ASEAN-Australia Summit Reiterates Commitment to Free Market, Anti-Protectionism ASEAN member countries and Australia have vowed to unite against protectionism and encourage North Korea to halt its nuclear development.“We are committed to the free and open market. We will also reject all forms of protectionism,” said an official statement from the Australia-ASEAN Special Summit 2018 which was held in Sydney on Sunday (3/18). Earlier this month, the global market was shaken by the resignation of Gary Cohn as US Economic Advisor of the White House following the announcement of import tariffs on steel and aluminum by Pre sident Donald Trump. He considered the policy to potentially increase the tension of global trade warfare. Bloomberg economists predict that if a global trade war takes place, at least US$470 billion will be lost from the global gross domestic product (GDP) by 2020.

Meanwhile, on the North Korean issues, ASEAN and Australia agreed that nuclear and ballistic missiles in the countries of Korean peninsula were a threat to the ASEAN region. They will push the denuclearization in Korean Peninsula in a thorough, verified, and comprehensive way. Concerned about the rising nuclear program in the North Korea, US President Donald Trump has also signaled that he agreed to meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in the next few months to discuss

the issue. Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said that ASEAN and Australia would be cautious and support the development. “We hope the recent move can contribute to the world peace and stability forever,” he said after attending the summit. During the summit Australia and ASEAN also signed an agreement to strengthen cooperation in the intelligence sharing to hinder the ability of terrorists to communicate via digital messages in the region.

This comes as concerns arise from the impact of ISIS terrorists returning from the Middle East, with Indonesia and the Philippines being the most vulnerable countries. Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak also told the meeting on Saturday that violence to the Rohingya Muslim community in Rakhine, Myanmar, might also provide an opportunity for ISIS to recruit devoted members. “Now, the terrorism has become a threat to the ASEAN region, not only the domestic

problem of a country,” he said. In the meantime, Myanmar leader Aung San Suu Kyi met Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull on Sunday (3/18). Turnbull confirmed that the ASEAN-Australia Summit leaders discussed Myanmar’s ethnic violence with him on Monday (3/19). “This is a complex issue. Everyone wants to find a way to end the suffering that occurs in the conflict,” he said, adding that what happened in Myanmar was a humanitarian catastrophe. (KBN/TPP)

Jababeka Wants Morotai’s KEK Status to Become Authority Body PT Jababeka Tbk as the managing company of Morotai Special Economic Zone (KEK) hopes the government will change the status into an authority body to attract more investors. Such an authority body will be easier to manage the entire region of Morotai, especially in attracting the investors as it can guarantee the legal certainty of investments there. Founder and Chairman of Jababeka Setyono Djuandi Darmono said the authority body does not need to acquire the land as it belongs to the government, while in the KEK status the managing company has to acquire the land. The government, as the landowner, will automatically guarantee the legal certainty of the

land status. This will overcome the problem related land acquisition which usually becomes the obstacle in the realization of investments in an area. In KEK Morotai, for example, the certification of land has only reached 100 hectares (ha), while another 500 ha are still being processed by the National Land Agency (BPN). In fact, the land needed by Jababeka is 1,500 ha. If it is ruled by an authority body, the certification could be done faster. “My dream is that Morotai to be ruled by an authority body, like Singapore. Its government guarantees the legal certainty on the land status. Why can’t we apply it in Morotai?” said Darmono at the Coordinating Ministry

for Economic Affairs, on Friday (3/16). Being promoted as KEK tourism, Morotai has attracted many investors. According to Darmono, about 20 investors came to Jababeka every day asking about the investment opportunities there. A Japanese company is ready to build a 300-room hotel with an investment of US$50 million, he said. Some other investors, he added, want to serve Morotai historical tours, considering the island was occupied by Japan during the Second World War. “Japan also sees Morotai potential as a logistics center for Eastern Indonesia,” he said, adding that the chance to make the island ruled under an authority body is wide open because the

We have conveyed the idea to the president and he supports it, but it will need a long way to go and lots of regulations.” constitution permits it, mainly through the article 18B of the 1945 Constitution. Subsequently, the proposal of this authority body must be approved by the House of Representatives (DPR). “We have conveyed the idea to the president and he supports it, but it will need a long way to go and lots of regulations,” Darmono said. KEK Morotai was established in 2014 after the issuance of Go-

vernment Regulation (PP) Number 50 of 2014. The appointment of Jababeka as the managing company of the KEK Morotai was decided under the Decree of Regent of Morotai Island Number 583.3/191/PM/2014. As the managing company of KEK Morotai, Jababeka has to build basic infrastructure, acquire the land, and realize the pioneering investment. The KEK status means the investments in Morotai will get incentives of tax holiday and tax allowance. According to the Finance Minister Regulation No. 104/PMK.010/2016, the tax holiday for investors in KEK is a reduction of corporate income tax by 20 percent to 100 percent. (CNN/TPP)

