MY EXTINCTION

15 | 80 mins | Dir: Josh Appignanesi

What does it take for us to act on the climate crisis? In this funny, relatable portrait, a concerned yet ineffectual dad finds the first step is letting those unbearable feelings of climate anxiety in, instead of pushing them aside. He sets out to unmask the vested interests responsible, helping raise a generation’s leading authors in a vibrant chorus. My Extinction is an honest account of how to feel your feelings, act on your privilege, and get active when threatened with extinction. SAT

HELLO BOOKSTORE

PG | 86 mins | Dir: A. B. Zax

Ever since 1976, The Bookstore has been owned and operated by Matt Tannenbaum, a tall, solicitous, eccentric, engagingly garrulous lover of stories and words and literature who ritually answers the phone with a jaunty nerdish “Hello, bookstore!” Tannenbaum’s fondness for his store and its wares is a beautiful thing to behold, even at its most vulnerable. This intimate portrait of The Bookstore and the family at its heart offers a journey through good times, hard times, and the stories hidden on the shelves. Lovers of books, and especially bookstores, will be swept away by this real-life survival story.

ELEMENTAL

PG | 109 mins | Dir: Peter Sohn

An original new feature film from Pixar Studios (Toy Story) set in Element City, where fire, water, land and air residents live together.

Arriving at the culturally diverse Elemental City, the fiery Lumen family (Bernie, his wife Cinder, and their tough and quick-witted young daughter Ember) left their families behind to start a new life for themselves. No one knows how to pronounce their names, and in a city primarily occupied by inhabitants comprised of water, they’re considered not welcome. Year’s later, a chance meeting with charismatic water element Wade, leads them on a journey where opposites attract and the two elements who physically cannot be together (literally, they cannot touch, as she’ll evaporate him, and he’ll extinguish her if they do) will come to realise just how compatible they truly are.

Written and directed by Christopher Nolan (Interstellar, Dunkirk), this is an epic thriller that thrusts audiences into the paradox of the man who must risk destroying the world in order to save it.

This is a story rife with controversies and drama, which takes on nobody less than the man who ushered in a new level of war, whether he wanted it or not.
