Greyhound Weekly Edition 94

Volume 2 Number 42

Thursday 19 July 2018

There’s just over five weeks to go until the 145th running of Australia’s oldest greyhound race – the Waterloo Cup at Lang Lang. Coursing numbers are up by around 40 per cent in Victoria this season, with an increasing number of trainers realising the many benefits. The 2018 Waterloo Cup is scheduled for August 18 & 19, which will be the culmination of the 2018 Victorian coursing season. Around $30,000 in prize money will be won across the weekend. It’s not too late for trainers to begin setting their greyhounds for the Waterloo Cup, which boasts a first prize of $12,970 (+VICGREYS Bonus). “There may still be some trainers out there with greyhounds suited to coursing that haven’t tried it yet. Copley’s Corner Out Of Range in the zone

Sniper strikes again By Andrew Copley

Out Of Range wins the McKenna Memorial over Neo Cleo (3) and Rockstar Patriot (2)

Sniper Strike winning at Sandown last Thursday night.

A slow start and early interference saw $2.00 favourite Tornado Tears trail by 10 lengths in the early stages of last Thursday night’s Group 2 McKenna Memorial (595m) at Sandown Park.

Sniper Strike made it four wins from as many starts – all at Sandown Park – with an impressive all the way win last Thursday night in a personal best 29.49sec.

The gun stayer was trumped by the Seona Thompson A 20-month-old son of Kinloch Brae and Zumba -trained Out Of Range ($11.90), who led all the way Queen, Snipe Striker is trained by Rick Lake, a to claim his third group win, which includes two diesel mechanic based in Traralgon. over the sprint journey. The brindle speedster has got quicker with every Neo Cleo (Robert Neocleous) was runner-up in the start, and ran a brilliant 5.07sec to the first mark in McKenna Memorial, beaten one length, with his most recent win over Seona Thompson-trained Rockstar Patriot (Andrea Dailly) third. duo Beckham and Star Reiko. Bred and owned in Langwarrin by father-son team Michael and Darren Puleio, Out Of Range claimed his 15th win from 35 starts, while the $40,000 first prize took his career earnings up to almost $300,000. Born on Christmas Day in 2015, the son of Fernando Bale and Nicki Fields is part of an outstanding litter that also includes Traralgon Cup winner, Poke The Bear.

“I grew up with Jason Thompson in Traralgon, and for Sniper Strike to beat home a couple of greyhounds who are trained by his wife, Seona, is pretty surreal,” said breeder/owner Darrin Lake, who is Rick’s uncle. Darrin hinted that Sniper Strike would head to The Meadows to race sometime in the near future before being set for a feature race.

The eight pups have combined for 250 starts and 91 wins at a winning strike rate of 36 per cent. Every member of the litter has won at least four races, while they have collectively won more than $650,000 in prize money.

Copley’s Corner Value in Maturity By Andrew Copley

Twelve heats of the Group 1 Maturity Classic were conducted at The Meadows last Saturday night, with Dyna Patty recording the quickest time of 29.73sec when defeating NSW star Ella Enchanted by just under a length. Four semi-finals will be run this Saturday night, with the winners and second placegetters to advance through to the $100,000 to-the-winner final on July 29. There appears to be plenty of value in the TAB market with Dyna Patty now a clear favourite at $6.00 to win the series, and she has the advantage of exiting box one in her semi-final. Next in betting is Aston Duke, Hasten Slowly, My Redeemer and Orson Allen, all at $8, while a host of highly talented speedsters are at $12 or better. For the full market go to tab.com.au/racing/meetings/ futures or you can google ‘The Watchdog’ for your FREE form guides and expert selections for all Victorian greyhound race meetings.

Greyhounds in the home Brierley Bailey Good morning everyone are you all ready for some cuteness overload on a beautiful Sunday morning. Please excuse the unmade bed but I’d like to introduce to you my beautiful foster dog Maple. Maple is a beautiful 4 year old girl and yes as you can see she is cat friendly. Maple biggest wish of all is that she gets a home with a greyhound brother or sister to keep her company on the couch. She is a beautiful smoochie girl who loves cuddles and loves cuddling up with her greyhound friends.

Greyhounds in the home FOSTER A GREYHOUND: There are many greyhounds who need a little more assistance to help them settle into pet life They fall into two categories Greyhounds who are transitioning from the track and need help to pass their GAP assessment OR Those dogs who have been a marginal fail at their GAP assessment These dogs are just gorgeous happy greyhounds, the only difference is that need a little more help to transition into pet life The reality is that without foster carers some of these dogs are at risk If you would like to change the life of beautiful dog contact Rebecca and join her team ____________________________________________