Vice President Jusuf Kalla has called on the entrepreneurs to partner with farmers to improve the food productivity. According to him, Indonesia needs 3% food growth per year to meet the needs of population which grows 1.5% per year. The Indonesian population in 2045 is estimated to reach 350 million people. “It means we have to increase the food production by 3% per year,” Kalla said while opening the Jakarta Food Security Summit organized by the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce in Jakarta on Thursday (3/8). He added Indonesia faces at least three challenges in increasing food production; the land is getting narrow due to the growing population, urbanization and global climate change. To overcome these challenges, Kalla added, the right technology is needed. “We must create new re volutionary hybrids, water-saving irrigation system, etc.” The farmers unfortunately have limitations in doing research in terms of technology and financial. So, the partnership between entrepreneurs and farmers is needed here. Coordinating Minister

President Jokowi Ensures MRT Jakarta to Operate in March 2019 President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has ensured the MRT Jakarta will be commercially operational in March 2019. He said that after inspecting the MRT Jakarta development site at the Bundaran HI Station and Senayan Station. “I just visited the site again this afternoon to learn the progress of our MRT project. I have talked with the president director and he confirmed the project will finish on time and begin operational in March next year, no delay,” said Jokowi in Jakarta, on Wednesday (3/7). Accompanying Jokowi in the inspection were Jakar-

ta Governor Anies Baswedan, Transportation Minister Budi Karya, and Nasdem Party Chairman Surya Paloh and President Director of MRT Jakarta Wiliam Sabandar. The president also reviewed the readiness to organize the Asian Games in August 2018. He asked the zinc fence to cover the MRT project would have been removed when the Asian Gemas started. Meanwhile Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan promised to widen the sidewalks along the road from Senayan to Semanggi. “I want to make sure during the Asian Games there will be no zinc fence anymore.

The governor said the widening the pavements will also be completed. So, we can welcome the 30,000 Asian Games athletes and guests into Jakarta which is already clean and beautiful,” Jokowi said. Jokowi and his entourage observed the Roundabout Station underground with a depth of nine meters and a width of 23.3 meters. The progress of MRT Jakarta in February has reached 91.86% for civil engineering development, 87.99% for overpass construction, and 95.76% for underground with 11,314 meters long rail track. for Economic Affairs Darmin Nasution added the utilization of land in Indonesia is only one-third of the total, while the rest is in the form of forests. “The one-third of land is used for housing, infrastructure and industry so that the land for agriculture especially in Java is very small.” Agriculture Minister Amran Sulaiman said he is preparing a strategy to optimize the land, especially the rainfed land plots. “In Indonesia, 50 percent of Indonesia’s agricultural land plots are rain-fed which can only be planted once in a year. We build irrigation to make them able to harvest two to three times a year,” he said. Another effort is finding new varieties of food plants with high-productivity in cooperation with the universities. “We distribute such new varieties to the farmers for free,” he said. (PKR/TPP)

President Jokowi Affirms Final Income Tax of SMEs to Decrease to 0.5% President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has said the final income tax for the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) will drop to 0.5% from the previous 1%. He promised the regulation about it will be issued by the end of this March “We had three meetings to discuss it and God willing in the end of this month we will lower the tax from 1% to 0.5%,” said Jokowi when opening National Meeting of Indonesian Young Entrepreneurs Association (Hipmi) at the Novotel Hotel, Banten, on Wednesday (3/7). The final income tax, ruled in the Government Regulation (PP) Number 46 of 2013, targets the taxpayers of per-

sonal and business entities with a turnover less than Rp4.8 billion per year. According to Jokowi, he frequently got complaints from the SMEs about the tax. “Every time I visited a region the SMEs there complained about the 1% tax. Nobody complains here? It means you are the big entrepreneurs, the small ones usually complain,” he said. Jokowi said he wanted the tax was reduced to 0.25%. However, Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati did not agree. “I actually wanted 0.25% but the finance minister insisted it would decrease the government revenue significantly. So, we decided 0.5%,” he added. (DTK/ TPP)

President Jokowi Wanted Integrated Industrial Area to be Expanded President Joko Widodo during his working visit to Gresik Friday, March 9, 2018, inaugurated the development of Java Integrated Industrial and Ports Estate (JIIPE). JIIPE is a concept of merging industrial parks, ports, and settlements that are integrated with each other. President Jokowi claimed to be interested in the concept of this region. The area located in Manyar, Kabupaten Gresik, East Java provides a number of facilities and access from the port area to the factory and industrial areas. “Why I am happy with this region? This is an integrated area, there are ports, there are indus-

trial areas, there is also power plant and harbor,” said the Pre sident, as told by Protocol, Press and Media Secretariat of the President, Saturday March 10, 2018. According to him, an integrated industrial area such as JIIPE needs to be expanded so that more jobs are open. The President also revealed that in his operation, JIIPE is working with small business actors as well as boarding school environment. “I appreciate that JIIPE is also working with ponpes, I appreciate it, the way cooperation like JIIPE can be imitated,” he said. JIIPE consisting of a 400-hectare harbor, an industrial estate

of 1,761 hectares and a residential area of ??800 hectares is expected to continue to work with small businesses to boost the economy. “I leave the industrial area to invite SMEs to work together, do not let the big ones, the small ones pulled in. This is the economy of Pancasila that we develop, there is no harm to the small and medium,” he said. In addition, the Head of State once again advised the relevant ranks to improve by improving the licensing process that is still considered to be convoluted. For, he repeatedly said that the key to boosting Indonesia’s economy is to increase exports and en-

courage investment into Indonesia. “What has become our weakness must be addressed like an overly long licensing matter,” he said, adding: “The investment opens the widest possible field of work, and if it takes too long, who wants to open a factory in Indonesia?” the President said. Also present was accompanying President and First Lady Iriana Joko Widodo, Airlangga Hartarto Minister of Industry, Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi, State Secretary of Pratikno, Minister of Agriculture and Spatial/Head of BPN Sofyan Djalil and East Java Governor Soekarwo. (MED/TPP)

Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has underlined the growth of the middle class in Asia Pacific and Southeast Asia as the economic power in the regions. “There is significant growth in the middle class in Asia and Asia Pacific. For the time being, we must ignore the number of political issues carried in the front pages of newspapers, because the most important fundamental and historic development currently happening in the world is the growth of the middle class, which is continuing to increase in Southeast Asia,” he said, in the presence of company leaders and Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull at the CEO Forum of ASEAN-Australia Special Summit at International Convention Center here, on Saturday (3/13). “There is one important thing that differs in the current cycle of growth of the middle class this time, which is digital economic development, in particular social media,” Jokowi stated. “Selfies have changed the

world and even evolved into `wefie` and `vlog.` In Kalibiru, Yogyakarta, people queue for hours to get an opportunity to take perfect selfies, which Bloomberg calls `an Instagram garden,`” he noted. Digital economy and social media, according to Jokowi, have brought fundamental changes in consumption pattern. “The middle class and the youngsters are more interested in experiencing adventure rather than luxury goods. That is what has made tourism industry grow,” he remarked. Quoting Bloomberg data, he stated that the world`s economy only grows three percent a year, but the tourism industry has grown seven percent. Bloomberg predicts one of the four new jobs in the next 10 years to come from the tourism industry. “Again, 25 percent of new jobs in the world will come from the tourism sector. This is an extraordinary opportunity for ASEAN and Australia to not only promote tourist destinations for the middle class in China and India but also develop it as a big market for domestic tourism industry,” he revealed. To Boost Jewelry Industry, RI Exempts Import Duty of Diamond google.com

The exemption of the import duty will increase the state revenue because it will create added value of the diamond in the form of jewelry. The added value is much bigger than the value of import duty.”

Indonesia has freed the duty on imported raw and cut diamonds to boost the national jewelry industry. Previously, the commodity was imposed 5% of import duty. This new policy is in accordance with the Regulation of Finance Minister no. 17 year 2018 on Second Amendment to PMK No. 6 year 2018 on Stipula-

tion of Classification System of Goods and Imposition of Import Duty Tariffs on Imported Goods. Head of the Agency for Industrial Research and Development (BPPI) Ngakan Timur Antara said the import duty exemption aimed to protect the jewelry craftsmen in the country. “The exemption of the

import duty will increase the state revenue because it will create added va lue of the diamond in the form of jewelry. The added value is much bigger than the value of import duty,” said Ngakan in a press release on Thursday (3/15). Data from the Ministry of Industry show that from the year 2011 to 2016 the national jewelry exports

increased 16.85% from US$2.59 billion in 2011 to US$5.34 billion in 2016. Currently there are 36,636 domestic jewelry companies that absorb more than 333,000 workers. In addition to diamonds, the latest FMD also reduces 10 post tariffs on bicycle component products from 30% to 10%.

The 10 post tariffs are for handlebar, pillar, spatbord, view mirror, control cable, light bracket, chain wheel and crank. Ngakan said he hoped the import duty exemption will lower the burden of the bicycle industry in this country which is experiencing an increase in working capital cost by 20%. (CNBC/TPP)

R&I Rises RI Debt Rating Indonesia is again getting an upgrade for its debt rating, this time from the Japanese Rating and Investment Information, Inc. (R&I) who upgraded Indonesian government bonds from BBB- or positive outlook to BBB or stable outlook on March 7, 2018. Governor of Bank Indonesia, Agus D.W. Martowardojo, said in a statement on Wednesday (3/7) the improvement followed the previous rating upgrade by Fitch and JCR. This is considered depicting the international confidence on Indonesia’s increasingly strong economic fundamentals. Agus added the world recognition is supported by the effectiveness of government policies and authorities in maintaining the stability in macro economy and financial system, as well as the government’s commitment in implementing structural reforms. “This positive momentum needs to be maintained together. Bank Indonesia will continue to optimize its policies, including in stabilizing the exchange rate and maintaining the economic stability,” he said. According to R&I, the key factor of the Indonesia’s debt rating upgrade is that the Indonesian economy continues to show excellent performance with low and sta-

ble inflation, wise fiscal deficit and low government debt. Indonesia’s economic resilience is also considered to be better in facing the external turbulence, reflected in the low current account deficit and large foreign exchange reserves. Besides the infrastructure development shows progress and the investment climate is improving. R&I noted that the government’s efforts in increasing the tax revenues, among others, through the strengthening of tax data base is considered quite good. R&I also believed the policies focusing on the macroeconomic stability and structural reforms will continue amid the political agenda of legislative and presidential elections in 2019. According to R&I, the Indonesian economy will continue to grow like before, inflation will be in the range of 3-4% supported by prudent monetary policies, financial system stability will be maintained, the current account deficit will widen slightly in the range of 2%, and the fiscal deficit will be below 3% to GDP. R&I has improved the SCR outlook of Indonesia from Stable to Positive, while affirmed the rating on BBB- (Investment Grade) on April 5, 2017. (DTK/TPP)

