Editors Letter Wow I can’t believe it, we are into May already. I have had such an exciting past month putting this issue together. Now I can’t wait to tell you all about it! This issue is my biggest! This month has two gig reviews.... YES two!! I was lucky enough to be Guestlisted for Haddow Fest at the HMV Picture house in Edinburgh. Where I met Daryl (lead singer) and Darek (lead guitar and backing vocals) of “Everyday at 10” such nice guys. I was also at Sucioperro gig at sneaky Pete’s in Edinburgh, I was at sneaky Pete’s to review “he slept on 57”. Also supporting them was “Aviation For Kids”, who you may also remember supported “penguins kill polar bears” in the April issue. I met Stuart from “he slept on 57”. He was very nice also, I bought a copy of their new EP. Stuart also threw in a copy of the other EP for free!!! Both gigs where very different both in venue & style.

I have found a New Band by the name of “Everyday at 10”, a 5 piece pop/rock band also from Edinburgh. It’s nice to find musical talent from my city. I have reviewed another EP by “solo star” Alice Ai! “Always Read The Label” have just released a brand new single “Influence” with their new line-up, I got to write the first review. Rather exciting don’t you think? Lots has been happening, I am pleased to say the next few issues have more exciting content than ever. So stay tuned....You don’t want to miss it!

Live and Unsigned - Inse

hey its Aaron here, and here is my entry for the live and unsigned diary and everything that went down...

13th March 2011

well we got to the journal tyne theatre at about 1 in the afternoon and signed in then, havin a couple hours to spare before soundchecks, we headed off to Mcdonalds for a nice hearty if a lil unhealthy dinner/lunch. once we were inside the venue we were briefed as to how the whole thing was going down, then we sound checked. we weren’t to keen on sound and volume but we got through

ert’s diary (part 2) and I personally was hoping for the best lol then it was off to the dressing rooms to wait until it was time to go "do this!" as it were. the song we did for our performance was our own song My Halluncination blended into our own version of Dolly Parton's Jolene, overall the performance was well received despite our playing a little fast and one or two muck-ups behind the kit, BLOODY DRUMMERS! But we must have done something right as we made it through to the Area Finals on the 24th of April, so until then that’s HOW! For now....

Check ya later folks Aaron =]

to be continued...

getting to play your songs to new crowds of people and seeing new places. Its always also just really good fun to get to go to all these different places with four of your best mates. The worst part is definitely the travelling in between gigs but that ’s part and parcel of being in a band. Hopefully in the near future well start work on our first album and doing more touring round the

Do you play your own music or do you have a band? At present I mostly perform solo, though sometimes I have ot her players perform with me. I write, record, perform my own music, and sound-design all my live shows. When is your next tour? This summer, to Canada... (Final dates tbc) What band are you a big fan of? Again, so many great bands, though for modern classic I’d say RHCP, Radio head, & one newer band I really like is MGMT. Do you get compared to any other artists? Not so much to be honest, though when people feel a need to compare for reference I have heard names like Bjork, Feist & Imogen Heap bandied about.

If yo u r l i fe wa s a song , what would it be & w hy ? Wow, t h at ’s an ex tremely tough on e . I d o n ’t k n ow a bout my whole life, that wo u l d p ro b a b l y d epend on what kind of mo o d I wa s i n . I ’d maybe go for something like ‘ T h re e H a i l Mar ys’ by Reuben. The lyr i c s a re g re at , and there’s so many sec t i o n s to i t - t here’s no conventional str u c t u re . I t ’s a l l over the place, up and dow n , q u i et a n d l oud, kinda like my life! Plu s i t ’s go t a p retty filthy bass tone. And the re i s at l ea st o ne rather meaty riff, my life wo u l d n ’t b e t h e same without a heav y do s e o f go o d r i ffa ge.

Do you have a Celeb crush? Many. Li l y L ove l es s from the last series of Skins is a p e rs o n a l fav. Reese Witherspoon, Frankie S a n d fo rd , Hayden Panettiere and Davina McC a l l .

Do you have a girlfriend? No, i ’m a s i n g l e pringle.

