Every patient in our area miss potentially lifesaving cancer treatment because they are too ill to drive themselves and are unable to find a ride. Ufn Now-March 3: The Penn State Extension Master Gardener program provides interested individuals with extensive training in many phases of gardening. In return, participants volunteer to teach horticultural infor-mation to the public based on university research and recommendations. Participants meet weekly on Thurs-day evenings in Mifflinburg from 6-9pm, from October 3rd to March 3rd (with breaks for academic and religious holidays). Penn State Professors, Extension Educators, and Master Gardeners present on specific topics, in-cluding vegetable gardening, native plants, grass and lawn care, fruit trees and much more. The fee for the Penn State Extension Master Gardener Basic Training is $200, and includes a copy of the award-winning Penn State Master Gardener Manual.

Not only did I learn new things about topics I thought I knew well, but I also learned about horticultural areas of interest I had yet to explore. We began the course with a solid plant biology lesson, which was the framework for the remain-der of our studies. I especially enjoyed the classes on fruit trees, ornamental plants/landscaping, and indoor plants. Besides the classroom knowledge, I encountered a wide network of professional educators and learned of many online and print resources.” says Jen Schneidman