Revision of Holiday Tax Rules to be Released in April, Here is the Leak The government will revise the regulation on the tax holiday incentive and Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati tipped off the journalists some of the contents in that revision. One of them is that all the entrepreneurs will be given tax holiday for a certain period. “The tax holiday is one rate, and it’s 100% definite,” she said at the Regional Office of Directorate General of Tax at WP Besar Sudirman, Jakarta, on Tuesday (3/13). The granting period of tax holiday incentive will also be regulated and based on the amount of investment disbursed by the entrepreneurs. “The term is based on the amount of investment, if above Rp30 trillion it could be more than 20 years,” the minister said. Currently the tax holiday incentive is regulated in the Finance Minister Regulation (PMK) Number 159/ PMK.010/2015 on Provision of Income Tax Reduction Facility for In-

stitutions, as a revision of the previous regulation. In the regulation, a business entity or company is given incentive of income tax (PPh) between 10% and 100% for the period of 5 to 20 years. The revision of the regulation will be issued in a package of fiscal incentives in April. The rules of tax holiday will come out along with other incentives such as tax allowance, as well as tax cuts for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and research and development (RnD) companies. “The goal to make the business world confident. The government have an unquestionable commitment on investment by providing simplification, convenience and certainty. The previous tax holiday is not like that. We have done the benchmarking and this is much better than Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, from the side of tax allowance and tax holiday we provide,” Minister Sri Mul yani said. (DTK/TPP)

RI and Japan Lead OECD Meeting to Discuss ASEAN-Europe Cooperation Japan, Tokyo – Representing the Government of Indonesia, Vice Minister of Finance and Indonesian Ambassador to France in Paris attended the opening of Southeast Asia Regional Program (SEARP) Ministerial Conference in Tokyo, Japan on Thursday (3/8). In this SEARP session, Indonesia and Japan co-chaired the discussion on the development of cooperation between OECD and SEARP so far. In the past three years, some of the major SEARP engagements have been in assisting the countries in ASEAN region to undertake domestic reform programs, foster regional integration, and bring ASEAN partnership closer to the OECD. The Tokyo meeting was intended to explore how to enhance the cooperation amid the dynamic developments in the region. In his opening remarks, Vice Minister of Finance Dr. Mardiasmo emphasized the importance of SEARP cooperation, both for the region and for

kingdom sent its envoys to carry out a world-wide expedition. The royal representatives arrived in Batavia in May 1858 and briefly met with the local authorities of Cianjur and Bandung. During the meeting, they were awarded valuable objects, including Batik cloths that currently displayed at the Gallery of Indonesia in the Weltmuseum. After getting a brief explanation of Batik, the participants practiced making Batik guided by Yosfiarso, a Batik artist from Yogyakarta who currently resides in Klagenfurt, Austria. The participants looked seriously following the batik making process from drawing the patterns with liquid wax using canting, coloring, drying, and fixation. “So, we’re going to make such beautiful fabrics?” said Michael Stauber, one of the managers of Modul University, pointing enthusiastically to Batik cloths on display. “This is a masterpiece,”

OECD Secretary General also expressed his appreciation to Indonesia and Japan in cochairing the meeting and showing their leadership to develop the cooperation within SEARP framework in the future. Several sectors under the cooperation will be developed, including the digital innovation, connectivity, and infrastructure. The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) is a forum of developed countries headquartered in Paris, France, aiming to improve the world economy and people’s welfare. Although not a member of OECD, Indonesia is one of the key partner countries, along with Brazil, China, India and South Africa. The cooperation between Indonesia and OECD currently is in the policy dialogue, policy formulation using OECD references, and policy review, especially in macroeconomy, agriculture, education, investment, taxation, anti-corruption, and development. The reconstruction of Clarins Bridge in Bohol, popular tourist destination in the Philippines, was inaug urated by Secretary of Public Works and Highways Department Mark Villar on Tuesday (3/13), attended by Indonesian Embassy officials. The project, worth US$8.74 million, is won by PT Wijaya Karya (Persero) Tbk in cooperation with Vicente T. Lao Construction. Clarins Bridge was severely damaged by a 7.2-magnitude earthquake in October 2013. The construction of the 104-meterlong bridge will begin on April 15, 2018 and is projected to be finished in October 2019. The Philippines President Rodrigo Roa Duterte has launched a massive infrastructure development program until 2022 known as “Build Build Build.” The fund allocation for the program reaches US$180 billion, targeting the economic growth to increase to 7-8%. The Philippine currently prioritize the construction of highways and railway lines on the three main islands named Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. This provides a big opportunity for Indonesian companies

engaged in infrastructure development and building materials. The quality of the Indonesian companies’ works has long been recognized in the Philippines. On January 22, 2018, Indonesian state-owned PT INKA successfully sold two sets of Diesel Multiple Unit train worth US$9.5 million to Philippine National Railways. This is part of President Duterte’s plan to build a total railway track of 1,900 km across the Philippines from only 77 km currently. Meanwhile the infrastructure development in Indonesia also attracts the Philippine investors. Metro Pacific Investments Corp. (MPIC) in November 2017 increased its investment in PT Nusantara Infrastucture Tbk to US$138 million. The Indonesian Embassy in Manila always supports various bilateral cooperation between Indonesia and the Philippines, both at the intergovernmental level (G to G) and private (B to B). Kediri Airport Project Expected to Cost Less than Rp8 T, Financed Outside State Budget Director General of Air Transportation Agus Santoso said that the investment needed for the Kediri Airport development is predicted to be below Rp8 trillion. The estimation, according to him, was based on the land area to be developed which is only 450 hectares or smaller than the one for Kulonprogo Airport which is 550 hectares. “Learning from the Kulonprogo Airport development in Yogyakarta, which is expected to