What ’s the 1st song on your iPo d ? D o yo u mean alphabetically? That would b e ‘A b o u t Last Night by The Mascara Stor y ’. T h e f i rst when I shuffle the all songs com e s u p a s ‘Beautiful Dreams by Jocasta Sleeps ’. W h at a gem! Favorite CD you own? I have n u m ero u s Biff y Clyro CD ’s signed including a co py o f Blackened Sky. My favourite of thes e h owever is a copy of Saturday Superhouse in w h i c h B e n Johnston signed ‘Cheers Cocknose , B en ’. I t ’s always the simple jokes that get m e !

A ve r y l o n g time ago! I used to a lways mim e a l o n g to m u sic I was listening to since I wa s l i ke 2 o r s o mething. I guess from when I go t a g u i ta r I sta rted writing music is when I kn ew t h i s i s w h at I wanted to do, which was abo u t 1 1 - 1 2 yea rs old. Did yo u st u d y m u sic? If so where? Yes. UWS in Ay r. I st u d i e d Commercial Music - which com b i n ed t h e b u s iness and creative sides of mu s i c . I t ’s w h ere I met Garr y (drums) and Rob i ( g u i ta r / vo ca l s). Iain (bass) did a similar cou rs e at a n o t h er campus but had a few cla s s es w i t h u s i n Ayr. Strangely it wasn’t until we we re f i n i s h i n g our respective degrees that we sta r ted t h e b a nd! Wh i c h a r t i st wo u ld you like to collaborate wit h ? Th at i s s u c h a tough choice. I mean the re’s s o m a ny l e gends that I could only dream

How do you relax w h e n yo u ’re not performing? No r m a l l y with video games o r s p o r t s . Nothing beats a go o d c i n em a night - though they a re gett i n g bloody expensive t h e s e d ays don’t you think? Which instrument d o yo u w i s h you could play? D r u m s . I t ’s strange, being a g u i ta r i st I find myself ‘air-dru m m i n g ’ to new songs I hear, ve r y st ra n ge. Though when ever I get b eh i n d the kit it is painful to a ny a n d ever yone near by! I f I h a d t h e time

Our nex t tour is rumoured to b e i n June ;) and tickets are readily avai l a b l e f ro m the band members or at later not i c e f ro m a quick search via google. Where are you most excited about p l ay i n g o n the next tour? I would like to see o u r m u s i c venture North Bound. As a Skye bo i I ’d l i ke to see our sound plague sea goers an d ( h i g h / i s ) landers alike. Funniest on stage moment so far ? Po s s i b l y playing an intro to a different song . What ’s your Guilty pleasure? That wo u l d b e telling , but it feels pretty good.

A l i c e Ai - Eye S p i ral “EP Review”

Alice Ai is des t i n e d t o c o n q u e r t h e pop world! I f Y o u l i k e P i x i e L o t t t oday, or eve n r e m e m b e r B j o r k o r Gwen Stefani w h e n s h e w a s w i t h “no Doubt”, th e n I i n t r o d u c e A l i c e Ai’s new EP “E y e s p i r a l ” . H e r m u s i c has a quirky se n s u a l i t y w h i c h s e e m s t o transcend t i m e a n d s p a c e a n d a f ashion style t o m a t c h . I t w o r k s a s well today for A l i c e A i a s i t d i d i n t he 90’s for Bjo r k a n d N o D o u b t . Tr a c k 1 – G o t T he Stuff F o l l o w i n g a s hort intro with shaking sl e i g h b e l l s and clapping Alice’s g r a v el r i c h v o i ce enlightens this track. H e r s e n s u a l l y erotic voice pulsates a n d g r i n d s i t s way through the track, a b l y s u p p o r t e d by deep breathin g. It a l l s o u n d s h o t n’ steamy. I’ve got the st u f f t o l o v e y ou! Boom Boom Boom fr o m h e a v e n s above! Like some worm fr o m T r e m o r s 4 ! All appear to suggest m o r e t h a n l o v e is on her mind. Tr a c k 2 – P r i n c es Avenue Th e o p e n i n g t o this track reminded me o f a n o l d s i l e n t black and white movie. Th e s y n t h e s i s e d piano gives it a very c l a s s y f e e l . Again, like the previous tr a c k s , A l i c e ’ s voice stole the show w i t h a m i x t u r e of angelic overtones a n d h a u n t i n g echoes. Go on, close y o u r e y e s , a n d don’t tell me you don’t g e t a l l w a r m a nd fuzzy inside. A truly e p i c s i l e n t m o vie production!

