Nothing says ‘summer’ quite like fireworks from a lake, and there’s no better place to view the celebration of our nation’s independence than the lakes of Kosciusko County.

Advertised as the largest community fireworks show ever, the 2022 Lake Wawasee fireworks celebration is slated for Saturday, July 2, at 10:15 p.m. It promises to be spectacular, especially if you’re fortunate enough to view the display from the water, where the brilliant flashes of color reflect magnificently on the lapping waves.

Not to be outdone by its lakeside neighbor, Syracuse Lake will be offering its own Independence Day celebration on Monday, July 4, at dusk. No boat? No problem. You

Other “don’t miss” festivities around the Fourth include the 61st anniversary of the Wawasee Flotilla, complete with an annual boat parade on July 2, starting at 11:30 a.m. at The Spinx, and its accompanying road race on July 4, kicking off at 8 a.m. at Lakeside Park. Be sure to check out over 12 miles of trails that wind around the lakes. Maybe start training weeks earlier in Syracuse to prep for either the 3.3- or 8-mile run.
