Almighty and eternal God, those who take refuge in you will be glad and forever will shout for joy. Protect these soldiers as they discharge their duties. Protect them with the shield of your strength and keep them safe from all evil and harm. May the power of your love enable them to return home in safety, that with all who love them, they may ever praise you for your loving care. We ask this through Christ our Lord

FOR DEEPER REFLECTION
The Lord’s Prayer is a map for life.
Question for Children:
Prayer is talking with God and listening to God in our hearts. Where do you talk to God and how do you listen to what God says to you?
Question for Youth:
Jesus teaches us how important it is to pray. How do you ask God for what you need? How do you listen for his response?
Question for Adults:
Jesus teaches us how to pray. When this past week did you take the time to pray, to talk to and listen to God?

WORSHIP & MUSIC
Andrew J. Macirowski - Pastoral Coordinator for Worship & Music / Principal Organist
Martha, Mary, and Lazarus, siblings from Bethany, were close friends of Jesus, whose home served as a sanctuary for him and his disciples. This dynamic is beautifully illustrated in two key biblical stories. In one instance, Jesus visits their home, and Martha is consumed with the responsibilities of hospitality, diligently preparing and serving. Her sister, Mary, however, chooses to sit at Jesus' feet, engrossed in his teachings. When Martha expresses her frustration that Mary is not helping, Jesus gently reminds her that Mary has chosen the "better part" – prioritizing spiritual nourishment over worldly duties. This moment highlights a crucial distinction: while service is important, an intimate relationship with God, characterized by listening and learning, is paramount. The resurrection of Lazarus is the most significant event involving these siblings, detailed in the Gospel of John. Martha and Mary sent for Jesus when Lazarus fell ill, expecting him to heal their brother. However, Jesus delayed, and Lazarus died and was buried. Upon Jesus' arrival, Martha expressed both grief and faith, stating, "Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died But even now I know that whatever you ask of God, God will give you".
Jesus, moved by their sorrow, declared himself the "resurrection and the life" and called Lazarus from the tomb.. This event demonstrates Jesus' authority over death and reinforces the importance of faith and hope in his promises.
Together, the siblings are the patron saints of siblings. Separately, Martha is the patron saint of hospitality, Mary is the patron saint of contemplation and spiritual study, and Lazarus is the patron saint of the poor and sick. Their memorial is July 29.

Liturgy of the Word Dismissal
This is the practice of having children ages 4 through 12 leave the Sunday assembly during the Liturgy of the Word (readings) and gather in the chapel to engage in the Liturgy of the Word at a level more appropriate to the children’s understanding!
Seventh Sunday After Pentecost
OGod, the protector of all who trust in you, without whom nothing is strong, nothing is holy: Increase and multiply upon us your mercy; that, with you as our ruler and guide, we may so pass through things temporal, that we lose not the things eternal; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

What a great two weeks of formation we are wrapping up here at the parish! Many thanks to all the children, catechists and parent/student helpers who participated in our virtual two-week program. Along with our theme of the seven Sacraments and the children’s level curriculum, we also discussed and learned about the Jubilee year. The virtual session ran smoothly and was filled with great discussions on faith using tons of wonderful resources—all to help the children grow intheir relationshipwithJesus! PASTORAL CARE &
OUTREACH
Rosemarie Farrow Pastoral Coordinator of Pastoral Care & Outreach
The simplest gifts are often the most profound. If you’ve got time, empathy, and compassion, you have the ability to support those nearing end of life. If you have been searching for meaningful ways to spend your time, we invite you to explore the role of hospice volunteer with VNA Health Group.
Companionship visits in patient’s homes or facilities in Monmouth or Middlesex Counties, administrative projects, or comforting phone calls from our Neptune office, are just some of the ways in which our volunteers support patients and their families. A Specialized 16-hour Training will be provided by members of the VNA Hospice Team, over the course of 3 weeks.

Quo vadis...
My Dear Parishioners: Today we celebrate the Seventeenth Sunday in Ordinary Time. If we all persisted in praying for the gift of the indwelling Spirit, were faithful in sharing the abundance of God’s life and gifts that the Spirit brings, and held as primary our relationship with God, then our prayer for our needs would probably be different. There is nothing wrong with prayer for specific needs; after all, we do it every Mass at the general intercessions, not to mention our own prayers of petition. This gospel challenges us to go beyond specific needs and get the larger picture; a focus on the gift of the indwelling Spirit is already God’s answer to all our prayers. What inspires confidence in us is not whether God gives us what we ask for in prayer; our confidence comes from the Spirit who dwells within and establishes a most intimate relationship between God and usshared life.
This weekend we welcome some grandparents of our parishioner children as well as parishioner grandparents who are hosting their grandchildren for mass and a reception following in Madonna Hall. His Holiness, the Pope, has encourage us to host such intergenerational gatherings to connect older and younger Catholics. Respect for the aging and elderly is an important component of the Church’s teaching on respect for all human life. Thanks to Julia Cullen and her team for overseeing this opportunity here in our parish.
His Excellency, The Most Reverend Bishop of Trenton has directed all parishes within our diocese to take up a collection this weekend to assist in the care of our distinguished retired priests. Costs continue to rise and it is now time to invite all of the faithful to assist in the care of our diocesan priests. We have included a line item in the drop down box for on-line gifts and there will be a receptacle in the narthex of the church as well. Thank you for prayerfully considering a gift in honor of
our retired priests.
Our Summer Session Religious Education Module I is concluded. Module II will commence in a few weeks. This option for RE rests upon the foundation that families participate in Sunday Mass weekly as well as Intergenerational Sessions. We have made some progress…however we have a long way to go in order to achieve our goal. I am grateful to those families who are helping us to strengthen our commitment to forming and educating our young people in our Catholic Faith.
The month of August begins next weekend. Our attention begins to focus on back to school issues. This weekend we are hosting the Jersey Club of the University of Notre Dame as they gather incoming freshman for Mass and a cookout here on our parish campus. They have been doing this for many years and most recently here in 07722. It is wonderful to encounter these young people excited and hesitant about beginning this new chapter in their life. Other students from our parish will begin or return to college life. Others will return to or begin their journey through high school. These are exciting times for our students as they begin to learn the lessons of life…starting over…making new friends…discovering new things in their own lives. Those who may need childcare services for their toddlers and pre-schoolers might check out the Future Generations program here on our parish campus. I continue to receive positive feedback from families who entrust their children to this program.
Please welcome Father Peter Short from the Diocese of Gallup, New Mexico, who is with us this weekend as part of the Mission Cooperative. Thank you for your attention and generous support. Have a great week. Let us remember one another in prayer. Happy Sunday. Peace. Fr. Jeff
