Almighty and eternal God, those who take refuge in you will be glad and forever will shout for joy. Protect these soldiers as they discharge their duties. Protect them with the shield of your strength and keep them safe from all evil and harm. May the power of your love enable them to return home in safety, that with all who love them, they may ever praise you for your loving care. We ask this through Christ our Lord.

The Parish of St. Mary in Colts Neck, NJ, will once again host its Summer Sounds Concert Series. After a long hiatus due to COVID around Monmouth County are joining together to sing the classical masterwork, Gloria, by Antonio Vivaldi. Sadly, local Monmouth County choirs were hit hard by the Pandemic, and many choirs have not returned to their previous participation levels, and some have disbanded altogether. The Summer Sounds Concert is an opportunity for the Parish of St. Mary to host people from across the community to return to the joy of singing with this fun, social, and creative music program. Since early July 2023, singers from a variety of churches, as well as the Monmouth Civic Chorus and Arcadian Chorale, have been rehearsing the full Vivaldi Gloria. The masterwork will be performed with a small professional orchestra and vocal soloists. The concert program will begin with modern choral works by Benjamin Britten and Morten Lauridsen. The group will also perform a rousing rendition of the Beethoven Ode to Joy, which will invite the audience to sing along. The concert will be performed on Thursday, August 10, 2023, at 7:00 PM, at the Parish of St. Mary, 1 Phalanx Rd, Colts Neck, NJ 07722. Admission to the concert is free, and donations to support the music program will be greatly appreciated. Music-lovers from across Monmouth County are invited to attend!
The son of the warden of a small town in Spain and Blessed Joan of Aza, Dominic was educated by his mother until about his fourteenth birthday. At that time, Dominic entered the school of Palencia, and studied to become a priest. Upon ordination, he stayed with the community of priests from the school, living under the Rule of Saint Augustine. Dominic had been appointed a canon of the cathedral at Osma while still a student and continued in these duties after ordination. When Diego d’Azevedo, the prior of the monastery, was named bishop of Osma, Dominic was chosen as his successor at the age of thirty-one. In 1204, Bishop Diego was sent to Denmark by the King of Castile and he asked Dominic to accompany him. En route- Read More HERE.

UnitedintheIHM, MotherMaryoftheIncarnation,SSVMS.A.C.K. (Supporting A Community with Kindness) is a 501c3 nonprofit organization where people from all over the world knit/crochet sacks and then donate them (with a bar of soap in each one) to homeless shelters, food pantries, veteran clinics, social service agencies and relief efforts. Since S.A.C.K. was founded in 2017, over 140,000 soap sacks have been donated globally! The response to these soap sacks are overwhelmingly positive especially since people cannot purchase toiletry items such as soap with government subsidies such as food stamps. The mission of S.A.C.K. is to spread kindness, one sack at a time. Our soap sack donations help to send a message of dignity, hope, love, compassion and health…..emotions that can restore a person, both physically and emotionally. Small actions make a huge difference! For more information about S.A.C.K., please check out our Website: www.soapsacks.com

Today we celebrate the Feast of the Transfiguration of Our Lord. Jesus’ transfigured glory foreshadows his glorious resurrection,a new life that washis becausehe faithfully did the will of his Father, even to the point of suffering and dying. If we wish to share in this same transfigured glory, we must be equally faithful in surrendering our will to God’s will, to living the gospel, and to be willing to die to self for the good of others. The transfiguration of Jesus tells us that the kingdom of God is already here. We help establish that kingdom when we die to self and rise with Christ in glory. The cost of Christian Discipleship is not something that we would naturally embrace. This gospel passage motivates us to be disciples because we already see what becomes of the faithful disciple: he or she is transformed into glory. The challenge to our everyday living is that our life be transfigured (transformed) so that when people see US,they see JESUS!
This weekend we welcome in a special way those families who are participating in our Summer Session Religious Education Intensive. There is an orientation at and immediately following the 12:00 noon mass for all parents and students. Let us pray for these young people, their parents, those catechists responsible for teaching them our Catholic Doctrine, and the many volunteers who offer their support of this program. As a reminder, during the summer session program our parish facilities will be secured with limited access during those times. This is in accordance with the established principles and norms for maintaining a safe environment as expected by the United States Catholic Conference ofBishops.
The Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is observed 15 August. This year masses at the Parish of Saint Mary are: 14th at 5:00pm; 15th at 12:00 noon. The Parish of Saint Catherine, Holmdel will be celebrated: 15th at 9:00am and 7:30pm. The decision has been made, after consultation, to stagger our schedules providing the most opportunities for our parishioners to participate. This is the Patronal Feast of our Diocese of Trenton. Let us pray for our local church and His Excellency, The Most Reverend Bishopof Trenton.
I expect work to begin in the coming weeks to replace the lighting in the nave and sanctuary of the church building. Phase one is the replacement of the two rings of hanging ceiling fixtures. Later this year the fixtures along the outer aisle/ambulatory and the sanctuary will be replaced. Much of the funding for this project is from the Faith To Move Mountains Diocese of Trenton Capital Campaign. The organ speakers will also be installed later this month. They will be grouped by voicing and sound on the beams of the ceiling. This is the next phase of the organ replacement project. (The organ we are using in the church is on loan from the organ builder as our new instrument is being built with a potential delivery/installation date of December 2023. This project is being funded from the general fund for equipment replacement.

In his letter to the Romans, St. Paul tells us that nothing can separate us from the love of God experienced in Christ Jesus, our Lord. Still, we know there is a force which seeks to divorce us from such a love. In 1945 C.S. Lewis wrote The Great Divorce as an imaginative, fantasy novel. Based on a theological dream he reflects on the Christian conceptions of Heaven and Hell. Come and join in our discussions, bringing your imagination, curiosity, and life experience. Led by S. Marie.
