Almighty and eternal God, those who take refuge in you will be glad and forever will shout for joy. Protect these soldiers as they discharge their duties. Protect them with the shield of your strength and keep them safe from all evil and harm. May the power of your love enable them to return home in safety, that with all who love them, they may ever praise you for your loving care. We ask this through Christ our Lord.

The Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary is celebrated annually on September 8,and nine months of the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception is celebrated on December 8. While the Church often chooses the date of a Saint’s death to commemorate their life, two notable exceptions are John the Baptist (whose nativity and passion are both celebrated) and the Blessed Virgin Mary (whose conception, nativity, and assumption are celebrated).
Although there are no biblical accounts of Mary’s birth or death, many apocryphal sources make mention of her, with some historical records to substantiate them. This feast has its roots in Jerusalem, in the early days of Christianity, and it was quite common to see scenes of Mary’s birth, annunciation, and assumption depicted in medieval art. Mary, born of Saint Anne, chosen by God to bear Jesus, is obviously held in high esteem in the Catholic Church,as well as some protestant denominations. As such, several local customs merge this feast day with the celebration of one of the many titles of our Lady, including:
Our Lady ofVictories (Malta)
Our Lady of Charity (Cuba)
Our Lady of Good Health (India)

The decision to observe Mary’s birth was the tangible groundwork for the “birth of salvation,” for through Mary would come the savior, Jesus Christ. Saint Augustine, in particular, was one theologian who stressed this important connection between Mary and the salvific work of her son.

Vibiana, Virgin and Martyr, c. Third Century In 1851, Pope Pius IX bought a vineyard located just outside of Rome. When ancient catacombs were discovered underneath the land, the pope directed the Pontifical Commission for Sacred Archeology to explore the vast underground network. About two years later, an intact tomb was uncovered which was sealed by a marble tablet. When the tomb was opened, the skeleton of a young woman was discovered. She had apparently died a violent death. The inscription on the tablet, while not revealing the exact year of her death, bore markings which indicated that the victimRead More HERE.

MyDearParishioners:
Today we celebrate the Twenty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time. Facing another about sinfulness is one of the most difficult “dyings” we undertake a dying that requires us to risk relationships, let go of self-righteousness, perhaps face angry reactions. Fromthe otherside, admittingourownsinfulness—evensomethingso simple as apologizing to another takes great humility and honesty. Neither facing another nor beingfacedourselvesaboutsinfulnessiseasy! The good news and strength actually to be reconcilers comes from Jesus’ promise that he is in the midst of two or three gathered in his name. The challenge of living the paschal mystery comes in growing in consciousness that we and others are thepresenceofChrist.
I hope that all enjoyed the Labor Day Weekend holiday with family, friends and festivities. Many schools are now in session and the sports teams are ready for new seasons. Life in most households will become increasingly hectic with many demands for time and attention. Amidst all of these demands, make time for some solitudeorquiet.Setasidesomemomentsdailyto reflectonhowthingsaregoing, andthankGodfor the many and varied blessings that accompany us in our daily living. Coming together on Sunday for mass and the reception of the Holy Eucharist becomes a challenge for us and requires deliberateness in planning our days and weeks. Living in a suburban/rural like setting places more emphasis on parents/adults to transport children and young people to mass each Sunday. Walking or riding one’s bicycle is not really an option for the children of our parish. I thank the
parents and adults for setting such a good example for children and young people as we continuetoformtheminourCatholicFaithbyour example and sound catechesis. The Catholic Christian finds our fundamental identity when we are gathered for Eucharist as we keep holy the Lord’s Day. Likewise I am so very grateful to our parishioners who make the Eucharist available to our sick and homebound parishioners. Let us never forget those who have gonebeforeusinbuildingthekingdomofGod.
This weekend we return to our per annum weekendmassschedule.Thisscheduleremainsin effect until May 2024 unless otherwise noted. We welcome students and their families in; reparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation to the 4:00 PM mass. This is their orientation and serves as an opportunity to communicate the vision and expectations in preparation for Confirmation. This year the Sacrament of Confirmation will be administered Friday, 20 October 2023 here in our parish church. Pray for thesecandidates, theirsponsorsandparents.
This coming week, the priests of our Diocese of Trenton will gather Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday for the Annual Convocation of Priests. Pleaserememberallthepriestsofourdioceseand thoseservingourdioceseinyourprayer.
As we begin the month of September, please anticipate extra traffic on Route 34 through Thanksgiving with Apple and Pumpkin picking, hay rides, etc…. Have a great week. Let us remember one another in prayer. Happy Sunday.Peace.