Entering the final stage of the construction of Mass Rapid Transit (MRT), Corporate Secretary of PT MRT Tubagus Hikmatullah revealed the next plan of additional route of Jakarta-South Tangerang. The MRT will not end at the Lebak Bulus, South Jakarta, but it has been planned for extension to Rawabuntu in South Tangerang. The route extension, Tubagus said, has been agreed as a priority by the Provincial Government of DKI Jakarta, the South Tangerang City Government, the Transport Management Agency of Jabodetabek (BPTJ), the Ministry of Development Planning or the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas), and PT MRT. “They also have seriously discussed and explored the possibility to construct the MRT route of Jakarta-South Tangerang under the scheme of Government and Business

The Directorate General of Air Transportation can concentrate on building airports in the more remote areas according to the Nawa Cita scheme of President Jokowi. Later we will connect all the airports both built by private sector and by the government to unify and promote Indonesia,” he said.

The development of the Kediri Airport is still in the stage of processing the proposal of principle permit at the Ministry of Transportation. To obtain the permit, the investor has sent the result of its feasibility study (FS). After getting the principle permit, the next step is to obtain the permit from the local government who will issue the location determination letter. (DTK/TPP)

The rolling stock of Jakarta light rail transit (LRT) has been tested at Hyundai Roterm factory in Changwon, South Korea. Satya Heragandhi, President Director of PT Jakarta Propertindo (Jakpro) as the developer of the LRT, said the trial took place recently and now is ready to be sent to Jakarta. “The trial has been done, the LRT train is working well with all the functions expected for the LRT,” he said on Friday (3/2). The photo of the train received by detikFinance shows a trainset consisting of two cars (carriages) was tested. The exterior of the carriage is dominated by white color with some touches of red and brown colors. nesia are taking off from Solo as it serves the hajj pilgrims from Central Java and Yogyakarta. That is why Adi Soemarmo Airport needs to be developed to provide maximum services to them. In the air side, currently the apron is being expanded from previously 540 meters to become 755 meters. The expansion will provide 5 more parking lots for narrow body aircraft such as Boeing 737 and Airbus A320 series or 3 parking lots for wide body plane such as Boeing B777, B747 and Airbus A330 commonly used for haj pilgrimage flights. The larger apron is expected to be able to accommodate more wide body planes for hajj pilgrimage flights without interfering the commercial flight operations at this airport. The passenger terminal is also be-

comprises two carriages with a capacity of 279 passengers per one carriage,” said Satya. The progress of Jakarta LRT development itself until early 2018 or as of January 30 has reached 59.90%. The preparatory work has been completed 100% and the infrastructure development of 5.8-kilometer LRT rail track from Kelapa Gading to Velodrome has reached 59.69%. Meanwhile regarding the construction activities, 226 of the totaled 230 poles or piers have been installed or reached 98%. Then for the girder of the overpass, 156 of 166 spans have been connected or 94%; and for the track slabs, 1,432 meters of the totaled 11,440 meters have been connected or about 12%. A train station, only 800 meters from the airport, is currently being built to complete the multi-mode transportation at the airport which will be connected to Solo Balapan station, about 13 kilometers away. The other transportation modes from the airport to Solo City available right now are Damri bus, taxi, private vehicles. Agus said he hoped the development of the airport complex will be finished this year. Next year the plan is to extend the runway from 2,600 meters to 3,000 meters so that the operational of wide body aircrafts like B777 can be done maximally. Currently Adi Sumarmo Airport serves nearly 3 million passengers per year with 66 flights in and out per day. (LPT/TPP)

Boats Made in Banyuwangi Officially Exported to Russian Military twitter.com/tul_har

Not only known for its tourist destinations, Banyuwangi is also recognized for its shipbuilding industry whose sophisticated boats have been exported to various countries. Most recently, the high-tech boat producer based in Banyuwangi PT Lundin Industry exported its products of rigid inflatable boat (RIB) of carbo-tech type to Russia. The boat purchased by Russian military was successfully tested in the Bali Strait on Monday (3/12). Participating in the trial of the boat on sea were Banyuwangi Regent Abdullah Azwar Anas and Director of PT Lundin Industry John Lundin. John Lundin said the boat has 38 feet hull. At that hull size, the boat is claimed as the fastest produced in Indonesia, even Asia. “Its speed can reach 85 knots (160 km/h) and is designed to withstand forces above G7 (gravity 7). It is currently the fastest in Indonesia, maybe even Asia,” Lundin told the reporters. According to him, Russia has ordered 7 units of the boats and 5 of them have been sent to the country. “The sixth and seventh boats have the maximum speed of 85 knots, above the speed of the previous five which is 50-60 knots,” Lundin added. The Lundin carbo-tech boats have also been used for military operations in Sweden. “We have received many boat orders from the military in Bangladesh, Hongkong, Malaysia, Brunei, and

