DANCE The Dance Department is Back!

The Dance Department is thrilled to be back in the studio, socially distanced of course. We are looking forward to these two weeks and hope to make the most of it before the Easter holidays. We plan to use these two weeks to regain our strength lost over this lockdown and remain hopeful for a dance showcase in the summer term.

The dancers are extremely grateful to have ordered some...

NEW DANCE EQUIPMENT

to arrive before the holidays. This shall enhance the training provided here at Eastbourne College, and overall improve our technique in all aspects of dance. We have ordered some yoga blocks, balance balls and resistance bands of all which will be used to stretch and strengthen our muscles, assist with posture, posture, balance and alignment for our pirouette. We are so happy to be back and make use of the studio and enjoy the company of all these passionate dancers.

As we return, we plan to safely include all the dancers in classes available to widen the variety of dance styles. We are fortunate enough to have Miss Lister, who has been teaching online over lockdown, to continue to share her wealth of knowledge with the students. Miss Lister offers jazz technique and commercial classes as well as all styles of Hip Hop on a Thursday afternoon. Miss Lister’s focus in these lessons is to prepare the students for the industry in which they hope to work later in life. With Miss Reid we are working towards our intermediate modern exam, which demands much hard training with long hours of practice to make perfect. This qualification is highly recognised by the dance examination boards and will give the dancers UCAS points needed for future purposes. This is a beneficial exam which can be kept with the dancers as a qualification until later life.

The Dance Department have also been progressing with Millie White (Year 12, Watt house) and working with her to help with her Arts Award Leadership project entitled

‘THE SOFA DANCE’

This part of the course shows leadership qualities in organising something to do with the arts. The senior dancers have been helping by choreographing there own pieces as inspiration. This will help the younger years to show them what is required of them. We have extended the deadline for this project, as we wanted to get as many people involved as possible, and ensure the greatest outcome is available. If you would like to get involved, please message Millie White.
