Dive Dive in in and and vote vote Extreme swimmer Ryan Stramrood holds the record number of crossings from Robben Island to the mainland. The Rondebosch resident broke the record in June last year when he did the crossing for the 109th time. Since then, he has completed this swim a further five times. Ryan has been nominated for the World Open Water Swimming Association Man of the Year Award. The winner will be chosen through a public online voting system which closes on Friday 29 January. mail has not been removed from the post box for some time. In response to People’s Post media query sent last week, the SA Post Office said “the box issue in question” was only reported to its Clareinch area office on Thursday 21 January. “After speaking to the branch manager, it was mentioned that there is a challenge with the key, however, this has been escalated to our handymen. At this stage, we cannot confirm as to when last the box was cleared but we are going to

launch an investigation on the issue,” says Emma Tshatsinde, spokesperson for the SA Post Office. A post on the Lynfrae Community Facebook page on Thursday 14 January first brought this issue to People’s Post’s attention. Local resident Trish Thurtell was the one to raise the alarm. Having realised too late that a letter ­– meant for the United Kingdom (UK)– which she had dropped in the box did

not have a stamp on it, she phoned Clareinch to find out what would happen to the letter. “I was told that post box has not been cleared for ages because the key is either inside the box or lost!” Thurtell wrote. She said there should have been a notice on the box, indicating there was a problem. “She (a post office staff member) also informed me that no mail was going to the UK at present. I didn’t know that… Did you?” Thurtell wrote. V Continued on page 2.