Track 4 – Tell Me Now “Tell Me Now” is a little bit o f a m i x of “Princes Avenue” and “Q u e s t i o n Mark”. It combines some o f t h e haunting sounds of “Princes A v e n u e ” with lyrics which are someti m e a n d somewhat confusing, a bit l i k e , b u t nowhere near as much as “Q u e s t i o n Mark”. Track 5 – Got The Stuff (Stoney R e m i x ) This remix, more grungy th a n t h e original from the start, cymb a l s a n d drum beats now replace th e b e l l s and clapping. The whole tra c k n o w musically heavier, but Alice ’ s v o i c e is still the star of the show. T h i s t i m e though, it is more absorbed i n t o t h e medley of the track. With the a d d e d bonus of 43 seconds play-ti m e i t i s clearly better than the origi n a l , j u s t because there is even more to e n j o y ! ! ! ! She may not be mainstream p o p a n d some people won’t get it, bu t I t h i n k Alice Ai is fantastic!!! for more News from Alice Ai please visit

the EP will be released later i n M a y news on this visit facebook, M y S p a c e & the website!

Tr a c k 3 – Q u e s tion Mark Th i s t r a c k i s so different, infact it’s st r a n g e , v e r y s trange! It is much faster a n d t h e l y r i c s are, well strange. It is h o w e v e r , p u r e dead brilliant, just what d o y o u t h i n k a question mark is? My o n l y f e a r i s t hat some people won’t get it!!!

With the lineup complete, the band began playing around the toilet circuit of Glasgow, in the youth-centres and public halls of the surrounding areas and even a handful of self-promoted shows around the Highlands of Scotland. After roughly a year of perfecting their live performance, the group decided it was time to begin creating music as a band, as the sound they ha d worked on for the past year had began to naturally mature and stray away from that of Kevin’s solo project. The band recorded their debut EP, Pick Your Side, over the summer of 2009 which featured the title track Pick Your Side and the single We’ll Always Be Famous For Our Big gest Failures, which found its way to hands of a producer at Clyde 1 FM who gave the song its first ever play on national

Exciting times lie ahead for the young band who announced their first full UK tour at the start of 2011. The band will hit the road in May with Birmingham based indie-rockers, Page 44 and will play a number of dates across the UK in cities they have yet visit. MakethisRelate was recently featured in the Local Heroes sections o f an issue of Kerrang! Magazine (the world’s big gest selling weekly rock magazine) and it was tipped by the Metro at the beginning of 2011. Their music will also be heading over the Atlantic where it will be appearing on American record label, All About Records, download compilation. The compilation will be available at a number of American music festivals including this year ’s Warped Tour – the huge North American music festival which is now in its 17th year. In addition, the band are currently tr ying to confirm a few other tours to see them through to the end of year and they are planning to release some new material over the coming months. It is still early days for this enthusiastic young band. They may have made a few mistakes along the way, but perhaps it is the best that

W hat a re yo u u p to at t h e moment ? We ’re ver y busy pre p a r i n g fo r o u r UK tour. Fo r t h e p a st few months we have b e en t rave l l ing up and dow n t h e U K , t r y i ng to spread the wo rd a b o u t our music and i t s e em s to be working! We ’re a l s o s p e n ding a lot of t i m e w r i t i n g new songs. It ’s exc i t i n g to h e ar how our sou n d i s d eve l o p i ng.

How di d yo u get i nto t h e music i n d u st r y ? Music has always b e en a b ig part of ou r l i ves . We ’ve a ll played in ban d s s i n c e we we re all pretty yo u n g , s o i t h a s b een a fairly nat u ra l p ro g re s s ion. Also, stu d y i n g s o u n d production and co m m erc i a l music has rea l l y g i ve n u s a good insight into h ow t h e m u sic industr y wo r ks .

