Bandung City to Adopt Public Transportation System Like Mexico’s Bandung City Government continues to get the right design for the public transportation system that matches the characteristics of Bandung. The transportation system is still a crucial problem in the city of Bandung. One effort is by having a comparative study to learn the transportation system in other country, like recently done by Bandung Mayor Ridwan Kamil (Emil) while visiting Mexico recently. During his visit, Emil had the opportunity to conduct a comparative study of the transportation systems in the country. One interesting thing is it also uses buses like Trans Metro Bandung (TMB) in Bandung. “The transportation system in Mexico is the best in the world. I

instruct the Head of Transportation Department to immediately copy the system in a pilot project,” Ridwan said in a press release on Tuesday (8/15). Emil also said the local buses in Mexico City were designed to be very comfortable and spacious. According to him, there are also three-articulated buses so each bus can accommodate so many passengers. The roads are also wide so they can run through easily. He added that the success of local buses in Mexico is measured by their ability to change the people’s lifestyles. Previously the Mexicans also liked to drive their cars as the main mode of transportation, but now people are turning to the public transportation.

“The bus is so comfortable, the time between buses is short, and the bust stops are many. That caused people to change their lifestyles, from usually driving cars or motors, now they take the bus,” he added. In Bandung, Emil has to deal with the problem of narrow roads. Therefore, the articulated bus model used in Mexico will be difficult to run in Bandung. “So, we have to make the concept of TMB busway which is moderate but adequate. That is what we are thinking,” he said He plans to start operating the system he learned from Mexico in the near future. It will start with changing the urban transportation pattern to prevent the traffic jams from getting worse. (JBN/TPP)

Attending MPKMB 54 IPB, Aher: We’ll Make Indonesia World Super Power in Food West Java Governor Ahmad Heryawan (Aher) attended the Campus Introduction to New Students (MPKMB) 54 Bogor Institute of Agriculture (IPB) Year 2017 at Graha Widya Building Graduation Campus IPB Dramaga, Dramaga Highway, Bogor Regency, on Sunday (8/13). In front of 3,975 new students of IPB for Academic Year 20172018, Aher encouraged and motivated them to become the driving and determinant force for Indonesian food policy. Food is super-essential in the world, he said, without food there will be no life on this earth. “Food is super-essential. Humans will never live without food. There are three crises that the world fear, the crises of water, food, and energy. The energy crisis is not directly related to human life, but the water crisis and the food crisis directly affect the human life,” said Aher in his presentation themed Dynamics of Life in West Java. For that, in front of IPB Rector Herry Suhardiyanto and all Civitas Academia of IPB, Aher called for guarding the food while preserving the environment, because the entire supply of life on earth comes from the nature. Aher encouraged IPB to play more roles and responsibilities in determining the availability of food.

To cut the long queue of passengers in Trans Semarang Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) shelters, the management of Trans Semarang BRT has cooperated with Moovit Indonesia in using the Moovit application to monitor the BRT bus in corridor I to VI. Acting Head of Public Service Agency (BLU) Trans Semarang, Ade Bhakti, said there is a plan to expand the BRT shelters due to the increasing number of passengers. But it will take time in planning and budgeting. “With the Moovit application, it is expected the passengers will not crowd the shelters, especially during the rush hours, because they already know exactly when the bus will come, what corridors, what bus number they ride according to their itineraries. The users can download the application at the Playstore,” he said on Wednesday (8/9). According to Ade, Moovit Indonesia was chosen for its application has spread globally. Moovit is currently used by approximately 70 million users worldwide, covering 1,400 cities in 72 countries, using 47 languages and is supported by thousands of local communities. “Bung Karno once said - at the inauguration of IPB in 1963, that the matter of food and agriculture is a matter of life and death of the Indonesian nation. Thus, IPB is responsible for the future of Indonesian life affairs,” Aher said. Aher also said that he hoped IPB graduates will become great people in food affairs. “If the United States declares itself a super power in armed forces. Let us present our peace-loving nation, people who love to live harmoniously side by side, to be the super power in food.” He then briefly mentioned the import policy on some food commodities made by Indonesia. According to him, this happens because of lack of alignment and focus between the farmers and food products in the country. Therefore, Aher said he wants

IPB to play a bigger role in determining the national food policy. “Our food is still lacking, it seems rice is not imported anymore. But other foods are still imported. This is the matter of alignment and focus. Therefore, besides having to prepare the human resources for food security, IPB must also presents the statehood concepts that influence the state’s policy on food,” said Aher. “So, 80 percent of the decisions on food should be the concepts of IPB. Because this is what the agriculture campus all about and it is the biggest in our country. Let us present goodness in the food sector, agriculture. So that Indonesia will be safe in the future, because the safe country in the future is a country with a food security,” he concluded. (FJB/TPP)

Central Java Provincial Government has developed a digital library application that can be accessed by people using cellular phone. “The contents provided in the digital library will increase the literacy of the community so that the spread of hoax among the public can be minimized,” said Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo in Semarang on Thursday (7/13). According to him, the digital library will educate various layers of society and they also can write and create their own libraries. “In my opinion, (the digital

library, ed.) is good and interesting because it can educate and increase the reading interest of the community as well,” said the PDI-P politician. Head of Archives and Library of Central Java Province M. Masrofi explained that the application of digital library named “ijateng”, launched on July 18, 2017, will improve the literacy of Indonesian people, especially the ones in Central Java. He said the development of digital library was initiated by the low number of people in Indonesia who can access the library, which is only eight percent and most are in the urban areas.

17 simultaneously with the launching of TCash Semarang Terrific. Based on the trials in the field, the buses come in the range of 30 seconds to two minutes earlier than the time specified in the app. “We can monitor the bus arrival times anywhere. I suggest to come to the shelter five minutes earlier than the time of arrival in the application. This Silicon Valley-based application helps obtain the route selection information, bus position, arrival times, travel times, and transit points,” said Ade. He added the cooperation aimed to support Semarang Smart City program and to create safe, convenient and cheap mass transportation. “We expect this application will make the passengers or service users be more comfortable because their trips will be on time,” he said. A BRT service user, Novi Tri Sukmatwati said she was grateful with the application because she did not have to wait in the shelter for too long. “At certain hours, the shelters are so crowded, all seats taken, too tired to stand too long. This application makes our time more efficient, we do not need to wait at the shelter too long,” said the student of class XI SMKN 9 Semarang. (TRB/TPP)

Central Java Develops Digital Library The digital library application is expected to help people who have difficulty in accessing libraries, especially those in rural areas. Masrofi said the interest in reading among Indonesian society is also low. That shows at the position of Indonesia at the 60th out of 61 countries for literacy, he added. Nevertheless, he said, the contrary occurs on the use of social media of which Indonesia is on the top in the world so that the application of digital library “ijateng” becomes an opportunity to increase the people’s interest in reading and improve the community literacy. “Besides providing digital books for free and accessible anywhere, the public can also participate in adding a collection of books on the application, since the people can create their own libraries and upload the writings they make,” he said. At the launch of the digital library “ijateng” 3,270 titles of books are provided for free. The collection will increase with the participation of people who want to donate digital books and publish their writings. (ANT/TPP)