Singapore,” he said. The success of the shipbuilding industry in Banyuwangi has cultivated the pride into the residents especially who work at PT Lundin. One of them is Hari Hermawan who works at the assembling division. “I am involved in the assembling of the boats ordered by Russia. I’m proud Banyuwangi is able to export boats,” said the graduate of SMK PGRI 2 Banyuwangi. “Congratulations to PT Lundin. The exports prove the domestic shipbuilding industry has high competitiveness in the glo bal market, supporting the vision of President Jokowi in maritime affairs,” said Banyuwangi Regent Abdullah Azwar Anas. Anas said he is optimistic that shipbuilding industry in Banyuwangi will grow and drive the local economy. He mentioned the development of cruise ship dock by a state-owned company at the Boom Beach, Banyuwangi. The marina development will attract cruise ships and yachts which later on will generate the opportunity to open businesses on ship maintenance and docking services. During this time, most of the cruise ships dock and have the maintenance in Surabaya and Bali. “In the near future they will do it in Banyuwangi. It will increase the employment and grow the economy,” said Anas. (DETIK/TPP)

Kendal Regent Launches e-Payment for Market Retribution Kendal Regent dr. Mirna Anissa, M.Si, on Wednesday (3/14) at the Kendal Market gate launched e-retribusi, an e-payment system for the traditional market traders especially in Kendal Market to pay their levy. The regent said the e-payment is a form of the local government commitment in enhancing the transparency in the management of regional income while facilitating the traders in paying their retribution. “The target is that the retribution e-payment system will be implemented in all traditional markets in Kendal Regency. This e-retribusi is to succeed the central government’s program in promoting non-cash movement and support the President Jokowi’s

ideals in shaping the eco-digital system in Indonesia,” said Mirna. The e-retribusi, according to her, is a good program for the traders. Besides more practical and safe, the funds also directly enter the local government treasury. This will help the Kendal government to run the economic activities and programs to prosper the society more efficiently, effectively, transparently and accountably. The Kendal Market is one of 13 traditional markets in Kendal Regency. The Kendal Market accommodates 1.571 merchants who have been given an e-retribusi card each. The Kendal Market is the pilot project for the implementation of retribution e-payment program.

jatengprov.go.id

The system makes the merchants easily access the banking services. Through e-retribusi, a trader simply swipes the card into an electronic data capture (EDC) provided by the bank. By that way they will be forced to be technologically literate and accountable. Those who diligently pay their levy will be facilitated in getting the credit. Mirna said the Kendal Smart City concept will not abandon the regency’s strong character as a cultural city. All parties are expected to be strongly committed to advancing the traditional markets in Kendal, as part of the realization of Kendal Smart City while maintaining its identity as a cultural city, now and in the future. A colossal kecak dance performed by 5,555 dancers consisting of high school and vocational school students from across Badung regency, Bali, has reportedly broken a world record, according to an official from the Indonesian Museum of Records (MURI). “MURI gives high praise to this performance. It is worthy of not only a national record, but also a world record,”

MURI manager Triyono told Antara during the assessment at the event’s location in Berawa Beach tourism area in Tibubeneng, Badung, on Sunday night. Triyono said the colossal kecak dance could be considered a new world record as the kecak dance was Bali’s signature art performance and a form of local culture that no other country had.

Meanwhile, Badung Tourism Agency head I Made Badra said the activity was held as part of the Berawa Beach Art Festival 2018. “This event is helping the regency administration achieve its target of attracting 7 million tourists this year,” he added. For the record-breaking performance, 5,555 dancers donned checkered kain kemben, also known as saput poleng, tied with a red scarf. The performance was staged at the Loloan Yeh Poh at Berawa Beach. As the sun started to set, the dancers began their movements accompanied by harmonious singing, entertaining thousands of spectators. famous tourist destinations in Maluku for its natural beauty and cultural exoticism. How ever, the access to go to Banda is still minimal. “Banda is famous but not supported with adequate transport modes. There is a small plane two times a week, a Pelni ship and a fast boat. We want to extend the runway,” Ona added. The tourists usually choose the fast boat which needs about 6 hours from Tulehu, Ambon City, to Banda. This fast boat serves only two times a week in Wednesday and Friday. “The Pelni ship comes from Ambon City at 9 am,” Ona said. The air transportation is operated by Susi Air serving direct flights from Ambon City to Banda and vice versa. While Pelni operates a special tour ship for Ambon-Banda route. Ideally, the tourists spend an average holiday time of 10-12 days. The lodging or hotels are still relatively cheap. “For Hotel Maulana and real estate, the prices range from Rp365.000 to Rp1 million, while the 3and 5-star hotels the prices are between Rp450,000 and Rp750,000,” said Ona. Thai Company to Build Petrochemical Plant Worth Rp75 T in Banten Siam Cement Group (SCG) will build a petrochemical plant in Cilegon, Banten, with an investment of US$5.5 billion or around Rp75 trillion (exchange rate: Rp13,700/US$). SCG’s CEO Roongrote Rangsiyopash has submitted the investment plan to President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) on Thursday afternoon (15/3). “The company will invest US$5.5 billion and the plant is targeted to start production in 2022,” said Industry Minister Airlangga Hartarto at Presidential Palace, Jakarta, on Thursday (15/3). According to him, SCG will cooperate with Chandra Asri and SCG owns about 30% shares on the petrochemical plant. “So, this will be the largest petrochemical project both for Indonesia and for Thailand, especially Siam Cement Group and Chandra Asri,” he said. The capacity of the plant will be double the existing factory in Cilegon, which is about 1.2 million tons per year. “The capacity is more than 1 million tons with the products range from naphtha cracker, polypropylene and polyethylene, for domestic market and exports,” said Airlangga. He added SCG asked for a tax holiday. “Mr. President said the regulation on tax holiday will be issued in the end of this month. It will also simplify the rules. The investors only need to submit the investment proposal to BKPM (Investment Coordinating Board) and everything will soon be issued, including the tax holiday from the director general of taxes.” SCG’s CEO Roongrote Rangsiyopash said his meeting with President Jokowi was discussing the plan to build a second petrochemical plant in Cilegon. Previously a feasibility study has been done for 9 months. “We have been investing for several years here and we have convinced the government that we are very committed to build the petrochemical plant. In the process we understand that the Indonesian government supports the investments here,” (DTK/TPP)