W ho we re yo u r favo u r i te bands g row i n g up? Pers o n a l l y, I l oved listening to b a n d s l i ke Green Day, Nir va n a a n d B l i n k-182. The first few s o n g s I remember be i n g a b l e to p l ay on guitar were B a s ket C a s e by Green Day a n d I n B l o o m by Nir vana. I wa s rea l l y i nto pop-punk and I st i l l a m !

W ho w h e re yo u r Childho o d m u s i c i d o l ’s ? I love d t h e S p i c e G irls when I wa s a k i d h a h a ! I t h ink the fi rst cas s ette I ow n e d was a Spice Gir l s s i n g l e . . . b a d times. In cont ra st t h o u g h , I loved Bon Jov i . I rem e m b e r l istening to Cro s s Ro a d , w h i c h was like a g reatest h i t s album, and rea d i n g t h ro u g h t he lyrics at the s a m e t i m e . That album wa s p ro b a b l y t h e first rock alb u m I ever l i ste ned too.

W h at age did you each d e c i d e music was going to b e your career? Well music had always been such an integral part of our lives, so when it came to leaving school and deciding what to do nex t, we choose music. However it ’s always our dream to play in a band and make music. If we manage to make a career out of it, we’ll be ver y lucky indeed.

C a n you describe your early experiences of g i g g i n g and working on yo u r f irst EP? Our first few gigs were pretty bad. The first time we ever played together, the venue was empty apart from the other band and the sound guy. I snapped a string duri ng and I didn’t have a replacement gui tar or any spare string , so I just had to sing and it was just a really awkward experience. But we definitely learned a lot from those early shows – they shaped us as a band. Working on the first EP was a big learning experience too. We were really unprepared during the whole process. We recorded the songs in about four different locations - the first two tracks were recorded in a small studio in Ayrshire, the third track was recorded partly in my house and partly in Danny ’s house and the last track was tracked live at a studio in Glasgow. All the tracks sounds completely different and they didn’t really flow ver y well but when it came to recording One More Second Chance, we kind of knew what we were doing.

H ow would you describe yo u r music? It ’s somewhere

between pop-pu n k and alternative rock. I d o n ’t thi nk we quite verge o n e m o however our songs d ef i n i te l y emotional and ho n e st . We wouldn’t have it a ny o t h er way really. We have to fe el passionate about w h at we ’re singing about.

Who would you say are your greatest influences and who do you particularly admire right now in the industr y? Blink-182 are def i n i tel y my big gest influence – t h ey made me want to p i c k u p a guitar and wr i te s o n g s . Although now I love l i ste n i n g to bands such as J i m my Eat World, Death Cab fo r C u t i e and Frightened Ra b b i t . Ea c h of us have real l y d i vers e tastes though. Dave i s re a l l y in to Metallica, Aid a n i s a b i g Rise Against fan a n d D a n ny is really in to Bra n d New at the moment. I th i n k t h e s e influence certainl y c re ep i n to our music at po i nt s .

Touring – love it or hate it ? Love it! Our l a st to u r only lasted a coup l e o f d ays though but we a re re a l l y excited about load i n g u p t h e van and heading b a c k o u t o n tour in May. We al ways h ave a good laugh whe n we ’re o n the road and we’re l o o ki n g for ward to hangin g o u t w i t h the boys in Page 4 4 ! T h ey ’re a great bunch of gu ys .

What are your worst and favourite parts of being on tour together? T h e worst part is hea d i n g h o m e after the last show, k n ow i n g you’re not playin g a n o t h e r gig the following n i g ht . B u t the best parts o f to u r a re getting to play m u s i c w i t h

