snow finish, and wooden slope has a spring attachment at the lower end which, when released, causes the wooden skier on metal skies to propel forward, over the bar of the two American flags which could be set at different heights. The toy is preserved in (very worn) original colorful box with illustration of how the toy is designed to work. The box is labeled “Patented July 6, 1927, Model 8/27”. Skier is excellent, ski slope snow is a bit worn, overall good condition. Schoenhut, circa 1927. $300/500
271. American Wooden Characters from Teddy Roosevelt’s Safari Set by Schoenhut 8” (20 cm.) Teddy. Each is all-wooden with carved and painted details, including Teddy Roosevelt with his highly characterized hair, beard, spectacles, boots, and wearing original uniform (lacking helmet and rifle), native guide with original costume, gorilla with sculpted ears, rhino, alligator (leather feet not original), and single hump camel with glass eyes. Very good overall condition. American, Schoenhut, the set was introduced by the firm in 1909, to commemorate Teddy Roosevelt’s safari to Africa to collect specimens for the Smithsonian Museum. $3500/4500
