Gerard Guthrie sight of Aston Kimetto as the Ballarat Cup was a virtual carbon copy of his Group 2 Geelong Gold Cup triumph, where he also exited box three and came from Aston Kimetto’s barnstorming Ballarat last to finish over the top of another Wheeler-raced triumph By Gerard Guthrie speedster in Orson Allen. “When Dyna Hunter was six in front I was thinking to myself that Dyna Hunter is not weak and I was hoping we could run second,” Borda said. “He’s a frustrating dog because he just can’t begin but he’s very smart in a field. “Ability wise he’s right up there with any dog I’ve owned but as far as being a race dog goes, it’s two Blue Striker different stories, and Aston Dee Bee had it all.” Aston Kimetto has now won 10 of his 19 starts and he’s remarkably undefeated in eight appearances on one-turn circuits, highlighted by a hat-trick of feature race successes in the Ballarat and Geelong Aston Kimetto powered hime to defeat Dyna Cups and Group 3 Warragul St. Leger. *Andrew Copley is on leave

Hunter in a thrilling finish to the Ballarat Cup

Powerhouse blue-blood Aston Kimetto enhanced his perfect record on one-turn tracks to eight from eight with a barnstorming victory in the Group 2 Ballarat Volkswagen Cup Final (450m) on Saturday night. A son of former champion stayer Sweet It Is, Aston Kimetto presented trainer Seona Thompson and owner Ray Bordawith back-to-back Ballarat Cup celebrations after the prolific combination reigned supreme with Melbourne Cup hero Aston Dee Bee in 2017. “I knew the dog was a good chance tonight because I wasn’t there,” Ray Borda laughed. “I’m at a 50th birthday in Adelaide and I’m going overseas tomorrow but I watched the race on my phone and I think I’m the happiest person at the party! “I’ve just spoken to Jason Thompson (Seona’s husband) from Dallas in the United States. It’s four o’clock in the morning over there.” Aston Kimetto was the joint fastest qualifier for the $47,000 to-the-winner Cup Final after a 24.96sec heat victory at his Ballarat debut and he was sent out the $4.30 second elect from box three, behind Brooke Ennis’ rails runner Belt Up Bubbs at $4.10. After a customary tardy getaway, Aston Kimetto was at the rear of the field as Dyna Hunter ($6.90) crossed to the lead and dashed clear. Dyna Hunter appeared to have the Cup in his keeping but Aston Kimetto stormed home – rekindling memories of his superstar dam Sweet It Is –as he bloused Dyna Hunter by .29 of a length in 24.94sec. The Wheeler family would be getting sick of the

Copley’s Corner Shima Breeze stellar in Laurels heats

Five times the charm for Hasten Slowly

By Jason Adams Pic - Jason Adams

South Australian visitor, Shima Breeze, pictured with trainer Tony Rasmussen after setting the pace in the Group 2 Laurels heats

South Australian sprinter Shima Breeze stole the show at Sandown Park this afternoon with the fastest Laurels heat win. She ran a quick 29.32 when defeating Flossing in the opening heat of the day. “I’m not surprised by the time, she trialed really well at Angle Park on Monday night,” said trainer Tony Rasmussen after the win. The sport’s most promising youngster Black Opium continued the amazing start to her career, as she claimed her heat in 29.45. It was her 9th win from 10 career starts with her only defeat coming in last month’s TAB Melbourne Cup final. Circle Of Dreams put the cherry on top of a memorable week for trainer Angela Langton, upstaging short priced favourite Federal Lilly. South Australian Oaks winner My American Girl was dominant in her heat and completed a successful day for trainer Andrew Paraskevas. He had two runners engaged at Healesville plus one at Sandown, and fortunately won them all. The powerful Sweet As Emm was terrific in the penultimate heat. She came from mid-field to run down the flying Time To Talk late. Often Imitated claimed the final heat of the day for young trainer Brad Greenough. Semi-finals of the time honoured Laurels will be conducted next Sunday.