How d i d yo u co m e up with the name for your ba n d ? Wa s i t yo u r First choice? Da r y l : Wel l t h e reason I named the band Eve r y d a y At Ten i s that i used to have a 10am bre a k a t my w o r k, and while ever yone was hav i n g s o m et h i n g to eat or doing whatever I w o u l d g o s o m ew here quiet and write lyrics it w a s my w a y o f escaping the mundane work and a l w a y s h el p ed get me through the day. Yea h I d i d n ’t w a nna call the band any thing els e i t w a s a l w a y s going to be that. Did yo u h ave a ny other band names in mind? Da r y l : n o t r ea l l y i t was al ways gonna be that I co u l d n ’ t g et i t o ut of my head and it meant a lo t to , s o m e o f o ur best songs came from it. How l o n g h ave yo u known each other? Da r y l : I h a v e k n own Dave since I was 16 and the r est o f t h e g u ys i only met when forming the b a nd . D a v e w as my first call as he is the best d r u m m e r i k n ow he was up for joining and I w a s v e r y ex i te d I knew it was a great start for t h e p r o j ec t . D erek I met through a family me m b e r a n d kn ew instantly i wanted him on lea d g u i ta r. No t l ong after Derek introduced me to C o l i n a n d t hat was that. I’ve become ver y fo n d o f a l l t he guys on a personal level as w e l l a s a p r o fe ssional level. How d i d yo u r b a n d start? De re k : I g o t a call from Dar yl and when I hea r d h i s i d ea s a n d songs it was a no brainer rea l l y I h a v e a d d ed my spin on things and we hav e a v er y h a r m o nious ballance. Wh at h a s b e e n your big gest challenge as a ba n d ? Da r y l : I t h i n k launching ever y thing and gett i n g r e co g n i t i on in such a short space of t i m e h a s b e en the biggest challeng e, we hav e b e en v er y p r olific so far and that is ver y imp o r tant to m ov e for ward gathering pace, tha t ’s t h e c h a l l en ging aspect, but it ’s a lot of fun a n d t h a t w a s our plan from the start.

As a new band how much of a cha l l e n ge h a s it been in the industr y? Da r yl: For any new band it is a toug h i n d u st r y, you’ve got to work tirelessly. We ha v e w o r ke d incredibly hard and now the ben ef i t s a r e showing, you’ve got to want it m o r e t h a n any thing and then your natural ta l e nt w i l l pull you through. When you write your lyrics, what i n s p i re s you? Da r yl: A mix ture of personal exper i en ces a n d obser vations of other peoples ex p er i en ce s , I get inspired by simple things t h a t a r e universally profound like to write ab o u t t h i n g s ever yone can relate to. What ’s your favourite song to per fo r m ? Derek: All our songs are dif ferent i n t h ei r own way, to be honest when we g et i n f r o nt of a crowd we want to make sure ev e r y s o n g is enjoyable for ever ybody and that g i v es u s a massive buzz, it ’s hard to say a favo u r i te b u t our song ‘just for the day ’ has such a n a m a z i n g beat and full of hooks, if I was push ed I w o u l d probably say that one. What where your musical influenc e s g row i n g up? Derek: I’ve listened to all sorts g r ow i n g u p from rock, blues, pop, to classica l , co u nt r y, and jazz. I believe that having a w i d es p r ea d interest in dif ferent styles helps y o u a s a musician and become the creative a r t i st y o u want to be. Who is your favourite band at the m o m e nt ? Da r yl: That ’s a tough question at th e m o m ent . . . Mr Children, I suggest giving them a l i sten How long have you been play i n g (a ny ) instruments? Derek: forever! Well seems that w a y s i n ce i was 5 I started, my dad was a grea t g u i ta r i st so was a natural choice of instrum ent . Da r yl: I started playing guitar a n d w r i t i n g songs when I was about 14.

If you could add any other ban d m e m b e r from any where in the world, who wo u l d i t be and why? Da r yl: Takahiro Matsumoto ( p r o d u cer, composer, guitarist) from Japan e s e s u p e r group B’z. He is a born perform er, a l w a y s strives to better himself and loves w h a t h e does.

