Welcome to another what’s on guide for the Regent Christchurch.

We are back into the swing of things with many great shows and touring companies returning. I’m incredibly proud of the programme we have put together and I can’t wait for the people of Christchurch and the surrounding areas to enjoy what we have to offer.

While this guide covers many of the broadcasts and shows coming to the Regent over January to April, we have many excellent film showings, which are added to our website www.theregent.co.uk. Keep an eye out for the award seasons releases which will be out over this period.

I love the balance of our program this season, old favourites and hopefully some new shows to take your interest. If you’re interested in getting involved with the Regent or want to know more about how we operate, you can join the Regent company membership. Which runs January 1st-December 31st every year. Concessions apply to over 60’s, Under 16’s & Students with a valid student I.D. We accept CEA Cards for all cinema performances, these tickets can be booked online and via the box office.

If you require a carer to attend the venue, we offer complimentary carer’s tickets. These tickets can only be booked over the phone or at the Box Office.

NEW YEAR VIENNESE CONCERT

Bournemouth Concert Brass band bring in the New Year with a Viennese Concert featuring a feast of music from classical composers associated with the great city of Vienna including, of course, the Strauss family. The concert finishes in typical fashion with the wonderful waltz The Blue Danube and the Radetsky March.

BEHIND THE SCENES

Smell the greasepaint, tread the boards and lap up the limelight when you join one of the Regent’s exclusive tours. This is your chance to explore parts of the Regent that are normally off-limits to the general public, including the projection box, dressing rooms, lighting and sound booths, and behind the scenes in the backstage area.

As well as giving you access to many areas not generally seen when visiting the Regent, our tours also include a short 35mm film screening, all set within our beautifully restored auditorium.

There will also be a chance to ask questions about the Regent, its history, future plans and about its place at the heart of entertainment in Christchurch.

Space is strictly limited so we advise to book early to avoid disappointment.

Please be aware that there are two flights of stairs to access the projection room.

REGENT CINEMA MUSEUM

A MUST-SEE TREAT FOR ALL CINEMA ENTHUSIASTS

Our cinema museum is located within our rooftop projection suite and features a comprehensive collection of vintage cinema artefacts and ephemera.

Not only does the museum chart the Regent’s life as a cinema from its opening in 1931 to now, but also the story of the surrounding area’s historical cinemas, many of which no longer exist.

All our backstage tours include a visit to the Regent Cinema Museum.

Jim Cregan co-wrote, co-produced and musically directed for Rod Stewart for almost two decades. Jim has now formed his own band Cregan & Co to perform that incredible musical heritage. Now he is taking to the road to present the very best of Rod Stewart – the songs that formed the soundtracks to our lives.

FROM THE NEW FOREST BIG BAND AND THE REGENT

Join us for a very special afternoon concert to help raise money for the Regent’s new lift.

Let the New Forest Big Band entertain you with their usual flair, playing numbers from their extensive repertoire with special guest singer Richard Knight.

The New Forest Big Band plays a variety of music from the big band era: Glenn Miller, Stan Kenton, Gerry Gray, Count Basie, Ted Heath, Joe Loss, Alyn Ainsworth, Artie Shaw, Duke Ellington, John Dankworth, Shorty Rogers, Sammy Nestico, Reg Owen, and Brian Fahey. The New Forest Big Band are also proud to have had numbers arranged exclusively for them by the well-known US composer and arranger, Frank Como.

An evening of 60s classics performed by the Sounds Of The 60s All Star Band & Singers, hosted by Radio 2’s legendary DJ, Tony Blackburn. The show features stories and songs from the most loved decade. THE BEACH BOYZ TRIBUTE SHOW LIVE MUSIC

Whether you are coming back to see Beach Boyz Tribute Band again or coming for the first time, the show is as exhilarating as ever, filling the auditorium with glorious, rich vocal harmony. The five all singing, all playing boys that are Beach Boyz Tribute Band continue to amaze, astound and defy belief in their recreation of America’s biggest and longest selling pop rock band The Beach Boys.

IRELAND’S LEADING COUNTRY SINGER

Nathan Carter has out sold One Direction, Pharrell Williams and Michael Buble, and became the first country act to reach number one in the Irish charts in 2013 after Garth Brooks, six years before.

He is an exciting feature on the UK Country scene, and once again tops the Irish charts with his fifth album ‘Where I Wanna Be’ which features his unique blend of Celtic, country and pop! Not bad for the cherubic former head choir boy who sang for Pope John Paul ll in Rome.

EXHIBITION ON SCREEN

Mary Cassatt made a career painting the lives of the women around her. Her radical images showed them as intellectual, feminine and real, which was a major shift in the way women appeared in art. Presenting her astonishing prints, pastels and paintings, this film introduces us to the often overlooked Impressionist whose own career was as full of contradiction as the women she painted.

FUREYS

ST PATRICK’S DAY CELEBRATION

The Fureys are one of Ireland’s all-time most acclaimed and influential middle of the road, folk and traditional bands. Classics like I Will Love You, When You Were Sweet Sixteen, Red Rose Café, Leaving Nancy, The Old Man, and The Green Fields of France have become the soundtrack to the lives of fans all over the world.

Hurn Court Opera brings professional opera and recitals to audiences in Dorset, Wiltshire and Hampshire and stages an annual national Singer of the Year competition. Kipps, The New Half A Sixpence Musical is a stage musical based on the 1905 novel Kipps by H. G. Wells and the original 1963 musical, with new music by George Stiles and Anthony Drewe (Mary Poppins, Peter Pan & Soho Cinders), and lyrics by Anthony Drewe and Heneker.

Performed by the award-winning Milton Musical Society, who have previously performed Chess, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Oklahoma and the highly acclaimed sell-out My Fair Lady. Kipps - The New Half A Sixpence features well known musical numbers such as Pick out a Simple Tune, Flash, Bang, Wallop and of course Half a Sixpence. This is the feelgood show for the entire family.
