Key Stage One (Year 1-3)

NOT ALL HEROES WEAR CAPES

For the last few weeks Key Stage One have been exploring different ways in which we can show appreciation to those around us. The everyday heroes, working tirelessly to help make sure we feel safe, happy and comfortable.

Year Ones set up a 'Perse Post Box' and thought wrote thank you letters to school community members. They were very excited to find the next day that their post box had received some return mail the next day!

To extend the appreciation and warmth throughout the school, the 'Perse Post Box' has been set up in the dining hall for other pupils to write letters of appreciation and our Year One 'Posties' will be delivering them around the school.

Letters of appreciation don't have to stop at school through! Think about people in your life who are help you and write a letter to post to them. Remember to be specific in your message so they know exactly why you think they are great!

Key Stage 2 (Year 4-5) News

Year 4 pupils embarked on a captivatingjourney into the past with their enthrallingroleplay,"The Rise and Fall of Julius Caesar." Through this enthrallingactivity, they are immersing themselves in the intriguing historical events surrounding Julius Caesar's life, from his remarkable ascent to power to his fateful downfall.

Thank you, parents, for your incrediblededication and support in creating amazing costumes and practicing lines with our littleRomans. Your efforts have played a crucial role in making our event excellent!

Meanwhile, the Year 5 pupils are activelyinvolved in an exciting collaborativeproject. By immersing themselves in the captivatingworld of ancient civilizations– Mesopotamia,Indus Valley,Yellow River and Ancient Egypt , they are uncovering valuableinsights into the intricateconnection between humans and rivers.

Key Stage 3 (Year 6-8) news.

This week we are hearing from Mr Burke, one of our fantastic KS3 staff about what he loves most about being a Year 8 form tutor.

Being form tutor this year with year eight has been a privilege – I particularly enjoy our news quizzes on current affairs, discussions and our games, puzzles and riddles. Year eight are a welcoming, keen, astute and inclusive bunch and are growing into fine problem solvers, debaters and role models for the lower years.

Next I’m especially looking forward to working with year eight to develop their independence and leadership alongside the Senior Duke scheme, and around school.

Spotlight on people in our community

Hello everyone! My name is Kartini. I am the administrative support to our superstar SLTs. I also manage the front desk duties at the reception. There is never a dull moment in a school day. Other than scheduling appointments and my regular administrative duties, I manage bus duty, replenish classroom supplies and attend to telephone calls.

I also assist students with their loss and founds, applying a band-aid on a paper cut, calling up a parent when a student is sick, and at times, lending a listening ear when they feel sad or laugh with them when they have funny stories to share. Although working in a school is always busy, I feel a great sense of fulfillment in what I do when I see big happy smile on the students' faces.

Whenever I have some time to spare, I volunteer at a children center where we read stories and engage in fun craft activities. That's all about me for now. Till next time, Happy Friday and have a lovely weekend!

Many different types of technology are used up in our Science department that help us open up a world of ideas to your children. But it’s not just video clips, microscopes and digital scales. The internet provides us with a lot of useful resources, information and simulations. The key is teaching our students to be selective when researching a topic. This is true across subjects but especiallywhen looking up ‘facts’ for science. Students in year 6 havea digital ‘homework help’ to use this week, if they need to – an example of an age-appropriateresource to help them review work from the past week.

Science – week 7

All teachers have the use of a visualiser in our classrooms. This equipmentallows us to show on the main board good examples of work, a book or passage we are reading together or how to make something up close. In science, this also allows us to demonstrate practical tasks, identify features on specimens (like the flowers your children brought in) or make observations as a class.

us to embed terminology. This week, we used iPad games to review and embed words at the end of a topic. If you see a green screen in the photos, then that student just matched a term and definition correctly! Winning in all senses of the word!

Often, our students will learn a lot of new scientific terminology across one topic and remembering that is difficult. One way we learn these words is to use competitive games that allow

"InspirationalInsights".

Thank you to those of you who have reached out to guest speakers on our behalf and even volunteered yourselves!

Music

In Music, the students continue to hone their skills through various music activities in class such as the I-spy musical notes activity and the treble notes reading challenge. In music making, the students had the opportunityto participatein various ensembles, learning to listen to other musicians as they make music together. In creative music, the Year 4 students explored the Garageband apple loops with the Year 6 students taking their music further by 'balancingand mixing' the various soundtracks. Ms. Sara

CHINESE

More ofthepupils, (learning)more ofthetime.

Creating self-designed board games as an effective way to facilitateChinese language learning and assess pupils’ progress is an excellent idea. These board games were created based on the topics that pupils are learning and they include conversation practice, vocabularybuildingand characters recognition. Collaboration isincluded into these activities while pupils help each other with translations, conversation prompts and feedback. These board games not only actively involvepupilsin their learning but also provide a fun and interactiveway to assess pupils’ language learning progress.

We really enjoy the ‘Monopoly’ game as we get to play and learn the vocabulary.

We get to write in some phrases and practice them. It’s effective and fun!

Lantern Making Competition

We would like to thank our pupils for their enthusiasticparticipation in the Lantern Making Competition. It was a delight to see the effort and artistic skills that each of the pupils have put into crafting their lanterns. While not everyone can be a winner in a competition,we’d like pupilsto remember that the true values lie in the experience, learning and joy they gained from participating. Winners will be announced during assemblies next week.