Wh at l y r i c , e i t h er your own or someone els e ’s h a s a s p e c i fic meaning to you? Da r y l : I n o u r s o n g, ‘How ’s it gonna feel’ the lyr i c fo r t h e c h o r us has a special meaning in par t i c u l a r fo r m e but all our songs have lyrics tha t m o st p e o p l e can relate to in their own wa y. M o st o f t h e feelings I have felt I am sure the r e a r e l o t s o f people who have felt the sam e . Wh at t y p e o f m u s ic do you really not like? De re k : We a cce pt and respect all music styles you j u st m a y n o t find us listening to certain sty l e s , b u t ea c h to their own. X-fa c to r, l ove o r l oathe and why? Da r y l : I k n ow a few people who have been on t h e X fa c to r a nd have made it rela tively far a n d I t h i n k i t ’s a good launch pad if you wa nt to s i n g a n d do ver y little else. I would say t h o u g h t h a t y ou have got to make it to win o r co m e r u n ner up to have any kind of lon g te r m ca r ee r with the exception of JLS tha t i s ( l a u g h s ) . A s a friend of Fred O ’Neil and his p r o tég é S u s a n Boyle I prefer Britain’s Got Tal ent i f I ’m b ei n g honest. De re k : ca n ’t sta n d the x factor myself. Don’t get m e w r o n g , t h ere are some great si ngers on t h er e, b u t t h e way it works, the judges, the fa ken es s , t h e utter bull of it all, it bores me to tea r s ! Wh at d o yo u d o to relax? De re k : p l a y p o ker and music! Da r y l : I d o n ’t g et much chance to relax at the m o m ent i n fa c t I don’t know how to really (la u g h s ) , I s o m et i mes listen to Leonard Cohen on my i Po d a n d c l ose my eyes for a whil e.

Do you have any exciting shows co m i n g u p ? Derek: all of our shows, no matter w h er e t h ey are, will be great. We’re gonna wo r k h a r d to improve at each one, and give 100 % ef fo r t i n our performances. You get ever y th i n g a t o u r concerts we interact a lot with the c r ow d i t ’s not good enough for us to just sta n d t h er e and play. I honestly believe all our s h ow s a r e exiting from the intimate ones to t h e l a r g e r ones; the fans always get the best f r o m u s . Who would you like to tour with? Derek: Bif f y Clyro great band, or fo r a l a u g h Justin Timberlake we did have a UK exc l u s i v e tour set with IYAZ in December 201 0 b u t w a s cancelled due to aw ful weather an d a i r p o r t s being closed. Finally, where do you HOPE to be i n a ye a r ’s time? And where do you think yo u w i l l AC TUALLY be? Da r yl: I think our momentum wi l l h a v e u s in a great position in a year ’s tim e, I d o n ’t see us slowing down. The reality i s t h a t y o u never really know where you will b e, t h a t ’s down to fate and I always believe t h a t i s j u st something that must run its course .

If yo u we re a s u p erhero, which ONE special powe r wo u l d yo u have? De re k : i nv i s i b i l i t y ... :) Wh at h ave b e e n your experiences of “ce l e b r i t y l i fe ”. What are the perks/negative sid e s o f fa m e ? Da r y l : I t s to u g h keeping in the limelight at ever y l ev el , I d o k now celebrity ’s, and I know tha t ’s t h ei r b i g g e st challenge, as is keeping a go o d i m a g e t h r o u gh the press . . . showbiz is a r u t h l es s g a m e .

th e A M P d o w n ” the vocals are t oooo qu i e t ! A g a i n t hey were drowned out by v e r y l o u d g uitars. Now, normally, I wo u l d b e s h o u ting turn it up, but I do like t o h e a r t h e songs as well. Their third son g o f t h e n i g ht, “memories”, was my fa v o u r i t e . I t s l o wed down a lot so you co u l d h e a r t h e l yrics much more clearly. In f a c t I r e a l l y enjoyed that song!! The fou r t h s o n g t h e y performed had a very los t p r o p h e t s f eeling to it, tracks such as “ l a s t t r a i n home” and “to hell we rid e ” . V o c a l s a l so became stronger and cle a r e r t o h e a r . Their fifth was another slo w t r a c k . I t h ad an old school feel to it. T h e y e n d e d t heir portion of the show wi t h t h e i r t r a c k called “tidal”.

