SMOKESCREEN PRODUCTIONS

Shell Shock is a stunning play that explores the personal realisation of one soldier’s experience of learning to cope with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. After serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, Tommy Atkins’ observations on the absurdities of every-day life on civvy street are frequently comic, occasionally absurd, sometimes violent but always poignant. His wired energy leads to hyper-emotional responses, from post office queues and a trip to Ikea, to his relationships with family and friends, resulting in alienation and anger. DR SUZANNAH LIPSCOMB: THE SIX WIVES OF HENRY VIII

We are delighted that award-winning academic, author, historian and broadcaster Dr Suzannah Lipscomb will be at The Spring this season to lead us through the dramatic events of The Six Wives of Henry VIII. Henry VIII’s six wives were not just wives. They all had a life before Henry and, in some cases, a life after him: three survived their marriages to Henry; the other three died, directly or indirectly, as a result of being married to England’s Renaissance tyrant. Among them were formidable women: the redoubtable Katherine of Aragon, the vivacious and headstrong Anne Boleyn, the resolute Anne of Cleves, the strong

10

BOX OFFICE 023 9247 2700

and literary Kathryn Parr. Even those who, at first sight, seem less interesting – like Jane Seymour – had a certain fire and conviction, whilst, if the young Katherine Howard was foolish, she was also vulnerable and abused. These are the women who shaped Henry VIII and, in so doing, shaped England. Their stories – including fresh, illuminating evidence about their lives – deserve to be told anew. In 2016, Suzannah co-wrote and co-presented Channel 5 series Henry VIII and His Six Wives with fellow historian Dan Jones. TICKETS: £16, £14.40 concessions
