American Legion riders were formed: To participate in parades and ceremonies that are helping with the aims and purpose of the American Legion. To promote motorcycle safety programs and to provide a social atmosphere for American Legion Members who share the same interest, to use our association to promote and support programs of the American Legion. We are not a motorcycle club and do not practice motorcycle club rules or regulations. The American Legion Riders are family oriented just as its parent organization, the American Legion. APPRISE is the State Health Insurance Assistance Program, which provides detailed counseling for people with Medicare residing in Pennsylvania. The Northumberland County APPRISE program offers appointments in the following locations monthly: Monday’s & Friday’s – Milton Senior Action Center, 219A Filbert Street, Milton. 2nd & 4th Tuesday – Mount Carmel Senior Action Center, 41 S. Market Street, Mount Carmel.

The workshop is also appropriate for spouses and caregivers. Roughly 100,000 Pennsylvanians enroll in Medicare each year.

Many struggle to make the right decisions about their coverage because they do not have clear information.

The Medicare enrollment process is complex and there are key decisions that must be made according to strict deadlines. There are also programs available that can help Medicare enrollees save money. Beneficiaries are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to get information from highly trained people who will offer unbiased advice. To register, please call 570495-2384. Experimental Video Show- The Exchange Gallery invited experimental video artists to submit short videos for our second video screening. This video exhibition will showcase 80 works from juried artists chosen from across the globe. This show will run alongside an exhibition by 2-D digital artist Glen Klein. Throughout the length of the show, the videos will loop on monitors in the Exchange Art Gallery. Bloomsburg November 1-February 24: Surrealism Exhibit at the Milton Art Bank: SURREALISM, an exhibit of European and American Surrealist works from private collections, will be on display as well as a Surrealist Kunstkabinnett filled with curiosities and antiques from around the world. Uptown Music Collective kicks off performance season with a tribute to 1970’s Arena Rock Bands of the Uptown Music Collective will celebrate the school’s 30th Major Performance, by paying tribute to the big hair, big voices, and really big guitars of the style known as “Anthem Rock”, “Dad Rock”, “Corporate Rock”, or most commonly “Arena Rock”. Boston, Kansas, Styx, Journey, and Foreigner, brought to the stage as only the energetic and talented students of the Uptown Music Collective can. This show is sponsored in part by Fairfield Auto Group & PPL Electric Utilities.

Growing out of rock groups of the mid-1970’s who were creating material inherently designed for large audiences, arena rock was commercially oriented, radio-friendly and often highly-produced music. Emphasizing powerful dramatic songs with melodic choruses that would become rock anthems, and slower “power” ballads with soaring guitar solos, and big vocals.

Classic examples of the power of this music would be the Kansas hit Carry On Wayward Son, or the Styx classic Come Sail Away. Their big choruses, heavy guitars, and commercial success would be echoed by bands like Journey and Foreigner later in the decade. Of course, the quintessential arena rock band would have to be the band Boston. Their first album was released in August of 1976, and featured the hit songs More Than a Feeling, and later Long Time, although nearly the entire album still

The Lewisburg Neighborhoods Corporation will hold a River Town Public Planning Meeting on Wednesday, November 14, from 6 to 8pm at the William Cameron Engine Company Training Facility (at 5th and Buffalo Rd). Please join us for pizza and planning that evening.

The public is invited to participate in this close look at the potential of the publicly owned land along waterways in Lewisburg Borough. As with all River Town Team activities, this event is open to anyone with an interest in the community’s connection to the Susquehanna, whether or not they are residents or property owners in the Borough.

The Lewisburg River Town Team began in 2014 as a col-

laboration between the Borough, the Lewisburg Neighborhoods Corporation, and the Lewisburg Downtown Partnership, all working closely with the Susquehanna Greenway Partnership. A kick-off public meeting that fall established the priorities for the group: events, conservation, planning, and connectivity. In the years since then, the Walk It! Bike It! Alexandria Chomyn is a fourth year Landscape Architecture student at Penn State and she is working on rendering the sketch plans created after the last public design workshop in spring of 2016. We were able to get her assistance thanks to a grant from the Foundation for Pennsylvania Watersheds. In addition to that design work, we are also working with Ainslie Eck, a Bucknell senior studying Anthropology and Environmental Studies. She is working on collecting oral histories related to the impacts of flooding in Lewisburg. If you or someone you know has a story that should be recorded, please contact Ainslie at ase008@bucknell.edu or 781-812-6003. The major focus is on the 1972 flood, though if you know anyone with a memory of the 1936 flood, that would be great. Also people who were acutely impacted by any of the flash flooding along Bull Run in recent decades should feel free to reach out. This might also include people in industries like construction, banking, or insurance who can report on local changes in response to flooding over time affecting their business and outlook. You can contact Ainslie at any time, but she will also be at the meeting on the 14th if you want to check in about whether and when to submit your account. In addition to the interviews, we are also interested in collecting other documentation from past floods, such as photographs and films. The 50th anniversary of the 1972 flood will be coming up in a couple years and it would be a good idea to try to pull these materials together in advance of that milestone.

This upcoming planning meeting will look at public sites as diverse as Wolfe Field (along Buffalo Creek), the Community Garden, Soldiers Memorial Park, Mariah’s Garden, Lewisburg Landing (including the St George St boat ramp), as well as referencing private sites like the River Walk south of St George St and the Bucknell Landing. It will seek to make sure we have all the best ideas pulled together especially in light of recent and evolving developments like the County Trail Authority taking over the Buffalo Valley Rail Trail and the construction of the Central Susquehanna Valley Throughway. We will work together to establish priorities and a critical path for the process moving forward.

The 35-minute documentary is a joint product of award winning director Irene Taylor Brodsky and audiologist Jane Madell, Ph. D. Dr. Madell is the former director of the Beth Israel/New York Eye and Ear Hearing and Learning Center and clinical professor at both New York Medical Center and Albert Einstein Medical College. Many of the 20 to 30-year old adults who appear in the film were first identified by her as deaf when they were infants.

As D. Madell says, “See what is possible for deaf children and adults with today’s technology, and listen to what they have to say.”