First on stage was “Aviation F o r K i d s ” , made up of Stephen lead v o c a l s & guitar, Gregor on bass and b a c k i n g vocals, and Liam on drums. T h i s w a s the second time I have seen t h i s b a n d , this time they were a lot loud e r t h a n I remembered. Their first trac k b e g a n with a lot of guitar, very lou d o n t h e ears! When the vocals finally s t a r t e d , it was not too clear what th e y w e r e singing. Having seen them b e f o r e , I recognised it as “Everything” . A s t h e second track began I was think i n g “ t u r n

The p l a c e w a s filling up nicely as “He sle p t o n 5 7 ” t o o k to the stage. The band, ma d e u p o f S t uart Nelson lead vocal an d g u i t a r , E wan Cruickshank Bass/ Vo c a l s a n d K y l e Campbell on drums. The b a n d o p e n ed their set with “Your Fa i n t M e m o r y ” . A nice fresh pop/rock son g t o g e t t h e fans going. This song began with just good sounding guitaring, be f o r e t h e d r u ms and singing kick in. Thi s b a n d s v o cals where decidedly mo r e p o w e r f u l compared to “Avia tion” wh o w e r e o n f irst. Stuart was having som e p r o b l e m s as he kept tripping over the w i r e s o n s t age, maybe he should ha v e t a p e d t h e m down!!! “A n o t h e r P h o t o for the Album” was ne x t t o b e p e r f ormed by the band. The mu s i c f o r t h i s t rack was heavier than the f i r s t a n d h ad more of a kick to it. Wi t h s l o w e r v o cals as well, it ma de it ea s i e r t o m a k e out and enjoy the lyrics.

The song “Autumn leaves & F r e e z i n g Feet” was next up. I loved t h i s s o n g ! Personally its one of my favou r i t e s . L i v e it was even better. If you like d s i m p l e plan in the early days, then y o u w i l l definately enjoy this track. A g a i n a more pop/rock track, with p l e n t y o f strong guitar solos where need e d .

“K i c k i n g S t o n e s ” sounded as good live as i t d o e s o n the EP. A real quality tra c k . T h e d r u m ming was less pop/rock an d m o r e R O C K & ROLL. Th e b a n d a n n o unced “The Old Sparky” ca n b e f o u n d o n their EP, which was on sa l e a t t h e “ m erch” stand. The tone an d p i t c h o f S tuart’s voice during this so n g r e m i n d e d me of lead vocals in “b o w l i n g f o r s o up”. Th e t r a c k “ W h e re the Air is Thin” is the ne w s i n g l e f r o m the Inverness trio. The

vid e o f o r t h i s track can be found on th e i r Y o u T u b e . This track is my favourite fro m t h e n e w EP!! I think the video is fa b t o o , h o w e v er, live is even better, it ha d t h e c r o w d singing along. Th e i r f i n a l s o n g of the night was “Clark Be n t ” . S o m e f r i ends of the band had tra v e l l e d t h r o u gh from Glasgow for the ev e n t a n d t h e y were being encouraged to j o i n i n w i t h t h e singing. This all added to t h e a t m o s p h ere, as by now the v enue wa s a l m o s t f u l l . Ov e r a l l a m o s t enjoyable band! For fa n s o f T w e n t y Twenty, simple plan or an y p o p / r o c k band. I will definitely re c o mm e n d t h i s band.

T h e y opened the show with a s o n g c a l l e d “Running from all that doe s n ’ t t e m p t you”. A heavy rock son g t h a t g o t the crowd going and eve n s o m e M o s hing! The second song the f a n s t o o k over the singing. The tra c k w a s n o t quite as grunge/rock as t h e p r e v i o u s track. There was some stra n g e b a n t e r going on between the ban d a n d a u d i e nce, involving monkeys and t a n s ! B y the fourth song the sing e r w a n t e d u s to know he wasn’t a mo n k e y ? ? C o n f used? So was I. During

the evening, Sucioperro an n o u n c e d they would be taking a bre a k f o r a while. Their fans seemed a litt l e u p s e t . They then declared this is not t h e e n d ! They will be back.... They de d i c a t e d the tenth track of the night to t h e f a n s as it was called “song for F a n s ” . How did you choose the name of your band Have you changed the band’s name before? It ’s qu ite difficult to pick someth ing original these days so we jus put the I Pod on shuffle and picked the first track name that came up. We never really got round to thinking of a idea so The Escape Artist just stuck. What genre of music do you co nsider your work to be? Who are your major influen ces? I guess it ’s metalcore, but not the sense alot of others play it, it ’s thrashier and more technical with the occasional funky time signatures and such. But we still take the best bits from the metalcore scene. When did you form your band? We formed about a year ago by Jack and Matthew and after a few line up changes we are now al happy and we work really well together and I can’t see there been another change. What inspired you to make music together?