By Molly Haines It was a case of fifth time lucky for Hasten Slowly who finally claimed his first Group 1 win in the Sky Racing Brisbane Cup at Albion Park on Thursday night. The son of Fernando Bale and Heidi Go Seek has finished second in four of his five Group 1 attempts which includes the Topgun, Winter Cup, Australian Cup and National Sprint. Hasten Slowly surprised everyone including owner, trainer and breeder Angela Langton when he jumped cleanly to the front in the Brisbane Cup from box three. “He was well drawn close to the fence,” Langton said. “He stumbled out of the boxes a bit last week and to win the Cup he needed to begin better and that is exactly he did.” “I was pleasantly surprised when he began so well, and I knew it would take a pretty good to run him down because he does have strength on his side.” Hasten Slowly paid a staggering $8.70 on the TAB tote – phenomenal, considering he claimed the Group 3 Flying Amy Classic at the track and distance in June. Victoria was heavily represented in the 2018 $75,000 to-the-winner, Sky Racing Brisbane Cup; Miss Splendamiro was the pre-race favourite from box two. The David Geall trained greyhound missed the start and couldn’t find the lead – finishing in third position. Dyna Chancer (box eight) for Correy Grenfell and Not Available (box five) for Robert Britton finished sixth and seventh respectively. The Brisbane Cup win was a special one for Langton who was born, raised and worked in Queensland before greyhound racing bought her to Victoria. “It is always special to win on your home track,” Langton said. “Extra special because we reared and raced his mother (Heidi Go Seek) and bred, reared and raced Hasten Slowly’s litter too.” It was a great night for the Fernando Bale x Heidi Go Seek litter, with litter sister Go Seek Heidi recording a victory at Sandown while litter brother Go Seek Fernando ran second.

GRV News National Greyhound Draft to revolutionise greyhound racing By David Brasch and Andrew Copley Sunday 16 December will herald a brand-new day for greyhound racing thanks to the unearthing of the world’s first National Greyhound Draft, to be aired live on Sky Racing from 10am. Greyhound Clubs Australia, with the support of Greyhound Syndicating Services, will conduct the inaugural Draft, an innovative concept that sees the formation of 10 syndicates racing three greyhounds each. The Draft will be broadcast nationally with unprecedented media exposure of greyhound syndication. Sandown Greyhound Racing Club CEO Greg Miller is the brains behind the Draft, and he has the support of some of the greatest trainers in the country, as well as media leaders and major owners. The National Greyhound Draft isn’t a money-making exercise, prompting outsiders to ask Greg what Sandown is getting out of it. “It was mentioned to me that surely this is not the role of a race club, but I, and the Sandown GRC, believe it surely is. We will do anything we can to help this industry prosper. We all need to see the bigger picture here. “The National Greyhound Draft is a world first, as an industry we should be proud of that,” he said. “The role of race clubs has changed, as has the participants. We need to grow our base and there is no better way than appealing to the next generation than through syndication. I applaud the Trainers and Owners who have taken on this responsibility and applied to contribute.”

Peter Cameron – Owner (WA) (Trainers: Angela Langton, Tony Brett & Andrew Crouch) James Van de Maat – Media (Radio RSN) (Trainers: Matt Lanigan, Brendan Pursell & Kate Gorman) Troy Little – Media (Radio SEN) (Trainers: Jason Sharp, Ian Garland & Glenn Rounds) Note: Trainers were selected by a panel of experts from around Australia comprising Luke Gatehouse (CEO Brisbane Club); Michael Floyd (Racing and Media Manager Sandown); Ellen Harris (Operations Manager NSW GBOTA) & David Simonette (Executive Officer Greyhound Clubs Australia)

How the draft will work Each syndicate’s Team Leader will draw their place in the draft and nominate the greyhound they wish to draft with each selection. The draft will be conducted as a Z formation draft. Selections for each team will be as follows: Team 1: 1, 20, 21; Team 2: 2, 19, 22; Team 3: 3, 18, 23; Team 4: 4, 17, 24; Team 5: 5, 16, 25; Team 6: 6, 15, 26; Team 7: 7, 14, 27; Team 8: 8, 13, 28; Team 9: 9, 12, 29; Team 10: 10, 11, 30. James Berkefeld Here is the Birthday girl! 9 years young for this fine lady. Our lives were changed for the better the moment Bek and I loaded her into the car just over 5 years ago. Daddy's princess is definitely the right moniker. She's worked out that the key is minimum activity and Daddy is the soft one .

Greyhounds in the home This is Nicky, our most recent foster girl who loves toys. She loves to collect them up and arrange them. We have to greyhounds of our own who play with toys, but not like her. Bob and Virginia Atkins

Noel McMahon (Admin) Warmer Weather Finally some warmer weather in Victoria. But irrespective of where you live be mindful when walking your greyhounds that they may take some time to adjust to the heat Greyhounds traditionally don’t like walking in temperatures above 25 degrees so:      

Ditch the coats Keep the walks shorter until they adjust Walk earlier in cooler temperatures Watch for signs of distress Keep your dogs hydrated and Make sure they have water immediately they get home And watch out for snakes in long grass because they are active. - 29 -

Greyhounds in the home FOSTER A GREYHOUND: There are many greyhounds who need a little more assistance to help them settle into pet life They fall into two categories Greyhounds who are transitioning from the track and need help to pass their GAP assessment OR Those dogs who have been a marginal fail at their GAP assessment These dogs are just gorgeous happy greyhounds, the only difference is that need a little more help to transition into pet life The reality is that without foster carers some of these dogs are at risk If you would like to change the life of beautiful dog contact Rebecca and join her team ____________________________________________
