Introduction from The Principal, NicholasBelcher.
You will have to forgive me for this week's Perse Post very much feeling like a safeguarding limited edition! Safeguarding is of course important to us everyday. However, the start of the academic year is always an opportunity to set our expectations and continue to review our practice.
I had the absolute pleasure today of welcoming members of our external ECA vendors into school for our very first Annual Safeguarding ECA partners conference. An opportunity to share not only our expectations but to also discuss and share best practice and safeguarding procedures and care within their provision to ensure positive and safe learning journeys both during and after school.
As well as continuing to build community partnerships, it has forged some early discussions around developing opportunities for students to build their super curricular experiences and skills for the future. This will certainly feed into our students aspirational 'can do' attitude demonstrated during assemblies this week. This week's assemblies have been around the topic of perseverance and it has been wonderful to hear in each of our Key stage assemblies how our students are influenced from Y1 through to Year 8 .
You will be pleased to know that many students recalled their families, other students and teachers as being those they respected and acknowledged for 'never giving up'.
I wish you all a very happy weekend ahead.

The Most MagnificentThing
Key Stage One (Year 1-3)
Growing a Growth Mindset
This week we have been focusing on our school value of Endeavour.
As we settle into our new classes, pupils are becoming more aware of challenges that pop up throughout the day, whether it be a learning task, negotiatingwith friends or trying a new activity. Pupils have been building up a range of tools and strategies that can help them persevere and persist through these, strengthening their understandingof the benefits You may enjoy listening to the story 'The Most Magnificent Thing' with your child and discussing how the main character demonstrates the school value of Endeavour.
Key Stage 2 (Year 4-5) News ENDEAVOUR
This week, the school community came together to emphasise the core value of Endeavour and the important life skill of perseverance. Endeavour and perseverance are not abstract concepts, but rather life skills that we would want our pupils to cultivate and harness. During assembly, we focused on adopting a positive mindset and encouraged pupils to believe in their abilities and potential.
As we delve into this week’s focus, let us remember that the journey of a thousand mile begins with a single step!
You might wish to watch this video alongside your children. It’s an opportunity to engage in a meaningful conversation with them about the importance of a positive mindset and perseverance in times of difficulty.
Preston's Positive Thoughts
Key Stage 3 (Year 6-8) news.
This week we have been focusing on perseverance and how all our pupils can show this every day. We have discussed how we can all show resilience even when a task is difficult and a positive mindset to ensure that we always give every challenge a go. During the assembly pupils were very brave sharing their own examples of perseverance. I am so proud of how our KS3 pupils have started the year so far, with so much energy, positivity and of course perseverance. Keep up the great work!
Exciting plans for next week!

Introducing Arabella Lambe
Hello and HAPPY Friday! Most of you will know me from video calls before moving here, in person school tours and most importantly meeting your lovely children outside the front of the school on a daily basis as well as saying hello to those who drop their children off - one of my favourite parts of my working day! I arrived in Singapore when the school had just opened and almost doubled the size of it with my 3 children who have absolutely loved it here (Fergus 14, Imogen 13 & Jack 10 who is still here in Year 6). It has been a very special part of my life watching the school flourish and grow and I look forward to many more years to come! I was born in Essex in the UK, moved to Cornwall with my parents and 4 brothers (yes, I have a big family!!), then onto Brighton before moving to Hong Kong when I was just 26. I have been in Singapore for 3.5 years, and count myself lucky that I can call Asia my home having spent most of my adult life here. When I'm not at work I tend to spend most of it on the sidelines of a rugby pitch or a netball court. When I make myself I love to hike home from work up and over Bukit Timah hill! Give me a beach or countryside any day and I'm a very happy person!
We are lucky to have a wonderful team of PPA members (Perse Parent Association). If you would like to become a member please contact our Head of PPA Sumbal Waqas, she and our other members would love to grow our team. Sumbal's email is Sumbal Waqas email: sumbal.waqas237@gmail.com
Updates from The Perse Parent's Association
Safeguarding Pick up and Drop off
You may have noticed in recent weeks, members of our team in school donning the Hi-Vis and smiles to welcome students into school in the morning and after school. This has been part of our traffic calming measures to ensure safe arrival and departure of our students. We now havean efficient drive by and drop off lane and have diverted our students walking in by two main points. Equallyimportantis that it allowsus another opportunityto do what we love and engage with our parents and students. A friendly wave and "good morning/afternoon" is a great part of our day.

News from The Perse School, Cambridge
As the start of the academic year gets underway in the UK ; The Perse School, Cambridge celebrated its first day in the upper school with a 'first bell' assembly.
A fine example of how a school community is driven by the coming together of its pupils, staff and parents in a shared experience, something which we are proud of everyday here at The Perse School, Singapore. We wish the pupils and staff every success in their learning journeys this year.
Parent guidance for onlinesafety and social safeguarding .
For a number of years in different roles, I was proud to be an ambassador member of CEOP (Child Exploitation and Online Protection Command) particularlyas one of the founding teachers in their partnership with the Thai Police force and education. During this time, I unfortunately was engaged in a few situations where students had had poor experiences of their interactionson the Internet with people pretending to be someone they were not. Many years on , it scares me as an educator and a parent that it still happens and is even more common than those years back. One resource as a parent that I frequently use is the thinkuknow.co.uk website. It helps parents stay informed and up to date with various concerns and explanationsof the part of our students world which is fast moving and can be a dangerous place to navigate. It also has a great platform for our children too with interactivegames, short films and age appropriateinformation in three different age brackets.
A unique feature about the Think U Know Websites is the button for students, parents and teachers can use to highlight concerns or worries. It appears discretely on the bottom of the pages and is linked to the CEOP safeguarding centre (based in the UK with International links).