We have all been i nvo l ved with music togeth er i n s o m e way shape or form . P rev i o u s bands and three o f u s h ave taken a music co u rs e. J a c k , Matt and Dan are t h e o r i g i n a l three and Kurtis a n d M i ke came into it throug h k n ow i n g Matt. Where have you p e r fo r m e d ? Mainly the north e a st o f t h e UK but over the s u m m e r we plan to do a lot of s h ows a l l around. What are your favo u r i te a n d least favourite ven u e s ? Ever y venu is o bv i o u s l y different and we a l l h ave o u r personal opinions b u t m u s i c is our life and we a re h a p py to play any where an d a ny t i m e that we can. Do you have any u p co m i n g shows? We have a few pl a n n e d o u t and confirmed over t h e summer which can b e fo u n d on our MySpace and Fa c e b o o k page. How has your mus i c evo l ve d since you first bega n p l ay i n g music together? When we first star te d we h a d quite a metalcoe h a rd co re kind of look on t h i n g s a n d

it rea l l y s h owe d i n our early son g s b u t o u r m u s ic taste has cha n ge d a n d we opened our mi n d s u p to d i fferent things rea l l y a n d we j ust started exp e r i m e nt i n g m o re.

If you could play on your dream tour, what bands would be on it supporting you? We all h ave different opinions on this but we love August Burns Red, Suicide Silence, Sylosis…..

as (b an m re (voc als)

How ca n fa n s - to-be gain acc e s s to yo u r m u sic? Th ro u g h t h e M y Space page or fa c eb o o k ( w hich there is a l i n k fo r o n the myspac and You Tu b e c h annel Also we h ave a C D available for any b o d y w h o co mes out to see u s . What are your songs about? Personal issues I guess. Not in a Haw thorne Heights Emo kind of way. But we don’t sing about any thing political or religious because none of that bullshit interests us. Or none of that aimlessly brutal Raping and Killing and Mutilating death metal shit (but that would be awesome). Just pure hatred alot of the time, which Jack has alot of.

s)

Would you date a fan: We are all in a relationship and they don’t mind our music

Ty re

Wh at a d v i c e d o you have for pe o p l e w h o wa nt to form the i r ow n b a n d s ? Do i t . I f yo u l ove music and en j oy p l ay i n g t h e n start up a ban d a n d go fo r i t .

Band you would love to support: August Burns Red, Lamb Of God and Suicide Silence.

Jack

Are yo u s e e k i n g fame and for t u n e ? As l o n g a s we h ave fun and en j oy w h at we d o we are all hap py.

Life on tour is: AWSOME

el

What is your music background: We all have similar kind of backgrounds when it comes to music. We have been in separate bands and experimented before but now we are all happy and love wh at we do.

Best gig you played & why: Billingham Synthonia with a Fable for the Curious jus cause of the size of the place and amount of people there.

ni

What ’s your dream holiday? Somewhere hot maybe. Having a chance to get any where outside of the UK with our music would be a bonus.

Quick Questions…

Da

rt i s t

What ’s your most embarrassing experience? There have been a few. Jack getting tangled up in his mic lea d and falling into a pole, Dan’s bass cutting out, Mike playing the wrong part, Kurtis’s effect board cutting out just before a solo. Its all been a laugh though.

What ’s the video called? The video is for our song “Into the Deep” Was this your first video? Yes, this is our first music video. It was a fun experience. The band was filmed on set at Cornerstone University. It actually took 12 hours to film the band. It took a lot of energy drinks, coffee, and quesadillas. Fortunately, we are used to playing live with a click track so getting the timing write was no problem. There were just a lot of takes and a lot of camera angles to capture. Who directed the video? The video was filmed by Matt Pickart (See notes & credits). He is an experienced director but it was his first time directing a music video.

What message was it tr ying to send to the public/fans? There are a lot of people in the world who feel alone and unwanted. They strug gle to fit in. We want them to know they are perfect just the way they are. They are wanted and they are loved. At the same time, we as individuals need to be aware of those in need a nd do our best to seek them out and show them love and compassion.
