Almighty and eternal God, those who take refuge in you will be glad and forever will shout for joy. Protect these soldiers as they discharge their duties. Protect them with the shield of your strength and keep them safe from all evil and harm. May the power of your love enable them to return home in safety, that with all who love them, they may ever praise you for your loving care.

Andrew Macirowski and Carly York are excited to announce that the Parish of St. Mary in Colts Neck will once again host its "Summer Sounds" Concert Series. After a long hiatus due to COVID-19, we are inviting singers from around Monmouth County to join us in singing the classical masterwork, "Gloria," by Antonio Vivaldi. Sadly, local choirs were hit hard by the Pandemic, and many choirs have not returned to their previous participation levels, and some have disbanded altogether. This is a tremendous opportunity for our parish to welcome people from within our community to come back to church with a fun, social and creative program. This concert production is also a great way for us to invite people from outside the St. Mary's community to experience the joy that being part of a welcoming community of Christ can bring to their lives. Carly & Andrew encourage any parishioner who likes music to join in the Summer Sounds program, and invite your friends from outside the church to join us as well.
[The Vivaldi Gloria is a musical work featuring 12-movements with two soloists, strings, oboe, and trumpet. Antonio Vivaldi (1678-1741) is a Baroque composer who was raised in a musical family in Venice, Italy. While he was ordained a Priest in 1703, he was not able to follow that calling due to respiratory health issues. At the age of 25, he was appointed Master of Violin, and later Music Director, at the Ospedale della Pietà, which was an orphanage that trained boys in the "trades" and girls in music. Under Vivaldi's leadership, the Ospedale received international acclaim. Many of his master compositions were written for the female students of the orphanage, including the Gloria. The score for the Gloria was discovered in Turin, Italy in the early 1900's. It received its modern debut in 1939 at the "Vivaldi Week '' revival concert series that was led by Italian pianist, composer, and conductor of the Boston Pops Orchestra, Alfredo Casella. Since then, the Vivaldi Gloria has been a primary choral masterwork performed regularly by professional and amateur choirs around the globe.]

Therefore, we welcome St. Mary parishioners of high school age and up to participate in performing the masterwork, Gloria by Antonio Vivaldi. Rehearsals will be held:
7:00-8:30PM, on July 13, July 20, July 27th, and August 3, 2023
The Dress Rehearsal will be Wednesday, Aug. 9th from 7:00-9:00PM, with Soloists and Orchestra. The Concert will be:
Thursday, August 10, 2023 at 7:00PM
If you are not able to sing with our Summer Sounds choir, we highly encourage you to save the date so that you can attend the performance on August 10, 2023. We ask that anyone who is interested in joining the Summer Sounds Concert to please complete this short registration form HERE by June 30, 2023.

My Dear Parishioners:
This weekend we celebrate the Twelfth Sunday in Ordinary Time. The readings this Sunday tell us in one more way that embracing the dying of the paschal mystery always leads to rising, but with a slightly different twist: these readings remind us that dying sometimes will be foisted on us by the evildoing of others. At the same time the readings remind us that the rising given to us is the presence of a caring and loving God. The gospel presents us with other word pairs that challenge us with the dying and rising we are to live: concealed/revealed; darkness/light; do not be afraid/be afraid; kill the body/ cannot kill the soul; denies Jesus/ acknowledges Jesus. These are always presented to us as a choice. The disciple who lives the paschal mystery is one who places God before all else. At issue here is that we stay the course of faithful discipleship no matter what adversary we meet because, ultimately, what counts is fidelity to God. With this faithfulness, we need not fear for God has counted even all the hairs on our head! Our Theology on Tap event was a success. I thank our Parish Pastoral Council Members who coordinated the event and our staff who supported them. His Excellency, The Most Reverend Bishop of Trenton had an enjoyable evening and commented on how these types of events provide an opportunity for him to get to know the faithful, and for them to get to know him. Thanks to all who participated as well. This coming week the liturgical calendar for the universal church observes the Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul. This is the Solemnity each year when those who have been named to a Metropolitan Archbishopric throughout the world may journey to the See of Peter to receive the pallium (the white lambs wool stole that is worn on the outside of the chasuble by
the Metropolitan) from the current successor of Saint Peter. Pope Francis has recently offered to have the Apostolic Nuncios confer the pallia in the local archdiocese as a further expression of synodality throughout the church. It is worth noting that the Orthodox Patriarchate of Constantinople sends a delegation representing the Patriarch to Rome for this Solemnity as a sign of the communion that already exists as we continue to pray for the restoration of full, visible & eucharistic communion between Roman Catholics and the Orthodox Christians. Let us pray for these men who have been entrusted in a special way with preserving the unity of the church in their particular province.
Preparations continue to be made for the new fiscal year to begin 1 July 2023. Budget items are being reviewed as well as capital items. Salary and benefits schedules are underway so that we can continue to offer our parish staff competitive compensation for the work that they oversee/do. Many thanks to all of our bona fide parishioners for their sacrificial stewardship that enables us to fulfill our mission of prayer, formation and outreach.
Remember that we will observe an “abbreviated mass schedule” for Independence Day Weekend…Please make a note in your personal calendar. Thank you for your cooperation. Have a great week. Let us remember one another in prayer. Happy Sunday. Peace.