Maximizing Promotion of Kendal Industrial Park, Central Java Optimistic to Exceed Investment Target of 2018 The Central Java Office of One Stop Integrated Service for Investment (DPMPTSP) is optimistic that this year’s investment target of Rp47.4 trillion will be exceeded. Head of DPMPTSP Central Java Office Prasetyo Ariwibowo said that the expectation is relatively realistic, considering that last year the province was able to book Rp51.5 trillion or ranked sixth in the provinces with biggest investment realization in Indonesia. “We are optimistic, because the trend [of investment] in Central Java is indeed going up. The local government is also continuing to improve its governance and is more open to the investors,” Prasetyo said in Semarang on Thursday (3/8). The data show in the first two months of 2018 at least 2,000 business and investment licenses have been issued by DPMPTSP. However, Prasetyo declined to mention the amount of investment so far for 2018. He only said his office con-

tinues promoting the investment opportunities to the investors. He also urged the investors who already got the permit to invest in Central Java to immediately submit the report on the investment acti vities (LKPM), in a bid to maximize the potentials that have not been explored yet. Regarding the country of ori gin, Prasetyo predicts the investors from Japan will still dominate this year. Central Java, he added, has the potential considered attractive by the Japanese investors, especial-

Pascall added that out of the 250 companies operating their factories there, 61% are national companies. The rest are foreign companies from China, Singapore, Taiwan, Malaysia, Europe and America. He specified that there are six categories of manufacturing companies operating in the Cikande, namely food and be verage industry (40%), steel and

its derivatives (15%), automotive (2%), the others are chemicals, paper, animal feed, and building materials (43%). According to Pascall, from 3,175 hectares of total land area belonging to the Mo dern Cikande Industrial Eastate, only 1,775 hectares have been developed. There are still 1,400 hectares of vacant land in the modern industrial estate of Cikande. “Cikande is one of the oldest and largest industrial estate in West Jakarta,” he concluded. (SDN/TPP)

ENERGY Again, ESDM Trims 186 Rules Inhibiting Performance

sapling-inc.com

tambang.co.id

Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Minister Ignatius Jonan again cut some rules. Until this third time in 2018, the total number of trimmed rules is 186 in the regulations, certifications, and licensing. “The number of revoked or revised regulations is 90, while in the certification, recommendation, and licensing is 96. So, the total is 186,” Jonan said at a press conference at his office in Jakarta on Monday night (2/5). The 90 regulations consist of 18 regulations on oil and gas, 20 on electricity, 32 on minerals and coal, 5 on EBTKE (renewable energy), 12 on SKK Migas and 3 on BPH Migas. The 96 rules in the certifications and licensing comprise 23 rules on oil and gas, 64 on minerals and coal and 9 on EBTKE. The cut rules were considered hampering the performance of the ESDM Ministry. For example, it took 6 months for documentations then one

more month for getting the permit to build a gas station. “We remove the rules and simplify the verification process on the suppliers,” acting Director General of Oil and Gas Ego Syahrial while accompanying Jonan. According to Ego, he also abolished the rules in the regulations concerning Registration Certificate (SKT) of oil and gas supporting companies, design approval and the approval on the use of oil and gas equipment. “In running their businesses, the oil and gas supporting companies used to need the SKT. It took days to get one. It only delayed everything and extended the chain of bureaucracy. So, we cut it,” said Ego. In the electricity sector, the trimming of the rules is expected to shorten the Dwelling Time Transfer from border to post border and to clarify the classification of equipment used in the electricity sector to make it

In the EBTKE sector, the revoked rules related to the permissions to use geothermal storage warehouses, purchase recommendations and the use of geothermal explosives. For SKK Migas, 12 rules revoked are regarding bureaucracy on land procurement, health management supervision, Environmental Safety and Protection (K3LL), as well as the monitoring and evaluation of the reliability of upstream oil and gas facilities. Jonan Facilitates Employment of Foreign Workers for Oil and Gas Sector ANTARA FOTO/Akbar Nugroho Gumay

