Stradbroke Village Services in Discussion Dear Residents Most of you will have heard about the New Strategic Direction announced by Suffolk County Council but wondered what it might mean for us in the Village. To be better informed the Parish Council has opened discussions with the County Council particularly in respect of the Library and the Courthouse. From the reports in the press and from information provided by our County Councillor we concluded that the future of the Library and possibly the building could be in some doubt. From our discussions to date it seems that SCC is looking for the parish to become involved supporting the Library and the Courthouse. This will clearly have a financial implication for the parish and therefore how much is raised through the precept. At the moment there is little indication of how much this might be and our discussions are continuing. I will write again when more information is available but be assured that the Parish Council will do everything possible to retain the current level of services in the village. If you have any views on this topic we would be pleased to hear them. Talk to any Parish Councillor or contact the Clerk: Carol Smy on 01379 384679, e-mail at clerkspc@thesmys.com or in writing at 1 Felix Cottages, Athelington Road, Horham IP21 5EG. Ann Kerr - Chairman Stradbroke Parish Council

Stradbroke Christmas Walks Walk 1. A Guided Christmas Walk of about 3 miles by Torchlight Wednesday December 22nd at 7.30 p.m. from the Community Centre. See what our footpaths out to Battlesea Green and back are like in the dark! When we get to Battlesea Hall there will be a welcoming glass of Christmas Cheer and mince pies, courtesy of Adrian & Patricia Lawson. There should be nearly a full moon and if we are lucky we can hope for a delightful walk on frosty moonlit night. Do bring a torch and it is a good idea to wear boots. Walk 2. A Circular Walk of 5 to 6 miles Monday 27th December at 10.00 a.m. starting from the Community Centre. Walk off all those Christmas meals with our traditional circular walk via Thorpe Hall, Horham and Wootton Green and finishing down Drapers Hill. Boots are strongly advised. There is no need to book, just come along and do bring any guests you have staying with you. Gerald Jenkins (385825) Footpath Warden
