The White Deer Community Park is hosting its 1st Annual Bigfoot & Bluegrass Festival on October 11, 2025, from 10 am to 6 pm.
Although early in the planning process, this event is already showing signs of a fun-filled, well-attended event. Currently we have three guest speakers specializing in all things “Bigfoot,” and we have a live band, for two performances. This event will feature several contests for the community to participate in including the Longest & Bushy Bigfoot Beard, Largest Foot (as compared to Bigfoot’s), and a Bigfoot Calling Contest. The Pennsylvania Bigfoot Project will be offering hands-on fun to teach children how to make plaster casings of Bigfoot prints. Along with all the Bigfoot fun, we are also offering a Craft/ Vendor show with up to 75 vendors participating. Thus far, our reach for the craft/vendor show has drawn and booked a vendor from near and far, with the furtherest coming from mid-state Ohio. We are anticipating a large and geographically diversified attending audience, as we are aware that our advertising efforts have reached into upper New York State, Ohio, New Jersey and Maryland. 10/6 Community Theatre League enters its 49th season with a slate of powerhouse productions offering something

Bringing the iconic Queens to life are six powerhouse local teens: Catherine of Aragon - Jayda Rodriguez Anne Boleyn - Delaney Bottorf Jane Seymore - Marley Naugle Anna of Cleves - MakaylaFlournoy-Brown Katherine Howard - Grey Jenkins Catherine Parr - Jaslin ShaThe show’s staff is comprised of Director, Rubie Natal; Music Director, Brandy Aguirre; Choreographer, Maia Cenimo.October ushers in what CTL is calling its “spooky season.First up is the evocative musical thriller Jekyll & Hyde The Musical (October 10-19), the story of one man with two souls and the devastating consequences of his experiments with good and evil. To close out the month, audiences can experience Poe’s Midnight Dreary (October 30-31), a limited engagement production that brings Edgar Allan Poe’s most haunting works tolife on stage, including The Raven, The Tell-Tale Heart, and the Fall of the House of Usher. Together these two productions set the perfect mood for autumn with a double dose of suspense and atmosphere. 10/27

SKYLER SAUFLEY TO PLAY BILLTOWN, FRIDAY OCTOBER 17th
Skyler Saufley aptly qualifies for the cliché “a young body with an old soul.” This quote from Creative Loafing says it best: “Most youngsters bitten by the blues bug gravitate toward a more electrified style of blues rock, epitomized by screaming guitars and roof-rattling volume. But Saufley looks to an earlier era in the genre—one dominated by the raucous jump blues of T-Bone Walker, Pee Wee Crayton, and Goree Carter.”
The fact that Skyler’s influences stem from the early masters of the genre is not to say his shows are not filled with highenergy and charismatic displays of his music and personality. His shows are just plain fun and memorable. As The Local, based in Columbus, Georgia, says: “After watching Skyler take command of the room with a well-polished performance, I felt as if all of us present were thinking the same thing: He’s a star.”
When still in his 20s, Skyler was inducted into the Alabama Blues Hall of Fame. Saufley and his band, are actively touring nonstop nationally and internationally. Skyler was selected to participate in the Memphis-based International Blues Challenge, generating his first notice by industry personnel, who latched on with interest coast to coast.
In Shannon Marie Tovey’s extensive interview for Arts Atlanta, she dove into Skyler’s early years that set him on his path. He first heard Elvis when he was 12 and was drawn to Scotty Moore’s guitar playing, thinking “this sounds like fun!” He did not know at the time that Elvis was taught by and heavily influenced by the blues. Soon after, Skyler found Muddy Waters
and was hooked: “This is what I want to do!” His parents were not at all hip to this idea, so he saved up and bought his first guitar from Toys“R”Us.
As Skyler began developing his own style, he knew he wanted to stay close to the true meaning of the early blues. He wanted the essence of the feeling and purpose to be evident, not lost in too many notes or high volume. He wanted to remain authentic in his style and delivery. When covering another
artist’s music, he has said, “I always try to keep it respectful. I’ll change it to fit my style, but I always picture the guy that recorded the song or wrote it — if they were listening to me tonight playing the song, would they think that was cool, or would they think I ruined their song?”
As a performer, he doesn’t fake it … he can’t. As he has said, “You can tell when somebody’s up there and they’re just loving it. It’s just what they do, and they’re having a ball.” That was the kind of performer he vowed to be.
Skyler Saufley and his band are set to perform on Friday night, October 17th, at the SideBar, 345 Market Street, Williamsport. Showtime is 7 pm. Doors open at 6:30 pm. Tickets are now on sale through our online service, Event Brite, https://SkylerSaufley.eventbrite. com. Walk-up sales are available at the Community Arts Center in Williamsport during business hours and by appointment in Lewisburg by calling Teri MacBride at 570-309-7953.

How Support and Connection Can Improve Mental Health as You Age
(StatePoint) Mental health issues, such as stress, anxiety and depression, are common among older adults, and can be exacerbated by declining health, loss of loved ones, financial challenges and late-in-life regrets.
Unfortunately, these issues can impact overall health, quality of life, and in some cases, even be life-threatening. The suicide rate among Americans aged 75 and older is the highest of any age group, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
If you’re an older adult, Dr. Zia Wahid, medical director with Cigna’s Medicare business, encourages you to take the following actions:
Nurture relationships: Research has found that loneliness can have negative health consequences as impactful as smoking 15 cigarettes a day. That’s why finding connection is essential. Check with your local community center to find out what activities, classes and social events they offer. Faith-based organizations, neighborhood gatherings, and clubs based on common interests are also great ways to meet people and stay engaged. A simple phone call with a loved one is often enough to strengthen bonds, and emotional resilience.
Get moving: Physical activity can improve strength and agility as you age. It can also be a powerful way to boost your mood and ease anxiety and depression. From chair yoga to water aerobics, there are forms of exercise appropriate for every ability and age, and free or inexpensive classes offered in many communities. Your Medicare Advantage (MA) plan may also offer fitness benefits that can help you move more and stay connected. Group fitness not your thing? Consider just getting outdoors for a short walk and a dose of sunshine.
Avoid substance misuse: Substance use disorder is common among older adults, and can intensify mental health challenges. One in 11 adults over age 60 had a substance use disorder in 2022, and that number is on the
rise, according to the American Psychological Association. Check your Medicare plan. It may cover treatment for alcoholism and substance use in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
Schedule a doctor’s visit: Mental health, just like physical health, requires your attention and care. If you’re experiencing mental health concerns, schedule a doctor’s appointment. They can refer you to a psychologist, psychiatrist or clinical social worker, or provide additional advice and resources.
Get it off your chest: Talking about your feelings with friends, family, or even a trained professional can be helpful. Medicare covers individual and group therapy with doctors or licensed clinicians, and some of these services are offered virtually.
Consider medication: Antidepressants, antianxiety medications, antipsychotics and mood stabilizers, can be effective treatments for certain mental health conditions. A Part D plan – either standalone or within an MA plan – covers many of these prescriptions.
Before starting a new medication, be sure to talk to your doctor about possible side effects and interactions with drugs you’re currently taking.
Don’t wait: If you or someone you know is experiencing a mental health crisis, immediately call or text the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline at 988 to reach a trained crisis counselor. This free, confidential service is available 24/7 nationwide in both English and Spanish.
For more information about Medicare benefits and mental health, visit cignamedicareinformation.com.
“Depression and other mental health concerns don’t have to be part of aging. Treating these conditions can put you on the path toward a more fulfilling life, so that you can enjoy this chapter of life with confidence and joy,” says Dr. Wahid.
