CO-ANCHOR SAYS I DO IN SCOTTISH

ST YLE

CTV News Toronto’s Michelle Dubé and her Bay Street beau, Mark Ferguson, were wed in September 2013. They chose a venue they love, in the home town they love, and then filled it with friends, family and a touch of Mark’s Scottish roots.

“We wanted to throw a great party for all of our loved ones. We didn’t want anyone to have to wait for anything... We wanted the night to flow... And to provide wonderful food, drinks, music & fun for our guests!” ~ Michelle & Mark

THEME & DÉCOR: The kilts were the jumping off point for the theme and colours. The tartan is the Scottish National Tartan and is similar to the Ferguson family tartan. To complement the celtic colours, a neutral ivory colour was used in the décor, “with touches of sparkle from mirrors and candles.” BIGGEST WEDDING CHALLENGE: “There is SO much involved in planning a wedding and by far, the biggest challenge for us was the guest list. We had a venue that was a certain size and a guest list that was quite another. It’s very hard to make everyone happy, but in the end, after many discussions, numerous compromises, and even a few tears… everything worked out wonderfully!” MICHELLE’S FAVOURITE MEMORIES: “Everything from the wedding day is so vivid... The sheer happiness I felt and moments I shared with Mark were the best part. Finally reaching him at the end of the aisle (after 8 ½ years together and all that wedding planning!) was so wonderful; it’s a moment I will cherish forever.”

BRIDE & GROOM: Michelle Dubé and Mark Ferguson PHOTOGRAPHY: Mark O’Neill and Alex Urosevic (photographers who often shoot for CTV News) WEDDING DATE: September 21, 2013 CEREMONY: St. Ann’s Church in Ancaster. “It was a beautiful hometown church and just 1.3km from the reception!” RECEPTION LOCATION: Hamilton Golf & Country Club in Ancaster (hgcc.ca) 3 TOP PRIORITIES: The venue (because it sets the tone for the party), the food/drinks, and the flow of the evening. Décor was also high on the list. GUEST COUNT: 179 STATIONERY: Custom tartan invitations from Minted (minted.com), and then wax sealed with the Ferguson crest.

There were many tears shed.” SPENT THE MOST ON: Food and drinks! FAVOURITE PLANNING ELEMENT: Because of Michelle’s background in TV, they created a video to air before their entrance into the reception. “It was a fake movie trailer of our love story. Mark and I wrote it and we had some of my talented CTV colleagues shoot and edit the piece. It ended up being hilarious, one of the highlights of the wedding!”
