Talking Breeding Talking Breeding Victoria

Victorian Metropolitan Sires List 2018

One Litter ONCE again, only the one litter on the Victorian Litter Registrations list, for the week ending 12 December 2018. Unfortunately for Pyarmid Hill breeder John Caulfield, who registered the litter it is only a small litter of three, all bitches. The well bred young bitches are by Victoria’s Iron Dog, Stagger, (August 2009 Primo Uno x Instructed First). Stagger is from a litter which included, Flossy, 9-1-3-0, Mario Chief, 123-26-37-16, Stagger Uno, 3-1-0-0 and Stomp Stomp, 61-8-6-13. His record shows she raced 137 times, for 64 wins and 38 placings, with stake earnings of $194,660. He won the Group 2 Warragul Cup and the Ballarat Derby, was a finalist in the 2011 and 2012 Group 2 Geelong Cup, 2012 and 2013 Horsham Cups, 2012 Bendigo Cup and the 2011 Warragul St. Leger. With a little more luck in running here and there his record could have read a lot better, but he certainly proved his consistency and has done well as a sire from limited opportunities. He has 146 named offspring on file, the best of which, according to greyhound-data.com are: Dalgetty (x Rockin’ Along), Black Mumbo (x My Path Princess), Wot Price Flash (x Hippy Chic), Belron Gus (x Belron Bonnie), Splash of White (x Little Mumma Hot), Runnin Royalty (x Deadly Prospect), Dance Craze (x Rockin’ Along), Liam (x Little Mumma Hot) Tree Climber Liv (x Hippy Chic) and Two Tone (x Rockin’ Along). John’s litter are from the well bred short course winner, Rebel Lady (April 2013 Kilty Lad x Phoenix Princess), whose dam is by Phoenix Ice* x Prize Princess (Solve The Puzzle x Princess Rema). She is from a litter of nine named, all winners, who raced 247 times, for 32 wins, 48 seconds and 36 thirds. Her record shows she had 38 starts, for six wins and 20 placings, winning four times over 410 metres at Shepparton (23.38), with single wins over 390 metres at Shepparton and 425 metres at Bendigo (23.75).

Fernando Bale

Victoria has a new premier Victorian Metropolitan Sire. Fernando Bale (March 2013 Kelsos Fusileer* x Chloe Allen) has scored a dominant win over 2017 top sire, Barcia Bale.

Because all of our records are still kept manually, full details of the result will not be available until next week’s edition, but we can give you the short results. Our results cover all meetings held at Sandown and The Meadows. 2018 Victorian Metropolitan Sires List. No. Sire

Copley’s Corner compiled by Gerard Guthrie Neo Cleo came out running and led Black Impala ($6.80), her Hume Cup conqueror, on the first turn. She broke clear down the back and kept going strongly Neo Cleo the pin-up girl in Sale Cup By Gerard Guthrie in the home straight to defeat the fast-finishing Dyna Chancer by 2.50 lengths in 37.19sec, with Myrniong Corner ($7.80) finishing third. *Andrew Copley is on leave

“I am so, so happy with what she has been able to achieve,” said a delighted Wendy Neocleous. “She has finally done it – got a Group 1 – and we couldn’t be happier. We are absolutely rapt. “We are very emotional about this win and we can’t thank the Sale Greyhound Racing Club enough for what they are able to put together. It is a great night to be a part of.

Blue Striker

“She has a big support system with her family and connections, who I know are stoked.” Neo Cleo has now won 26 of her 54 starts and while it was the slowest of her four straight victories at Sale, it was by far the most lucrative, with the $75,000 winner’s purse taking her earnings to within touching distance of $250,000.

Neo Cleo claimed a deserved Group race victory when leading all-the-way in the Sale Cup on Boxing Day Hometown star Neo Cleo claimed a deserved feature race breakthrough with a popular local victory in the Group 1 Gold 98.3 FM Sale Cup (650m) on Boxing Day. Trained, owned and bred by Wendy Neocleous at Hazelwood North, Neo Cleo had twice finished runnerup at Group level, in the Hume Cup and McKenna Memorial, beaten less than a length on both occasions, while she also ran sixth in the Sir John Dillon Memorial. A daughter of Cosmic Rumble and Ruby Ha Ha, Neo Cleo had won her previous three starts over Sale’s 650m course, winning heat and final of the Sale Distance Championship and then setting the pace in the Cup heats when clocking 36.87sec. Drawn in box six, Neo Cleo started an easing $2.70 favourite, ahead of Dyna Chancer at $4.50, with Neo Cleo’s litter brother and kennelmate, Blackjack Neo, on the third line of betting at $5.80 from box one. - 18 -

Send us your favourite Greyhound in the home pic! editor@vistoriangreyhoundweekly.com.au Noel McMahon (Admin) Warmer Weather Finally some warmer weather in Victoria. But irrespective of where you live be mindful when walking your greyhounds that they may take some time to adjust to the heat Greyhounds traditionally don’t like walking in temperatures above 25 degrees so:      

Ditch the coats Keep the walks shorter until they adjust Walk earlier in cooler temperatures Watch for signs of distress Keep your dogs hydrated and Make sure they have water immediately they get home And watch out for snakes in long grass because they are active. - 27 -
