The White Deer Community Park is hosting its 1st Annual Bigfoot & Bluegrass Festival on October 11, 2025, from 10 am to 6 pm. Although early in the planning process, this event is already showing signs of a fun-

filled, well-attended event. Currently we have three guest speakers specializing in all things “Bigfoot,” and we have a live band, for two performances. This event will feature several contests for the community to participate in including the Longest & Bushy Bigfoot Beard, Largest Foot (as compared to Bigfoot’s), and a Bigfoot Calling Contest. The Pennsylvania Bigfoot Project will be offering hands-on fun to teach children how to make plaster casings of Bigfoot prints. Along with all the Bigfoot fun, we are also offering a Craft/Vendor show with up to 75 vendors participating. Thus far, our reach for the craft/ vendor show has drawn and booked a vendor from near and far, with the furtherest coming from mid-state Ohio. We are anticipating a large and geographically diversified attending audience, as we are aware that our advertising efforts have reached into upper New York State, Ohio, New Jersey and Maryland. 10/6 Central PA Chapter, National Railway Historical Society. 49th Annual Train Show & Sale will be held Sunday, August 24, 2025, from 9 AM to 2 PM at Warrior Run Fire Department Social Hall, Second Street, Allenwood, PA (convenient to U.S. Route 15) air-conditioned and excellent lighting! People who are new to Medicare are invited to attend a “Get Ready for Medicare: The Basics for People Who Are Joining”, a free community workshop on July 18th from 10 am to 12 pm in the Northumberland Co. Human Services Building B, 322 N. 2nd St., Sunbury, PA. This event is sponsored by the Northumberland & Snyder/Union Co. PA MEDI programs in coordination with the Pa. Department of Aging. This workshop is specifically designed to assist people who will be enrolling in Medicare, either because they will turn 65 years old or because they receive Social Security disability benefits. The workshop is also appropriate for spouses and caregivers. Roughly 100,000 Pennsylvanians enroll in Medicare each year. Many struggle to make the right decisions about their coverage because they do not have clear information. The Medicare enrollment process is complex and there are key decisions that must be made according to strict deadlines. There are also programs available that can help Medicare enrollees save money. Beneficiaries are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to get information from highly trained people who will offer unbiased advice. To register, please call the Northumberland Co. PA MEDI Program at 570-495-2395.

Selecting the Right Windows for Your Home

(StatePoint) Don’t underestimate the power of windows to define your home’s character, style and comfort. Here’s your guide for selecting the right windows and customizing them to suit your needs:

Materials

VALLEY AUCTIONS VALLEY HEALTH

Ensure your window replacements offer impeccable performance. For example, Endure vinyl windows from ProVia are ENERGY STARcertified. The overall construction, including materials, frame design, and energyefficiency glass enhancements, produces a durable window that delivers year-round comfort and energy cost-savings. Vinyl windows as a rule are also low maintenance, and resistant to rotting, cracking, pitting, corroding and peeling.

If you prefer the classic beauty and elegance of wood, Aeris windows fit the bill. These wood-clad vinyl windows integrate real cherry, oak, or maple

wood interiors with maintenance-free vinyl exteriors, and are available in a wide array of gorgeous wood stains and paint colors.

Configuration

Different window types offer different effects and functionality. Here are the main types to consider:

Double hung windows move up and down and can be tilted inward for easy cleaning, making them a great choice for secondstory windows.

Sliding windows, a favorite of midcentury design, slide left and right and work well above kitchen sinks or in any room where ventilation is important.

Casement and awning windows are composed of a single sash that’s

hinged and cranks open and shut. Both are good choices for over cabinets, sinks and other features that can interfere with your ability to open or shut the window.

VALLEY AUCTIONS VALLEY HEALTH

Bay and bow windows beautifully draw attention to a home exterior. A great replacement for a set of double hung windows or a standard picture window, they look amazing and provide a great nook to read or just enjoy the view.

Picture windows are stationary and work well in areas where open windows would interfere with exterior landscaping or features like decks and walkways. Their big advantage is their ability to highlight beautiful outdoor scenery and provide abundant light.

Garden windows, hopper windows and shaped windows are additional choices that can provide a striking finishing touch on your home improvement project.

