The firm-sided cabinet with applied embossed metal sides and front enclosing glass walls, features elaborate painted scenes of gilt garlands, flowers and romantic 18th century style scene; the front door opens to glass-shelved interior, on which are displayed miniature bric-a-brac. 6. Viennese Bronze Miniature Clock with Enamel Scenes 3 ½” (9 cm.) The heavy bronze mantel clock with rich gold leaf finish has elaborate scrolling, decorated with hand-painted enamel scene on the front depicting romantic couples in the 18th-century style, with fine porcelain clock under beveled glass cover, and with attached winding key at the back. Excellent condition. Vienna, late 19th century, an opulent miniature work. $400/600

Including an unusual cardstock box in the shape of a domed trunk with lithographed scenes of children playing, embossed silver trim, bail handle, and sides which flip open at each side for access to the candy container compartments. by Jumeau 20” (51 cm.) Bisque socket head, very narrow eye sockets designed as though the eyes are crinkled in laughter, blue glass inset eyes, dark eyeliner, long painted curly lashes, thick brushstroked and feathered brows, rounded nose tip, shaded nostrils, sculpted-closed mouth modeled as though open in a hearty laugh, two rows of sculpted teeth, defined tongue, separately-modeled pierced ears, blonde mohair wig over cork pate, French composition and wooden fully-jointed body. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 208 (incised) Depose Tete Jumeau Bte SGDG 9 (and artist checkmarks, on head) Bébé Jumeau Diplome d’Honneur (body). Comments: Emile Jumeau, from his 1890s “Series Fantastique”, only 17 examples of this model in size 9 remained in the 189 Jumeau inventory indicating the rarity of the model. Value Points: the very dramatic laughing expression is compelling yet curiously charming, enhanced by very choice quality of sculpting, finest bisque with luminous complexion, original wig, pate, body, body finish, fine antique costume, bonnet and accessories. $40,000/60,000

The small wooden cabinet with bombe-shaped sides and hinged front door with beveled glass panel is covered with brocade tapestry and gilt braid, and contains ten small miniature French books such as Fables and Allegories, published by Fenelon in 1896.

Solid domed bisque socket head, sculpted forelock curls and side curls above the ears, brushstroked hair at back of head, one large blue glass googly eye with painted long curly lashes, the other eye sculpted and painted in semi-closed “winking” manner, short feathered brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth in beaming smile with accented lips, double chin, composition and wooden ball-jointed toddler body with side-hip jointing, wearing navy blue woolen sailor uniform. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 175-9. Comments: Hertel and Schwab, circa 1915. Value Points: very rare variation of the firm’s Jubilee Googly, this model with unique and captivating eye design, enhanced by choicest bisque and painting, nice larger size. $8000/12,000

26. Rare German Bisque Googly “Virginia, Ginny for Short” Designed by Oscar Hitt 13” (33 cm.) Bisque head with flanged neck, blue glass side-glancing large googly eyes with tiny irises, painted short thick stroke lashes at upper rims, and dainty lashes at bottom rim, tiny bow-shaped mouth, blushed cheeks, original cloth body, composition lower legs and celluloid hands, antique costume. Marks: copr. by Oscar Hitt Germany 1403. Comments: designed by American illustrator, Oscar Hitt, under license from George Borgfeldt in 1927, and made in Germany. The Oscar Hitt trademark was listed by Borgfeldt in their 1927 catalog along with the doll’s name “Virginia, Ginny for Short”, that was offered with variations of hair (painted or wigged). Oscar Hitt, a 1901 immigrant, created memorable cartoon strips, as well as designing dolls and toys that emanated from the strips, including this doll and the Highway Henry tin toy. Value Points: exceptional and extremely rare doll, likely made for one year only, has enchanting distinctive 27.

Bisque swivel head on kid-edged bisque two-piece torso with kid-edged swivel waist, brown glass sleep eyes, delicately-painted lashes and arched brows, accented nostrils and eye corners, closed mouth with center accent line, blonde mohair wig, pin-jointed bisque arms and legs, modeled cupped and folded fingers, painted white above-the-knee stockings with scalloped edge and black ankle boots. 34. French Gilt Wooden Tall Case Clock with Bronze Mountings 18” (46 cm.) The wooden tall case clock is finished in rich golden brown which is decorated with floral and garland accents and finished with bronze mountings, with porcelain face, bronze pendulum, and having winding keys. The interior works are incised L.R. Brevete sgdg. Structurally excellent, unknown if clock is working.

Two teams of wooden horses on wheeled wooden platform are pulling a grand wooden bandwagon with original painted red and green finish heavily overlaid with rich gilt accents which emphasizes the elaborately embossed designs including chariot, man on horse and other figural motifs. The carriage interior is arranged with graduated-height seats designs to accommodate the seven musicians. Each all-wooden musician with two-part head with painted hair and facial features, original tiny hole at mouth to accommodate to tiny pin at mouth tip of instrument, jointing at shoulders and hips and is designed to sit on wooden pegs in each bench. Variations in facial painting include cleanshaven, goatees, moustache and side burns, each is wearing original red felt parade costume and wooden helmet, and each is holding a different instrument including trombone, trumpet, French tuba, baritone, cymbals, and two drums each of which is labeled “Humpty Dumpty Circus Band”.
