for the real thing. The legal ceremony can even happen on a different day. As is the case for many couples that marry here in Canada before departing for their Destination Wedding. Remember - your wedding anniversary is when you tell people it is or for them, when they witness your public ceremony. About 80% of the couples opt for this option. OPTION 2 is a co-hosted event with the Officiant present and performing at minimum the legal portions of the ceremony. With a co-hosted event, the Officiant (at minimum) must hear the marriage vows, supervise the signing of the Marriage Licence and make the proclamation of Marriage. They can assist in any other parts of the ceremony as agreed on by the couple and the friend involved with the ceremony. Couples wanting to have a friend not just participate in their ceremony, but perform it is a growing trend. This can be exceptionally great, funny, and heart warming or a near disaster for the couple and their guests. In our opinion, it's all in the preparation on the part of the friend. But that’s another article. Richard from Our Wedding Celebration also offers use of his online ceremony planner and consultations to help your Joey plan the ceremony. ABOUT OUR WEDDING CELEBRATIONS: Our Wedding Celebration Officiants know you don’t just want to go through the motions in your wedding ceremony - that’s why we help couples like you to create a fully customized celebration that expresses the depth of your love and commitment to each other in this sacred moment in time. •

TV and Hollywood make it seem so simple to have a friend or family member officiate your wedding; think Joey officiating Pheobe’s wedding to Mike on FRIENDS™. In Ontario it’s not so simple. HowT o Choose Your Wedding DJ

EXPERT TIP BY: Rob A., Music Central Entertainment (♥) (www.musiccentral.ca) Published January 1, 2024

So you’ve reached the stage of your wedding planning that you’re searching for your DJ. How do you know which DJ company is the perfect choice for you, your guests, and your wedding? When there are dozens of DJ companies all presenting themselves as the only option for you, how to you narrow it down and make the right choice for your perfect day? We asked our friends at Music Central what couples should consider when choosing their wedding DJ. Rob tells us, “It’s all about the fit.” 1. PRICE: It’s about price but it’s not really about price. Pricing is important and whatever DJ you select must fit into your overall budget. But price isn’t the most important part. It’s just the starting point. When determining your DJ budget, you should take into account if this budget fits your dream of what your wedding celebration will feel like. Many of the DJ’s you interview will fit in your budget but not all of them will fit in your vision for the day.

4. WORKABILITY: No matter how popular a DJ is or how great the reviews are, you have to be able to work together. How do they communicate? Do they respond to your emails or phone calls? Do they listen to your questions, concerns, and ideas? Will they work well with your other wedding professionals to create a seamless day? Wedding planning is not just about the destination, it's about the journey as well. 5. EXTRAS: Many of the best DJ’s offer multiple services for an all-in-one wedding planning experience. For example, Music Central offers their couples not just incredible DJ services, they also offer professional MC services, photobooth, uplighting, smoke machines, and more. It’s always a plus when you can coordinate multiple services with a single trusted source.

2. STYLE: It’s about style, but not the DJ’s style. It’s about your style and the style of your guests! What is your style? How will it be reflected in the music and dancing, atmosphere and enjoyment of the dance portion of your wedding? You want a DJ who will provide the soundtrack to your party that tells the story of who you and your guests are through music choices and keeping the dance floor packed.

Your wedding is a reflection of who you are as a couple and what you want your wedding to tell the world (or at least your guests) about who you are. Your wedding is not a reflection of who your DJ is. “It’s your wedding, not ours. It should be about the party you want to have. It shouldn’t be a party that’s identifiable by the DJ’s style. At Music Central, our passion is making sure that your wedding is everything you dreamed of, that the day reflects your personalities, and who you are as a couple. It’s all about you!”•

3. EXPERIENCE: Of course, the DJ’s track record and professionalism are important things to consider. But you’ll also want to consider the experience that you’re creating for your guests. Do you prioritize an Instagrammable Experience that’s all about how it looks? Or are you looking for an Emotional Experience that is all about how fun it feels? The DJ you select will be the engineer of this experience.

ABOUT MUSIC CENTRAL: Music Central Entertainment is the area's most respected disc jockey service based out of London, ON. Music Central specializes in weddings as well as corporate events, and creating a unique event based on the client’s wishes, musicality, and suggestions. As well as their famous DJ services, they can also provide photo booths, lighting, special effects, audio/visual, karaoke, master of cermonies, and much more.