The Directorate General of Oil and Gas of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) has disseminated the simplification of regulation related to the employment of foreign workers (TK A). The simplification is carried out by revoking the ESDM Minister Regulation (Permen) No. 31 of 2013 on the provisions and procedures in the use of foreign workers and the development of Indonesian workers (TKI) on oil and gas business activities. Director of Oil and Gas Development Programs Budiyantono said the regulation revocation aimed to make the licensing procedure for hiring foreign workers become easier and faster. He added that it will

change the business processes for the upstream and downstream of oil and gas supporting companies. The business owners can apply directly to the Ministry of Manpower for getting the permission to employ foreign workers. They no longer need the Directorate General of Oil and Gas to issue recommendations for the foreign employment plans (RP TK A) and permit to hire foreign workers (IMTA). However, that does not mean foreign workers can freely enter Indonesia. The evaluation process before issuing the RP TK A and lMTA remains to be done at the Ministry of Manpower but the process becomes easier and faster. (DTK/TPP)

In the early revolution era, the little companies were beaten by the bigger ones. Nowadays whoever is fast, accurate, and creative is the one who will win. According to Komaruddin, problems should not create a conflict. “But if a conflict indeed appears unavoidable, it must be managed wisely so that the conflict will not crush them,” he said. (Harwin/TPP)

ty riding class for the employees is held at the right moment and this has become the consent of Manpower Minister M. Hanif Dhakiri.” Aris added that the event was also to commemorate the National K3 Month. The class is expected to grow the awareness of safety riding in the participants and to make them better riders. According to K3 Manager of PT Showa Yuliar Iqbal, the safety riding is part of the Prog r am of Indonesia Let’s Keep the Roads Safe (IAABL)

Then they were trained to practice the theory in slalom, passing through narrow path and bumpy roads, as well as braking training, checking the condition of motorcycle and checking the condition of the body. Hopefully the safety riding class will make the participants pioneers of safety on the roads. (Harwin/TPP)

career in racing is supported fully by both parents, resulting in many victories in championships she participated in. “I won

best female roadrace athlete in IMI JABAR AWARDS 2014 and 2015. In 2016 and 2017 my position was displaced by Raya Kitty Aditya and Dyan Primitha. This year, I aim to reclaim it.” In the Super Night Montesz Roadrace Championship 2018, Adel Tan faced tougher competition in the women’s class with 14 rivals and some of them were new. “They are more trained physically and their skills are more mature. In 2014 and 2015 when the female participants were less, the competition was not that tight,” said Adel Tan who uses 9 as the number of her motorbike. She said she also got the mental support from Lydia Anggraini, the head of Mechanical Engineering study program. Adel Tan said she hoped Mechanical Engineering of President University would be able to assemble the standard engine for the race. According to her, her toughest rival Destya Iskandar always rode a motorcycle assembled by her campus. “In the future I want to run my own business in producing spare parts for racing vehicles. That’s also the reason why I study Mechanical Engineering at the President University. So, at least later when I cannot be racing anymore, my name will still be known in the racing world,” said the student who is also active in the PUMA of Mechanical Engineering. (TBC/TPP)

LIFESTYLE 7 Tips on Interior Design Friendly to Elderly

www.freepik.com - Designed by Mrsiraphol

Caring for elderly parents should not only focus on the health, but also their safety and security at home. Old people are usually less fit and prone to accidents due to the fading vision, porous bones and so forth. 1.bp.blogspot.com

To provide comfort to them at home, here are some tips: 1. Reduce high-risk furniture Remove hard surface and sharp ends of furniture as many as possible. Choose sofas instead with cushions comfortable enough to support the bones. 2. Install handrails Install handrails in necessary places, especially the ones potentially dangerous like toilet areas, stairs, and corridors. Wrap the handrails with cloth or foam to avoid slippery when being held. 3. Good lighting The vision of the elderly tends to decline, so set brighter lighting in their home. The best lighting in the daytime is the sun, then make sure the house has enough windows to allow sunlight into it. Choose the lamps with white light as they

produce minimal shadows and comfortable for elderly eyes. Fluorescent lamps spread the light well, but they can cause strobe effects and f lickering that might be harmful to the eyes. Incandescent lamps are good for reading or sewing but produce shadows and ref lections that can be distracting. Choose according to their best interests. 4. Anti-slip Reduce dangerous objects which may cause elderly to trip or slip, such as carpets or doormats. If they want the carpet, glue it to the f loor so it won’t move. Use anti-slip rubber mat in the bathroom. Many elderly slip in the bathroom due to the slippery f loor. 5. Bright colors Bright colors will be more easily seen by the elderly. Use the bright colors to paint dangerous parts in the house, such as ladders or slopes of the f loor to make the elderly more

alert. 6. The location of elderly bedroom Make sure the bedroom for old parents is located on the first f loor and it has a bathroom inside. This will reduce the risk of falling on the stairs if their bedroom is upstairs. Elderly people usually also need to go to the toilet frequently to urinate during the night. By having the bathroom inside their bedroom, they don’t need too much effort to get it. 7. Enlarge spaces for walking Make enough spaces for passing through but not too large because they sometimes need to grip something while walking. Make sure the sides of the space have secure objects to hold on. You may need to consider enlarging the door and walking spaces for the possibility to use a wheelchair later. Beautiful green yards also need to be considered to support the health of your old parents. (AI/TPP)