Colors and Hardware

Shop with manufacturers that offer color customization. From stunning all-matte black to warm ginger or caramel stain on oak, the possibilities to make an eyecatching statement in your home’s interior are endless. Likewise, you can hone in on the look you want with hardware. For example, you can use brass for a rich, antique look or opt for beige or sandstone to warm up the room.

assumption of clear glass, and this is a fine choice for many types of windows. However, you should be aware of additional options. Art glass and decorative glass can add instant curb appeal while increasing privacy, while tinted glass can protect your home’s interior from excess UV rays.

Another possibility you may not have considered is windows with internal blinds. ProVia’s internal blinds, for example, are made with sturdy aluminum and are custom fit to the exact dimensions of each window. The blinds can be lifted to let in maximum light or tilted to keep some light out while maintaining privacy. And perhaps most beneficially, they save you from the ongoing chore of cleaning dusty blinds.

options available, this upgrade can also amplify your home’s beauty and style,” says Julie Monroy, product manager, Windows & Vinyl Patio Doors, ProVia.

Fall 1991 and January 1992

Testimonials: My cousin and his new wife (both in their early 40’s) were visiting my mom, my sister, and I. My sister asks, “So, how did you meet?” They kind of giggled and asked each other, “Should we tell them?” They said they met through the LBYL column. My sister and I decided we would try our fare at meeting “Mr. Right”. (BTW, my cousin and his wife are still married and hopelessly in love.) My sister didn’t have much luck, but in January 1992, I saw this ad that kept drawing my attention. As described, he really wasn’t what I was looking for, but... We met later that month for the first time; got engaged in 1993 and married in 1994. We will celebrate our 25th anniversary this October and we have a 23-year-old daughter who lives out of state. Thank you, LBYL! Mr. & Mrs. J.N.

4/4/17

Testimonial: I placed an ad 1/2/94 and met the love of my life. He has 3 boys and I have 3 girls. We were married 8/26/95 and now we’re the Brady Bunch. Thanks for helping us find each other.

The second recipe is Reverse-Seared Smoked Ribeye Steak with Garlic and Herb Butter by Miguel Raya of Cooking with Fire.

Steaks:

• 1–2 thick-cut ribeye steaks

• Kosher salt

• Optional: garlic powder, rosemary, or your favorite beef rub

• High smoke point oil (beef tallow)

• Cast iron skillet or hot grill/griddle

Garlic + Herb Butter:

• 8 ounces unsalted butter

• 1 tablespoon minced garlic

• 1 teaspoon fresh parsley

• 1 teaspoon fresh thyme

• 1 teaspoon fresh chives

2. Using Bear Mountain BBQ’s Hickory pellets, preheat smoker to 250 degrees F (or 200 degrees for slower, more even cooking). Place steak on a wire rack over a baking sheet or grill grate. Cook until internal temperature reaches 115 degrees F for rare, 120 degrees F for medium-rare or 130 degrees F for medium. Use a probe or instantread thermometer (takes 30–45 minutes depending on thickness).

No matter what type of grill you have or what type of food you’re preparing, Bear Mountain BBQ offers a variety of hardwood flavors, and the brand is always expanding its lineup of wood pellet blends to cater to every kind of BBQ lover—from outdoor adventurers to backyard pit bosses. If you’ll be celebrating summer holidays grill-side, try the Red, White and BBQ blend, which unites the smooth balance of oak and the robust smokiness of hickory to enhance the flavor of BBQ favorites.

• 1 teaspoon fresh rosemary

Instructions:

3. Heat cast iron skillet over high heat until smoking hot. Add oil or beef tallow and steak. Sear for 45–60 seconds per side, pressing lightly for a good crust. Baste with butter, garlic and rosemary for extra flavor.

1. Remove steak from fridge 30 minutes before cooking. Season.

4. Let steak rest 10 minutes. Top with butter, then slice and serve.

Bear Mountain BBQ products are available online and in store at retailers nationwide. For recipes, grilling tips or to find a store near you, visit BearMountainBBQ. com.

“All we do is wood— and that focus is what makes our smoke flavor stand out,” says Bear Mountain’s Levi Strayer. “We’ve spent more than three decades perfecting how to turn highquality hardwood into the best fuel that delivers rich, consistent smoke. That means grillers get nothing but the best wood flavor, every single time.”
